After looking at Mike Mayock, Kiper, McShay, and Lombardi's analysis of our picks and watching film on them from the combine and in college I am overall happy with our picks. I wanted Moreno at 18 and Ayers at 12 but that became a moot point after we got them in reverse order. I think that Ayers is going to be an absolute monster for us as a versatile rush OLB/DE hybrid coming off the edge. Mayock had him rated as the top DE in the draft ahead of Tyson Jackson and as the 3rd best player overall. Watching the coverage on NFL network, they said that in three years Ayers may go down as the best defensive player in the entire draft and have the biggest impact, especially with Nolan utilizing him in many different ways. Moreno now makes Orton's job easier and is compared as a mix between Adrian Peterson and Brian Westbrook. Mayock had him rated as the best RB and the 4th best draft prospect. He is a very instictive runner who has great hands out of the backfield and isn't afraid to get his nose dirty and block. The trade for Alphonso Smith seems to be partly financially motivated so we don't end up having to pay for 4 first rounders in the next two years. Even so, he was rated as the best ballhawk in the whole draft and one of only three players to have 20 or more INT in his college career. McBath and Quinn were both reaches in my mind and we could have done better drafting players such as Gilbert, Sean Smith, William Moore, or Cody Brown. Hopefully in day 2 we can trade into the 3rd round and possibly draft Michael Johnson, Gilbert, or Sidbury to fill in the front 7 in the 3-4. Mayock has been scouting players for over 20 years and he usually is right when it comes to evaluating players. After all, if you check his ratings last year, he correctly predicted Matt Ryan to be a star from the get-go along with Jake Long and others. Now lets hope that Ayers turns into our Shawn Merriman clone, wreaking havoc on the likes of Matt Cassel and Phillip Rivers twice a year. Should also be fun watching our revamped secondary create turnovers and confusing Jamarcus Russell as he heaves wobbling throws to Heyward-Bey that he either drops or are underthrown. GO BRONCOS 2009 AND BEYOND!!

And here is a good read from today's Denver Post describing Ayers and Mayock:

Good Post

After doing some more research on Quinn and my belief that Scheffler might be traded tommorow(my guess Buffalo for a 3rd Rounder) , Denver has done a good job.

Here is my grades.

Knowshon Moreno = A He is part L.T. part T.D.

Robert Ayers = A- I hope Mayock is right and he turns into Shawn Merriman

Smith = B hard to argue with 20 INT's

McBath = B a little high but I have liked him for a while

Quinn = B I think Denver lets Graham go in 2010.

The guy in that article who is assuming that the Broncos are expecting him to be their rushbacker is kind of clueless if you ask me. They already have that guy in Dumervil. Ayers was drafted as an all-around OLB.

That said, Ayers has the raw physical ability to be an all-around guy who also gets double digit sacks.

One of the pressers had McD saying he wants to utilize all 3 TEs in different situations. So Scheff could be staying put?

Maybe.

I think he said that in case Scheffler doesn't get traded. He's trying to prevent another disgruntled player since he messed up with Cutler.

Plus, he's not going to say anything else. Imagine if he did. :P

"We now have 2 good tight ends. Both can block and catch well. That other guy is as good as gone. Who wants a receiving tight end in my system anyways? Not me."

The draft is really good up to pick 3. After that you have reaches and you gave up the number 1 pick for us next year which probably will be a top five pick. Honestly Seattle didnt need to take a QB this year because they will have their choice of a much better class of QB's next year with our pick. Last I checked when you win 4 games your pick is usually high the next year.
