three primetime games in a row with baltimore, washington, and pitt?
jhildebrand
04-14-2009, 03:58 PM
Pretty favorable scheduling in the sense that our longest road stretch at any point in the season is only 2 games!
To me, we could start out 3-0 and end up 3-5 by week 8

That is one hell of a schedule down the stretch.....
Hopefully we can go 2-0 at the beginning and get this team playing together well before we hit the really hard games.

At least we get 3 warm up games before we hit the real opponents.
I don't know if DAL will be tough or not, but if they are, that one stretch will be even crazier with DAL, then NE, then SD, then BAL, then PIT.
BRONCOS_OWN_U16

i hope we can start out 3-0. those first 3 teams were very weak last year but you never know.
cowboys are not that good in my opinion plus were at home so we will have a good chance of winning. Same with Baltimore. Flacco is not that good and thier offense stinks. Plus they lost some important defensive peices so we should have a chance in that game as well.
that san diego monday night game could be ugly. i hope its not another 52-20 game.
anyway i think we can pull a 9-7 or 10-6 season this year. will it be enough for the wild card? not sure yet. 9-7 probably not, 10-6 maybe
Broncosojia
04-14-2009, 04:09 PM
We could be 3-8 going into week 12 against the chiefs.
BTW, who do we have to strangle in order to get a home opener?

04-14-2009, 04:10 PM
NFL was actually easy on us. Gave us a few easier games to start and not as hard in december. If we can go 3-0 1st three weeks, we have a chance of gaining some confidence and stealing some games in week 4-10. If we areanything near 6-4 after week 10, We will be in the playoffs.

It's funny how the releasing of the schedule is such an event now.
On a side note to the OP, you probably thought that by starting the thread 15 minutes before that people would actually post in yours rather than create duplicates huh.
It is what it is though.

Ouch....
I knew it would be a brutal schedule but seeing it on paper just reenforces it.
We could win only two games this year.....or we could win ten.
I can't wait to see how our defense looks against Brandon Jacobs and Eli on Thanksgiving night.
Lets hope McDaniels can have this team ready to play because outside of the Cleveland, Oakland (home and away), and K.C. (home and away) I don't see us being favored......maybe Cincy but I don't know with it being at their house.

I think that is pretty realistic, i pretty much agree. All i'd change is a win against Dallas (its a mess down there and it wont get better until they get a real head coach) and i hate to say it but i think we go 0-2 against San Diego.
I'm still hopeful this season, its the NFL and anything can happen. I cant wait for the season to start!

They didn't get worse. They get Merriman back healthy.
I hope we do everything we can to beef up the Defense and actually have a chance in either one of those games.

it's the NFL no one has an "easy" schedule....on paper looks like it could be tough....but if a teams good...they will win.....and who knows who will be injured at any point during any of those games....I mean supposed every opponent Denver played the starting QB for the other team missed the game and Denver went 16-0....but everyone returned for the playoffs....it would completely change how people viewed the game....don't freak out yet la~...just enjoy each game...as they come...

Who knows how good any of these teams will be?! Last year everyone in the league thought games against the Dolphins and Falcons were guaranteed wins and both of those teams turned out to be pretty good.
The Cowboys were BRUTAL down the stretch last year, they don't deserve anyone's respect until they go out and earn it.
The Chargers were an 8-8 team last year, yes they won the division but look at just how poor the division was. Everyone acts as if the Chargers are some dynamo team but the truth is they weren't last year and they have done NOTHING to improve their team going into the upcoming season. They have aging players at running back and nose tackle, they don't currently have anything more then average players at MLB, S or even DE.
However right now both of those teams could go 19-0 this year...no one knows! Trying to predict how our schedule will unfold in April, before the draft, and before any team has put on pads is an exercise in futility!

Strength of schedule doesn't mean a whole lot until teams actually get on the field and play. Two years ago, the Lions were a decent team (7 wins). This year, they were terrible. Who predicted last year that the best team in the AFC West would go 8-8? Who thought the Falcons and the Dolphins were going to make the playoffs? Who thought the Jaguars were going to flop like they did?

I think that some people want to see coach McDaniels fail and therefore look for a mediocre season. I'm placing my faith in this franchise and say that the Broncos will finish the first half of the season 6-2 losing to the Pats and the Bolts. I won't even look at the second half of the season until our bye week. :go:

That's true, and that was the point of my post, no one knows how good any of these teams will be until they actually start training camp and then play games. The Chargers may go 19-0 this year, or the 8-8 last year could signal their window was closing and they go 5-11 this year...no one knows!
So looking at a schedule now and trying to pin wins and losses to it is stupid, maybe Denver goes 0-3 to start the year and ends up 8-3 after week 12...wait until they play the games to find out!

It looks to me like 3-5 at midseason, 7-9 final record.
I don't like that middle section... the easier games toward the end don't mean much if too many L's pile up. The team needs to have some wins under their belt heading into that tough stretch, otherwise things will get ugly.
anyone else think maybe those 3 teams that we think we should beat also think they should beat us?
JaysusCutler

7-9 or 8-8? That's how I see it as it stands now. May be worse or better depending on how fast we can start.
CanDB
04-14-2009, 04:41 PM
Yes it is a tough schedule, BUT, if we start it 2 and 0 or even 3 and 0 (and we could), I like the momentum that is mounting, which is a morale boost and a confidence builder. After that it looks wild, but you play one game at a time, (more cliches:heh:) AND...not every year replicates itself. In other words, the initial gauge of the schedules is how teams performed in 08, but seldom if ever do teams play the same in back to back years. And remember last year, when we thought Miami and Atlanta were "in the bag" games....ironically beating the Falcons was a lift instead of a gimme.
Also, Pittsburgh won the whole thing last year, with a super hard schedule. IF you are a well managed team, with discipline, having a tough schedule can make you tougher as well. You can not let up, and you need to focus. And that's why good teams can do even better with a tough schedule..... especially if they make the playoffs, as they know the path, the effort and the formula for handling competitive teams.
If anything, a soft schedule may be detrimental to a team's overall success.

If you cheer for any team and don't have optimism at this time of year then there's no point in watching the NFL.
You can be excited about the season, but that doesn't mean that you have to get delusional.
We have a first-time head coach, a new OC, an new DC, a new system, and a new QB and some real tough opponents on our schedule. It's not all that crazy to think that we're going to have a tough time making any kind of run at the playoffs.
That would be incredible if we make the playoffs this season, but I don't think you need to force yourself to believe that it is actually going to happen in order to enjoy the NFL.
I'm excited about the season just like I am every year, but I think we'll probably be around 7-9 or 8-8 when it's all said and done. If Mcdanels can put together a 10+ win team this year, he really will be the coach of the year.

Dang. That is a killer middle part of the season.
Has anyone ever noticed that if we win our first few of the season then our season usually sucks? Last year we started 3-0 and collapsed. The year before we started 2-0 and went 7-9.
But in 2006 we lost our opening game but actually finished with a winning season. And in 05 we lost our opener but won the division and went to the AFCCG.
Maybe we should lose to the Bengals?

I am predicting that Denver starts 5-0, obviously the Pats and Cowboys are going to be tough but I think that they can get it done. As for the rest of the season, 5-6. Losing against the Chargers once, Ravens, Steelers, Giants, Colts and Eagles. Sweeping the Chiefs and Raiders and beating the Redskins.
My prediction............10-6 with a playoff birth :peace:

Well this schedule slaps us again for coming in 2nd. SD gets Miami and Tenn while we get NE and Indy.
I do agree the first couple games could really help us. If we win those then things will go up. If we fall though it could cause allot of problems for McD.
Do not think Cincy is a gimme. Our pass rush in the past made average QBs look like stars and Carson Palmer is not average.
Clev almost beat us last year.
Oak did beat us last year.
These games will be just as tough as Dallas realistically.
I seriously think we could be 6-0 going into the bye but man we could be 1-5 as well.
Man I love the NFL!:go:

this is going to be a rough year; highly doubt we'll be able to win even once against SD, probably won't sweep the raiders or chiefs. Toss up games are dallas, baltimore, washington, giants, and philly.

i think we will start out 2-2, be kinda on and off, but then later in the season pull together and start looking like a good football team. It is gonna take time for this system and our D to come around though. I don't like predicting records but I will say we will be somewhere in between 6-10 and 9-7, schedule is just to hard for me to be to optimistic, but its just paper right now so who knows:salute!:

Sept. 27th at Oakland L 1-2 The Raiders run the ball to weel at home
Oct. 4th vs Dallas L 1-3 Too much offense for our d to handle

Oct. 19th at San Diego L 1-5 grrrrrr
Nov. 1st at Baltimore L 1-6 Kyle Orton, meet Ray Lewis
Nov. 9th vs Pittsburgh L 1-7 This schedule is not fair!
Nov. 15th at Washington W 2-7 Portis is hurt, Wash overlok us...we win!
Nov. 22nd vs San Diego L 2-8 Man I hate those guys.
Nov. 26th vs N.Y. Giants L 2-9 I am not thankful this year. Peole boo McD
SDec. 6th at Kansas City L 2-10 we never win there in Dec.
Dec. 13th at Indianapolis L 2-11 next
Dec. 20th vs Oakland W 3-11 Thank God for Oakland. McD loses this one and he is fired for sure.
Dec. 27th at Philadelphia L 3-12 Dawkins cries at his homecoming
Jan. 3rd vs Kansas City W 4-12 Does McD get a 2nd season?
I have done this every year as a bronco fan since I was in the 7th grade about 23 years ago. Only once have I predicted less than 10 wins and that was in 2001 following a 5-11 season. I hope I am wrong.....but usually I am not.
If we can start off 3-0 and then go 3-5 in the most difficult strecth followed by 3-2 in the final stretch, I would be happy. That would be 9-7. 8-8 would almost be satisfying too. The schedule is just too brutal.

I could be insanely optimistic, but if I was betting my money on wins and losses, this is how I'd wager things play out.
at Cincinnati W
vs Cleveland W
at Oakland L (Raiders usually play one game against Denver tough each season)
vs Dallas L (if this was later in the season I'd give it to Denver, but Dallas usually starts out strong before they fizzle out)
vs New England L
at San Diego L
at Baltimore L (this is the week we discover that Orton isn't all that great)
vs Pittsburgh L
at Washington L (I don't like Denver's D against Portis at home)
vs San Diego L (when was the last time, blown call aside, that Denver was competitive against SD?)
vs N.Y. Giants L
at Kansas City L
at Indianapolis L
vs Oakland W
at Philadelphia L (only because its at Philly and the Eagles might have something to play for)
vs Kansas City W

So, Cutler gets the easiest schedule in the NFL to work with this season?
CutlersRightArm
04-14-2009, 07:45 PM
The Broncos should just tank the season. Go 2-14, land the top overall pick and get Sam Bradford. Also, looks like the Bears pick is going to be in the mid-20s so that balances out, cap-wise. Probably tough to make the No. 1 overall pick if you have another top 10 pick to pay, but doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

Silly Donko fans. First you fire your Hall Of Fame Coach. Then you trade your Pro-Bowl QB. Now you get stuck with a schedule that dooms you to sit in the basement of the west after Week 3. Enjoy looking up at the Raiders this season. As for us, well we'll be making our perennial trip to the playoffs representing this division, spanking on the weak West and rolling on with a healthy LT and Merriman. 12 and 4 Mark it...I have faith in this team if they aren't stupid and things go as they should...

12-4 is pretty optimistic.
We have no idea what will happen with all of this personel including new coach and QB.
If we go 12-4, the bar has been exceeded.
If we go 4-12, the bar will just be raised next year.

Watching NFLN these bears fans are sad, really dont know what they are getting in Cutler. They think he is amazing every game. But you dont get good Jay every day. It will be interesting what he does when hester or whoever starts dropping the ball, and time gets tough.
His 'go to' guy will be Olsen and with their cake schedule, Jay should break into CHI pretty smoothly. Unfortunately
However, any given Sunday -- I love the NFL!!

id have to say 7-9 for the dolts
Well, I guess we've all seen crazier things happen. (like last season) Seems like anything can happen. I like our chances more this season since everyone "appears" healthy. We should get at least 10 wins this year. But on the other hand, we were supposed to be a "lock" for the SB with the Cowboys last year. Guess we'll all have to wait and see.
Denver usually comes out of the gate pretty strong and your schedule seems to favor that happening again. The middle of your schedule looks pretty scary though. The end is no cakewalk either. A good test for the new coach and QB.
Look at it this way; NO ONE is expecting the Broncos to make much noise this season especially now that the schedule is out. What does McD have to lose? I'd say he'll be trying some uncharacteristic things. We all saw what Miami did last year. They came off a pretty lousy year with a new coach and brought in things like the "wildcat" offense. Hell, why not? Roll the dice and see what happens.

I think it is great,
Giants, pittsburgh, Dallas at home,
Baltimore, Washington, and Indy (ouch) on the road, you couldn't of cut it better.
If they get to a fast start, which is no guarentee, the team will jell a lot sooner, and great things can happen.
Dallas is going to be worse than last year, it is inevitable, it's the wade philips era at it's finest.
Baltimore will be tough, but new DC
Philly will be tough, but a huge game for Dawkins, and he'll be pumped.
Washington was pretty inconsistant
It is going to be an exciting season, anyone who is saying 4-12 needs to open the curtains and get some fresh air, and quit crying into their cutler jersey's you haven't even seen ONE PRESEASON game, or a draft.

at San Diego W 3-3 50/50 Im betting on the road teams this season (we find ourselves this week)
at Baltimore W 4-3 Our D finally plays inspired ball
vs Pittsburgh L 4-4
at Washington W 5-4 something bothers me about this game and I dont know why
vs San Diego L 5-5
vs N.Y. Giants L 5-6
at Kansas City L 5-7 KC plays T-O-P game and we lose by a kick
at Indianapolis L 5-8 Indy gets solid near the end of the season (barring injury)
vs Oakland W 6-8 We dig deep after en embarrassing loss in the 4th Q in first match up
at Philadelphia W 7-8 B Dawk and Champ kill em
vs Kansas City W 8-8 McD figures them out this time
We lose division to SD 11-5 or 10-6ish and miss the playoffs. Im thinking we could go 7-9 to 9-7 range but most likely 7-9. Depends on draft and acquisitions. We should do this again right before the season starts.
NOTE: I reserve the right to adjust this some based on draft outcome :D
huh?
@NY
@Pitt
@Dallas
@Tenn
@Cleveland late (hey maybe man-gina gets something togeather)
Splitting One each probably Den, KC, Oak, (it's usually inevitable no matter who is really better)
That would seem like a far tougher schedule than ours, and they have had another year for Norv to "work his magic"

Denver will likely go 5-11. Don't forget, the Broncos are a team that went 3-6 after the bye week last year. This included a 4 game losing streak and an embarassing 31-10 loss at home to the Raiders.
You might start out 2-0, but I wouldn't be surprised to see you go on a 9 game losing streak in weeks 3 thru 12.
There is going to be a lot of finger pointing going on during that stretch. And, you know what, it won't be McD's fault or the fact that Cutler was traded.....it's just a brutal stretch against some tough opponents.

Odd that the first two games are still TBD on the schedule. What's the hold-up? Given, they're just preseason (and hopefully they'll be scrubbed down to two total games by 2010), but what the heck is the hold-up on getting the fans those start times?
Oh, and the San Diego fan who posted directly above me can choke on a salami.

if we reach the playoffs, Mcdaniels deserves C.O.Y.
If we have a seven game skid, he should be fired.

NFL was actually easy on us. Gave us a few easier games to start and not as hard in december. If we can go 3-0 1st three weeks, we have a chance of gaining some confidence and stealing some games in week 4-10. If we areanything near 6-4 after week 11, We will be in the playoffs.
Well I sad if we were 6-4 after week 11, we would be in the playoffs. Well we already got the 6 wins, so as far as my spring prediction everything else now is a bonus.
Its interesting to go back and see everyones predicitions when the schedule was released during McJaygate.
