View Full Version : Why Detroit would be crazy not to give up 2 1st rounders?

The more I think about it, if this carries on with Jay...up to the draft you are going to see some crazy offers coming in for Cutler...

I think most of us agree that the starting rate is two 1st rounders for Jay. I think the team that will sacrifice the most for Jay is Detroit.

1. First Detroit can save a ton of money by giving away both first rounders and carrying Jay's low salary.

2. Detroit gets a proven QB who could make them an instant winner... and actually can thrive without huge talent...Jay as we all know has that make something out of nothing talent.

3. Detroit has to many holes to fill...Michigan is hurting more than anyone with the economy and needs a star to sell tickets.

Denver could get some late picks or some role players thrown in...but stay tuned this could get very interesting!

1) Mostly only Denver fans feel the "Starting Rate" is two first rounders.

2) Detroit has too many holes to fill, you said that, so they need the picks.

3) Denver doesn't want the first overall pick.

To have the first overall pick does not mean you use it. It gives you a lot of leverage. A team like Chigago would give up their 18th overall and a second or third no problem to get Stafford. There are many of these Chicago scenarios out there.

1. The contract Jay and his blood-sucking agent want as early as 2010 is going to be as big or bigger than what Detroit would be paying the #1 pick this year and the #20 pick this year combined!

2. Jay Cutler is less proven than a QB they already have on thier roster (Duante Culpepper), Jay has proved nothing yet. Oh, and that "make something out of nothing" talent you mentioned, I guess Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, Brandon Stokely, Daniel Graham and a constant top 10 running attack is what you call nothing. Not to mention one of the best O-Lines in the game, which he clearly will not have in Detroit!

3. You said it, they have many holes to fill, they cannot afford to give up draft picks!

For Detroit it makes ALOT more sense to draft Matt Stafford #1 overall, he is a Cutler-clone and has all the talent in the world but without the attitude. Plus, Stafford may be making more money this year, but he will be on that same rookie contract for at least 4 or 5 years, where as Jay will demand a Record- Breaking deal as early as 2010, long term the trade makes no sense whatsoever for Detroit!

Good points...especially with the Stafford money savings. But Stafford could still turn into that first round QB dud.

Just look at his Vanderbilt team and you know what I mean from something out of nothing.

Jay is perfect for a team that has lots of holes and needs some excitement brought to the game. He is a competitor and ala Favre will go down swinging. Now the question is does he have the discipline and the leadership skills to win....Time will tell!

I know if I'm Detroit do I want to go through a 2 or 3 year growing period, versus today's economy where I need to figure out how to sell tickets now.

An instant winner?, no NFL HOF QB could overcome the train wreck in Detroit. Cutler isn't going to want to play for them. I heard the ESPN radio rumors today. I just don't see it happening.

Um, Chicago is plenty happy with their QB, Orton, right now.

No team wants to trade up for the first pick because
A) It takes way to much to move up
B) You have to pay a player way to much

If it were easy to trade the #1 pick, don't you think teams would do it?
