We are not gennerating any pass rush from the inside. i see where we are pushing QB's up in the pocket but the guys in the middle are not penetrating and getting the sacks. As much as it angers me that Moss and Crowder is not producing. We cannot wait any longer, this is one area that is killing this team.

DLine is a high priority

I would love to be able to spend a first rounder on a RB and round out our O

MLB. Nate Webster is serviceable with a good front line in front of him and he is showing it with the upgrade and progression of our tackles.

Safety, im dissapointed Josh Barrett. Dude couldnt make it even over the scrubbs we had.

i think we should spend big time money on a defensive end. were gonna pay through the nose though for one

i think personally we need to draft a DE around rd 3 for development. Trade moss to a 3-4 team for a draft pick and suck it up, then pay some cash for a high top end DE. thne we can focus on MLB and saefty or RB in the first 2 rds if need be. I dont think DT is a need, but it wouldnt be a bad pick after rd 2, also CB should be looked at. Jack williams is inching very closely to a spot on the field. and if that happens paymah may walk in FA. so depth would need to be addressed.

im down thought i say lets go get a top de

I aggree. Julias can play the left side. Terrel suggs cant. and we already have doom. We are getting the outside pressure. which is helping push the QB's up in the pocket. the Tackle s just arent penetrating and geting in the QBs face. i think both our guys are playing fairly decent in the run game but they have NO rush skills. i guess were gonna have to wait it out

brinkley could be a sweet pick-up and patric chung could move up the boards with a good season, nic harris is under the radar right now....so thats good.

beckwith??? isnt he a smaller 3-4 ILB? if i remeber correctly he has a very hard time sheddding blocks in our scheme we would be best suited with a very powerful big MLB.....

i think the top 5 for me( that we would have a chance at) would be

1. Brandon Spikes
2. Scott Mckillop:D
3. Daniel Holtclaw
4. Jasper Brinkley
5. Josh Maugua

Kick coverage has hurt us a bit...I would also say some better depth at corner and safety wouldn't hurt...

i don't think we should or will draft a DT, SLB, or CB in the first round. SLB maybe in the second and DT maybe third, but imo they are far from our most pressing needs. and i think that bly and bailey are serviceable for another 2 years and hopefully williams can be a solid starter by then. i don't think we need to focus on another star corner just quite yet.

I wouldn't mind seeing us pick up a safety or CB in round 2, I think we can get by on SLB for at least the next year, maybe use a late round pick on an OLB. I see MLB/D-Line our biggest needs.

we need a penitrating DT, they need to give Moss some play time I still hold out that he can come in and step up.

Right now I see us needing a DT/DE, S, MLB. a RB can go up to 2010 because our passing offense is good enough to make the hacks we have good enough to play.

Our Biggest needs as of right now:
1. Saftey, doesn't matter which side. Just one who is athletic enough to move around the field and also deliver hits. Taylor Mays is the ideal guy for this pick.

2. MLB, Nate Webster and Niko haven't done much. Nate has looked alright, but he isn't very good at closing gaps and making sure the runner doesn't get pass by him. Not to mention he is terrible in pass coverage and both LB's can't really tackle.

3. RB, Young and Hall looks okay. But they aren't dominating games like how Denver used to. I think it's evident that Mike is choosing not to run as much because he trusts his QB more than he does his RB's.

4. DT, We need a guy who can just get pressure on the QB from the inside. Robertson and Thomas are both known for that. But they haven't showen it.

5. DE, we need pressure from the outside. What else is new in Denver.:coffee:

we need safeties. we might have the worst tandem in the league. hopefully barrett develops well on the practice squad...

I agree with Elevation. Grab a top safety in Round 1 such as Nic Harris or Patrick Chung and grab MLB in second like Jasper Brinkley or Darry Beckwith.

Jasper Brinkley is reported to be about 275 lbs. and is more of a 3-4 prospect. while he is quick i dotn think he is fast enough for this system.

At this point i dont like Chung in the first

Nic Harris might have to play LB in the pros he runs a 4.6 and at this point i am reading that he is probably dropping his stock just a bit and more o a late 2nd round pick

Ravage!!!

Well.. it all comes down to getting the best VALUE for the pick we have... So I can't really say now what we SHOULD pick in the first round, until we know where we are in the draft.

But if I was going to go by NEED..... MLB, DE, safety, DE (I would have put RB here, but since we haven't seen Torrain run, and Shanahan has had nothing but GOOD things to say about the kid, I think that will be put off unless Torrain just completely falls on his face).

But a stud MLB would completely change the looks of this defense. A MLB would have a MUCH bigger impact than a safety, and a MLB is a much SAFER pick. Which considering how fast EVERYONE is about calling a player a bust, it needs to be a safe pick

This system is best with a LB that is run sideline to sideline. cover,it really does not matter how big or small he is but he has to be able to run. so techincally anyone with those traits can play the position other wise were just getting another Nate Webster. or Niko. Any linebacker has to be able to shed blocks no matter the system.

Nic Harris is under no radar. He was projected as a first to early second rounder last year if he would have come out.

Chung just doesnt thrill me as a prospect.

i agree with the system for lb's but they still need to be able to shed blocks and smaller guys sometimes have a problem with that in a 4-3. in fact even webster showed this a little last game. this is what i was getting at. they guys i want can run sideline to sideline, but they are also big enough that shedding blocks is a skill for them not a hinderance

i think harris is under the radar we know where he stood last year, but because of oklahomas offense the d is very rarely talked about that is what i was getting at by under the radar.

and chung isnt bad but overall i dont think he is what we need.

Obviously the coaches feel he is a great talent. Torains stock lowered in the draft due to his in-ability to not stay healthy. I am all for giving him a chance but i just dont know if i could depend on him Ijuries and all.

At this point Denvers problem as i see it is. We have players that we have alot invested in and are not producing. or players that we dont have alot invested in that are really good at one thing but it is hard to replace them. John E, Andrea H.

The Dline is getting man handled. Elvis D is bad agasint the run. but man he gets to the QB or John E who is the exact opposite. we need players that are more well rounded.

Its hard to say and go get a DE when we have a couple second year guys who could or could not explode. If it was up to me i would go through FA and try to make J peppers a priority. and Trade Jarvis.

And take a MLB i am not horribly impressed with the guys that fall after Rey and James. but man its hard to ignore the safety position this year as it is STACKED

No matter the scheme Linebackers are asked to shed blocks. In a 3-4 the Offensive Gaurd Fires off and attacks the ILB. Compared to a 4-3 where where a tackle usually is the one takeing on the G usually the NT in a 4-3 is doubled down by the center. and the linebacker has more space to make plays. So obviiously a guy that is horrible at shedding blocks and smaller do not fare well iin a 3-4 scheme this is areas where he has to Excell at where as a MLB has to run sideline 2 sideline and be able to drop back in pass coverage. Jasper does not fit the scheme.

I dont get your logic when it comes to under the radar. when i think of under the radar i think of a guy that is rated as a late round prospect who had middle of the road numbers. that blows up and his stock

When people started looking at production and tape of safties this year they were all to aware of Nic Harris.

Isn't 2009 offseason where lotta dead money is off the books? IIRC it is and that would leave quite a bit of money to throw at J. Peppers/A. Haynesworth/J Vilma.

At least one of those Denver will throw a ton of money at. The only FA safety I see or really would want is Mike Brown. Injury concerns yes, but when he is healthy it seems Chicago's defense is infinite times better.

Unfortunately, it seems Denvers D woes has not changed one bit from last year, they are still weak right up the gut.

Nic Harris is under the radar right now because OU hasn't played anyone. That changes next week with Baylor and their phenom frosh and then they play Texas and Kansas. That 3 game stretch will make or break him. OU also plays Texas Tech at the end of the year.

Jasper Brinkley will be a stud no matter what D the Ol Ball Coach puts him in. South Carolinas D was nasty till he got hurt last year and they are again nasty this year. He is a stud that goes sideline to sideline.

I dont see Denver able to get Mays or Moore. don't see Maualuga or Spikes dropping down far enough either, which leaves Laurinaitis and Brinkley or Harris and Chung. Things will change it is still early but those are my thoughts.

our offense is on fire!! but honestly our defense needs some work. the D-line needs improvement along with another safety. Maybe Denver needs another Defensive coordinator but its too early to tell. i think denver should make some under the radar trades to get some late round sleepers in the upcoming draft. Or just simply spend the first few draft picks on defense defense defense. Does anyone know of some good upcoming free agents?? thats another way to go.

GO DENVER!!

We have 4 weeks left until the trading deadline. We can't wait for the draft, let alone wait for said draftees to develop (assuming they would).

We have a GOD-AWFULLY HORRIBLE Defense. We have a great secondary with Bly, Bailey and McCree, but those three guys are useless if we can't create a pass-rush or stop the run.

If we have no D-Line to hurry QB throws into Bly or Bailey's hands, then there's no point.

We need to find even one good or decent guy to trade for to bulk up and clog up the lanes a bit.

If we don't fix our defense problem, it won't matter if The Trinity and Co. put up 60 points a game. Our opponents don't seem to have any trouble answering right back.

Sure we look good against shoddy horrible teams like Oakland, but we got embarrassed Sunday and squeeked out with a win. We can't play New England like that and expect to win, sans Brady or not. And we better shape it up on that side of the ball when we visit SD or they're going to disgrace us.

I don't want to make it all the way to the playoffs and get disappointed again the same way I was during our last three visits. All three of those (the two Colts losses and the AFCCG) were lost on the defensive side of the ball...

And let's say we do make the Super Bowl. If New York repeats, we'll have a heck of a time. Their defense is stout. They shut down the "mighty" undefeated Patri*ts... And if our offense gets shut down we're done because there's no way our defense will be able to do the same to the other team's offense.

*whew*

anyway.. yeah. we need some freaking D-linemen. NOW.

I agree we won't draft a DT in the first. If we had a fearsome DE or two the DT would be making more plays but the only DE that ever needs double teaming at all is Dumervil and then only on passing downs. I'm looking forward to seeing Moss play this week...heres to seeing a breakout game!

So much for a breakout game from Moss. I am officially joining the bandwagon for DE in 2009 draft #1 pick unless we can get a stud DE in FA.

uuuum, lets see. We're dead last in passing yards so I think we need a coverage Safety. It probably won't be long before Jack Williams moves to the nickel is Paymah keeps getting abused.

After S, we need MLB. Webster is decent, but ever since Al Wilson left our defense has sucked. We need another top notch MLB to go with DJ.

DE seems to be a need right now, but I dont think it will be. dumervil will eventually show up and we are still waiting on Moss to develope, which hopefully he does sometime soon.

Out Defense right now is pretty much the same as the Colts was a couple of years ago. They depended on getting an early lead and forcing their opponents to pass, which played into the hands of Dwight Freeney and their other DEs. Once the Colts found Bob Sanders their D got a lot better and they won the Super bowl. I think the same could happen here.

Ok, before I have a coronary every week, I think we need to draft all defense AND either make a trade or sign a big name player. Recently, I watched the Eagles sack Big Ben 9 times with basically a no name defense. Is it at all possible that Shanny can put his ego aside for the best of the team? We may very well have to trade, sign FA, and go after a big name DCoord like Jim Johnson or Ravens guy (forget his name). If Jim Johnson can do it with average guys, doesn't he have something in common with Mike Shannahan?

BTW-The chargers looked very powerful in aspects on MNF and they always start slow, then run off 10 straight

I would love to see someone of Jim Johnson's quality roaming the Broncos' sidelines I just hope shanny's ego doesn't get in the way.
