I was looking at the title of an article today and it used the word "Imposter", which I thought was wrong, but then I googled it and it is used often. Crazy enough, I also looked at the word "Impostor", which I thought that it was the correct spelling and also found that the word was used often

So my question is, which one is right? Impostor or Imposter? are they both used differently?(although I would believe they mean the same) Is one of the words an impostor/imposter? Looking for feedback

Yeah, it's the same either way. Depends on preference I guess. I personally feel the "er" is highly used, neigh, OVERused.

Both are correct. ER is carried over from the French word for imposter. OR is more identical to its original latin word.

both spellings are correct. Impostor can be spelled with an 'er,' just like potato can also be spelled, 'potatoe.'

Because dropping a safe on you would probably be fatal.

Mmmmm no?

Remember Quayle?

I never seen a dictionary that speeled it with an "e"

I just looked in 4 (one of them online) there was no entry. for more than 1 potato it ends in "es"

I've never seen a dictionary with the word 'speeled' in it either!

but yeah, I should have known what I was talking about BEFORE I posted.

although after a little searching, I did find out that both spellings USED to be correct:

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potato_(word)):

Spelling
The singular spelling variants "potato" vs. "potatoe" co-existed into the 19th century. In the 20th century "potato" came to be considered the correct singular, and "potatoe" considered a misspelling. The plural remains "potatoes'".
