Maybe in the Madden world that 'could' happen.

how many years does Vilma have left on his contract?
Should trade for him if not free agent he is a true 4-3 MLB
he would be a sick pick-up

2008 NFL FA List (not sure how up to date it is)
http://footballsfuture.com/freeagents.html
1. Lance Briggs LB
2. Max Starks OT
Would like to see Denver resign Foxy and Stokley though.

If Haynesworth is available in free agency, we must do everything in our power to acquire him.
He'd pretty much sort the D-Line out in one foul swoop, as Marcus Thomas will hopefully be able to contribute much more next year.
The entire defense would automatically improve after that.

Haynesworth? Have you guys learned nothing? We need to stop signing rotten apples to big contracts. :coffee:

Haynesworth will not be available guys, the Titans have already stated that they will franchise tag him.
Also, take that free-agent list with a grain of salt...it still have Cedric Cobbs listed as an RFA with us and Fred Taylor as being available when he just signed a 3-year extension in the off-season.
Here is my list though
Julius Jones (RB)
(OL)Alan Faneca, Ryan Lilja, Jake Scott, or Max Starks-any one or two of these guys would help our o-line greatly
re-sign Stokley and sign Patrick Crayton or Bernard Berrian
(DE) Jared Allen, Justin Smith, or Terrell Suggs
(LB) Lance Briggs, Boss Bailey, or Lemar Marshall
(CB) Asante Samuel (yeah right lol), Domonique Foxworth, Karl Paymah
(S) better draft one cuz there aren't any good ones in free agency
re-sign todd sauerbrun

Well Lance Briggs will be the best available player in the FA. And adding him would be amazing. but probably not likely due to money.
No one else really sticks out as players who could come in and immediately start. And i would prefer to draft for depth rather than sign FA's to larger contracts.
A couple names that did stick out though were resigning Brandon Stokely. And if Rod won't ever be able to come back  and Walker will continue to suffer knee problems, then maybe bringing in someone like Andre Davis (Houston) or D.J. Hackett (Seahawks) wouldn't to be too bad of an idea.
No matter what, it's kinda early looking ahead to the FA isn't it? :)

Anyone ever think about NOT GOING AFTER OLD OVERPRICED TALENT? There is not too many cases of these players working out. Here's the plan:
1. Draft good trustworthy players
2. Develop and hone their talent
3. Accumulate draft picks NOT free agents
4. As soon as they ask for ridiculous $$, cut or see if they want to play "TEAM' ball and negotiate.
I'm so sick of people wondering who can we go BUY, how about who can we draft and DEVELOP.

Agreed. Denver needs to start drafting better, and using FA to add quality players. Like the Patriots.
Look at their FA signings. Thomas, Moss, and Welker.

Welker wasn't FA, he was traded for a 2nd and 7th round picks.

I would like to see us bring in:
1. Tony Richardson, FB: We need a good lead blocker instead of all these castoff runningbacks.
2. Karlos Dansby, OLB: This is utopian, but he would be a really good SLB with DJ moving back to Will and drafting a kid like Dan Connor to play the middle.

Randy Moss was traded for a 4th round pick, which ended up being a CB and is a 3rd stringer at best for the Raiders. In essence Patsies gave up nothing to get Moss.

There's not one DT on your list and DT is the gaping hole in the Denver defense. They are just getting killed on the left side of the Denver DL.
Sam Adams is so old and slow he can't even practice more than 3 days a week and can't play more than 10 snaps a game. I knew they were in trouble when I saw Adams down on one knee sucking oxygen in the 2nd quarter of the Buffalo game. Sometimes they can't even get him on the field. Against Indy he was so slow they knew he'd never be able to roll off the field in time, so he was inactive. He's a good candidate for retirement -- totally useless.
Antwon Burton is just a minor league scrub. He should be gone next year if they get anybody better. Alvin McKinley is too light to do anything.
Hopefully Marcus Thomas will improve in his second year as a starter, but the DTs have ZERO depth, let alone quality depth in case of injury.
Denver desperately needs two starting quality DTs, one via FA and another by means of the draft in the first 3 rounds. You can bet that now that Selvin Young is looking like a keeper so that RB is perhaps not a top need, DT just vaulted to the top of the list.
Other desperate needs are at safety to line up a replacement for John Lynch if his neck continues to be a problem. A FA safety and a draft pick to groom for a season would be ideal.
Even if they franchise Foxworth, CB is another draft need. Paymah doesn't look like he'll ever develop into a good nickel CB and Foxworth will be gone after the 2008 season unless they offer him starter money, which they won't. Other teams will. Exit Foxworth. A CB drafted in 2008 would have a year to learn the ropes before they'd have to use him in the nickel.
WR - If Javon Walker's knee is going to continue to be a problem (unknown) then WR instantly becomes the top need. Glenn Martinez is not a suitable #2 WR. There should be some FAs worth a look here. Forget drafting a WR. That's almost never worked for Shanahan.
OG/OT - The OL is in horrible shape and it's unclear whether time will cure the problem. Tom Nalen is no spring chicken and his loss just devastated the line. They depend heavily on having a pro-bowl caliber center and it doesn't look like Chris Myers is going to be the long-term answer. They drafted Eslinger with the idea that he'd be a useful backup by now. He isn't. He's a long-shot to even make the team next year, in his last year of practice squad eligibility. He's also played in NFL Europe to no avail, he still didn't make the 53 man roster. NEXT!

Can you name any DT's worth anything that will be a FA besides Haynesworth? If shanny doesnt spend First day pick on DT or trade for one then expect same as this year, scraping the bottom of the waiver wire or Taco Bell....

I think you are spot on the only remarks i have is this
Shanny got brandon marshall. so to say shanny has completly failed i think is a little misleading Also Nash had a great career lol just not in denver. i also think lelie would have been great in this offense this year. to bad he couldnt have waited.
I am tottally with you on Eslinger. Didnt he win a award in NFLE? Unless he is working on his strength he wont cut it. he has great technique, bit he has to get stronger if he cant Mark Fenton might be a decent back up

THE ONLY FA WE NEED FOR NEXT YEAR IS:
BOB SANDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:fight:
Tommy Kelly from the Raiders may be a decent pickup?
I for one would rather us pick up some lower name FA but isn't over the hill or a bust... just a blue collar guy.
I mean: We picked Adams who was OLD
and Kennedy who was a bust for his low work ethic...
how about instead of going for a superstar we make sure we get one decent DT in FA that isn't awe inspiring but helps the rest of the D get the job done

I think both Bronco_Rob & Cugel have good points if you combine both. Here's what the Broncos might realistically be able to do:
Defensive Line is far and away the biggest need! Hayneworth is not going to happen and there aren't currently any FA's worth jumping up and down about. Damione Lewis could be a decent pick-up if he's available (I think he only signed a one year deal), but they might have trade opportunities here too. Kris Jenkins could be available again and probably wouldn't cost much and others might be added to the list. Denver should go after the best available DT (through trade or FA) and draft two more. Personally, I think if they draft high enough and either Calais Campbell or Chris Long are on the board then they draft another DE as fast as they can. I'm tired of mediocre defensive lines! Great teams have great lines. Sorry Bronco_Rob, but we aren't going to get a great DE in free agency; we'll be more apt to get a good DT.
Offensive Line is the second biggest need that can be fixed with one quick signing by the name of Alan Faneca. I don't know if Tom Nalen will come back yet, but Ben Hamilton could "finally" slide to center, with Faneca taking his place. Lepsis is still above average and will be better next year. Let Montrae Holland and Chris Kuper battle it out at the other guard spot and let Pears fill out the line. If Starks or another OL can be had for a reasonable price I wouldn't be against signing two, but Faneca will cost a bundle. Probably draft another one for depth, but will have Ryan Harris and Chris Myers as pretty good back-ups too. If healthy, this would be a pretty good line.
Linebacker is another need with many options available in free agency. I think once we fix our defensive line the linebackers are going to be much better. I think Champ can convince Boss to come here pretty cheap and would love either Dansby or Briggs. I'm alright with Ian Gold and I'm also alright with D.J. Williams in the middle unless we get a great one in FA. One good get, even if it's just Boss, will make this unit better once the DL is fixed. Should draft 1-2 for depth or possible starters in the near future. I think 80% of our defensive problems right now are summed up in the fact that we are 31st (up from last) in the league in rush defense and are getting no pressure. The rest of our defense is not that bad, but are in a no win situation most of the time.
As far as RB, it only becomes a need if Henry doesn't make it. If he is cleared he starts with a clean slate, and don't forget that he has Shanny's backing now. I'm not crazy about the guy--maybe it's just the 9 kids with 9 different women, or the fact he's a pothead--but he is GREAT for this system. If he's gone, I say get rid of him for good and get a good one in FA and another one in the draft. Selvin Young I like, but I don't think he's a workhorse. Andre Hall might be a pretty good change of pace guy and Mike Bell is versatile enough to play both spots, so it pretty much all comes down to Henry.
As far as safety, there's a lot of scenarios that could play out. One would be moving Foxworth back there and giving him starters money before we lose him. One option in FA is going to be a guy they passed over last year, that being Ken Hamlin. Not a good cover guy, but hit's like a ton of bricks. There's a lot of stop-gap guys out there like Donovan Darius, Lawyer Milloy, etc., but they definitely draft 1-2. I think Lynch comes back again and I also wonder if Sam Brandon will be healed up by then. I know he's cut, but he could be an option. There's not much there in FA and I don't think Denver can afford a high pick here with the other "pressing" needs we have. There's enough options here to get by and see if someone falls into our lap. Cugel, I don't think safety is going to be as big of a need as some think, although I think it's a need.
Most are thinking by now that Denver can't afford 3-5 big name guys, but they are freeing up some cap space with more to come, plus they are the best at "making it happen." They free up more space with Jake Plummer too. Oh, and a quick side note, I think Rod Smith is coming back to try and help this team and go out the right way. I'm pulling for him!
Imagine this:
DE-Calais Campbell, Tim Crowder
DT-Marcus Thomas, Red Bryant
DT-Kris Jenkins, Franklin Okam
DE-Elvis Dumervil, Jarvis Moss
LB-Boss Bailey, Nate Webster
LB-D.J. Williams, Vince Hall
LB-Ian Gold, Jordan Beck
CB-Champ Bailey, Karl Paymah
CB-Dre Bly, Dominique Foxworth
S-Ken Hamlin, Nick Ferguson
S-John Lynch, Hamza Abdullah
I'll take this defense over our currrent one any day of the week!
WR-Brandon Marshall, Rod Smith
WR-Javon Walker, Brandon Stokely
TE-Dan Graham, Tony Scheffler
OT-Matt Lepsis, Ryan Harris
OG-Alan Faneca, Chris Myers
C-Ben Hamilton, Mark Fenton
OG-Montrae Holland, Chris Kuper
OT-Erik Pears, Tony Hills
QB-Jay Cutler, Patrick Ramsey
RB-Travis Henry, Selvin Young
FB-Cecil Sapp, Mike Bell
I can live with this!

Boss Bailey and convert him to a safety in the eventual succession of Lynch.
