i know in this thread i'll get the so famously cliche "I've played Madden football for 14 years" I used to be a hardcore madden fan until this year until someone could step up. Sega did a really really great job with espn 2k5,now when i play madden it just seems so boring and dull and unpolished. The whole bruno talk show gets old after 10 minutes. Sega really boosted their franchise when they tagged the ESPN. I love the crib stuff in espn too, once again madden has nothing like that they have madden cards. what do you guys think?

Madden NFL 2005 and ESPN NFL 2k5 are both great games. You will Never ever again find that kind of caliber game for its $20.00 price. The graphics in 2k5 are smoothed out and seem more flashy then simular graphics that had once made Madden famous, but now could be getting old. Madden's graphics dont max up to Sega's NFL 2k5, however there gamplay still has an edge. Running in 2k5 seems robotic while Maddens running game could be seen as over realistic with any little twitch of the joystick making diferent leg movements.
Both games are great. MAdden wins out. Not only does its new defensive features give it a boast, becuase "defense wins championships" but also becuase gamplay is the name of the game. Graphics are sweat but they arent everything.
Madden NFL 2005-****1/2 stars out of 5 // Why not perfect- Not enough offensive improvement. Lack of major graphic improvement.
NFL ESPN 2k5-**** stars out of 5 // Why not perfect- Gameplay must be smoother. (especially running). Defense needs more options now that Madden has stepped it up.

ESPN has the same features as Madden on the defensive side of the ball
Playmaker tackles
Madden has- Hit Stick
ESPN has- Maximum Tackle
^Same thing...
Defensive adjustments
They both have the same thing. You can choose a LB to blitz if he's not, you can QB Spy, and say you have a safety in a zone and Champ is lined up against Marvin Harrison- if you still don't feel comfortable you can put that zoned safety on Harrison too for a double coverage. You can do all this in both games before the snap.
Offensive pluses
I love Maddens playmaker control, that has taken over- last years game was awesome just with that.
Now ESPN has a thing called the QB evade where you just move the right analog stick and the Quarterback will either break out of a sack or if your scrambling or rolling and there an offensive linemen in front of you, you can do a sharpe spin or juke around the linemen. That is one of the best things in ESPN...
Gameplay is the same for me. Maddens running is better, yes, but once you get used to ESPNs runningstyle about 2 weeks of playing you barely notice it.
Another thing I love about ESPN is that you can choose celebrations after the touchdown, that is awesome also. You can also rip songs onto your Xbox(Xbox version only) and play custom music after a TD or INT or a big play, another awesome feature.
Although Maddens franchise seems more in depth with the new storyline central and last years owners box I have to say that they get real boring fast. The newspaper has the same articles in it over and over again, and the owners box is just boring after 2 seasons or so. And plus, ESPN has ESPN.com which is just like storyline central and like I said before owners box gets boring. I had to restart my franchise 4 times in last years madden because I went bankrupt from ownersbox.
I also like Maddens draft better, but what it's only a draft nothing special. You pick players where you need help at. And on ESPN- the way Mel Kiper Jr. comes on in the offseason and talks about the draft picks gives you more of a feel for who you are gonna pick. By listening to him I picked a WR who is an 81 overall and the WR is a stud- I also picked up a SS who is an overall 76 in the 3rd round. And an OLB who is a 64 who I picked up in the 5th round. The Mel Kiper Jr. feature is awesome.
Then on ESPN you have the crib which is much better than Madden cards because you can interact with it. Like Air hockey, or paper football, with madden cards you just buy them and unlock cheats that you can use in the game- real fun:rolleyes:.
And theres not difference between Sportcenter and EA Sports radio. Except you get to see highlights from the games on Sportcenter, another plus. And during the offseasons sportcenters they talk about retirements and as I mentioned before Mel Kiper takes the draft and actually gets you excited for it.
The only thing that ESPN can't touch is training camp I LOVE THAT!
But, I still like ESPN much more than Madden but thats just me.

I actually put in ESPN last night and let the CPU play itself. BRONCOS & CHIEFS btw, and after playing Madden I was blown away by the graphics in ESPN all over again. I still hate the way the players run in ESPN, especially when the QBs scramble since they don't tuck the ball, and OVERALL I think Madden is still better.
I REALLY had high hopes for ESPN, but they still messed up some stuff-basic stuff- that nearly every other football game on the market gets right like helmets and facemasks, but it let me down. For $20 it's a damn good game, but Madden plays soooo much better and the running game is more realistic. Also, I'm tired of getting nailed waaay before the ball gets to my receiver in ESPN only for the refs to be looking the other way.
