The Detroit Lions announced Thursday, March 13, that the team released RB Kevin Jones.

I wander if he is worth taking a chance on, can't be any worse than Henry, imo :coffee:

Might be a worthwhile addition if he comes cheap. He's been injury prone though.

I sure in the hell hope not, right now if this Robertson deal (rumor) comes to be we could be looking at an offensive heavy draft, with special teams tied in. I would rather risk it all on a late round pick then another crap-shoot player. But this should have teams worried, this could be a sign that Detroit will be looking to take a top shelf back in the draft, that means that the Bears and Lions will both be looking our way come the draft and what we do will have great importance on the draft. We can not say that often...lol.

Yea he can be worse than Henry.

He's never had a full 16 game season, and with the exception of his rookie year, he can't even average 4.0 ypc.

I agree...if your assumptions are correct we could bleed another team looking to move up in the draft dry! It's always nice to be in the driver seat! :D

Lancane - On a related note (RB's) what are your thoughts on how far Stewart might fall (assmuing he has surgery on his toe)? I know your a Mendenhall fan but if we could get Stewart with a later pick (i.e. 2nd or 3rd) would that change your mind...would you pull the trigger?

Thx,
Joe

This is true but what running not named Barry Sanders has ever done good in Detroit?

A beast when he's healthy

Well we seem to be liking Detroit players a lot lately so why not. Hell, get Roy Williams while you're at it and call it a day.

The key really is...good when healthy. Id even say great when healthy.
But he needs to stay healthy for it to be a worth while signing.
Oh ya...healthy.
Just had to say it again.

There are two Kevin Jones.
One the guy that puts on the uniform in Detroit and gets hurt.
Then there is the second Kevin Jone, the one who put on a Virginia Tech uniform and crushed everyone in his path.
I love the man and have always wished him the best.
But I faced what he is gotta face about him.
He is just a injury plagued player and he is better in college then the pros.
So KJ, but it maybe time to hang up the spikes man.

His ability to produce when he's healthy doesn't concern me.

The fact that he rarely is, and plays through injury that affects his play does.

He's a tough kid, but if Denver's going to sign another RB I would rather it be fresh legs from the draft.

Just MHO.

I definately wouldn't mind him. He's one of my favorite players in the league and he'd be worth a shot for some team.

LOL, looks like we have the cards in our hands now. We hold the cards to the next two top RB's and could really milk it.

I wouldn't mind picking up Kevin Jones if he's willing to come cheap. He's still young and has room for improvement.

Why the hell would we waste 5million dollars on ANOTHER freaking RB?!???!?!?!?!??

Travis Henry is one of the Top 7 RB's in the NFL when healthy.

Selvin Young has proven he has great talent.

Andre Hall showed that he can step in as a good back-up running back.

Signing Kevin Jones would only cause problems in Denver's backfield. If we were going to sign ANY RB this offseason, I would say draft Jamaal Charles in the 2nd round, he is insane speed and cuts on him.

Okay, Henry is almost never healthy and even when healthy. He's not a top 7 RB in the league, probably a top 15. Selvin has talent, but is better as a change of pace back. Hall is the same as Selvin. I wouldn't sign Jones right now, I'd wait til after the draft and if he's still available and we didn't get any RB. Then he might be worth a look for a cheap contract.

As far as Charles goes, he's not worth the 2nd round considering he's got fumble problems and couldn't beat out Romance Taylor and Selvin Young his Sopohmore season. If anything, the only RB's Denver should be considering are Mendenhall, John Stewart and Kevin Smith.

Mendenhall is too overrated and will be gone by the 2nd round (denver wont take him at #12)

John Stewart is a hit or miss kind of runner I think...He just had that surgery, and surgeries are always something to be worried about. Grant it, if he's there in the 2nd round, we should take him without a doubt.

Jamaal Charles is actually an overall elite runner except for that fumbling that you stated. Ya, I remember the OU game when he fumbled ON THE GOAL LINE!!!!!

But Charles has more high moments than his lows. He has incredible breakaway speed and is a swifty back who can bust through tackles.

He is an animal when helathy and he'd be great on any team...

I think maybe Dallas picks em up to back up Barber so they dont have to give up too much and try and get McFadden.

Also this means Detroit is taking Mendenhall.

I hope that is a joke or your from Texas... :coffee:

Jamal Charles elite runner? I think he could be taken down as easy as Reggie Bush only he doesnt have half the moves that Bush has. He can bust anything but his teeth if he trys to run through a tackle.

I say we grab him. He would be great in our system. Ofcourse he would have to clear a medical exam.
