Really? If you say you heard it on the radio, I will be shocked.
That whole album sounds much better with a serious sound system, or good heaphones. Those 12 string bass chords get buried otherwise.
That album was a change in sound for them. New producer, very live and raw in the studio. Very bass heavy. I like it, but it took a while to grow on me.
Everybody's gotta elevate from the norm...
The greatest list of music I don't own on CD

Throw some lyrics at me so I can remember how it went, please....I've walked these streets, a loaded six-string on my back, I play for keeps 'cause I might not make it back, I've been everywhere still I'm standin' tall, I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all!!:salute!:

give me a dollar or give me 50 cents
let me take it back if that ain't what I meant
give me a coat or give me a bite
give me a light bulb and make sure it's bright
give me the moon or give me everywhere
give me some powder to spray up in the air (up in the air)
let me take my thoughts away to think about another day
remembering the times I pray to help me deal with me
to be the dogman
give me some attention lend me your ear
give me what to do and get me out of here
give me a book give me something to read
give me a horse race and give me who's the lead
let me take my thoughts away to think about another day
remembering the times I pray to help me deal with me
to be the dogman
all the sleeping never waking all the leaves in need of raking
all the business undertaking all my bones and muscles aching
thoughts and mind are surely flaking over
luncheons hands are shaking
surety of no mistaking cars and horns and glass is breaking
give me a color make it black or white
give me a newspaper tell me if it's right
give me a nail or give me a bat
give me a skinny or give me a fat
remembering the times I pray to let me take mythoughts away
to think about another day to help me deal with me
to be the dogman

The best lyrics that I think ever wrote are words we could all live by.
Garth Brooks - We Shall Be Free
This ain't coming from no prophet
Just an ordinary man
When I close my eyes I see
The way this world shall be
When we all walk hand in hand
When the last child cries for a crust of bread
When the last man dies for just words that he said
When there's shelter over the poorest head
We shall be free
When the last thing we notice is the color of skin
And the first thing we look for is the beauty within
When the skies and the oceans are clean again
We shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud
'Cause we shall be free
When we're free to love anyone we choose
When this world's big enough for all different views
When we all can worship from our own kind of pew
We shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Have a little faith
Hold out
'Cause we shall be free
And when money talks for the very last time
And nobody walks a step behind
When there's only one race and that's mankind
Then we shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud, have a little faith, hold out
We shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, have a little faith
We shall be free
-------------------------------------------------
There are many other songs that I could recite but this one takes the prize in my book.
Well done Garth:usa: *** God Bless Our Military Men And Women*** :usa:

BBJ i would have thought you'd have gone with this:
Big Bad John
-Artist: Jimmy Dean
-the # 14 song of the 1960-1969 rock era
-was # 1 for 5 weeks in 1961
-Words and Music by Jimmy Dean
(Big John, Big John)
Ev'ry mornin' at the mine you could see him arrive
He stood six foot six and weighed two forty five
Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip
And everybody knew ya didn't give no lip to Big John.
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
Nobody seemed to know where John called home
He just drifted into town and stayed all alone
He didn't say much, kinda quiet and shy
And if you spoke at all, you just said "Hi" to Big John.
Somebody said he came from New Orleans
Where he got in a fight over a Cajun Queen
And a crashin' blow from a huge right hand
Sent a Loosiana fellow to the Promised Land-Big John
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
Then came the day at the bottom of the mine
When a timber cracked and men started cryin'
Miners were prayin' and hearts beat fast
And everybody thought that they'd breathed their last-'cept John
Through the dust and the smoke of this man-made hell
Walked a giant of a man that the miners knew well
Grabbed a saggin' timber, gave out with a groan
And like a giant oak tree he just stood there alone-Big John
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
And with all of his strength he gave a mighty shove
Then a miner yelled out "There's a light up above!"
And twenty men scrambled from a would-be grave
Now there's only one left down there to save-Big John
With jacks and timbers they started back down
Then came that rumble way down in the ground
And then smoke and gas belched out of that mine
Everybody knew it was the end of the line for Big John
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
Now they never reopened that worthless pit
They just placed a marble stand in front of it
These few words are written on that stand
**At the bottom of this mine lies a BIG BIG man** Big John
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
FADE (Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
**TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: The 45-single version has this line as "At the bottom of this mine
lies a hell of a man."

Now THAT is some quality s**t!!!
If you recall on the "Where did your screen name come from" thread, I mentioned that I was a huge Elway fan and the name came from an old country song...
Thank you very much for this! I owe you points, I gave 'em all out 'till tomorrow, but I won't forget this...Thanks again...I've walked these streets, a loaded six-string on my back, I play for keeps 'cause I might not make it back, I've been everywhere still I'm standin' tall, I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all!!:salute!:

A song can be good without a good lyric, but a perfect song combines both
heres a few:
Bohemian rhapsody - queen
nothing else mathers - metallica
disposable heroes - metallica
rock 'n' roll - led zep
......i could do this all day
"The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends."

thinking about the song "big bad john" reminded me of a couple of other story songs i like:
ODE TO BILLY JOE
(Bobbie Gentry)
© Northridge Music Company / Universal MCA Publishing.
From "Ode To Billy Joe," Bobby Gentry, © 1967, Capitol.
It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day.
I was out chopping cotton and my brother was baling hay.
And at dinnertime we stopped and walked back to the house to eat.
And Mama hollered out the back door "y'all remember to wipe your feet,"
And then she said "I got some news this morning from Choctaw Ridge,"
"Today, Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge."
And Papa said to Mama as he passed around the black-eyed peas:
"Well, Billy Joe never had a lick of sense; pass the biscuits, please."
"There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow."
And Mama said it was a shame about Billy Joe, anyhow.
Seems like nothing ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge.
And now Billy Joe MacAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge.
And brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billie Joe,
Had put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show.
And wasn't I talking to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece of apple pie; you know it don't seem right.
"I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge,
"And now you tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge."
And Mama said to me: "Child, what's happened to your appetite?
"I've been cooking all morning and you haven't touched a single bite.
"That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today.
"Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way.
"He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge.
"And she and Billy Joe was throwing something off the Tallahatchie Bridge."
A year has come and gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe,
And brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo.
There was a virus going 'round, Papa caught it and he died last Spring.
And now Mama doesn't seem to wanna do much of anything.
And me, I spend a lot of time picking flowers up on Choctaw Ridge.
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge.

and another:
16 Tons - Tennesee Ernie Ford
Some people say a man is made outta' mud
A poor man's made outta' muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bones
A mind that's a-weak and a back that's strong
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of number 9 coal
And the store boss said "Well, a-bless my soul"
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin', it was drizzlin' rain
Fightin' and trouble are my middle name
I was raised in the canebrake by an ol' mama lion
Cain't no-a high-toned woman make me walk the line
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
If you see me comin', better step aside
A lotta men didn't, a lotta men died
One fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one don't a-get you, then the left one will
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store.

New blood joins this earth/and quickly he's subdued/through constant pained disgrace/the young boy learns their rules
With time this child draws in/this whipping boy has done no wrong/deprived of all his thoughts/the young man struggles on and on he's known/a vow unto his own/that never from this day/his will they'll take away
What I've felt/what I've known/never shined through in what I've shown/never be/never see/won't see what might have been
What I've felt/what I've known/never shined through in what I've shown/never free/never be/so I dub thee unforgiven
They dedicate their lives to running all of his/he tries to please them all/this bitter man he is/throughout his life the same/he's battled constantly/this fight he cannot win/the tired man they see no longer cares/the old man then prepares to die regretfully/that old man here is me
What I've felt/what I've known/never shined through in what I've shown/never be/never see/won't see what might have been
What I've felt/what I've known/never shined through in what I've shown/never free/never be/so I dub thee unforgiven
You labeled me I'll label you/so I dub thee unforgiven
Unforgiven by MetallicaI've walked these streets, a loaded six-string on my back, I play for keeps 'cause I might not make it back, I've been everywhere still I'm standin' tall, I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all!!:salute!:

Mr. Jimi --- Angel
--- Angel came down from heaven yesterday
She stayed with me just long enough to rescue me
And she told me a story yesterday,
about the sweet love between the moon and the deep blue sea
And then she spread her wings high over me
She said she's gonna come back tomorrow
And I said 'fly on my sweet angel,
fly on through the sky,
fly on my sweet angel,
tomorrow I'm gonna be by your side'
Sure enough this morning came unto me
Silver wings silhouetted against the child's sunrise
And my angel she said unto me
'today is the day for you to ride,
take my hand, you're gonna be my man,
you're gonna ride'
And she took me high over yonder
And I said 'fly on my sweet angel,
fly on through the sky,
fly on my sweet angel,
forever I will be by your side'Last edited by AZ Snake Fan; 05-26-2005, 09:40 PM.

--- Mr. Jimi ---
--- Waterfall
Nothing can harm me at all
My worries seem so very small
With my waterfall
I can see
My rainbow calling me
Through the misty breeze
Of my waterfall
Some people say
Day-dreamings for all the, huh,
Lazy minded fools
With nothin' else to do
So let them laugh, laugh at me
So just as long as I have you
To see me through
I have nothing to lose
'Long as I have you
Waterfall
Don't ever change your ways
Fall with me for a million days
Oh, my waterfallLast edited by AZ Snake Fan; 05-26-2005, 09:41 PM.

--- Moon, Turn The Tides... Gently Gently Away
So down and down and down and down
And down and down we go
Hurry my darling we mustn't be late
For the show
Neptune champion games to an aqua
World is so very dear
Right this way smiles a mermaid
I can hear and man is full of cheer.
That man is full of cheer
I could hear that man is full of cheer
Lord thank youLast edited by AZ Snake Fan; 05-26-2005, 09:42 PM.
