I think many of you will agree that there is a lot of talent in this draft. specially in the first round. I believe with our first pick in 2009 we will go after Taylor Mays S USC. No doubt in my mind that we wont get him if he is available.
I believe one of the shocking offseason cuts is going to be Boss Bailey, coming off a serious injury. With that being said i believe we trade up to arounf 25th spot and going after Brian Cushing OLB USC. I dont care what anyone says about him this man is a beast!!
Meaning we r gonna have to give up prob our 2nd or 3rd along with a couple of picks.
If we dont get a second first rounder we r going to get Evander Hood 2nd round

Our only option at first would be something like Marshall and maybe a third to get another first.
It would be very stupid for Denver to trade the middle portion of their draft for a first round pick, considering all the needs we have.

I hope we get Mays....:salute!:
The most physically gifted safety to come through the draft in a long, long time.

It's hard to say how good those guys actually are. Many times the guys from the best defenses and such aren't actually the top prospects...they just seem like it because they are surrounded by such talent. USC has one of the best defenses ever and definitely the top in the league this year. I think those guys may be partially benefitting from being in that great defense. I would be interested to see some prospects from some defenses that werent as good overall. For example, I'm from VT and Macho Harris, CB, is a stud within that defense. It is a good overall defense, but you can clearly see they wouldn't be anywhere without him.

Mays will fix our safety problem. Him and Mcree will be a great combo. Mcree had a bad year with a new system and injuries. With Cushing we will have a dominate LB with great closing speed, great with the pass and run. Plus he can get to the Qb. If we have too we can move Boss to MLB. I think he will play better there anyways

Kam Chancellor from VT could be a steal if he declares for the draft. He's a star in the secondary along with Macho and has excellent closing speed. Yes i am a VT home, but he is still a great player.

He's an interesting prospect for the 09 draft but he's already said he's coming back, so unless he gets really good news from the advisory board he's not an option for this draft.......

Gross. I really don't want 2 first round picks, unless somebody gives it to us.
With our drafting history, even with a new front office, I'd feel better with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, than two firsts.

If there really is that much talent.....then the smart choice would be to trade down.....I believ that you trade up when the talent is thin. By trading down....you still get good talent, but more of it , and you know we need more .......Lets trade back.....

No way we move up... I mean what would we have to give up? But for the sake of this thread.... Say we do. If we drafted Cushing.... the entire front office needs to be shot... OLB is a low priority position, and we have a little talent there.... What do we have in the middle (LB or DLine)??

I will agree with you that Safety is a HUGE need.
But it is Rediculous--------Recola---- to trade away a 2009 2nd and probably 2010 1st to get a LB. Give me a break.
The reality is Denver's Safety's Suck. So Mays would be a Smart move.
The next Reality is that our DLine Sucks and we get ZERO PRESSURE on QB's and we can't Stop the Run. This has nothing to do with our LB's.
If we were going to trade back into the 1st Round Let it be for
BJ Raji ------Big , Strong , Aggressive DT

I think alot of this depends on what we do with Wesley Woodyard... Is he on the sidelines (depth) or is he a starting LB or a starting SS?
Once we figure that out... Then we have to see what free agency brings.
I mean, if Wesley is a LB or we sign a MIKE (Peterson, Thomas, Vilma) then I highly doubt we draft a LB in the first round.
I think it's smart to see what falls to us at #12 in the first round.
I would like Mays (FS) and then Jerry (DT) in the 2nd, but I would also like Raji (DT) in the first and Rashad Johnson (FS) in the second.
So... it makes sense to wait and see what falls to us. I would be all for grabbing an extra first rounder. Here's my thinking.
Our defense needs to be rebuilt... Rebuilding your defense always begins in the trenches. SO, we need to draft a DT. We also need an immediate-impact type free agent player (S, LB).
This is why it would make sense to bundle our first round pick in 2010 for a mid-to-late first round pick.
This way... we could grab Moreno, Spikes, Mays, Maualuga, Curry, and an Orakpo, Raji or Perry.
SO... in my dream scenario... We draft Spikes at #12, grab another first round pick (say #20) and draft Raji... THEN, we snag Rashad Johnson in the second.
Spikes, Raji, Johnson along with a few free agent pick-ups would be a great start. LET'S NOT FORGET... We get a DEFENSIVE coach... and... maybe he turns Jaris Moss into Justin Tuck... Maybe the scheme helps?
SO... two first round picks, a few free agents plus a new DEF coach... This should help.
AND... I would trade our first in 2010... B/C we are making the playoffs! We'll end up with the 21st pick or something. SO, why not draft that DL NOW... start developing him... Why wait a year?
