We have a great core of young players around...how many of them will we keep, and who will be heading up the team 3 years from now?
QB: Jay Cutler
LT: Ryan Harris?
LG: Ben Hamilton/Mark Fenton?
C: Chris Myers
RG: Kris Kuper
RT: Eric Pears
WR: Brandon Marshall
WR: Stokely?/Walker?
WR: (A younger guy if either walker or stokely are gone...maybe draft Marlon White? Maybe Rod will be limping around the field? j/k)
TE: Sheffler/Graham
FB: Cecil Sapp
HB: Andre Hall? Henry? Young? John Doe?
DE: Dumervil
DT: Thomas
DT: (Draft?) Burton?
DE: Crowder?/Moss?
SAM: (Draft/FA?)
MLB: Williams (Will he be moved to Weakside or Strongside?)
WIL: (Draft/FA?) Briggs?
CB: Foxworth? (Will Bailey still be quick enough to hold his own as a starter?)
CB: Paymah
CB: (Draft a nickel?)
FS: (Draft?)
SS: Abdullah
K: Elam?
P: Sauerbrun?
In their 12th seasons, will Bly and Bailey be around? Shipped somewhere else, retired? I think Bailey will be in prime physical condition longer than Bly, maybe he can play safety or nickel like some other famous CBs as they were on the decline?
While looking at our current starters, I noticed that our offensive line all of a sudden looks VERY young, and they have been performing very well. Perhaps if the group we have now were to bulk up a slight bit we could run the ball better in the red zone. Our offense is looking incredibly good for the long run.
Linebacker will be a glaring need soon, we have DJ, who is still young, but Gold is on the decline and is showing it.
Our safeties are aging, but luckily, Abdullah has stepped it up. Also, if Bly and Bailey are around for another couple of years, will Foxworth (or maybe Paymah) want out via free agency this year seeing as how they won't be the number 1 or 2 guy on the team for a couple years?
Our punter and kicker are both old...and one is really old. Will Elam be around much longer? He is faltering slightly, but he has shown time in and time out that he still has what it takes in clutch and must-have situations...I believe that, like Rod, Jason Elam has a spot here as long as he wants and can perform. Will he be chasing the all-time scoring record?
How many of these young players will lose their job in training camps to a younger player, be lost via free agency, or just fall off talent-wise?
:coffee:
Just some food for though...I'm bored...thought I would throw some of this stuff out.
Lol, I just had a crazy idea. What if we had a whole different O-line for inside the 5-10 yard line..... nahhh.
You are right about the young core, and I am glad we do have that. I am gonna be really sad when Bailey retires though =( .. I hope he becomes a CB coach or something for the Broncos when it does happen.

All I know, is that I hope our running back in 2010 will come from this coming draft

If we can solve a couple Defensive woes this offseason (our defense now is starting to gel together and play much better), then the Broncos will be a force to be reckoned with next season. I think It will be Nalen's last year, and Lepsis may have a couple left...Javon will hopefully be healthy, Rod might be back, Ben Hamilton will be back....it will be improving IMMENSELY upon an offense that is already proving to be stacked. Not to mention our red-zone problems with Hamilton and Nalen back in would be fixed, not to mention having Tony Scheffler the whole season. I'm liking this more and more.

I'm going to get crucified for this, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Cutler was not part of the team going into 2010. He's never really seemed 100% into Denver. He's never been against it either, but he didn't exactly make it a secret that he would have rather gone to Tennessee in the draft, the other week. Not saying it will happen, and I hope it doesn't, but in todays NFL it wouldn't shock me.
Bailey I could see leaving if the team doesn't show it can at least challenge for a super bowl. A player of his talent deserves at least a shot in the big game.
Elam will be around for a while yet, barring injury or his own choice for retirement. Look at Morton Andersen, I could see Denver drafting a kicker in to cover the longer kicks in a couple of years. But in general Elams got pleanty left.

.
But thats not really true...Cutler likes living in Denver, all his family has moved here. The dude has a house in the burbs for cryin out loud. Cutler would only be gone because of declining performance, which I definitely DON'T see happening.

I'm not going to crucify you, but I definitely think you are wrong. Cutler may have said that now because the team is faltering a bit and Denver fans can be tough. I think the opposite really, I think he is going to continue to grow, he is going to be come Denver/Colorado/Every broncos' fan's favorite person in the world and he will embrace it and make people forget the the early post elway days (griese/plum) and even begin challenging people who was the better qb, #7, or #6? Hmmmmm... wonder if I'll have my season tickets by then
I think Cutler would not want to play anywhere but Denver. Denver is arguably the hardest team in the NFL to QB for. Cutler strikes me as the type of person that wants to be the best and take on all challanges. He played at vandy for gods sake ;) I think he's here to stay.

Granted its a "rebuilding" year (oh wait it wasn't, I forgot) . .erm ya. But considering we had something like 60% turnover this year for players, I can't imagine virtually the entire same O there in 2010.
My guess is that by then Stoke and Rod will have retired, we'll probably have either Walker or Marsh. We'll have a couple different O linemen, probably keep Scheff and Graham. New FB new HB's. Maybe still Have Young in 3 years, but my guess is that we'll keep tying to find a "franchise" back . . .Young is good but not that good yet, so I'd guess he gets traded at some point. Cutler will be here lacking big breakdown somewhere.
On D, I'm guessing Bailey and Bly will be here, Moss, Crowder, Dumervil should. Perhaps Thomas will be but haven't seen enough yet to guess. For our LB and our S position I'm not betting anything, Shanny might decide to totally blow it up after this year, and I'm pretty sure Lynch won't be around.
Don't know if Elam will stay around, kickers can play pretty late, but he's losing leg over 40 now. I'd be surprised if Saurbrun is still here, since he doesn't seem to have quite the leg he used to.
Its fun to guess, but a little pie in the sky as others have pointed out. But if nothing else, I do think that the draft of these last few years have been much improved, and that we have some core players from those drafts that should stick around for a good long time barring regression in play/ contract disputes/ whatever.

This is what I want to see in 2010:
Position Name Age
WR1: Marshall 26
WR2: Earl Bennet 24 [08 or 09 draft out of Vandy]
WR3: Walker 32
TE1: Graham 32
TE2: Schef 26
TE3: Nate Jackson 30
LT: Harris 25
LG: Meyers 29
C: Hamilton 33
RG: Kuper/Holland 27/30
RT: Pears 28
QB: Cutler 27
RB: Young/Hall 27/28 Does it matter?
DE Dumervil/Moss 26/26
DT Thomas 25
DT DRAFT SOMEONE
DE Crowder 25
WLB Rivers 24 [08 Draft SoCal]
MLB DJ Williams 28
SLB ????
CB1: Champ 32
CB2: Fox 27
CB3: Paymah 27
CB4: Bly 33
SS: Abdullah 27
FS: DRAFT SOMEONE
So the way I see it all we need is 2 LBs, 1 FS, 2 DTs, 1 WR. Ofcourse I am talking about HIGH Qualitiy players. I think we can find 6 players in 3 years. Especially if the recent (past two years) trend of drafts continues.

I donīt think Selvin Young/Andre Hall is a longterm solution at RB

I reallllly like the athletic guys we have esp on O. I think Champ will retire a Bronco and be the "new" Lynch. Possibly moving position but whatever. We need him to win a SB imho whether he plays half the D downs or not later in his career. I think this year sice our run is so bad it is affecting their /his play. I'll take Champ today over any CB in the NFL still.
I like our young guys on D, MThomas is an animal with Dumervill. Imagine if Moss really pans out?!
Good lord, we will be wining a Champship in the next 3-5, I surley hope...Champ might have to be a coach by then lol:salute:
