View Full Version : Survivor: Palau (Possible voting spoilers)

Well, it's about that time again. Time for some more Survivor!! This version looks like the usual fair although the producers insist that they're gonna really change it up. They need to. The last few Survivor's have been excruciatinly predictable. And the Power players getting knocked off early while the "under the radar" players winning the million is getting pretty cliche. They really need to do something to change that up.
Here's the synopsis from the Official Website (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor10/).
Twenty Americans are stranded in Palau, the South Pacific paradise some call the 8th natural wonder of the world, where colorful wildlife, dense jungles and an underwater world beyond belief are haunted by the wreckage and remnants of World War II. From the beginning, the game will be changed in a dramatic way: everything the Survivors have come to expect will be wiped out in the first 10 minutes. Who will outwit, outplay, and outlast all others in Palau? Get to know the new Survivors now, and don't miss a single episode of SURVIVOR: PALAU, premiering Thursday, February 17 at 8 pm ET/PT, only on CBS.
Once again I'll ask everyone not to spoil episodes that haven't been aired yet. Some Mountain and West Coast people may get spoiled by east coast/Central people. I guess you'll just have to avoid this thread untill you've seen the show. I'll try to post the results of every tribal council after it airs typically 7pm Central.
I'm just trying to avoid spoilers for upcoming weeks including the final four and sole survivor ect ect. I'd like this to be a season long discussion with honest speculation and predictions if at all possible.
So with that out of the way, are the any predictions for the upcoming season? Thoughts? Anyone your rooting for?

Survivor (along with all of it's spin-off bastard children) are the biggest waste of television ever thought of.
Like I stated before....the only reality tv show that was even remotely close to reality was Seinfeld.

Well, Survivor is more of a game show (with the prize being a million dollars) than a reality show. It certainly played that card at first but honestly it's pure game show. There are rules, an objective and prize money. Personally, I like to see people starve and go at each others throats then see some nerd answer a bunch of questions but that's just me.

See, if they'd have just gone with the whole "game-show" premise to begin with, people wouldn't have this beef with it that I do. All of these other shows that it spawned are the same as well. They should all be labeled game-shows because none of it is every day reality, I mean random people don't just decide to go to some island for what is it, 40 days or 3 months or whatever it is just to see if they can survive....that's not reality.
So good point. I just hate that they label it reality tv, when it couldn't be farther from it.
It's not like the "game-show" label would have hurt them, game shows have sort of died out and perhaps that could have sparked a bit of a come back. You still only hear about Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune as the most famous ones...you have to go to late night cable to find other random game-shows.

In a sense it is somewhat reality in that the show is unscripted. Even quiz show type game shows are scripted to a degree. I think TV should provide a new label for these "reality" shows. Call em unscripted shows.
Of all the shows out there the Real World on TV was probably closest to reality TV. If anything Road Rules probably spawned all these "reality" game shows, it just took a couple of years before anyone in mainstream TV decided to clone Real World/Road Rules.

The challenges and the twists in the game are scripted.
The individual rules for a particular Survivor are laid out before hand. The interactions between the contesants in any game show are rarely scripted.

(SPOILERS BELOW)
Wanda, Jonathan and Jolanda!!!
Well, that was interesting first episode that seemed to throw alliances back and forth every 5 minutes. I think confusion was the theme here. I thought it was gonna start out as 2 tribes on the same beach for awhile but then they split em up to do the usual.
I knew Wanda was gone from the get-go. What a nut-bag! Survivor tip number 1. Don't start off the first day being the weirdo. It has been known to be the deciding factor in past Survivors. Coby and Angie were lucky that they really weren't the weirdest ones there!
I'm not really pulling for anyone at this point. That Ashlee girl looks like she might have some boobage.

And what about the winning tribe?
I thought them sinking their firebox was pretty funny myself. Why in the hell did the want to Trek to a new island? Did the think the were on Let's make a Deal and that there would be mansion there or something? This is Survivor! I think it's funny that they picked a crappy site too.

I've never watched reality TV, but if these guys are being left for dead on the island, I might check out a few episodes, not tonight though, I've already got plans to watch "Alexander", this is it's last night in threaters around here...at the $3 theater too. Maybe next week though...or do they show them on other days of the week?

Ashlee!!
Well, a huge head and a huge rack could not save her from the vote. I'm wondering why the choose to off her and not break up the Kim and Jeff alliance. There has to be some other connections there. Bobby Jon didn't really want to break them up. Maybe he's in a alliance with them.
Also, I am very suprised that the other tribe was able to get their fire box. I thought that was gone for sure. Good job outta them.

If I was on Survivor,. I would force myself to get voted off first. Everyone gets prize money, and they have to keep the losers in a secluded location before the final episode's released. Most likely it's a big fancy hotel.

Yes, that's correct.
They go to a "fancy" hotel at a secure loaction. However, since they have to stay kinda close to the shooting area, the "fancy" hotel is limited to region. I'm sure it's much better than sleeping on a beach though.

Jeff! Well, I was wrong. I thought he was going to say and Kim was going to go. He could contribute more than her even though he's injured but if some asks to be off, it's too tempting to not vote them off.
And How about those challenges?
Wow, those were probably the two best back to back challenges I ever seen. They were both extrememly fun to watch and very brutal. Especially that immunity challenge. That looked like it could have taken energy out of someone for the whole game.
I'm really starting to like this season.

Willard and Angie!
Holy ****! What a crazy episode! In a bizaare twist of events, Ibrahem gets a a sympathy immunity from the opposing tribe!! Lucky for him because he was clearly a target if not THEE target. I think him being on the verge of tears actually saved his hide. Wow! What a crazy game this has become! I'm really liking this season so far. Lot's of interesting twists. Still Kuror maybe even stronger now. They better mix it up soon or they'll just pick off Ulong at the merge. What was with Stephanie voting for Bobby Jon? I thought she'd vote for James for sure. Hmmm, something else going on there?

In some challenges yes but not all.
No Merge. I am stunned.
Stephanie is a tribe of one!!!
I hope she kicks all of Kuror's asses!
Bobby Jon may have been great at camp but he seemed to be a liability in the challenges.
It's so crazy how Kuror hasn't lost an immunity yet. Stephanie should rename her tribe from Ulong to "My sweet ass is gonna whip yours".

Fair shmair... if they wanted it to be fair they shouldn't have lost so many immunities... plus it is unfair to Koror if they did it that way... What are they going to say, "Ibreham was voted off last time so Koror you have to have a woman compete against Steph." You'd be limiting the teams choices by who is remaining on the opposing tribe. If they wanted to be fair they should have meged them weeks ago... As it is now 9 people are left, 7 jurors & 2 final survivors.

I am glad Bobby Jon is gone. When he lost the challenge last night to Tom he was really pissed off. Then to watch him with the macheti, well that man was a little scary. Maybe they would have won that challenge if he hadn't mad a pig of himself and stuffed 3 Baluga egg in his mouth at once. He couldn't even swallow never mind chew. Stef is a power house on her own. When she was describing Bobby Jon and his "snot rockets" it made me nearly loose my supperbut it was pretty funny. Even if it was just groose. Maybe next week they will merge and then again maybe since they are doing everything so diff on this show they will keep going if she wins an ammunity challenge and starts to knock off the other tribe. Who knows but I love this show. :goofy:

I just saw Bobby Jon on Survivor Live and he's quite the gentlemen once he's taken out of the element. I guess he lost something like 20 lbs! I can beleive it. It didn't seem like they were eating much at all over at Ulong. Kuror on the other hand has probably eaten more than I have in that same amount of time. Tom has to have the biggest target on him as anyone as had in the game. He's super strong, relatively smart and real nice guy. The one thing he may lack is his strategy is not as strong as his other parts (or at least it appears that way). All that adds up to him having a huge target. He needs to establish some hard core alliances or he's done. Everyone knows he can run the table on the challenges.

I guess he shouldn't have thought twice before jumping for the donuts!! I was suprised to see Steph jump off. She kinda showed her alliance with Tom by doing that. ok, i think i'm becoming the official "unfair competition" person . . . but in that immunity challenge did it not seem like the one side of the bars went under water first? seems to me the girls should have been able to get their faces higher in the bars than the guys - but either they just quit trying or physically went under a full couple minutes prior the ppl on the other end. and it seems a bit weird that everyone on the right side went out first and the last 2 left were the furthest left.

Janu!!
Yeah, she was pretty much a worthless turd anyway. It's funny cause in the past few Survivor's these worhtless turds would make it all the way to the end. The mentality of this Survivor is decided different though. It looks like Tom is going to run the table. There simply isn't anyone that can challenge him. How bout Jeff and his comments at the immunity challenge? I like how he called out the tribe for dissin Janu. Saying that the were treating it like an open mic. That was pretty funny.
Wow, and Steph's water works really seem to pay off. I don't know how planned all that was. Whether Jeff kinda directed the questions to go into that direction, but it was very dramatic and quite a turn of events.

i loved it when jeff called them out on that! it was pretty rude the way they just busted out laughing at her and then they were all like "no, not true at all" when jeff first pointed it out.
i kinda think jeff intentionally pushed janu to do that at the tribal meeting - he knows what is good tv . . . no one is going to tune in to watch janu slowly waste away, but a lot of people are going to be pulling for steph so keeping her on longer will help ratings. plus, you've just got to pull for her.

thats true, tom did have the special technique. but it still seemed like their end was above water longer.
from the "scenes from next week" it looks like steph finaly starts playing the game a bit . . . that might just end up with her going home anticlimatically, but perhaps she'll start a coup and sent tom packing.

We had "Survivor" over here in the U.K. If I remember correctly it only lasted one series (perhaps 2)as it wasn't very popular with viewers. It was replaced by a celebrity version of the series called "I'm a Celebrity get me out of here". That's been a big success and raises a lot of money for charity. Last series there were a couple of Americans among the 10 "celebrities" on the programme. Huggy Bear - remember him off the Starsky and Hutch series was one of them, the other a female soul singer from the 70s which I can't remember her name.

Looks like alot of drama next week. Ian and Katie going at it with tears. I think Ian needs to drop her. She's completely worthless and is just a coat-tail rider. She hasn't done anything in camp. She's still fat on day 30! I just got done watching Survivor Outback and they were all skinney as hell by the time day 30 rolled around. It doesn't look like Katie has lost a pound. i just got to watch the episode last night b/c i had an exam yesterday morning. i was thinking the girls would be smart to join together at this point. 3-2. jen would have to go for it, katie already has planned to jump, but i karen might hesitate. at first glance that would be idiotic for karen but then again, if she can get to the final 3 with tom and ian i can see either of those guys taking her to the final 2 so they can win easily. i doubt ian and tom are going to stick together when it comes down to the $ - they seem professional enough about the game not to do that. since she doesn't know about the ian-katie bond sticking with ian and tom might be better for karen then going all girl. however, if the goal is to win more than make it to the final 2, karen would be better off going all girl - less of a chance to get to the final 2, but her only chance to win it all.
what a great plan to force katie to stick with them. great move.

I bet you she's never won a case.
lol.
i was surprised ian got so sad about katie . . . considering she knocked him out of the reward challenge the day before. i don't see any difference in knocking someone out of the challenge and not choosing them if you win. be a man ian.
kinda sad they didn't give tom a corvette too like they have in the past. but not too much b/c tom annoys me just a little bit for some unknown reason.
i can't imagine ian going against katie after all that. that's got to hurt his ability to work with tom.

Usually it's 2 cars that suck though.
This time instead of 2 sucky cars they bought 1 cool car.

I was glad to see that Tom won. It was good to see someone who was so dominant in the challenges win this thing, instead of the "coattail rider" that flys under the radar to win.
And what about Ian volunatarily taking himself out of the game when he was that close. I don't know what to think about that. On the one hand, it's Survivor and that kind of foolish, but on the other hand, you have to admire a person who would put his friendships ahead of $1,000,000.

i also hated that katie, damm im glad she didnt win, she never did a think the whole month, was totaly useless but rode tom and ians tail to the end. she was a very coniving person, when that other guy won the challange and took her she was having a great time, she was also turning on tom and ian. then when ian wins one she throws a big crybaby fit cause he took tom,, OHH how can i trust him again" while she was just the daybefore plotting against him, what a classless chick. then last night she was while tom and ian were fighting it out , she was standing there telling ian how wrong it was to do that to tom, and he should just admit it yet thye day before while tom and ian were a reward she was instigating a plot to take out the guys,," if tom wins we take out ian, if ian wins we take out tom" what a *****
