Firstly, good job as always.
I think like you that DT is a huge need. Amon Gordon and Antwon Burton both managed to convince management, the fans and me that they are not the answer. Marcus Thomas is improving all the time and is beginning to look comfortable as an NFL DT. McKinley is athleticly sound and shows good gap penetration but it not a big space eater. I believe like you that they will both make the squad next year.
I do think we need to address DT in the first round, for one thing I don't think Okam will be good value in the 1st round, he has been largely disappointing this year in terms of production.
As for OT, I don't think it is quite as pressing need as the defensive side of the ball. Experience show that most players take a full year of playing before they are 100% fit after a microfracture surgery, I do think Lepsis will be better next year. I also think part of the reason he has underperformed has been the instability at LG where he has played next to Myers and Kuper leaving him very much alone.
I see our biggest need at LB. Webster is clearly too slow to play the outside consistently, he is a good tackler and holds up nicely along the line but is subpar in coverage and often gets beat to the corner. I agree with you that Gold would have been gone if Wilson was still around, he will be gone this year, he is due for a pretty hefty salary in 2008 and with his coverage skills diminishing and still arm tackling like crazy he is not worth it.
DJ has shown good things in the middle the last couple of games and I think he will be kept in the middle. Right now it looks like we will draft below the middle, so the top 3 linebackers could all be gone (Rivers, Connor and Laurenaitis) if this happens the choice would be between Maualeuga and an offensive tackle.

Rey is going back for his senior year. well that is what i am reading anyhow. plus if you like DJ in the middle you dont select maualauga. asi dont think he could play OLB in the pros. He definelty needs to go back for his senior year for some seasoning. He is great at tackleing and getting off blocks but he is subpar with his instincts. and tends to over pursue. if he goes back one more year i think he has a chance of bcoming a top ten next year

Thanks for your response, all great comments but this is what I didn't understand.
Here are Okam's stats: Starting all 11 games, Okam has compiled 43 tackles - including eight for loss, 4.5 sacks, 14 quarterback hurries, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and four defended passes.
That's very, very impressive - considering the amount of double teams he's receiving.
For comparison, Dorsey has 34 tackles, 11.5 for loss, 6 sacks, four defended passes and four quarterback hurries.
There's no doubt in my mind that Dorsey is the better player, but Okam is not producing poorly at all. He's one of the top producing defensive tackles in the nation and commands double teams. Those 14 hurries have often given the opportunity for others to finish off the job. Okam produces on the field, is a fantastic student in the classroom and works hard. He might slip a little, but he's worthy of a first-round selection. Guys that big with that much talent are rare.
Once again thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Once again thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving.Alot of people have Okam Dropping i think i read on NFLDRAFTSCOUT.COM hes a 2-3 round selection. Which boggles me. IMO there is NO WAY he drops that far. Especially with SO many teams needing a NT. Cleveland, San Fransico, NY Jets(especially fi they get rid of robertson) and Giants, Dallas, Buffalo, just to name a few off the top of my head. His type of tackle is in high demand this year. and if he did slip to us in the second we have to run to the comish to get our pick in.
Oh and Happy Thanksgiving to you
okam is gonna fall real far just like the top DT has the last few years for one reason... he is lazy... he would be a waste of a pick we dont need another gerrad warren who wont live up to their potentiol. I would rather reach for wheeler in round one and get dre moore in round 2. Of course my dream pick is johnathan stewart.

Anybody who has Okam drafted is an A+ in my book. Okam will be an instant up-grade over any players we have at DT right now. There's no freeagents who I see that will help us unless the Jags decieds that they don't need two great DT's LOL(I wish). Unless a great player slips and comes our way (ex:Jake Long or Darrent McFadden), Okam or some other defensive player will be our first rounder.

even though i am starting to warm to the idea the he might be in the orange and blue next year i still have my doubts. depending how the board looks when we pick i think Dan Connor would be a better pick in the first. then in the second i would to see Kentwan Balmer DT from North Carolina be taken. at 6'5 298 he just a little under weight but only by 22lbs (to Okam) and Balmer is faster than Okam.
i just dont know what it is about Okam that i dont like maybe its the fact that people label him as lazy. i know dream you said he's not but anytime someone labels you as that it sticks with you. im not saying he couldnt turn out to be a monster, im just saying pick with caution.

Okam is not lazy. Holy crap. Where that comes from, I don't know.
He's a 4.0 student, he's dominated against extensive double teams all year long, the Texans think he's their most valuable defensive player, and he supposably already took and crushed his LSAT for law school.
Lazy people do not get into law school. That's a fact. Lazy people also don't put up his statistics and that also is a fact.
The problem with Okam is that he may not play football, he may pursue a career in law. Thus, it's not his effort, it's his heart that *may* be in question. "May"!
Regardless, he's the best, and maybe only decent Nose Tackle in this draft. Red Bryant seems to be firmly at #2 for Nose Tackles, but that's a massive dropoff.
As for the rest of Dream's Mock....
I like Philip Wheeler, but we differ as to where he will play. I think he's a natural MIKE, probably even moreso an ILB in a 3-4 defense. I don't really like him outside. The guy I like in the late 2nd round is Ezra Butler who is easily the best SAM LB in this draft. That would allow us to move Webster back to primary backup at MIKE, leave Gold at WILL, and upgrade at SAM.
The only other pick I really have a strong feeling towards is Quintin Demps, whom I really like. But I dont think he lasts past the 2nd round. He's a really good all-around player.
I'll have to look into McClinton, I usually dismiss the smaller DTs out-of-hand unless I hear they have a wrestling history and have mastered leverage techniques.

People get that from seeing Gerrard Warren or also having a case of stupid football stereotypes.
Big Defensive Tackle, first rounder, tons of potential. Going to bust in the pros because the big men get lazy.
It's really dumb, but one person says hes lazy and everyone else just follows in line.

its not that he's lazy its the fact every once in a while he'll take a play off. and maybe that play he takes off is because he's tired from a double team or whatever. if your tired and need a break get off the field. because once a scout or coach sees that, thats how you get the label "lazy" or "inconsistant". if being tired is the case then i would have no problem drafting him because i feel our coaching would be able to get him on and off the field when they need him to.
