Gobble, gobble...
1.) (15) FS Taylor Mays-USC 6'3"-228
I am hoping he can't resist the $$$, and declares. I would take William Moore here as an alternative if Mays is not available or stays at USC. Mays is going to be the better Pro, IMO, so he is the choice, as images of Dennis Smith flash through my mind...maybe he should wear #49 too...
second string: S William Moore, Missouri, MLB Brandon Spikes, Florida
2.) RB James Davis-Clemson 5'11"-215
Tough, between the tackles runner that runs bigger than his size. Durable. A very good selection in the second round; will be gone by the third. Has more versatility than players like Shonn Greene, and is truly reminiscent of Terrell Davis in some ways. Lofty praise, and he has to prove he can reach the same heights TD did, but he is definitely cut from the same cloth. Love this kid as a pro tailback. He is made for the NFL game.
second string: RB Shonn Greene, Iowa, S Michael Hamlin, Clemson
3.) WR Jordan Shipley-Texas. 6'0"-195
Perfect add-on to the offense, gives the Broncos a slot receiver to fill Stokley's shoes, and in the meantime is an effective kick returner. Just a smart, heady player, in the Stokley, Wes Welker, Greg Camarillo mold. These kind of guys are invaluable to a football team, as they can help you in multiple ways.
second string: DE Kyle Moore, USC, WR Manuel Johnson, OKlahoma
4.) SS Kevin Ellison-USC 6'1"-230
I simply draft the USC safeties, and plug them in as starters. They are hands down the best pair in the country, having been beat deep ONLY ONCE this entire season. Read the lastest issue of ESPN the Magazine's article on them; it's great stuff. Ellison is the perfect player to compete with Josh Barrett, and Mays starts from Day One. If you draft the pair, you also get the chemistry they have from playing together.
second string: OLB Morty Ivy, West Virginia
5.) a (From Sea) I have read that this pick will be the compensation for
the Keary Colbert trade, so I am going on that assumption.
DT George Hypolite, Colorado 6'0 1/2" -293.
I think George is going to slip a bit from the season Colorado has had...but Seattle will select early in the fifth.
5.) RB Gartrell Johnson-Colorado St 6'0"-232
Enough of the problem's at RB. Johnson fits the general mold of mid-round RB's that have succeeded in the NFL. A muscular, physical runner, and when paired with Davis would give us incredible depth, and we need that as much as anything.
6.) This pick will most likely be sent to the NY Jets to complete the trade for DT Dewayne Robertson.
7.) (From ATL/Foxworth trade) CB Deandre Wright-New Mexico 5'11"-193
Maybe he can conjur up images of another Bronco CB named Wright...
7.) DT Brandon Nicolas, Colorado 6'3"-298.
A lunch-pail type that will give you everything he has. Could suprise and make the team.
Fire away.

Its Nicolas. Just sayin'. Very good player, not gonna overpower anyone but reads the run well and is a solid tackler. Rarely takes double teams due to Hypolite at the other DT position.
Anyway, I love the Taylor Mays pick, especially over Moore. Dude has freakish size that reminds me of Atwater.
Would James Davis fit the vaunted Denver Bronco "system"?

I wouldnt be surprised if Mays is a bust.
But the draft does adress Denvers needs.

i thought we only give up a pick to the jets if robertson plays 65% of the defensive snaps...he's nowhere near that...can someone clear this up for me?

Hmmmm...you don't like Spikes and now you don't like Mays.
That's two fairly talented football players right there.

Hypolite is having a decent season but I think he will be way to small to play DT very well in the NFL. He would have to bulk up quite a bit, sme sites have him listed at 285. Dorrell Scott, 6'3" 310 out of Clemson may still be available in the 5th and would be a much better choice here.
Don't know anything about college football so I'm not going to comment on the players themselves. But I know that we need a MLB a lot more than we need a RB. Any good MLB in the 2nd round after we select Mays/Moore?
Max Power

I think instead of Gartrell Johnson, take a C or a G. That is usually the area we take one, and drafting 2 RB's is unnecessary. Davis in round 2 is sufficient along with what we already have.
I like the Mays and Ellison picks the most, they work very well together and could most definitely step in and start from day 1 as you said. They are both big safeties who can bring the intimidation factor missing in the 2ndary since John Lynch left town. I've read that USC's defense has only allowed 1 pass play of over 30 yards all season, which is extraordinary.
solid draft overall, though the picks besides the Mays and Ellison ones are just "meh" for me.

At saftey yes.
And I like Rolle more than Mays because Mays has done nothing on the field to
earn his hype. The guy plays centerfield on the nations best defense... How
am I supposed to get excited over a guy that has nothing on the field? If Rolle
goes to Oxford and Moore is gone then yes Mays would be an option, but if
Rolle and Moore are their I'd take them over Mays easily.
Spikes, on the other hand, does actually play well. I just don't think he is the top
ILB prospect. I still think James and Maualuga are better than him as NFL prospects.
And sticking at LB, I think Currey is the best LB prospect coming out.
I want Rolle to take his Rhodes Scholarship because then I may end up playing alongside him :P

We have a history with Ohio St LB's too...
We should have taken Chris Speilman back in the day, and of course, we all know Randy Gradishar should be in the Hall of Fame.
Still, I take Spikes over Laurinaitis in this case. I just think you error on the side of athleticism and speed.
There is no way in hell I would take Myron Rolle over Taylor Mays. To me, that is just crazy talk.
You complain that you never see Mays do much, but, isnt that the point?
USC has given up exactly one pass over 30 yards all season, that means Mays is more than doing his job in pass coverage.
I just think teams straight up do everything they can to stay away from him.
But hey, you are on record as what you think is better than Mays and Spikes, so we shall see.

USC defense has given up only 1 pass play over 30 yards huh?
One side of the coin you say it could be stellar play by Mays and the defense. On the other side of the coin I say it could be that USC has played against piss poor teams with even worse QB's that can't even throw the ball 30 yards down field........

Well, they did beat the #10 team in the country in Ohio St, so I don't think that qualifies as nobody.

I don't know, that true fresman has done failry well since....against everyone basically except USC.
So what are you suggesting?
Taylor Mays can't play?

I'd be ok with Mays, there is some real upside there. I still don't think he comes out though.
There is alot of talk about the "rookie salary cap" that will likely be in place after next draft, but the reality is that it will really only effect the top 10 or so players in the draft, maybe the top 6.
It won't impact Mays, so I think he keeps the USC tradition, and stays in school. I expect his chances of coming out are 20%.
Anyway, the players whom really may be tempted to come out are those super elite juniors and red shirt sophomores. Players like OT Andre Smith, WR Michael Crabtree, QBs Matt Stafford, Sam Bradford, and maybe even Tim Tebow. If Mays can be mentioned in that same light with those players, then him too, but right now he's not. And if he ever does, then we won't be able to draft him anyway.
On a side note, Mindfield, I'm finishing up a camplete 3 Round Mock Draft, 96 selections, and I did go RB in the 2nd Round with Denver as well, but I went with Javon Ringer. I think he's far and away a better player then James Davis. Did you come to a contrary analysis, or do you believe Ringer will be off the board?

Penn St?
That is the point, if you watch USC you don't see Mays play because either
the defense as a whole is too good to let one player stand out or because he
is actually just overhyped.

I think Ringer is a college RB. At 5'9" about 200, I don't think he will be more than a third down back in the NFL.
Davis was hurt this year becuase of the coaching change at Clemson, and the assistant that took over, that Dabo guy, completely sucked. He tried to run more spread offense sets, and stopped giving Davis the ball.
James Davis is going to reclaim some of his lost ground in offseason workouts. He was once considered a first round lock by most sources, and has slipped frpom there...but a 5'11'-215lb back that can run a sub-4.5 can and will play in the NFL.
I am not a big Ringer fan as a starting tailback, and would prefer Davis, but that's just my opinion.

Not just that, Davis was hurt because Bowden convinced him to forgo the draft next year and come back this year. Only for Bowden to jump ship like he did.
