I was just looking at the future FA list on walterfootball.com. According to it, b-marsh isn't our only worry next season.
1: ben hamilton
2: chris kuper
3: brandon Marshall
4: tony scheffler
5: Kyle orton
6: Elvis dumervil
And who knows if weigman will retire after the season or not. I'm a meat and potatoes guy. Id rather see kuper and Hamilton get extentions than b-marsh. It's nothing against Marshall, but it's much easier to find a trouble making thousand yard receiver than it is to find an O-line that only allows 12 sacks in a season. Just ask Marvin Lewis. However, if we lose one of the lineman, let's just hope that k-lich and Seth olsen will be able to step up.
Not to mention if orton does a decent job this year and wants a huge contract. All of these things, plus what ends up happening with the cba could drastically change this team

as of right now i belive with no CBA in place Kuper, Dumervil and marshall are possibly restricted FA's.
However if they do become Fa's
I would imagine priority will go to Orton(if he does well) Kuper, Dumervil and Sheffler.
i would imagine they could just franchise marshall next year as well if they want.
unless hamilton takes a pay cut i doubt he returns....

Wiegmann signed a two year extension, I have to imagine he's going to play two more years and then hang em up. You'd think that would be a key part of the contract negotiations.
As for Hamilton, I think he's done after this season. He's undersized for McD's type of pulling OG, plus he has the concussion issue from two years ago, and that's on top of his age. I don't see us resigning him, I also don't see him as that big of a loss as he's the weakest link on our O-line.
Now, Chris Kuper, I believe will be the priority, outside of Orton. He's nearing Pro Bowl level already, he's basically our 2nd string Right Tackle as well, and he's only getting better. He also has the size and athleticism McD wants at OG. Kuper is a priority extension.
Obviously, I agree that Orton will be a priority resign. I don't think he'll cost a bundle either. He should show some ability this year in our system, but he won't be elite. We'll be able to sign him to a favorable contract if we choose.
After Orton and Kuper, I think everyone else is replaceable. Scheffler doesn't fit the NE style of Tight End. I'm sure we'll make the best use of him this season, but I don't think he's in the long term plans, especially with Quinn around. Dumervil will probably price himself out of our contract range, and a 4-3 team will certainly pay him. How he performs in the 3-4 could change things of course, but he's already losing his job to Ayers. As for Marshall, meh, what can you say? Great talent, bad person. Not the type of player McD wants. Right now we can't get good value for him, but if he plays this season and lights it up and stays out of trouble, I think we'll trade him next offseason when his value is rebounded. I don't see anyway Marshall remains in Denver long term.
One thing to keep in mind is that Vince Wilfork looks like he might not get extended by the Pats, thus becoming a Free Agent. If that happens, he has to go to the top of the list of priorities.

I am not to bothered about Hamilton going as i like the guard we drafted in Seth Olsen. As for Orton i am still not happy with him as the starter would rather see us give the job to Brandstater see what he can do

couldn't agree more, except the part about Scheffler. I think that is accurate for now, but he very well might be a bigger part of the game plan then we know. I think his future is still up in the air and will depend on how well he does this year, especially his blocking. I read somewhere earlier this offseason that he has been working on his strength and blocking a lot in the offseason and may do much better than in years past especially if he remains injury free for the first time.

GIVE the job to brandstater? an unproven 6th rounder? id much rather see orton under center this season, 18 TDs vs. 12 INTs with less than mediocre receivers and a o line that folded like cardboard against average pass rushes. he deserves a shot even though I dont think anyone can see him in the pro bowl

All am saying is Orton is never going to put up numbers like Brady did in 2007 or like Cassell did in 2008 in the same system. For one he does not have the ability to throw off his back foot and in this system you have to be able to that. He choses awful throwing lanes to aim for. He is really bad under pressure (I know we have a way better Line then Chicago but how many times did Cutler move to bye some time to make the throw, Orton will not do that as he likes the footwork and overall speed). I am not one of those guys he misses Cutler i thought it showed how much of a cry baby he is when he was traded. As for given Brandstater the job i think we should we all have seen what Orton and Simms have done in there careers and it is not got except Ortons winning percentage which is more down to the team then him.

How have we seen what he could do??? He started his rookie due to injury then 2 years on the bench then took over the starting job from a 1st round pick last yerar. They had no receivers and a crappy Oline and he still threw for 3000 yards. The bears #1 receiver was Forte, the #2 was a TE, Hester, a converted DB now a WR was the #3 receiver. How has he shown what he is capable of? Orton may turn out to be terrible, he may turn out to be a pro-bowler. We won't know that until the regular season starts and we see him play. Personally I think he is going to be just fine in this system even if "he can't throw off his back foot" which you claim to be a necessity. My prediction is 3000 yards, 20 TDs, 10 INTs.

I'd like us to sign Kuper and keep Marshall. I think if Dummervil and Scheff don't pan out in the system, we would get a some compensatory picks because I think they would excel in different systems.
Hamilton is old and expendable.
