worth a shot in denver if he comes cheap what do you guys think? we all like alchohol right? with alittle help i think he would be worth it to compete with the other guys.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)—The Green Bay Packers released Koren Robinson on Friday, the latest setback for the veteran wide receiver trying to resurrect his career after serving an NFL suspension and jail time.
Not long after Green Bay signed the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Robinson in 2006, the league suspended him for a year for alcohol-related problems.
He sought treatment that included attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and taking a drug that would make him sick if he drank alcohol again.
When he was reinstated to the league he appeared to have put his troubles behind him. Teammates said they were impressed by his work ethic and his obvious efforts to stay clean.
The 28-year-old Robinson also won the support of Brett Favre, who has acknowledged his own history of substance abuse. In a public plea to league officials on behalf of Robinson in 2007, Favre suggested Robinson’s comeback could help the league move past the negative publicity from other players’ legal problems.
“I think he’s done everything he’s been asked to do, and it’s time to set a good example—that you can resurrect not only your career, but your life,” Favre said at that time.
The Packers gave him an opportunity, and he responded with 21 catches for 241 yards and one touchdown in nine games last season. He was also second on the team with 25 kickoff returns for 596 yards.
Robinson previously played four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and one with the Minnesota Vikings.
He was suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy in 2004 and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in 2005. He also led police on an alcohol-fueled high-speed car chase in Minnesota in 2006, which resulted in jail time and prompted the Vikings to cut him.
Messages left on Robinson’s cell phone and with his agent, Alvin Keels, were not immediately returned.

see i think this is a great idea, here me out.... the chargers need a wr. we'll sign robinson faster then they can. then we can trade robinson to the chargers for tomlenson and next years first. with the chargers first we can draft a young wr in next years draft to compliment marshall.... the only downfall of all this is if we trade robinson to the chargers, the chargers will win the superbowl. robinson is to much of a gamechanger to just back off of:coffee:
Let's get him...
Seriously, we signed Samie Parker, at least Robinson's a seasoned Kick Returner. With a 1,200 yard season under his belt as a Receiver, not to mention a 1,200 yard season as a Kick Returner...
He could fight for the 3rd Receiver position and definitely win the 4th Receiver position.
A Marshall/Jackson/Stokley/Robinson/Royal treatment is a threatening one to anyone. When the worst Receiver in your first 4 Receivers on the depth chart is Koren Robinson, you're not that bad off.
Naysayers- No, we're much better off with Glen Martinez when Stokley blows out his achilles again around game 6.

I agree...even though Koren Robinson is not the same player he was in Seattle. If we can sign him dirt cheap why not? We don't need to retain him if he sucks it up in camp...however if he is serious about resurrecting his career I would assume he would try hard and I think he is better than Sammie Parker (no disrepect to Parker)
Thx,
Joe

Man I have to disagree on this one whole hearted. The logic to the argument the both of you provided is we should not sign another WR (based simply on the fact that we have a lot of WR's on the team) right? In other words as as a team should disregard the fact that Koren Robinson is better than many of the names on that list?
I thought it was common knowledge that you take the best players available...now if you want argue that we should not sign Koren because of character issues that's another story. However you did not argue that which is why I disagree.
Here is the list of WR's based on position they are going to be at or fighting for...
WR#1 = Marshall, Brandon
WR#2 = Jackson, Darrell, Colbert, Keary, or Parker, Samie
WR#3 (Slot) = Stokley, Brandon, with Royal, Eddie as backup
WR#4 = Jackson, Darrell, Colbert, Keary, or Parker, Samie
Player fighting for roster spots = Jacobs, Taylor, Martinez, Glenn, McDaniel, Marquay, Russell, Clifford, Sam, Lorne, & Shepherd, Edell.
You can't tell me that Koren Robinson is not better than 1 if not all the players listed under fighting for roster spots, this is why I say if we get him cheap we should sign him. The only reason to not do it is because of his character issues, still think he is better than Sammie Parker who will be fighing for one of the 4 spots or possibly 5 spots we will have.
Thx,
Joe

To me, it does not matter if he is better if he can't even keep clean. He's done nothing since leaving the Vikings, he's pretty washed up considering he couldn't beat out 2 rookies in 2 years while in Green Bay.

Uhhh...'Cause a lot of these guys are kinda nobodies, and I bet Robinson could beat most of them, providing greater DEPTH at the position...You never heard of competition in camp? Leading to cuts? Pretty simple math guys.
Sounds like he's serious about keeping clean. I wouldn't be opposed to having Shanny talk to him.
I'm sick of these threads though.

I wonder why the Packers released him if he was doing well and returning to form. He's still young, so it makes me wonder if his physical tools have nothing to do with it. They aren't exactly deep at wideout, and they weren't paying him very much. It seems strange to me.
Whether or not to bring him here, I guess that is debatable. I do however think that your comment about everyone liking alcohol was distasteful. Maybe it was a failed attempt at humor. Either way, substance abuse is not funny.

Sorry you feel that way man. It's true that people can be pretty brutal on these boards. I actually thought it was a good question, I just didn't like your comment about alcohol consumption, as noted in my post. Don't let the people get to you.:)

I believe the draft clearly demonstrates a new direction with the team. No more character issues! Shanny has given plenty of opportunities in the past, and I think Bowlen and him are honestly tired of dealing with the problems. Koren Robinson will not be a Bronco. :salute:

Much better fit.....
ESPN's John Clayton suggests that free agent Koren Robinson could land with the Raiders.
Clayton says Robinson, who was released Friday, hasn't heard much yet. But Oakland could use him on returns after losing Chris Carr and owner Al Davis loves him some former first-round picks. Robinson is reportedly also "monitoring what's going on in Kansas City," where he'd be a fantastic fit.

The 'NO!!!!!!!!'s are a little bit too strong. I recall the NO!!!!!!!!!s when Stokley came. It was 1 million 1 year and people were acting like it was going to be the worst thing in Bronco's history. Stokely could've turned out worthless and been cut, and you know what, it wouldn't of been a big deal. 1 roster spot for a bit, 1 mill in salary cap hit, for a player of that potential, 1000+yds in a season as the 3rd man, a big game history. Why not? He fails, so what, he was worth the shot and you move on and you easily moved on cause the shot didn't cost you hardly anything.
I do however agree with the No's, we have already brought in a lot of WR that we plan on cutting. No need to add another to the mix. Earlier this year I would've approved, before drafting Royal and before picking up Jackson, Hamilton, Colbert, etc.... Now its a we've already brought in too many WRs that some will have to be camp fodder.

I don't believe this had anything to do with Stokley's character issues. This situation is different. Stokley has never had any off field issues.

Good post, I say why not? Like I said, does anyone remember last year, Walker went down, Stokley went down and we were left with just Marshall and whoever else knew Denver's plays.
People are excited about Keary Colbert and don't think we should sign Koren Robinson?
