As a couple of you may know, I'm currently deployed for OIF/OEF. I've been here less than a week and so far the work load has been moderate, but not too bad, and the morale is as high as I've ever seen it. But, yesterday SUCKED. It was just one of those days where the whole world seems to fall down all around you. I was non-stop busy for all 12 hours of my shift yesterday. I was having to deal with some of our aircraft being broke off station, off station aircraft being broke here and us having to fix them, crews showing up to planes late and taking off late, cargo being loaded on to the aircraft late causing it them to take off late, etc, etc. Damn near everything that could have gone wrong yesterday, did. So, after work I put my PT gear on, grabbed my new 80g iPod, tied my shoes tight, went to the gym and ran while I watched some Hooters girls swimsuit show on AFN (Armed Forces Network). I ran for about 45 minutes at about 6.5 and on a 2.0 incline. I'm POOPED today and, as some of you remember, my knees are shot so they feel like arse today. I could barely walk when I woke up this morning. But, I sure as hell felt better about how my day went when I was running.

Red... We are here for you to vent as you know. And yes...many of us know of your "status". But I did not know you had been deployed. And with your knee issues, I hope that you are at least not put into a situation that you could not handle.
God Be With You.
I didn't want to post anything but yes...it was one of those days.
My bosses wife has had medical issues for over a year and without all the details, she nearly died this morning in the hospital after surgery. She is still not expected to survive the weekend.
My boss was in Chicago when he called me this morning. He was not to return until Tuesday but said he was at the airport leaving the hobby trade show he was attending when he told me the news of what was going on.
After explanation, I was totally freaked because of the nature of the whole situation.
Not more than an hour later my best friend from Colorado emailed me to say his wife's mom died. This shocked me and brought further sadness.
About an hour after that, a co-worker, huge Bronco fan, came to me and said she had to leave work because her neice seizured at the high school and they could not get a hold of her mother. She immediately left to take care of business and I have not heard from her yet.
I am in no way taking away from your story because you know me Red and I would never try to alter your position of crap that you go through.
Some days are just complete emotional nightmares.
I actually came to the boards tonight to find some mental relief.
We are with you Bro!! Feel the love from all of us and hang in there. :usa:
God Love Ya SeeingRed!!

By all means, vent. Today is doing better so far. Yesterday not a single one of our planes took off on time, today I'm 100% on time. It makes life a lot easier. The one good thing about yesterdays take offs was that not a single one of them was for maintenance...all on ops (flight crews).

I'm very pleased to hear your day is going better.
We were warned, and it made total sense to not share our personal problems and burden those deployed with our issues at home when you guys and gals have enough to worry about.
I know you aren't allowed to tell your exact locations, but... where are you? LOL :goofy:
Roughly obviously.
Longitude and Latitude.

Roughly? Between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Presicely? Qatar.
You're not burdening me by telling me your personal stuff. A burden to me is something happening to one of my loved ones at home and being stranded here unable to do anything.
BTW, I'm sorry to hear about what happened with you...no bueno.
The weather is cooling off here too. It's only about 90 out right now.

Thanks for the sorry. When your thread said ... "One Of Those Days"...I could relate on that fact.
God forbid you have to deal with one of your loved one's suffering through something you can't assist with. But we all know that some of you guys/gals have that happen.
And we sympathize.
What time of day is it there right now? It's 4:10 am right now here in Utah and my eyelids are starting to get heavy.
My wife is not well either, nothing serious, so I have been posting, tipping a few and enjoying speaking with you right now!

Right now it's 1:20pm here. I work from 9am-9pm, six days on with one day off. My day off is Tuesday. I haven't had a day off yet, but I've only been here since Sunday, so I'm doing alright. I just walked over to the DFAC (chow hall) and my left knee felt like it was going to fall apart. I just popped about 700mg of Asprin, so hopefully that helps.
You know those Bayer commercials with Ty from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? I'm starting to wonder if an Asprin regimen would help my pain and swelling.
Maybe some Percocet?

I'm not sure if you know or not, but I had to drive a U-Haul from Vegas to San Antonio to move the daughers down there about 2 months ago.
Texas is a HUGE place and we went a 100 miles at a time before we saw a light.
If you guys get too bored, check out my Halloween thread for a few laughs.
I'm gonna go catch some shut eye.
Stay safe.
Keep your eye in the sky and your ass on the ground. :D
We love you my friend and I'll keep my eye on this thread and chat when I can with ya!!
God Bless You and Your Commrades and ALL deployed Military peeps.

Damn. I was worried about your knees. This has been going on a while for you now. If you just got there, how long will you have endur it? Combat situations could test you big time I can imagine.
Please share our love and support with your fellow commrades.
I gotta go catch that shut eye. :salute:

Fortunately for me I won't have to see any combat. I've been in some hairy situations on planes before, but I won't have to see combat.
More than likely, I'll look at next summer for surgery. For now it'll just be a scope until the cartalidge finishes falling apart, then they will go in and reconstruct it, but that should be at least a couple years down the road.
Sleep well.

Hi Red and comrades.
I hope you are able to keep tabs on tonights game. Up 21-7 has me feeling like a schmuck since I thought we would lose again. The games not over yet, but looking good so far and THIS is the team we all miss seeing play.
Glad to learn you aren't in combat and I wondered with your knee situation what type of role you are playing.
In combat or not, you military folk deserve all the credit, admiration and respect that should come your way starting with me my friend.!! :salute:
Hang in there and look forward to your return. :usa:

I also wanted to say it was a pleasure chatting with you the other night. Glad to give you somebody to talk with while you had a break with your planes grounded.
PM me with an address that we can send you a card of support or a letter or two to give you something to read.
As you know, I have an adopted soldier I know little about but he is a Bronco fan and we do send them boxes of goodies each month.
If the PM isn't required for security purposes, post it here and maybe anybody that reads this thread will send you something too. ;)
How long are you deployed to your current location anyway? Most go around 18 months if not mistaken.

I was able to watch the Broncos game live on AFN. I had to wake up at 3am to watch it, but I got to see it from start to finish. Well worth waking up for.
My address here is:
James Demoney
379 EMOS/MXOOM
APO, AE 09309
You guys don't need to send anything, but if you really want to, I'm sure some people up here could get a good use out of it.

Anybody that does send a box needs to remember a customs form must be filled out at the post office. :salute:

What are we allowed to send you red? I had heard that it was tough to get you guys things, is that true?
What do you need (besides a ticket home :) )
I dont have a lot to give but would love to be able to give something to you guys who are protecting me, my family and my country :salute:
Glad to hear that you are doing good and you are safe - plus you got to see a great broncos game - although once again we had to bring out the defibrillator to shock me back to life after another FG to win - LOL

Stuff that comes in handy here is stuff like batteries (AA mostly), lotion, shampoo, body wash, razors, shaving cream, etc. Toiletries can be hard to come by here because the BX is fit for a base with about 1k people, when there is 8k here.
And a correction on the address. I just realized I typed it wrong. It's APO, AE, not AP.

Red,
Are you on a dry base? If so I could send you some listerine:D. My husband and a few other 900 Division Naval Air Station Whidbey Ilsander (or other wise known as the rock) have in the past and some now in the present have spent plenty of time in those dry places. Let us know if you need anything. I am not quit sure were your are deployed at the moment but I will ask my husband when I get home. It sounds like you have a healthy way of dealing with the crap the military hands yeah. Keep it up. There is always tomorrow. If not just send a rookie out for one of those special request chits that doesnt exist and will make him turn beet red when he finally figures it out. I am sure you can come up with something better than that. I tell you what those were my favorite stories. All the guys sitting around talking about how they got this guy or that. Find a way to put a smile on your face......Good luck!:D

Forbidden Items:
pork or pork products
alcohol
pornography
glass containers
anti Muslim literature
As Red pointed out, the things needed most are the common household type toiletries that he listed along with toothpaste and we even send new toothbrushes.
Also sunblock, carmex or blistex, eye drops, Advil/Tylenol, TP etc.. As he pointed out, they have to share very little amongst many of them.
Snacks are a huge favorite. Hard candy, chips, cookies, trail mix and beef jerkey. Gum, breath mints stuff like that. Chocolate isn't a very good idea along with other things that may melt because of the heat.
We send People magazine, National Enquirer lol, puzzle books, pen and paper and we send envelopes too.
You can go to this website for all kinds of great information and adopt a soldier if you like beyond Red. :salute:

I can't express how great you will feel when that box is sent on it's way. We feel so happy that we can do just a little bit to help our deployed military. We usually send a card that everybody around here signs along with a letter just blabbing about whatever. My adoptee is a Bronco fan too which was a big plus.
Another thing to remember, is to never complain about any personal problems you may have. They have enough of their own so we just tell some jokes or something and give some feedback about something we may have done recently. Always be happy and postitive!
We sent items to San Diego area via the Red Cross on Wednesday and plan on sending more stuff to Iraq next week.

This base is one of two bases in the middle east that allows liquor. The other one is in UAE. We're only allowed three drinks per day, but since I've been here (two weeks) I've only had two beers. I'm on a pretty strict diet and I'm doing a ton of cardio, so no extra calories for me.
Funny story actually. One of the guys that deployed with us is young, only been in the AF about a year. Yesterday I sent him to the tool crib to get a bucket of prop wash (our planes, C-130s, have props, no such thing as prop wash) and a yard of flight line (we work on the "flight line"). He was PISSED! About a week ago I sent him to our production superindentent's office to get an AF form "ID-10-T". I let the pro-super know I was going to do it, the pro-super made sure to tell the maintenance operations officer (MOO), and the MOO told everyone else. The kid was walking around for about a half hour trying to find this "Idiot" form. It was all in good fun. He's a good worker, but we've gotta break 'em in right. :D
