WR Brandon Stokley UFA <----Most important, imo.
TE Nate Jackson UFA <----Ya'll KNOW this'll be the first guy Shanahan signs. :D

P Todd Sauerbrun UFA <----One more year then draft Britton Colquitt.
OG Martin Bibla UFA
OG Montrae Holland UFA <----For some reason I think the Broncos already extended his new contract?
OG Chris Myers RFA <----Could be the future at center where they're all about 290lb's.
DL Ebenezer Ekuban UFA
CB Dre' Bly UFA <----Already done.
CB Domonique Foxworth RFA Trade if possible.
CB Karl Paymah RFA 3rd round tender.
SS Brandon Browner RFA <----That's right, I said it.
SS Nick Ferguson UFA <----Would be nice to keep him around for depth and ST's.

FB Cecil Sapp UFA
WR Brandon Stokley UFA -> Very good 3rd Receiver
TE Nate Jackson UFA
PK Jason Elam UFA -> Who else do we have? Too bad we didn't have a 5th round pick to spend on Crosby
P Todd Sauerbrun UFA -> Again, who else do we have?
OG Montrae Holland UFA -> Haven't heard his name much, so that can't be too bad
OG Chris Myers RFA -> Good for depth, maybe good starter too?
DL Ebenezer Ekuban UFA -> He can hopefully shore up our running game a little, but we might wanna go with our youth instead
CB Domonique Foxworth RFA -> He's a great nickel back
CB Karl Paymah RFA -> Good potential
SS Nick Ferguson UFA -> Good depth behind Hamza
FS Hamza Abdullah RFA -> Played lights out, let's see some more of him!

Plus, this is what they need to do in FA & draft:

Defensive Line is far and away the biggest need! Hayneworth is not going to happen and there aren't currently any FA's worth jumping up and down about. Damione Lewis could be a decent pick-up if he's available (I think he only signed a one year deal), but they might have trade opportunities here too. Kris Jenkins could be available again and probably wouldn't cost much and others might be added to the list. Denver should go after the best available DT (through trade or FA) and draft two more. Personally, I think if they draft high enough and either Calais Campbell or Chris Long are on the board then they draft another DE as fast as they can. I'm tired of mediocre defensive lines! Great teams have great lines.

Offensive Line is the second biggest need that can be fixed with one quick signing by the name of Alan Faneca. I don't know if Tom Nalen will come back yet, but Ben Hamilton could "finally" slide to center, with Faneca taking his place. Lepsis is still above average and will be better next year. Let Montrae Holland and Chris Kuper battle it out at the other guard spot and let Pears fill out the line. If Starks or another OL can be had for a reasonable price I wouldn't be against signing two, but Faneca will cost a bundle. Probably draft another one for depth, but will have Ryan Harris and Chris Myers as pretty good back-ups too. If healthy, this would be a pretty good line.

Linebacker is another need with many options available in free agency. I think once we fix our defensive line the linebackers are going to be much better. I think Champ can convince Boss to come here pretty cheap and would love either Dansby or Briggs. I'm alright with Ian Gold and I'm also alright with D.J. Williams in the middle unless we get a great one in FA. One good get, even if it's just Boss, will make this unit better once the DL is fixed. Should draft 1-2 for depth or possible starters in the near future. I think 80% of our defensive problems right now are summed up in the fact that we are 31st (up from last) in the league in rush defense and are getting no pressure. The rest of our defense is not that bad, but are in a no win situation most of the time.

As far as RB, it only becomes a need if Henry doesn't make it. If he is cleared he starts with a clean slate, and don't forget that he has Shanny's backing now. I'm not crazy about the guy--maybe it's just the 9 kids with 9 different women, or the fact he's a pothead--but he is GREAT for this system. If he's gone, I say get rid of him for good and get a good one in FA and another one in the draft. Selvin Young I like, but I don't think he's a workhorse. Andre Hall might be a pretty good change of pace guy and Mike Bell is versatile enough to play both spots, so it pretty much all comes down to Henry.

As far as safety, there's a lot of scenarios that could play out. One would be moving Foxworth back there and giving him starters money before we lose him. One option in FA is going to be a guy they passed over last year, that being Ken Hamlin. Not a good cover guy, but hit's like a ton of bricks. There's a lot of stop-gap guys out there like Donovan Darius, Lawyer Milloy, etc., but they definitely draft 1-2. I think Lynch comes back again and I also wonder if Sam Brandon will be healed up by then. I know he's cut, but he could be an option. There's not much there in FA and I don't think Denver can afford a high pick here with the other "pressing" needs we have. There's enough options here to get by and see if someone falls into our lap.

Most are thinking by now that Denver can't afford 3-5 big name guys, but they are freeing up some cap space with more to come, plus they are the best at "making it happen." They free up more space with Jake Plummer too. Oh, and a quick side note, I think Rod Smith is coming back to try and help this team and go out the right way. I'm pulling for him!

Imagine this:

DE-Calais Campbell, Tim Crowder
DT-Marcus Thomas, Red Bryant
DT-Kris Jenkins, Franklin Okam
DE-Elvis Dumervil, Jarvis Moss
LB-Boss Bailey, Nate Webster
LB-D.J. Williams, Vince Hall
LB-Ian Gold, Jordan Beck
CB-Champ Bailey, Karl Paymah
CB-Dre Bly, Dominique Foxworth
S-Ken Hamlin, Nick Ferguson
S-John Lynch, Hamza Abdullah

I'll take this defense over our currrent one any day of the week!

WR-Brandon Marshall, Rod Smith
WR-Javon Walker, Brandon Stokely
TE-Dan Graham, Tony Scheffler
OT-Matt Lepsis, Ryan Harris
OG-Alan Faneca, Chris Myers
C-Ben Hamilton, Mark Fenton
OG-Montrae Holland, Chris Kuper
OT-Erik Pears, Tony Hills
QB-Jay Cutler, Patrick Ramsey
RB-Travis Henry, Selvin Young
FB-Cecil Sapp, Mike Bell

I can live with this!

I see Boss and Gold as an either/or situation. They both are weak side backers, and would look terrible at SAM. There's no way both are on our roster next year.

WR Brandon Stokley UFA clutch
TE Nate Jackson UFA Finally showed some of his potential
PK Jason Elam UFA Should finish career here
P Todd Sauerbrun UFA we know what we have which is just above average
OG Montrae Holland UFA already extended
OG Chris Myers RFA why not
CB Domonique Foxworth RFA Future FS? if not 1 rd tender....
CB Karl Paymah RFA average

My opinion is that some of these guys are average, however I think that there is alot to be said about continuity and comfort that should bring their play up some

Great topic

Browner would upgrade special teams, if his head is on straight we could use him. (Looking great in Calgary)

If we get Boss then Gold is gone, Boss is great in pass coverage too, I'm not too sure of the run defense though.

From what I gather these are the players currently signed that have contracts expiring at the end of the season, there are all according to the NFLPA website:

Hamza Abdullah (RFA)
Stephen Alexander (UFA)
Sam Adams (UFA)
Ebenezer Ekuban (UFA)
Jason Elam (UFA)
Todd Sauerbrunn (UFA)
Nick Ferguson (UFA)
Domonique Foxworth (RFA)
Karl Paymah (RFA)
Antwon Burton (ERFA)
Jamie Winborn (UFA)
Chris Myers (RFA)
Erik Pears (ERFA)
Cecil Sapp (UFA)
Nate Jackson (UFA)
Brandon Stokley (UFA)

Montrae Holland has a deal that goes to 2009.

Of these players I think we should put the highest (1st and 3rd) tender on Foxworth. We should put the lowest tender on Paymah since he was drafted in the third, so we would get a 3rd for him. We should put a 2nd round tender on Abdullah. We should put the lowest tender on Myers. We should give a tender to Pears who is ERFA so other teams can only talk to him if we don't tender.

For the unrestricted players, I think we should resign them in this prioritized sequence:

Ekuban, will really help our run D and can put some pressure on the QB.
Stokley, super solid hands.
Elam, the best clutch kicker in the game.
Sauerbrunn, the best punter we can get.
Jamie Winborn, underrated special teamer and good depth player.
Cecil Sapp, Depth at RB is always good and can play ST and FB.
Nate Jackson, plays special teams and adds TE depth.

As for going after other teams free agents, I think most interesting names to me are:

Karlos Dansby, OLB. He is a strong OLB who is young enough to be part of the future.
Bernard Berrian, WR. If Walker has lingering effects from his knee injury or Stokley leaves we are left with a need. He has the speed we lack.

I do think we should let Alexander go, he is good depth, but doesn't play special teams so will be inactive for games. Ferguson is good depth, but if Lynch plays another year we could use this roster spot for a young player to gain experience. Adams won't be resigned and I don't think Burton has done enough to make the roster but could stay on the PS.
