View Full Version : Nick's offseason
This is my first off season mock draft. Will put a little better one next time with more in depth reasons on players etc.
Free Agents:
Nnamdi Asomugha - He will not be franchised for the second time nor staying with Raiders. Plus, The raiders will probably tag Lechler ;)
Brandon Jacobs - Do to wanting more carries he will no longer be a Giant. We will get a RB in draft do to his injuries and added depth.
Cedrick Wilson - WR depth
Karlos Dansby - Starter for LB, If unable to grab Dansby. Would not mind Suggs.
1st round:
Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama
If Mt Cody is off the board we grab a top tier safety on the board: Myron Rolle, S, Florida State / Taylor Mays, S, USC
2nd round:
B.J. Raji, NT, Boston College
I have been saying great things about this guy for about 2 years now. AND yes that is two NT's you see.
3rd round:
Patrick Chung, SS, Oregon OR Kam Chancellor, SS, Virginia Tech
4th round:
Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama
5th round a:
Wopamo Osaisai, CB, Stanford OR Mark Parson, CB, Ohio
5th round b:
Jaison Williams, WR, Oregon
On the Oregon State victory - "To go out and ruin somebody's dreams like that, it feels real good," said Oregon wide receiver Jaison Williams.
When he learns to catch the ball... He could be HUGE.
6th round:
Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina or Troy Kropog, OT, Tulane or Anthony Parker, OG Tennessee or Ryan Stancheck, OT West Virginia
Any of those guys could drop this far and should give us some added depth on the line.
7th round a:
Jared Brock, OLB, West Texas A&M
More of a special teams player.
7th round b:
Jose Martinez, K, UTEP
He should be able to compete and give Prater competition
Seattle traded its fifth-round selection in 2009 to the Denver Broncos in return for Keary Colbert. The pick can be upgraded to a fourth-round pick in 2009 depending on Colbert's playing time with the Seahawks.
The Denver Broncos traded an undetermined conditional selection to the New York Jets as part of the Dewayne Robertson trade.
The Atlanta Falcons traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the Denver Broncos in return for CB Dominique Foxworth. The pick can increase based on playing time.

Will Denver have the CAP to sign Aso, Jacobs, and Dansby/Suggs?
I doubt it, that is 3 guys that will be getting top money for their positions.
I think drafting Cody and Raji would do Denver well, but I'm not sold on Chung
being any fix for any secondary in the NFL.

c'mon Nick, I thought that you were better than that.
:nono: two Defensive tackles in the first 2 rounds?!?!?
We need a safety. Our defensive tackles have been great. They are doing their job. They dont rack up stats, but their job is to occupy blockers so that the Linebackers can make tackles...
A lot of Linebacker tackles=the D-tackles are doing their job
Thus we dont need a defensive tackle early
WE NEED SAFETIES!!!! :salute!:

Sad thing is Mays and rolle are most likely gone, Not sold on Moore.
Don't get me wrong I want a top tier Safety big time.

I'm not sold on Moore either....but if Mays is there, we HAVE to grab him. If he's not then I would go with a Middle Linebacker or a Defensive End.
Myron Rolle is probably not going into the draft anyways :salute!:

I would not mind Rey Maualuga, USC or Brandon Spikes, Florida... BUT would hate us getting a DE early.

Hmmm....where to begin....
First, nice effort, always enjoy reading these things.
Now, onto my thoughts:
1) Myron Rolle has already stated he's going to Oxford as his Rhodes Scholarship can't be deferred. He may enter the draft, but it will be at least two years until he plays NFL football. Someone *might* take a flier on his rights in the 7th round and wait for him, and I don't think that's a bad idea, but he's not going to be drafted remotely high, if at all.
2) I seriously doubt Taylor Mays enters the draft. I can't even think of the last USC Trojan, on defense, that left school early. Those guys are treated like Gods in Southern Cal, and that place is damn near close to my vision of heaven.
3) William Moore is legit and he is *the* safety in this draft. After all the success Kenny Phillips has had this year off a horrific Senior year, teams are not going to let Moore slip due to his solid, but not spectacular, Senior year. Moore is better then Phillips, in every way, and he'll be going in the Top 10 - 20 picks to someone, probably Houston or Philly.
4) It is financially impossible for a team that has Cutler, Marshall, Dumervil, Kuper, and Scheffler coming up for extensions soon, to all try and sign the 3 most expensive Free Agents possibly *ever* at their respective positions. Absolutely impossible. We *might* be able to fit one, might, but that's doubtful.
5) The NY Giants have already stated that they won't let Brandon Jacobs get away, whether its a Franchise or a long term deal.
6) Al Davis fired DeAngelo Hall to clear up money for Asomugha. Al Davis is a pig-headed, egocentric old man, and there is no way Asomugha gets away from the Raiders, even if he has to Franchise him for the rest of his life.
7) I'm not sure what you want to do with Dansby, whom has stated that he wants to resign with the Cardinals, and the Cardinals have stated they want him there until he retires. He's an OLB that plays WILL. Are you suggesting we move DJ Williams to MIKE? If so, what do we do with Woodyard, whom looks like our 2nd best LB this year? Woodyard can only play WILL, he gets destroyed by blockers which encompass playing MIKE or SAM.
8) If Cody comes out, he'll go in the Top 15 picks. San Francisco desperately needs a Nose Tackle for their 3-4. San Diego needs an up-and-comer behind Jamal Williams. Atlanta needs a NT to groom behind Grady Jackson. Pat Williams is close to retiring in Minnesota. Etc...
9) BJ Raji is a 1st Round lock to the teams that lose out on Cody above. At absolute worst, he won't make it past Detroit with the 1st pick in the Second Round.
10) Patrick Chung is a 2nd Round Safety, no doubt about that. He could sneak into the late 1st depending on how things go. Personally, I think he's a Mid-2nd Round pick, and a very likely option for our team.
11) Rashad Johnson is *very* likely to be moved to Cornerback in the NFL. He's small, fast, and has excellent ball skills. He's also likely an early 3rd Round Pick at absolute worst.
12) Mark Parson is a 2nd or 3rd Round guy. Small school, but he's no secret, *everyone* is well aware of his elite skills.
13) Jamon Meredith might go in the Late 1st Round. Having him in the 6th is just silliness.
14) 7th Round might be too late for Martinez, he's the 2nd best K in this draft, some might view him as the best. Regardless, the top K's usually go in the 5th-6th Round.

Hahaha! Good one! Joke of the year right here! I'm gonna get in on this. Our defensive ends get plenty of pass rush!
Safety is not a huge need. Our safeties are terrible, granted, but we have to build the trenches! Our secondary should only have high-round picks when we can stop the run halfway decent.

We won't get Brandon Jacobs. He doesn't fit in AT ALL. He's a straight ahead downhill make you **** your pants if you try and tackle me kind of runner.
We need an evasive back who can cut back with our zone scheme.
I doubt Cody is coming out. BJ will be late 1st early 2nd. I would switch Rashad J. to the 3rd round cause that's prob. where he'll end up.
I don't want us taking a high round SS as Barrett has looked good.
I love Mark parson, but he'll be a late 2nd rounder.

Pretty original Mock Nick so I give you Kudos for that.....I dont have much to say about the FA pickups....
I do have an open field question though...Is WR Nate Washington from the Steelers a FA this year ???
The only other thing I can add here is that Keary Colbert no longer plays for the Seahawks....

I like your draft Nick!!! I give you a A.
Terrance Cody------ HUGE DT to stop the run
BJ Raji-------------- 7 Sacks and very EXPLOSIVE DT(I do think he will go in 1st Round though probably 18-32nd.
Chung-------------- Very good Pick
I would like to see another RB.
Overall if you Draft happened I WOULD BE STOKED!!!!!

I've said this before and I'll say it again...the DT have not been doing their job, their job is to take up blockers AND make plays on the ball. Our 2 best, Engelberger and Thomas are tied for 96th in the league for defensive linemen with 25 tackles. 96th!!! That is not getting thier job done.

I strongly disagree.
Anyone can occupy blockers. They need to get to the QB. What good is Champ if the WR has a minute to get open?
We need a Big ol' run stuffer and quick penetrating force.

welcome back nick:salute!:
anyways to begin with.....i think mt cody stays in school, but moving raji to that 1st rd pick would be great, he is easily a top Dt right now. and would fit great in rd 1 for us leaving rd 2 to take a impact safety like hamlin, harris, peagues, chancellor or maybe chung.
i aslo dont think we will have the funds for all those FA, but aso would rock here.....
anyways welcome back solid effort

1st round:
Terrence Cody, NT, AlabamaHe is not a good fit as a penetrater in the 4-3 I also really dont think he will come out. Plus i am not sold on him staying healthy in the NFL. He needs to drop a additional 40-50 lbsIf Mt Cody is off the board we grab a top tier safety on the board: Myron Rolle, S, Florida State / Taylor Mays, S, USC
2nd round:
B.J. Raji, NT, Boston CollegeIm also really high on him as well as last year. Last year i thought he woudl have fit the Defense good as a NT type. but he has also shown this year that he can get after the QB getting 5-6 sacks.
I have been saying great things about this guy for about 2 years now. AND yes that is two NT's you see.
3rd round:
Patrick Chung, SS, Oregon OR Kam Chancellor, SS, Virginia Tech
I dont like Chung before round 4 You got the right position though
4th round:
Rashad Johnson, FS, AlabamaThere is talk that he is gonna make a better cdcover 2 corner. i think if we can get him right here we would be lucky.
5th round a:
Wopamo Osaisai, CB, Stanford OR Mark Parson, CB, Ohio
5th round b:
Jaison Williams, WR, Oregoni realy like his size but his route running and hands leaves alot to be deseired.. he will not be any good at the next leval
If you are going to take a Lineman you need to take a guy that is a interior guywe have pears and polumbus at tackle that look promesing.
Any of those guys could drop this far and should give us some added depth on the line.
7th round a:
Jared Brock, OLB, West Texas A&M

.i think you hit one to many positions early to many times to Dt in the first second i dont like i dont like taking two safeties i definetly think its a need we just shouldnt double dip back to back unless guys fall. over all i would give this draft a D

Rolle was interviewed by Jim Rome recently (aired yesterday) on his future plans. He still wants to play in the NFL, as he has said previously, but not until he finishes his 2 years at Oxford, which isn't news. What was noteworthy was his comment on his long-term plans. He doesn't envision a long NFL career, and teams are undoubtedly factoring this into their draft calculus.
I'm not clear on his draft status. Normally, from what I understand, underclassmen declare. He's clearly eligible now if he choses to declare, but he may also be eligible now because he's already graduated. Please enlighten me on this if you understand the rules governing draft eligibility.
Yesterday's interview only makes me want to draft him more (albeit not with a high pick). And the prospect of his only playing for 'a while' doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for picking him. It even makes him look like low cost pick up for two years from now. I'd part with -- at least --the second pick in the 6th (assuming Foxy re-signs). I'd also like to see him hook up with some people at CU-Health Sciences.

I do not know the actual language of the rule governing this, but my recollection is that previous players that were drafted into baseball or the army, could have their rights selected in the NFL draft if a team wanted to squat on them in the event they would choose to play football at a later time. I think a similar approach was discussed concerning Drew Henson and Jeff Samardja (sp?) in recent history.
Samardja (sp?) in particular is the one I remember being discussed on TV regarding a team taking a late round flier on his rights in the event his baseball career wouldn't work out.
I revised my offseason after looking where the draft websites have some people placed and looking at what teams would be drafting in front of us. I personally think we will draft between 26-32.
The big free agents I have The Broncos bringing in are Karlos Dansby (Arizona) and Mike Brown (Chicago).
We will then Re-Sign Ebenezor Ekuban, Patrick Ramsey, and Karl Paymah.
Get Brandon Marshall and Dumervil extended.
