I got like a 70 yard TD pass once in All-Pro. Got lucky though...

What I did was send out 5 WR in Shotgun. They were in Nickel so they had 1 Linebacker. So I sent a fast WR In motion so the LB would pick him up. The safety was covering another reciever so I just bombed it out there to the WR with the LB covering him, they had no chance...

Hope this makes sense.

The most effective method of getting long completions is play action and alternately using other reciever routes as clearouts. manipulating the actual throw with the directional pad is also essential, as is the QB's actual motion..ie: how his body is traveling as he makes the throw.

Throws can be articulately manipulated with the assistance of the directional pad. To the outside shoulder, short of him to a spot, lead him to the sideline...etc. etc. It is a virtual science.

Matchups are key, as well.

I just got Madden. So you can control where the ball is being thrown w/ the pad? I tried w/ r-analog so figured it didnt have it

Can you recommend a site to view these tips at?

Guys:

I play it on PS2. To utilize and develop all the skills I spoke of, do the minicamp passing drill over and over until you get Gold on all of them. Repeating these drills will force you to develop the articulate touch on the directional pad when making the throw.

For instance: if you stand in one spot and throw a bullet and push right on the directional pad at the same instant, the pass will go to the right of the reciever. Push down and it will throw short. Push on a diagonal plane and it will go to the shoulder. The relative motion of the QB at the time of the throw will affect every single aspect of the tips I just spoke of.

When throwing timing patterns, try it out. If your guy is running a 10 yard hook to the right, roll to the right, time the release before the reciever comes out of his break and throw it full force (bullet) and push downward and right on the directional pad at the time of the release. Repeat this and alternate which directions you apply to the pad at the time of the throw. These techniques apply to every kind of throw you make: lobs, bullets, intermediate throws on a line...take into account the motion of your QB. The best way to make throws is to take advantage of the techniques that a QB uses in real life. If you have a number of short routes, take a three step drop and then half a step forward and make your throw. Deep routes, find space...roll out and take a couple of steps forward for deep throws. Quick throws, take a half a step back and fire a bullet to an area of the recievers' body.

Repeating this over and over will give you the understanding of the actual characteristics of the passing game. My advice: do the mincamp drills...go right to all madden..it will demand you make the most difficult throws. Do it until you get Gold everytime.

Once you master the these subtle skills you will have a full understanding of just how advanced the passing on the game really is.

Right now I'm busy setting back to back single game rushing records with Tatum Bell. :D

I think it's time to bump up the skill level to All Madden. :p

Practice mode is a big help at advancing your skills, as well.

Here's another tip: play an entire game without ever running the ball. Try to throw on every down. It will force you to be exceedingly effecient, if you want to win. The same rings true for the running game. Try playing a game where you never pass the ball. The harder the level, the more your skills will have to develop in order to achieve success.

I just got '05 last Saturday and I just set back to back single game rushing records with Tatum Bell on All Pro. So, it's time to bump it up for my next season.

I love rushing. If you guys wanna talk defense, or any other aspect of the game, let me know. I love the new hit stick, it's great. I have figured out some great defensive techniques that are effective as well.

I have the number one overall defense and the number one rushing and scoring d, the number one rushing offense and I am currently 10-0 in my first season. I play 10 minute quarters on the accelerated clock on All Pro. But like I said, it's time for All Madden.

Isn't the regular passing mode (different button for each reciever) better? With directional the computer might consider a different player to be closer to that spot than you do. For a big pass play the ideal formation is is the normal I or splitbacks.Get the defense to go into man coverage and sub your fastest reciever (Lelie) to the FB spot.Make the WR and the TE run curls and send the "FB" up the field. This will cause a LB to cover your fastest guy.Actually Champ is ideal for this. Also make sure you wait for your C to start pointing before you snap the ball(he's pointing out blocking assighnments and it gives you much better pritection which will give your "FB" enough time to get up the field).:)

Bomb it to Lelie, works a heckuva alot.

In ESPN (haven't tried it in Madden yet but I'm sure it'd be just as effective, especially against a human opponent) is that I call one play that is a playaction. Before the play I'll have one receiver running a fly/streak-route. The other receiver I move into motion; just to get the other player thinking. Then when I hike it I fake-hand it off; then fake-pump-pass to the non-streaking receiver. This will usually draw off the corner covering the fly-route runner just enough to where you can bomb it right into their hands. However in ESPN if there's some safety help the pass completion rating for this pass will plummet.

Passing in Madden I have found to be really easy; just bomb it, really, but don't have everything going out, you gotta have a mix of routes going everywhere and one going straight out (and maybe a post with him to draw off the safety).

i was playing 04 online today and randy moss got wide open every time; he'd be 10 yards behind a prevent defense. so my passing tip is to get randy moss.

The AI is pretty damn smart in Madden, its hard to break a long pass. (assuming you play on All-pro or all madden) I usually just go with a series of medium slant routes out of bounds when I need to cover ground quickly. Bombing it can work sometimes especially against teams like the colts or chiefs who don't have CBs worth mentioning. Playaction against them and shoot it out to the WR before the CB has time to recover, the lower the awareness of the CB the easier it is to do. I tried using that directional passing tech RBD, works nicely, gives you more room to get the ball out. Thanks for the tip.

You just have to mix up the play and give the defense a ton of different looks. I usually find a way to get Lelie on the weakest corner and then just shell it out to him. Works quite a bit but an above-average-hitting safety can ruin any long throw; or a fast one ruin your offense with an INT.

You could also do screens which work every so often in ESPN (I haven't even tried them in Madden as of yet).
