I want for the 2008 season. I don't care what it takes, sign Haynesworth. He will single-handedly improve the defense. Also, sign Alan Faneca. He will bring the nastiness that are o-line needs and open ruunning lanes that we haven't seen since the 97-98 days. These guys will be expensive but well worth it and we will have the money to spend this offseason.
As for the draft, Linebacker in round 1, safety in round 2 or vise versa. Round 4 we go O-line and a return man (WR). Rounds 5-7 O-line and D-line.
What do you guys think??

Haynesworth & Faneca? I like it. We have enough young guys playing on cap friendly contracts that we just might be able to pull it off.

Haynesworth will be franchised, so he is out.
Faneca is going to the highest bidder and we do not have the luxery of over paying for an OG, when we are very deep at that position already with steady players.
Offensive Tackle is where we have some issues on the O-line, if anywhere. The position that might help with what you are discussing would be a dominating blocking fullback.
And there happens to be a few bonecrushers coming out in the draft this year, and FBs usually go in the 4th round area, which is where we have 3 selections.

Corey Williams is also an option if Haynesworth gets tagged. I really feel we are close, we just have to fill are needs with the proper players.
I believe Faneca is a must. We can't run up the middle anymore.

Corey Williams doesn't really fit our scheme too well. He's alot like Marcus Thomas, whom we'll already be using obviously. We would need a Ryan Pickett type to make Corey Williams effective (and Marcus Thomas) and we don't have one. But getting Corey Williams won't help us very much because we don't play our DTs to penetrate.
As for Faneca, I understand your thinking. I just believe the return of Nalen and Hamilton, along with the further development of Kuper, coupled with a dominating blocking FB (which we had during our running heydays) will get us back on track between the tackles.
And drafting a blocking FB will be much cheaper then signing Faneca. It will also allow us to address our needs at other positions with that money.

Do you know any good blocking fullbacks in this years draft so I can read up on them?? I don't really pay attention to the fullbacks when watching the college games.

The O-Line is a major problem, IMO. I am not sure I want Nalen back for his 16th year or whatever....Hamilton's lack of recovery is disturbing, and rumor has it his family is telling him to check out now, since he has already cashed in on the big contract, and his family is financially set....he has four young boys, so don't count out the possibility of him simply retiring.
Lepsis is showing his age and the wear and tear of a ten year NFL career.
Chris Myers has been just OK.
Kuper should become a more effective starter than Cooper Carlisle was at RG, but the Broncos have him at LG, and I am not sure that is a great idea.
Who knows about Montrae Holland, but he and Kuper together are not going to excite me...
I just don't like this idea that our O-Line can be inter-changeable.
When we won the Super Bowl, we had one of the most dominant O-Lines in NFL history.
This version is not even remotley close to that, and this idea that we can just 'get by' is faulty to me, and to me, that's what you are doing with players like Chris Myers, Montrae Holland, Erik Pears and the Ryan Harris types,
just getting by.
It might not be a bad idea to Draft a very good LT next April, because we need to get back to dominating the LOS.

Absolutely. The top 2 FBs are great blockers and solid receivers as well. And I think one, or both, will be available in the 4th round.
1. Owen Schmitt - West Virginia
2. Peyton Hills - Arkansas (The guy I would want)

I certainly think your O-line agenda has merit. But again, it's a matter of perspective, and I think you and I represent opposite views on it.
Ryan Harris is a future LT. He has all the talents and smarts in the world to be good, it's really just a matter of him developing and staying healthy. I have alot of confidence in him as I really liked him coming out of Notre Dame, even after his senior year.
I think Kuper is a fine starting guard. Montrae Holland is a bigger guy, and appears excellent as a backup #3 OG. I do believe Hamilton comes back, the contract he signed was actually at a massive hometown discount, he only gets around 3 million per year. We stole him at that price because he's a very good OG. And I like Myers, he's impressed me this season, though I'm not sure if he'll resign to be a backup again when his contract comes up.
Lepsis' play definitely worries me, but he's still pretty young and has been excellent for years. I give him one more shot to show he recovered from his injury next season, if not, Harris should be ready for extensive action, and then I might look to draft an OT in 2009 to develop.
I dont really see us changing our O-line scheme, and we usually never start rookies regardless of where we draft them (Kuper being the sole exception). So, even if we draft an OL, I doubt he would help us in the immediate future.

Did you see the game against LSU? He really showed off his stuff. Solid all-around and has *great* hands. If we get him, we'd better dust off the old goal line play-action pass to the FB... an easy six points.

I would love to have Alan Faneca on this team. im starting to agree that Oline needs a makeover. If Nalen comes back then great if not Myers will do just fine. Im starting to wonder what Ryan Harris can do. Kuper just needs more playing time and he'll be ok. Holland is a good backup that can fill in if need be. we do need to address Oline but not within the first 4 rounds. DT, LB, S all need to be addressed first.
