Here's a stupid question. I got in an argument over this with one of my friends, which lasted about an hour. Tell me what you think.

What if everyone in the world turned homosexual? Would the human race become extinct?

That is a big what if statement. I understand the chances of that happening are very slim to none, but I would like to know you opinion.

My answer is no we wouldn’t.

No, we still have ample medical technology to propogate the race. It's absurd to think we'd go extinct.

Invitro... artifical insemination... not to mention that just because someone is a homosexual doesn't mean they don't want kids. I'm willing to bet that if for no other reason than that, even in a completely homosexual society there would still be sexual interactions between males and females.

If for some reason that did happen I suppose the so-called "test-tube babies" would be our best choice.

That's what I thought, but my friend was like yelling at me, because he truly believed that we would die out.

How old is your friend? He doesn't watch Discoery channel much, does he/she?

He's like 22, I think he was a little too drunk at the time. I just told him that people didn't have to be sexual attractive to each other to have sex. If it came down to it, they would just have sex with their friend.

Well... okay... I think that there might be some cause for the argument that sexual attraction on at least some level must exist for the two to interact (based off my personal experiences).

But that assumes the only way to procreate is by sexual interaction.

I still wouldn't totally buy it though. "They're all Jennifer Hewitt with the lights turned off" and all that.

What I am saying is, if you know that the only way life could continue was to have sex with someone you didn't find sexually attractive, I sure you would take one for the team. That doesn't mean you have to go find a fat nasty person.

Indeed. I don't disagree.

Assuming that they are all homosexuals, meaning no sexual interaction (because otherwise they're not really homosexual), then the only logical choice would be artificial fertilization. Cloning would cause our species to become too homogenous, resulting in susceptibility to disease. I don't believe we would go extinct, but I do believe there would be a much higher vulnerability due to a lowered amount of genetic diversity (selection of "premium" genes regarding looks, intelligence, etc.). Overall, I think that the species would be set up for a massive population drop if some sort of disease were to run through the population and only a few were resistant to it.

I don't think it will be this phenomena that kills us all off.
