Local Sports Talk station (1310 The Ticket) is reporting DAL is going to release Roy Williams (S) and Greg Ellis (OLB/DE).

Both players would be nice stopgaps for DEN next year. Both are upgrades over what we currently have, would fit in and help, which would allow DEN to rebuild in other areas...

Ellis might cost more... he'll probably end up in MIA...

BUT, Roy Williams would make for a perfect SS... he'll certainly help out on the run. We could sign ROY Williams, along with Michael Huff... This way we can spend the big money on Peppers.

Tend to agree here. I just don't think they are what this team needs. Roy is definetly on the decline, and there are better options for the positions they both play. I'm tired of stopgap solutions, its time we get some young talent to stay here for at least 3 years.

Ellis would be fine if:

1) He came cheap, he will be 34 yrs old.
2) He understood that he would be in a rotaion with a rookie or Moss.
3) The contract was a 1 yr deal much like what we gave DJax.

We really need depth at OLB, and him or Babin fit my idea of good depth.

This was kind of what i was thinking...

Roy Williams comes in and "grooms" Josh Barrett (and hopefully Michael Huff)... All three pretty much rotate.

Greg Ellis comes in... Bill Parcells moved him from the 4-3 DE to the 3-4 OLB, and he went to the pro bowl... He should be able to show DOOM and MOSS how to do this...

AGAIN... I would pruse both if the price was right.

Peppers would be my big sign... A guy like Gabe Watson or something my middle signing... and a few cheap low-risk signings in Ellis, Williams & Huff.

I wouldn't sign for many years, or big money...

Roy is declining and is horrible in coverage. I don't think either of these guys is what we need. The defense is not going to be fixed in one season but I know it will be better definitely if we focus on defense in the draft and free agency, but neither of these guys is what we need! Focus on the front seven first!:helmet:

Roy Williams is horrible, horrible, really horrible in coverage. He would be something like Marquand Manuel part 2.

Yes please to both of them. Roy Williams would automatically be the best safety on our roster.

Ellis would be fine for a year or two as we transition, he'd be a great mentor, though he gets testy if he doesn't start.

Roy Williams is the equivalent of playing Wesley Woodyard at Strong Safety. Big hits, good against the run, can't do a danged thing against the pass or cover.

No thanks to Williams, he is just a slightly younger version of Lynch in terms of playing style. Greg Ellis I would consider to be a starter for a year or two as we develop starters and depth for a 3-4 defense.

i dunno, I think i'd rather have williams than ellis...ellis whines to much about playing time.

Williams is only 28, and if we had a real ball hawk as our other safety he could still play at a pro bowl level

OJ Atogwe and Roy Williams...lol i can dream cant i?

he is 4 years younger than lynch was when we signed him (Lynch Was 32, Williams is 28)

and even at that age we got 3 very productive years out of lynch:salute!:
and lynch's playing style likely earned him a spot in the Hall of Fame

Wow that isnt really saying a lot...... Roy would be an ok pick up. But if I had the choise I would prefer Huff as my SS... but Ellis would be a really solid low cost solution for a year or two till out young guys can learn the D

I hate Roy Williams, he is a 2 down safety!

ellis whines to much about playing time and is not the kind of player you want on a young defense succeptible to that kind of attitude.

Roy williams is worse than marquand manuel in coverage, so he may bring better tackling ability and better hits, but he will get demolished by the TE's in this league. You thought manuel looked bad on that robert meachem TD in the saints Game???? or that he was bad against winslow in the browns game???? williams probally would have still been in the box wondering what happened....the guy doesnt belive the pass exists in the NFL....

He really isnt a good safety overall, and he pretty much like KWHIT said would be a 2 down safety.

Thats not worth the money we would pay at all in my opinion

Really you think that he can play on 2 downs? I dont even think that. Cause now a days teams pass on second and short..... But I like him in goalline.... The guy has fewer coverage skills than Lynch did. You need a ball hawking safety, this guy is a ball magnet... Who ever he is covering gets the TD

As much as I love his tackling, I would say no to Williams. If there was a guarantee that the Broncos were still running a 4-3, it wouldn't even be debatable given his coverage ability. I wouldn't boldly say he's declining, because of the arm breaks. Hard to asses a guy who hasn't played.

Yeah... Roy got hurt, tried to return too early and then was lost for the year.
