View Full Version : Stopping the fullback/halfback dumps

Ok whenever I'm at a party I usually manage to play a round of Madden with one of my buds who has the Xbox 360. Anyways he's a really good bud of mine but he is the gayest ever in playing this. Usually he picks plays where the halfback/fullback go left and right and he immediately just throws it to them before my linebacker or corners can get there and he gains at least 5 yards each time. By the end of the game his fullback will usually have over 100 yards receiving with the halfback probably getting around 60 yards.
How the hell do I stop that? And also how the hell do I stop him from nano blitzing me? Bleh as you can see I don't play live.

Flat zones with DE's (or OLB's in a 3-4) should reduce the gain to 2 or 3 yards
tops.
Even flat zones with CB shouldn't allow for 5 yards unless he breaks a tackle
which is easily done with RBs and FBs.
Velcro 9, while only rushing two people, is a very useful play in this situation
but you can't overdo it or he'll see you only blitz two guys.
You can also just go to a player, DE or OLB, and hit "x" (maybe a on the 360?)
and change his assignment to the flat zone.
If don't like to sacrafice blitzers for coverage that often you can try changing
the D-line alignment to spread and an outside rush? The DE's/OLB's might be far
enough outside to stop the play.
* To stop nano blitzing, WR screens, lots and lots of them.

Whats weird is, every year I can only do a few sets of plays that work, I have not completed a long bomb on anyone, computer or person since like 2006 :( in this years I run a lot of HB screens, and sometimes I will just audibly my HB to run like a skinny post type route and it worls 9/10 unless they shade me or cover me personally...I dunno, I suck so...I have no advice, leaving guys in the flat can help cover that too

Learn to use the 1-5-5 defense. Lots of good flats plays in there. Also, try to pick up his tendencies. Use your defensive cam and use the LB that covers the HB. I find that human on human one can normally defend against dump passes this way. Good luck.

Whats weird is that is easily my biggest strength in Madden... Pump Faking will get the CB to bite a lot of the time, leaving you 1 on 1 with the safety.
Having a big receiver like B-Marsh, Fitzgerald, Megatron, Moss, and Owens will also makes things that much easier when it comes to the deep ball. Its nearly impossible to completer 60 yard bombs to the little guys.
Hope this helps!:salute:

And then beat him up.
 Every single time his fullback lights it up for more then 20 yards that's exactly what I call him.
Then I punch his arm really hard.
