Way too early to be judging the accuracy of mocks. Half those juniors might not even come out. I think if Gholston comes out he will be a 1st round pick. Just look at his stats. And he's bound to be a combine freak, the guy is ripped.

There's also the problem of misspelling Michael Oher's name.

That's really not Kiper. I didn't even see who our first-rounder was? Wheeler and who?

Quentin Groves the tweener(de/lb) from Auburn. I think this mock is pretty inaccurate, why would we take Groves and then Wheeler? I like Wheeler in the second, but our first round should concentrade on dt, safety, or if some o-line steal is there why not.

I didnt even realize it was an actual mock, I thought it was just a general listing of 2nd round prospects.

Based on that, it looked pretty accurate to me barring a couple changes.

In terms of mock, I don't like our picks. Wheeler is a great MIKE, which we don't need (I'm a believer in DJ at MIKE obviously). And Groves is just not needed with the DE picks last draft. Obviously, this guy isn't familiar with Denver.

My point exactly, what are we going to do with a tweener and a LB who plays the Middle?

I dont know if it was a real kiper mock... If it wasnt my apologies.

I aggree with you leave DJ at 'MIKE'. I think we need to put him in one position and leave him. I fear if we dont. He will never excell at one position. Become Super frustrated and if he gets the chance will bolt when and if he hits the open market.

I have not followed Groves around much, What are his stats? i thought i read he had either 4.4 or 4.5 speed. Please correct me if i am wrong. If he is that quick of course a position hell more then likely play is 3-4 LB or 4-3 end. But if he does have that speed you gotta wonder if he can play 'WLB' he is a monster of a pass rusher. and would add a angle to our D with a guy that can actually rush the QB from the LB spot. We are horrible at this. I am not a huge advocat of adding a linebacker over DT or OL in the 1st, especially if we lose out on henry.

Anyone have any scouting reports on him as far as pass defense?

Groves has three sacks, seven tackles for losses, 35 total tackles, and 23 quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles this season despite missing two games and a limited role in two others because of three dislocated toes. He's seeing more playing time at outside linebacker throughtout the season and has been playing there more than usual late.

Groves wouldn't fit our scheme. We don't blitz OLBs very often, and with our overemphasis on pass rushing DEs, we really need true LBs and not specialists.

How did he look playing OLB can he play zone or man with any ability?

That seems realistic to me.

Now, I don't disagree that Shanahan will go after Briggs, Shanahan does all kinds of stupid crap in Free Agency every year, so anything is possible. I just disagree that Lance Briggs is worth the money someone will pay him. I think he's better then Ian Gold for sure, but I dont think he's 5 million dollars per year + bonus better then Ian Gold.

As for Dan Connor, I think he's a future OLB. I really don't think we will be moving DJ Williams from MIKE, he has been excellent there as of late, and is putting up a monster season. What people seem to forget is that DJ Williams sucked ass at WILL. He was terrible. He put up a lot of tackles, but he lacked the ability to blitz off the edge effectively and he's very limited in coverage due to stiff change of direction.
You get all these people that say Ian Gold sucks and that statistics don't matter, but those same people base their opinion that DJ was great at WILL solely on his tackle statistics. It's mind-boggling.

DJ is a natural MIKE, it's where he should have played the moment he was drafted, though we had Wilson at the time, which is why he was played outside.

Anyway, Dan Connor is without a doubt an option for us in the 1st or 2nd round, more likely the 1st. However, I'd place a 1st round LB (in this deep draft) tied with RB (which is about 4th on our list) for first round needs.

In this draft, especially where we will be picking (as it looks now), OLB will be the best value and deepest position well into the 2nd round. I would easily pass over a mid 1st round LB for a mid 2nd round LB this draft. The dropoff is minimal. So, obviously, I think ANY LB in the 1st round, outside of Laurenitis, is poor value for this particular draft.

I would also mention that I dont think Quintin Demps gets out of the 2nd round. He is going to compete with Heffney and Griffin to be the top safety taken (unless the 2 juniors come out).

As for the rest of the draft, I haven't really delved into some of those guys yet. DT Frank Morton though is probably a 7th round pick at best.

#29 CB/ Jack Ikegwuonu/ Wisonsin

Jack won't go pro.

I grew up with this guy, went to high school with him, and have watched him play great football with Wisconsin.

He had an off year that hurt is stock.. due to being injured.

I highly doubt he'll turn pro, instead of coming back to a solid Badgers secondary.

We don't do extensive OLB blitzing like a 3-4 defense, which unless we are switching schemes, there's no point in taking a one-dimensional prospect in the 1st round.

You do want an OLB that can blitz from the outside occasionally. We do this with Ian Gold. We just don't do it very often, but you do want an OLB that provides you that option and threat if you wish to do it.

Which I simply do not understand. If you have DJ Williams and Ian Gold, the one attribute they do have is speed...they should attack from the edge on the blitz several times during the game. You have to attack QB's.

The Broncos made key plays on the blitz against Bret Favre and Green Bay in SB XXXII by blitzing Romanowski and Steve Atwater that forced key turnovers.

We should have DJ and Ian attacking the QB, but they never do.

I have to think Jim Bates is toast...

No?

That just means Bob Slowick will take over....not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

BTW, I would not mind drafting Ohio St DE Vernon Gohlston in the first round. He looks like a player to me, and can rotate around to different positions. But he is big and strong and would compliment Tim Crowder.

The reason we dont blitz with our linebackers often is because our DE's attack the edge. I think it is a horrible idea blitzing with safties like ours. there easily picked up and rarely make even the smallest impact.

If the guy can play run and pass good. then having a guy that can do all three is something to be desired. I am not talking about blitzing him every play i am just saying in certain situations where he could tip the scales.MUG yes were all fans of Okam but what if he is not there. what if any of the safties you mentioned are not there. and its highly possible that stewart is gone. you guys can mark this down but i jackson will bust. and if he doesnt then he will only be a special teams player. which i think is folly drafting in the first

For those saying "_______ will be gone", you are getting way ahead of yourselves. The season isn't even over yet. Who knows what position we'll end up in and how certain prospects will project.
