View Full Version : The Music Thread.

Well it's late and I can't sleep. I have been thinking about this for a while now, we need a music thread akin to Keith's movie thread. We have The song title game and there used to be a What are you listening to right now thread, but we need an ongoing music appreciation thread. There should be no smacking or making fun of someone's musical tastes, just honest adult conversation regarding music.
For as much emotion as can be packed into a 2 hour long movie, skilled songwriters and musicians can put just as much into a 3 minute long song. In my opinion music is the greatest art-form there is for this reason. If you have lived at all, then there are at least a handful of songs that will bring you back to another time and place. I don't know of anything else in the world that can do that.
To this day if I hear Holes in the Floor of Heaven I cry like a baby because that is what they played at my Moms funeral. Daddy's hands does the same thing to me because that is what was played at my Grandpa's funeral. These songs don't necisarily make me sad, but they bring every memory, good or bad, about those two people flooding back into my conscience whenever I hear them. I watched numerous movies, and looked at many pictures with both those people but it is only music or conversation that makes me that emotional about them.
I can't hear Ridin Dirty without falling more in love with my wife. Let me explain, my wife for some unknown reason loves that song. I think it is the almost comical stereotypeness(I know that isn't a word) of the song that she loves. Every time she hears that song she sings along with it at perfect tempo, and never misses a single word. I just watch and laugh as this small town white librarian girl sings along to gangster rap, and it just makes me fall more and more in love with her every time.
I was heavily into Johnny Cash when my son was born, still am really, but at that time it was almost an obsession. Well as I was driving home one day after picking him up from day-care, Get Rhythm came on and my son started freaking out in his car seat. He was literally getting rhythm for the first time to the beat of Get Rhythm. I will never hear that song and be sad, it is impossible.
I bought Iron Man the movie at Wal-Mart and it came with a free "bonus" disc, on the disc was an episode of an upcoming cartoon series. Well my daughter who is two and a half loves that cartoon(I think you two would get along great Razor) and because of that I decided I would see if she liked Iron Man the song. To make a long story short, my daughter in the gruffest lowest voice possible for a two year old girl to make, walks around my house constantly saying "I am Iron Man" For the rest of my life now, if that song for some reason comes on in public I am going to start giggling and people are going to think I am insane.
My point in all of this is that I don't think any other art-form touches us on an emotional level the way music does. When I hear CCR I am instantly on a school bus traveling back from a wrestling tournament, I can vividly remember the sights and sounds of those times because of the music. When I hear the Violent Femmes I can remember making out with my first serious girlfriend in the back of my Ford Escort, and I remember the heartbreak she left me with, and I am thankful for both memories.
I love music, I hope we can keep a serious music appreciation thread going.
I am sorry for my long ramblings, but like I said I can't sleep. My mind works overtime sometimes and I need a place to spew it's contents, I think I found it. Thanks

Pre game music for me will always start and stop with AC/DC, that is all our coach would allow in the locker room in HS.

Man, your coach was cool. My high school coach relegated all of our music in the locker room to headphones, and Holtz always blared the team we were playing that week's fight song.
I remember when we had to go play Tennessee, it was after a bye, so we heard Rocky Top for 13 days straight. In the locker room, in the weight room, in the trainers room.
...but it worked. We weren't phased by the stadium noise. We WERE however phased by UT whipping the piss out of us. :(

You played for the Irish? Cool man. I don't get coaches who won't let the guys listen to some rock before a game. I also don't get listening to rap before a game, generational gap I guess. I am 32 so Rap was just getting popular when I was growing up. Now it is everywhere.

I'm 27, and it might just be where you grew up, maybe?
I went to Odessa High School, and Raprock was the staple for that area when it came to getting down. i.e. Linkin Park, Kid Rock (Cowboy was another song on the old walkman that used to pump me up) etc. etc.
My Dad is where I draw my ecclesiastic tastes from. I learned to appreciate everything from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young to Neil Diamond to Charlie Pride (you dont have to call me darlin....darlin!)

If I was a coach i would play slayer's "reign in blood" and metallica's "ride the lightning" on full blast before a game.
If those 2 albums can't pump you up and make you want to kill something, nothing will.

Well here goes, I started this so I will try to get the ball rolling.
This will be sort of a song of the day kind of thing with a little bit of a review.
The song is Worn Out Shoe by The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. Here is a link for your enjoyment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aCci4c5GNw
EDIT:I just found a cool video of Peyton Playing thee guitar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMMbFQ3K0Vc&feature=related
I will warn you, this band is not for everyone, but if you like offbeat eclectic stuff, I think you will really enjoy these guys. They may not be the kind of band that you will listen to all the time, but I guarantee that when you do, your feet will be-a-tappin. Their albums are fun and very well done, but where this band excels is in their live performances. If you watch the links I provide you will understand. This is a three piece band, and one of them plays the washboard. How effing cool is that?
Like I said these guys may not be for everyone. I would describe their music as Bluegrass-Hillbilly-Punk-Funk-Blues. I would give the band a 6.5/10(again stealing from the movie thread) for their album work, but a definite 9/10 for their live shows. I saw them in Vegas(they opened for Flogging Molly) and they stole the show. If they are playing in a town near you, run do not walk but run to the box office and buy a ticket. It will be a show you will never forget.
Other recommended songs by this artist
Plainfield Blues
Worryin' Kind
Mammas Fried Potatoes
and their versions of Glory Glory Hallelujah and Amazing Grace
all of these songs are available through I-Tunes and I assume Napster has them as well.:rockon:

I'll have to think on it.
I love sooooo many bands and have had such a crazy life.
Something I am enjoying these days is learning about bands/singers I listened to for years but didn't really know much about.
For example back in the day I knew EVERYTHING about the Beatles. (Beatlemaniac)
Not saying I need to know everything about them, just interesting to read biographies and histories.
Besides,,,, these days my memory only lasts so long.

Country is the best. Its my favorite genre and I love old stuff, new stuff, in between stuff.
Although I wouldn't call some of the new stuff country...country-rock really.
BUT. I like TONS of genres, something from almost all of them. I think people should be open minded about music. I really, really, don't like it when people refuse to listen to something because of the the genre. Give it a listen, you never know what you might like!

I've heard Joe Strummer before, my friends brother had him on a couple times when I was at her house. Cool sound he has.
I think I have a new favorite thread! (Ok...2nd favorite, my favorite can be found in the Other Sports section of this MB )
In one of the old itunes threads, some people posted their top played songs...might do that here if itunes will open for me. Sometimes its bratty. :(

This thread is just kind of anything Music. I want it to get stikyed(sp?)
I plan on doing a song of the day type of thing and put in my own little review of the band or album or whatever. You are all welcome to do the same thing. Discussions just like this with friends and co-workers have steered me towards some of the most beloved music in my life.

I like that idea! I know for a fact there are more people on this board who would like to read such things.
I would definitely do some reviews up...just not every day. Don't think I have the time, or memory to do that! And plus I tend to listen to the same music a lot. :D
I always tell my friends that if I was stuck on an eternal elevator and I could only pick three bands/groups/artists to listen to on repeat(all their songs and albums get played) they would be:
The Backstreet Boys. Yes I am 100% serious here. I get sooo much crap for this choice, but I can't deny that I have an undying love for them and their music. It started when I was in like 5th grade and has never left me. I bought their most recent CD and you wouldn't believe how great it is. They make great music that I enjoy. :D
The All American Rejects. Great band, they are becoming a bit more mainstream, but I think their music ROCKS! Their first CD is incredible...so unique and fun. They reinvent themselves a little bit each album but they maintain their same style. They are great. I can't wait for their new CD to be in my possession!
and last
Jason Aldean. This man is probably my favorite musical artist of all time. I love his voice, and love his songs. You can feel his emotions when he sings and you believe what he is singing about. He has a great range of sad songs, romantic songs and loud country-rock stuff. I am still wondering why he hasn't won any big awards in the country world and why he is still not a "superstar" because he is INCREDIBLE. *fangirl*

Yeah I don't know if I will do a review every single day, but I will try.
As far as your 3 favorite artists are concerned BSB I have honestly never listened to(not my style) but they have a ton of fans so they must be doing something right. As for The All American Rejects I have enjoyed everything of theirs that I have heard, and my wife loves them. All the people I work with are Country fans and they all love Aldean, now with your praise also I guess I am going to have to check it out.

My favorite AAR song. Their new stuff is still good, but I remember when I lived in a small midwest town called Danville, and I saw these two (there used to be two and a drum machine) at the VFW. True story.
Thrown in all directions
You epitome of perfection
She's lost her will
(She's lost her will)
Time is standing still
The way we are
The way we were
(It's just a shadow of what's wrong)
The time with you
The time is stirred
(I love you for so long)
The hearts they turn
They turn away
(She says to go, please don't you cry)
Love lost was found

If I was a coach i would play slayer's "reign in blood" and metallica's "ride the lightning" on full blast before a game.
If those 2 albums can't pump you up and make you want to kill something, nothing will.
Slayer would be cool to get players fired up. I would like to see Sepultura's Refuse/Resist before a game to get the crowd/players going.

Today's topic is one that is very near and dear for me. If anyone has payed very close attention to my posts on the song name thread, they would be able to see that my favorite kind of music is Irish Punk music. I love bands like Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, or the Mahones. My favorite band of all time is The Tossers, but I am going to write about the band that is widely regarded as the inventors of the genre.
First let me say that right off the bat I am going to give The Pogues a 9/10 for studio work and a can not give them a score for their live work because I unfortunately have never seen them live. With that said, I have heard and read many times that they are hit and miss because of legendary frontman Shane MacGowans stereotypical rock star bravado. Sometimes he shows up so drunk he can't remember the words to classic songs that he himself wrote, other times he shows up with just the right amount of alcohol induced vigor and puts on a rousing and entertaining show. I have seen them on the internet and read reviews of live shows quite a bit, but still not right to give them a score for live performances if I have never seen them.
A discussion of The Pogues must start and stop with MacGowan. Bob Dylan once called MacGowan "one of the greatest living song writers." When Bob Dylan, who is without peer where songwriting is concerned, heaps praise on someone about their songwriting prowess you have to pay attention.
MacGowan, has performed with the likes of Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, and Nick Cave. His voice is at times, incoherent(this is usually a direct result of too much Guinness) and at other times, absolutely perfect for the music he sings. His voice is gruff and always slurred, but the songs he sings would not sound right if sung by someone with a classically great voice, hell they would probably sound strange if sung by someone who was completely sober.
Well I could go on for hours on this particular subject so I am going to stop before I lose you all. I realize that this is a band that probably most of you are not going to like, but you should at least try it. You may just discover something strange and new, but also oddly enthralling. That is how I would describe this band, oddly enthralling. Once they get their hooks into you, you will just want to pop the top on a Guinness, rub a four leaf clover, and let the rousing sounds of their Irish themed punk wash over you. The more Guinness you drink the better you will like them.:rockon::rockon:
I will probably edit this post and add to it at a later date because I truly love this band, but I don't want to run anyone off so I will stop for now.
P.S. Cool fact about The Pogues, the original name for the band was Pogue Mahone which is Gaelic for "Kiss My Arse"

LarryDean inspired me to mention the live shows I've been to. Not many, but whatever. (Orange artist names are links to my favorite song by the artist...or at least one of them!! :D)
I went to my first concert the summer I was 16 with my then best friend at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Kenny Chesney. You can only imagine my excitement! Our seats were nosebleeders to say the least, but it was KENNY CHESNEY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFK6QOAVNbQ)so I could have cared less. Pat Green (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14IkH-Jvan0) was the opening act...he was GREAT live. I really enjoyed him...he is a good entertainer with a good voice. I think he is worth taking a look at if you haven't heard his stuff. Following Pat was Gretchen Wilson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8x8lxVLrCQ), who at the time I was a much bigger fan of. Now I can't stand her and find her incredibly annoying. Her performance wasn't that great, it really seemed to drag on...she did A LOT of stuff no one knew. So people were getting antsy and bored. And then Kenny FLEW IN from somewhere in the rafters and opened with Keg In the Closet which is another great song. But yeah...obviously the man can perform and that is what makes him so popular. He was FANTASTIC live and it is still one of my fondest memories. And you guys in the music thread don't know me as well as some other people on here, but he did take off his hat at one point which about killed me. (I have a thing for bald men lol)
The second show I saw in November of the same year. It was also at the Pepsi Center and my brother and I were 11 rows back. The opening band was called The Warren Brothers, as far as I know they aren't very famous...but they were GREAT. They did a lot of covers, a great one of Cheap Sunglasses and another of Between the River and Me. Second was Big and Rich (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_uhQu0JUXc). Um. I don't even know what to say about their show but it was NUTS. I have never been high in my life, but that is probably what it feels like. AWESOME performers, and it was so much fun. I will always remember the old man in front of us dancing and SINGING to Save A Horse Ride A Cowboy. And finally the main act was Brooks and Dunn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnXppT9jOeg). I am still so thankful that I saw such a legendary duo live. I have loved them since I was a little girl and still love them now. I am still so impressed at their showmanship, especially following Big and Rich. Anyway they were incredible if you ever have the chance to see them live. DO IT.
Third concert I went to was a small acoustic show by Josh Gracin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0AOQTZpi8Y) of American Idol fame. He was on season 1 I think, he is a great artist. My friend and I were like in the front row which was kinda awkward...but it was fun. He signed autographs and stuff after which was neat. He did a really, really fun cover of Friends In Low Places. His music is really good. :)
Fourth I saw Keith Anderson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGuOiBmKF04) at the Grizzly Rose the summer before I went to college, so summer before last. We were about three rows back and center. This show was excellent. I had my hair pulled by some psycho girl who was mad at me for catching his guitar pick which was interesting to say the least. But yeah...at the end he jumped into the crowd and signed autographs. He was awesome live.
AND FINALLY FIFTH. Phew. I saw a concert at Cheyenne Frontier Days this summer and I must say it was probably one of the best days of my life. My mom and I went because my friend ditched me last minute, but we had a great time. The opening act was Miranda Lambert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga-1ex6wsOY) who was good. I enjoyed myself during her act, but I couldn't concentrate on anything because Jason Aldean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXVI33aqfWk) was next! I think you all have gathered that I am just a little bit fond of that man. But yeah. Incredible, amazing, tear-jerkingly great. I loved him before and loved him even more after. He has an amazing stage presence and I MUST see him again someday. :D He did an awesome Tom Petty cover and was everything I could have hoped for.
Anyway. That was a lot of typing. I think I should probably expand the genres I see live, but good country music on the stage is excellent.

P.S. I am bald ;).

How good must a song be to be recorded by some of the greatest artists of virtually every genre in history? The answer of course is, really good.
The song I am referring to is Redemption Song. This is a song written and first performed by the great Bob Marley, but has since been sung by Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer, Lauryn Hill, Chris Cornell, and Pearl Jam among countless others. No matter what genres of music you enjoy, there is a version of this song that you will fall in love with.
The original version is my favorite, Bob Marley sang this song with both the pain of a black man(who must feel this song on a level that I as a white man may never understand) and the hopefulness of a Prophet. This version is extremely powerful, and moving. Also on a less serious note, I love that Jamaican sound and accent.
When Johnny cash sang this song it had the tone and tempo of an old Gospel Song. I love Cash's version of this song, he sang it when he got older so it exudes wisdom and experience, the way all of his American Recordings albums did. Johnny was like a fine wine, he got better with age and this song was no different.
Strummer's version of this great song has always felt anti-establishment to me, like a 60's protest song. Maybe that is a projection of my own opinion of Strummer and how I have always pictured him as a pioneer of one of the most anti-establishment art-forms of all time, punk rock.
While doing research for this post I came across a version sung by Chris Cornell that is beautiful. Cornell's voice would do any song justice, so with material like this you can only imagine how awesome it sounds.
Here are some links to different versions of the song. If you haven't heard this song before: A. where have you been and B. listen to all of them, you never know which one you will like better.

So my wife and I took the kids to the parade of lights tonight and there was a lot of x-mas music. So the question is what is your favorite x-mas song. It can be a traditional x-mas song or just any song that relates to x-mas.
Mine is Fairytale of NewYork by the pogues, sorry I can't post a youtube link because I am limited because I am on my Black Berry. It is really easy to find and I think it is an awesome song.

I have been directed here by Snapp.
I have a wide variety of musical tastes, and must thank Snapp for enlarging my country music library.
Growing up in NZ I got to enjoy the unusal style that is NZ music. Split Enz were the height of NZ music, and really still bring back so many memories for so many people.
Crowded House came out of Enz, and from there, Neil Finn has gone on to be one of NZ's best producers (and his sons are very good musicians), and other members have gone on to be hugely influential throughout NZ music.
My fav Split Enz song is Dirty Creature. It's about the darkness inside everyone that you have to fight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-k3QDTWrSg
And I See Red. The first time Coca-Cola used an NZ artist for an advert (Icey Red).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKj4upY1VYI
As you can see, they were pretty wild looking guys, given this was the late 70's early 80's, and it would take forever to get international music.
I also grew up with all the crooners, Sinatra etc, with a true love for Dean Martin. My grandfather was also a huge fan of Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison.
One of my best music memories was getting to meet the amazing (and way sexy) Chris Isaak. He was funny, polite, and his hair does that poofy thing naturally! *swoon*

I am now the proud owner of the new All-American Rejects CD....When The World Comes Down. There are 11 tracks listed on the back, but once you stick the CD in there are two hidden tracks, so yey!!
I am going to talk about each song here as they come up. And yea...I guess keep in mind this is one of my fave bands so I'm sure I will love it all. LOL
This is going to be long....read with caution. If you have no interest in AAR then you might just want to skip this hahaha.
1. I Wanna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhnmVu40Emw) -- Interesting intro...very AAR. I really like the lyrics to this song, and Tyson Ritter does a great job singing on this track, very true to their previous sound. "Our love is a perfect crime" is an excellent line. Very catchy song, I could see this being their next single from the CD. But since I haven't heard the rest yet, I'm not sure. About 2 minutes in there is a pretty awesome guitar part...this song is heavy on instrumentals, less vocal. I feel like this song is a bit long, I'm surprised it is still going...but I still really like it. So far so good!
2. Fallin Apart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpFTgsOVazE) -- Okay talk about interesting intro! Very unique, I can't say I've heard much like this recently. OOOh. This is a good song. Very AAR, cool use of background vocals, and Tyson once again does a great job on the lead. Good lyrics...really fun song to listen to. And wow....it becomes even more interesting towards the end. This is one thing I love about these guys, they have a very unique style and distinct sound. This song is pretty unique if you ask me. So far they are 2 for 2!
3. Damn Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCOOAiKd73o) -- Slower song than the first two so far. Great opening vocals from Tyson...at first I thought this song was pretty common sounding. Then it suddenly got pretty good at the chorus. Now its getting kinda average again, good lyrics though. Of course AAR's lyrics rock in general. When they get to the chorus of this song, it is excellent, but I can't say the rest of it is anything TOO special. Of course I like it still, I would like it if they sang the ABCs. OOooh some dirty lines too...I love when they sneak those in. "You know when he's inside you there's no room for me" hehehhe.
4. Gives You Hell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb2vu54j7-w) -- This is obviously the single they have out now, and I have been listening to it like crazy in anticipation of this CD. This is a good song, but it doesn't feel new to me since it is already on my top played songs after only having it for a few months. But I do like this song, it has a good sound, fun lyrics and I love the way they use backup vocals in it. Also loving the strong guitar over the chorus followed by the softer sound. And even though it has nothing to do with the CD, the music video for this song is great. It really shows off the personalities of AAR and its fun to watch. Damn, when the chanting guys join in at the end, that was a smart move. I think it gives this song something to make it stand out a bit. I would say they are 4 for 4 when it comes to my taste...maybe 3 for 4 even though I like it all so far.
5. Mona Lisa(When The World Comes Down) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Za9Y2HFhV74) -- Slowest song yet...good vocals from Tyson to begin it. Acoustic guitar too. Awww really sweet lyrics: You can sit beside me when the world comes down. This is a good song. I like it a lot, its different than anything I have heard from them before...but it still sounds like them if that makes any sense. Okay, some strange humming from Tyson...I would prefer him singing. But otherwise this song was pretty sweet...very good. :D
6. Breakin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDa-jjogwBM) -- A classic AAR intro....lots of instruments and singing immediately. I started smiling the second this song began because I knew it would be classic AAR....but it is classic in the sense that if feels new too. This lyric is good, "Breakin is what your heart is for." Maybe this could be the next single, I really have no idea. I don't know what they are wanting to put out...but this song is really great. I think its fun and well done. They do such a good job with supporting vocals. Awesome adding the sound of a beating heart towards the end...I wouldn't have noticed it except for the fact that I am really listening. Woot. This is my favorite so far.
7. Another Heart Calls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzDvRT6liXQ)-- WHAT. A GIRL. Ok, that kinda caught me off guard. I don't know what to think. Ok much better now...lets see if she still sings. Yep...she is still here. They have never done this before. I'm a little freaked out. I wonder who it is. Good lyrics....good sound. But I'm going to need to get used to hearing a girl on an AAR track. She has a good voice, but...this isn't normal!! HAHA. It sounds really good, this song is good. OH HECK YES. It just got a million times better, once again interesting background vocals make me love a song. haha. This is good. Tyson and this girl sound good singing together. And the background vocals are pretty kick-butt on this song. The lyrics are awesome too.
8. Real World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw_o2Iw3Fm8)-- I am expecting something about 7 strangers picked to live in a house, and have their lives taped. Woah...some weird sound on the intro...I don't know what it is. This is kinda heavy compared to what we have heard already on this CD....and then suddenly it gets AARish again. (Meaning kinda upbeat) Good lyrics. Nothing about when people stop being polite and start getting real. Some of the lyrics are kinda dark...they tend to have at least one song like this on every CD. I always like these songs, but I admit I prefer the kinda lovey dovey lyrics with happy sounding guitar etc. more than these. But its good. I can see a lot of people responding well to this. And I do like it, just not the most. haha. I'm sure I will love this on a bad-mood day. :D
9. Back To Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoHB8qD6aqA) -- Pretty average intro...good though, I just love AAR's songs because they all sound different to me, at least in the opening. Kinda slower so far. Yes. High pitched singing from Tyson, something that there must be on an AAR CD or it simply isn't AAR. Sweet lyrics so far, obviously a bit romantic from the song title. "When we live between so many walls I can barely breathe." I liked that line. Tyson sounds really good on this track...its well done, but pretty typical AAR. There is nothing too new on this one, but of course I like it. The end is SO AAR. Reminds me of their first CD a lot.
10. Believe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yhC6yv2UMs) -- Haha...nice intro. Weird lyrics at first, but we'll see. Nice guitar. Lots of good guitar. I think this is a good song, I really like it...but its average again. Nothing on it is REALLY standing out so far. It has a weird idea to it. About not believing that when you die, we all leave. Its very strange, and I'm not sure the lyrics fit the sound. I'll have to listen to this a few more times to see if it really works. Not bad though, just kinda weird. LOL
11. The Wind Blows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSS5BmPb5qg)-- Ok, this kinda sounds like Moby. hahaha. I'm amused by that. Some weird lyrics so far, but it sounds good. OOOh, the chorus is pretty interesting. This is definitely new for them, haven't heard them sounding quite like this before. I like that they aren't afraid to mess with their sound and experiment. Of course, Tyson's voice is so distinct I would know it was them the second he started singing. The end is pretty cool to listen to. This song is very pleasing to listen to...kinda relaxing but upbeat at the same time. Weird ending...but good song all in all.
Hidden Tracks:
12. Untitled -- Okay this is apparently 30 seconds long. And there is no song at all.....
13. Sunshine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBSk20ZRy2I) -- Wow. This song is already awesome. The intro is a cool combination of their first two CDs. It almost has a Disney music feel to it...awesome use of orchestra. And when the guitar comes in, its really well done. I like the lyrics. This song could easily have been on their first CD and fit in perfectly....and their second one the more I think about it. I hear weird tambourine though...I don't really love that. I like this song a lot, it has a very FULL sound to it if that makes any sense. Awesome end. They have another winner.
CD OVER.
That was long, but I am very pleased to have this...it was well worth my money. If anyone is a fan of these guys, buy this CD ASAP because obviously its good.
I think my favorite song so far is either I Wanna or Breakin. I think my least favorite as of now is Real World. But they are all very good songs, I like them all. I like every song they have ever put out though...soo I'm not a very good critic.
Now, this CD is a 10/10 for me. But I will be interested to see what other people thought of it.
If you read all of this, I salute you! :salute!:
EDIT: This (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review_28353) is a good review, pretty similar thoughts as mine. This person said Move Along was their best album...I beg to differ. It was totally their first, self-titled album. But to each their own.
Another Edit: I am reading more reviews, and a lot of people are saying its not good....and that Move Along was much better. Well...whatever. Move Along was their most commercial album...I think their first CD was incredibly unique, and this new one is attempting to back in that direction. Who knows? I like it, and I suppose that is all that matters. haha

That is a beautiful song Real! Christian bands produce some of the best stuff out there...even if you aren't religious or anything. I listen to the Christian station in Laramie all the time when I'm driving because musically it really is good to listen to. :D I know Skywalker does the same.

:) That's cool to hear. Would it happen to be Air1? I love that station. You can even listen online:
http://www.air1.com
But you're right. I will only listen to Christian music in the car... or period rather, unless it's a band I specifically like. I can't stand all the other stations that play 60% dribble, 30% commercials and maybe the other 10% you might here a good song.
But on top of that, I find that most Christian music is easy to listen to, and get in to. I have my favorites but I also find that some bands I don't like as much, or I can get tired of hearing but for the most part... I'm always satisfied. :)
I'll be sure to add some more of my favorites later after work if I remember.

I can't stop watching this. It is hilarious...and not too bad. It's kinda creepy though, but it gets really good at the end, they add in Happy Together and its really cool.
Plus they changed some of the lyrics and they are HILARIOUS!
They say something along the lines of: K-Fed you, you should have signed a pre-nup.
and in the original song, the lyric goes: Maybe in another world, I could be your girl. And they sing: Maybe in another world I could be a girl.

Occasionally I get in a reggae mood. I love Bob Marley but UB40 is my favorite band. They had some big radio hits but this is by far my favorite song by them.
This sounds great really cranked up. I love the bass.
Video is a little boring but the song is great.

Cool tunes .... with that first song Nancy Whiskey.....listening to it you have to be a fan of Social Distortion (http://www.last.fm/music/Social+Distortion/_/Pleasure+Seeker)
His voice sounds so similar to Mike Ness .... I love Social Distortion
With Rev Pat ....
I think I posted it a before I have seen them twice opening for Reverend Horton Heat, Galaxy 500 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a-oclENv4g)....Nowhere near one of the best shows I have seen but Rev Pat does a very good job at doing what an opening band should do ....Set the stage for a beer drinking fun rocking night....
With the Tossers ... I would like to see them live .... I can do the jig with the best of them and that I would be doing ...
Lawyers guns and money get me out of this ...:D
All I know is lawyers and Money and sadly I know them both well....No not really I'm smooth and the game has played me but I'm still playing it and I like to think I play it well....

You hit the nail on the head with your first comment. I have seen Social D live 4 times, I grew up listening to their tunes. From Mommy's Little Monster to Angels Wings, I don't think they have made a bad tune.

Yeah...I'm obsessed with Country music. :heh: It is the genre I know the most about, and probably listen to most. But I like everything.
I'm glad you enjoyed him, and you're right...he has a clean and true country sound. He is a great showman too. My mom and I might go to Country Jam in Grand Junction this summer and see him play again. Cross Canadian Ragweed is one of the earlier acts that day, so I'm hoping we go. :D
Do You Wish It Was Me is one of my very favorite songs by him. :)
Anyway...since this is the music thread, I thought I would post this here and see what you guys thought about it:

I don't love the song all the much, but I LOVE how much "controversy" it is causing. The debate about it on Fox News the other day was SO funny.

Hey Turtle, this is probably a really stupid question and I am obviously out of the loop, but why is that song controversial?

Um. Let me try and explain it without breaking COC. :P
Listen to the chorus, after the part that says: All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to....
She says: If You Seek Amy...but she says it very fast and puts emphasis on aMY making it sound like "ME"
Just listen to it again. :D
The people on the news were going nuts, saying it shouldn't be on the radio because little kids will hear it...please. lol.
I hope you got it, if not I will tell you again. :P

GOOD NEWS FOR ME!!
I, Snapping Turtle, have just purchased tickets for Country Jam on June 26th. Well, my mother purchased the tickets.
This is the lineup I'm seeing, and I am STOKED:
1. TBA...not sure about this one yet, probably someone lesser known, but I bet it is fun. :D
2. Cross Canadian Ragweed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuY4MkwWURs)-- I am THRILLED about this, I've been trying to see them for about 2 years now. I hear they are excellent performers and I LOVE their music. Plus the lead singer is hella-sexy. Not that you care. Because the majority of you are men.
3. Phil Vassar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOy59EdoN7I) -- I like Phil, I can't say he is like my FAVORITE artist or anything, but he is good. He has done a lot of great writing for other artists like JoDee Messina and Tim McGraw. Mom likes him, so he is part of the reason the tickets got bought. LOL The man plays excellent piano, so that should be interesting.
4. JASON ALDEAN! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TD1maMvjQ4) -- I'm not really sure I need to repeat here how I feel about the man, because I am sure you already know. This is why I worked so hard to get the dang tickets. I saw Jason last summer in Cheyenne and was nearly in tears the first five minutes of the concert I was so happy. I am SO weird. But yeah, this will be AWESOME!!! I can't believe I am going to see him twice, when I never thought I would ever be able to see him once. :D (And btw, I posted one of his songs I hadn't posted earlier if you want to hear something new. It is my favorite song off his first CD)
5. Big and Rich (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVEvhSuRNjQ) -- I've already seen them before too...they opened for Brooks and Dunn when I saw them. Amazing live, very fun and put on a good show. Another reason Mom got the tickets. :D
So I'm in it for Jason Aldean and CCR, and mom is for Phil Vassar and B&R. It should be a GREAT time. We got lawn seats which are far from the stage, but you get to chill in the sun all day and listen to live music. I can't say there is much more I could ask for. Except maybe some sort of baseball thrown in? LOL.
I am dying to know who TBA is going to be though. LOL
