In almost every sport the speed of the game or something has left the officials in the dust. I am very tired of seeing big games decided by bad officiating. The general rule that a player or team must play above the bad calls and take all opportunities to out right win the game is noble....but it doesn't work in championships when both teams are already doing that.

Solution?
Better analysis of how officials should be positioned and focus - not getting caught up in the excitement of a play or events. (Professionalism) Issue fines and make public all official mistakes.
Increase the number of officials as neccessary.
Get out of the way (pride) of modern technology that would tremendously help. Learn the best way to apply it / use it. When it's obvious to 1 million fans in five seconds how may I ask can they get it wrong after taking over two minutes on a replay?
Be consistant one team to the other / one game to another. Do something!!!!

Sounds like an arm chair official right.....sorry, 20 year sports official. Getting it right is the important thing!

It's very hard to see mistakes made without any corrections. I love it when a bad call is made, officials get together, and then overturn the original call because one of them saw definative evidence to overturn. This is something most sports are working on, we've seen officiating make progress. When the NFL started doing the official reviews, what a break through. It's unfortunate how long it takes these processes to be implemented in most cases, it's just something that we as fans and the players and teams have to go along with.

The only sport I really have a problem with is the NBA. I think NFL and MLB officials do a great job.

i just get irritated at basketball officiating. They are GROWN men and they can take a little tap on their arms.. I can understand if it affects their shot but cmon!!!!

You gotta set the bar somewhere... How could you properly gage a little tap vs. a decent tap??? This would just cause more room for bad calls.... the rules are good, the calls need to be addressed.

Basketball looks the worse because of 2 reasons...

1) Unlike a strike or ball in baseball, the effect of the call can literally effect the outcome of a game. Thus meaning that call will be viewed, reviewed, and rereviewed
by the fans because they can.

2) Unlike football and baseball (bases) the viewpoint of the refs in basketball is
often blocked from a clear view. Calls are made around groups of people and
hand placement is judged from the other side of guys bodies. Nothing is better
than a fould being called by a guy standing behind a player completely shielded
from it all...

As I type I saw #2 in action, the ref in the Orlando Cleveland game had a bad angle
to see Dwight Howard run through Delonte West to chase down a loose ball. No
call was made, and it will make a huge difference.
