After seeing this team get pushed around on the line game after game. We need to go after a NT/DT. Denver needs to go after this guy.

Isaac Sopoaga NT San Francisco

CAREER: Looks to make an impact as a key member of the defensive line rotation in 2007…Ideal size and athleticism for player in 3-4 defense…Widely considered as one of the strongest players on the team and in the NFL…One of three players on the 49ers (Larry Allen and Tony Wragge) who works out with 200-pound dumbbells…Recorded first career solo sack in 2006 to bring his career total 1.5 sacks along with 56 career tackles…Completed first professional season in 2005 after spending his rookie season in 2004 on injured reserve with a back injury suffered during training camp…Massive powerful defender and big-play specialist with tremendous quickness for size…Unheralded defensive tackle quietly developed into one of college football’s premier defensive players…Called “True Warrior” by former coaches…Excellent run-stuffer with tremendous upside in pass rushing…Can be disruptive in pass rush and initial charge often takes the quarterback out of alignment.

Home Grown Hulk - Growing up in American Samoa, Isaac's first sport was rugby. Part of his conditioning routine was to build up his arms by lifting bags filled with coconuts and logs from chopped-down trees. The leg workout was also geographically geared. "Have you ever seen a 335-pound guy climb a coconut tree?" Isaac didn’t go on to play football until late in his career. That changed when he went to junior college in Southern California and then to the University of Hawaii, where his athleticism and size landed him on the NFL radar

http://www.49ers.com/team/roster_detail.php?PRKey=55&section=TE%20Roster

The plus to him is his age he is only 26 this year. He is flying under the radar he is probably not gonna garner a HUGE contract that i fill we should stay away from in FA. He also will add a veteran presence to a team to let a rookie grow into the position.

Hamza Abdullah (RFA)re-sign
Stephen Alexander (UFA)There is talk that he will retire
Sam Adams (UFA)Cut if we are not able to get Sopaga
Ebenezer Ekuban (UFA)Re-sign - Depending on his health and contract demands

Todd Sauerbrunn (UFA)re-sign
Nick Ferguson (UFA) Cut
Domonique Foxworth (RFA)re-sign
Karl Paymah (RFA)re-sign
Antwon Burton (ERFA)cut
Jamie Winborn (UFA)re-sign
Chris Myers (RFA)re-sign
Erik Pears (ERFA)re-sign
Cecil Sapp (UFA)cut

Brandon Stokley (UFA)re-sign

Draft

Trade down but try to stay in the first round. Depending on how far we trade down it will probably be a 2-3 pick.

1. Frank Okam NT Texas - There is alot being said about him. Is he to tall to be a NT. Among the best 3-4 NT most are between 6'1 to 6'3 but we play a 4-3 where guys like Stroud, Henderson, Ngata just to name a few have succeeded with there play. We expect our lineman to play gaps. but if we need to pressure the QB. Sopaga is said to be able to collapse the pocket. Okam has shown he can do it in college. Marcus Thomas has looked steady this year nothing great nothing horrible. but his playing time has dropped off. He is just a rookie so i will give him more time.

I'm not a huge fan of picking a Run Stuffing NT in the first round. but our defense has been exposed. And at all costs we must address it.

Alternates - Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt Keith RiversAli Highsmith

2A. Ezra Butler - Nevada LB Great Measure-ables His stock is soaring

Alternates -Red Bryant NT Texas A&M If we Miss out on Okam Tavaras Gooden MLB MiamiHis stock is rising. With a few early reports saying that Denver Could move DJ back outside it could a BIG need to go MLB

2B. (if we make a trade down and Aquire a 2nd rounder in our trade down from the first). Josh Barnett SS Arizona State
He is a SS and it would be interesting to see if denver moved Abdullah to FS

Alternates - Thomas Decoud FS Cal DJ hall WR Alabama.

3A.(if we make a trade down and Aquire a 3rd rounder in our trade down from the first) Chris Williams OT Vanderbilt
Alternates -Tony Hills OT Texas
Donnie Avery WR Houston

4A.Peyton Hills FB ArkansasMight be a little bit of a reach But is a great lead blocker something we need

4B. Cory Boyd RB South Carolina

5A. Mauric Purify WR Nebraska

5B. Jordan Dizon LB Colorado

7A. Henery Smith NT Texas A&M

7B. Lousi Holmes DE Arizona with a strong combine he probably wont be here but it is definetly intriguing

Isaac Sopoaga NT San Francisco has definately flew under my radar, but could be a perfect signing.

As for the Draft, I just do not like Okam in the first round. I agree with the PFW article that the type of DTs we need can be found on day two and developed. Of course we need to have a couple vets signed to do that.

Butler, Williams, and everyone after are good picks (not sure all will last to where you have them, but who knows).

1. Frank Okam NT Texas

Some questions about motor and leverage. I don't think his height is a problem. A true 3-4 NT is a different beast, Okam will be better suited to playing the 4-3.

Alternates - Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt Keith RiversAli Highsmith

Otah - great potential but not a ZBS guy

Keith Rivers, Ali Highsmith - both undersized guys likely to play the weakside in the pros. Not sure I like the fit with our needs. Highsmith is a reach in the mid-first.

If you want OT in round 1, then Ryan Clady and Sam Baker would probably be much better fits in our system. At LB, Dan Connor could play either the middle or the strong side.

2A. Ezra Butler - Nevada LB Great Measure-ables His stock is soaring

Butler is solid. I like Beau Bell from UNLV. A tackling machine. Jonathan Goff from Vandy is another interesting prospect. The thing with these guys is that they might be available even later on in the draft simply because of the number of solid LB prospects.

However, if I was going to pick up any LB in the second it would be Philip Wheeler from GT. He's quick / explosive, hits the gaps hard and blitzes well. I think he'll have little trouble adapting to the pro game.

2B. (if we make a trade down and Aquire a 2nd rounder in our trade down from the first). Josh Barnett SS Arizona State
He is a SS and it would be interesting to see if denver moved Abdullah to FS

We really, really need a true FS. Unfortunately, this safety class sucks. I don't think it is the right time to reach or experiment with out-of-position players. Decoud has some potential, but the overall weakness of the safety class may result him going earlier than he should.

4A.Peyton Hills FB ArkansasMight be a little bit of a reach But is a great lead blocker something we need

Even better is his ability to catch the ball. I like this kid.

5B. Jordan Dizon LB Colorado

He's great. His size will scare off some teams, but he would be a steal in the 5th.

I dont think Connor or Sam Baker would be available in the lower first if denver traded out of there mid rounder and if we were to add any of those defensive tackles it might be best if we took someone other than okam in the first.

Thanks man. With the play of winborn the last couple of weeks on ST and his great game subbing in for DJ hes a gamer. can he play WLB or SLB

i am interested in what you think of sopaga.

What do you think they will do this upcoming offseason as far as scheme on D . i think we will keep bates but do you think we will use more of the old scheme compared to what what bates does. i also think they should put bates back up in the box

If we signed Sopoaga, I seriously doubt we would draft a DT in the first round. We'd likely go for a linebacker or safety instead.

And if we draft either a MLB or SS early rather than a OLB or FS I'm going to be irate.

I agree about flying under the radar and would be cheaper than someone like Haynesworth. I think Marcus Thomas could start full time next season, as well as Abdullah (I really like this kid). DE is going to be stacked with young talent, we need a DT like Haynesworth or someone with experience(aka Sopoage) in the middle. I think Thomas is going to be elite and I dont think that having rookie talent @ DT is the solution to all of our problems, we definitely need to draft one, but not necessarily our first rounder. I think OL is needed more than DT, but I would like to see us draft a Safety or LB in w/ our first rounder. Webster isn't the answer and who knows about Lynch. Lynch is a injury risk and he'll be gone soon anyway.

I would like to see us persue Davone Bess out of Hawaii as our WR pick if he declares. Mainly for 3 reasons:
1. Return man w/ freakish moves.
2. Good hands from what I've heard and seen (limited of both).
3. Physical which usually means that he is unafraid to block downfield.

I agree with much of what your saying except for the whole needing OL more than a DT. Our offensive line has been squarely average to above-average even with injuries while our interior defensive line has been terrible most of the season.

I like it a lot. However, I personally am a huge fan of LSU safety Craig Steltz and would take him over any safety in the draft except Phillips. So he'd be my 2b pick. Nice mock nonetheless though.

I don't know anything about Sopoaga, sounds like a good sleeper, but he doesn't start on a bad defense....So ignoring DT's in the draft just because he is signed doesn't make sense, that is the reason why the DE position has been a problem for years.

So I like the Okam/Bryant prediction, indy, I also really like the Hillis and Hills picks......

I actually love the Peyton Hillis pick....How many FB's in the NFL can split wide and run actual routes? That's a pretty good weapon for a team that uses the shotgun as much as the Broncos have to, they could really spread the field......

I would rather have Jacob Hester. Would be able to pick him up in the late 5th. More of a luxury pick than a need and those are always good in later rounds than wasting a pick when you still have needs.
