God damn it!!
I was trying to get tickets for Minneapolis and my computer froze.
By the time I rebooted, the tickets were sold out!!!!
 :ugh:
I heard the screenings for the May 5th showing sold out in 4 hours.
Looks like this one is headed that way as well.

I'm feeling sorry for myself now... Oh, and I'm sorry for you guys, too. ;)

Well, I tried to get tickets for three different cities and they all sold out seconds before I could purchase them.
I tried Minneapolis, computer froze, after reboot, tickets were sold out.
Then I tried Kansas City, said tickets were still available, by the time I completed my registration, the tickets were sold out.
I looked at Chicago, but when I refreshed the page, the tickets were sold out.
They just need to release the damn movie already.
Clearly there is an interest.

That sucks, Benny. At least I didn't get my hopes up too much since they all said they were sold out before I could even try to get some. Sorry, bud. :(
It does suck that they've pushed it back to September. I know they didn't want to release too close to Star Wars or during the summer blockbuster season but I think they'd have enough interest to succeed just about any time they wanted to release it. And Septemember is just so freaking far away!!
The Dark Knight

^^^^ Also, there is a chance that the people that are going to see it in September are the only ones that are going to see it anyway so therefore, they might as well show it sooner.
Hopefully that's not the case though and by the time September rolls around there'll be alot more new browncoats!

Come on, it'd only be about $600 plus the movie tickets. Why won't she do it?

Ha Ha
Well, I was just going to drive to Minneapolis, Kansas City or Chicago
It's anywhere between 3-6 hours to drive to those places from Des Moines.
Since the movie was at 10 and would get out after midnight, I was going to book a room in one of those cities as well.
So travel food and lodging would have cost me a little bit of cash. All just to see a movie!!!
I've never been this excitied to see a movie before. Not since Return of the Jedi.

It's a movie based on the canceled tv show Firefly (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000AQS0F/qid=1115672116/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-3732620-3628656?v=glance&s=dvd).
I'm not going to explain it all again so I'll just copy and paste from Amazon.
After you've seen all 14 episodes of Firefly contained in this smartly packaged DVD set, you'll be begging for more. The sad irony is, series creator Joss Whedon's ambitious science-fiction Western (Whedon's third series after Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) was canceled after only eleven of these 14 produced episodes had aired on FOX, and its demise was woefully premature. Whedon's generic hybrid suffered an inaugural setback when network executives preferred an action-packed one-hour premiere ("The Train Job") over the intended two-hour pilot "Serenity" (oddly enough, the final episode aired), which provides a better introduction to the show's concept and splendid ensemble cast. Obsessive fans may debate the quirky, semi-fallible logic of combining spaceships with direct parallels to frontier America (it's 500 years in the future, and embattled humankind has expanded into the galaxy, where undeveloped "outer rim" planets struggle with the equivalent of Old West accommodations), but Whedon and his gifted co-writers and directors make it work, at least well enough to fashion a credible context from the incongruous culture-clashing of past, present, and future technologies, along with a polyglot language (the result of two dominant superpowers) that combines English with an abundance of Chinese slang.
What makes it work is Whedon's delightfully well-chosen cast and their nine subtly-developed characters (a typically Whedon-esque extended family), each providing a unique perspective on their adventures aboard Serenity, the junky but beloved "Firefly-class" starship they call home. As a veteran of the disadvantaged Independent faction's war against the all-powerful planetary Alliance (think of it as Underdogs vs. Overlords), Serenity captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) leads his compact crew on a quest for survival. They're renegades with an amoral agenda, taking any job that pays well, but Firefly's complex tapestry of right and wrong (and peace vs. violence) is richer and deeper than it first appears. By the time we've gathered tantalizing clues about Blue Sun (an insidious mega-corporation with an as-yet mysterious agenda), its ties to the Alliance, and the traumatizing use of Serenity's resident stowaway as a guinea pig in the development of advanced warfare, it's painfully clear that Firefly was heading for exciting revelations that never came to pass. Fortunately, Whedon was developing a Firefly movie as this DVD set was being released in January 2004, so the ultimate fate of Serenity's crew remains to be seen. In the meantime, these 14 episodes (and enjoyable bonus features) offer everything you'd expect from the creator of Buffy: action, drama, humor, hints of romance, suspense, fine acting, film-quality direction, dazzling special effects, and ample proof that Fox made a glaring mistake in canceling the series. --Jeff Shannon
Anyway, DVD sales have been so impressive that a movie was greenlit for release this year. I'ts a damn good show and very well may be the highest rated product on Amazon.com

Best Buy would probably have it at 38-40 dollars.
If your going to get it then I would suggest the Amazon route. It's only 34.99 there and plus you can opt for free shipping.
Check out some of the reviews on Amazon. It has quite a broadbase appeal.

Hey, how's it going?
I'm a big time fan and yeah we have couple more here.
It was canceled because FOX said it didn't get enough viewers. But FOX totally doomed the show from the start. They didn't show the original pilot and opted for "The Train Job" instead. The pilot was essential in introduce the complex world and 9 central characters. The showed other episodes out of order, prempted some for sporting events and didn't advertise it all.
FOX holds the rights to the tv series and they're being ****s about not releasing them. They can hold the rights for the next 10 years. It is highly unlikely that they'll bring the series back now that The movie is being done by Universal. The best case scenairio at this point is that if the movie does well, then the actors are already signed up to do a trilogy. So spread the word and get people in those seats!!

Yea the trailer looks pretty farqin' cool.
I'm in the process of working my way through the DVD set right now.
I guess one can always wish tho. Fox did bring back Family Guy. Maybe if the Movie is successful, and I think the DVD's have been making more bank than expected, there will be a revival attempt.

Perhaps, but now they have to contend with Universal.
Because they'll want a peice of that pie too.
I'd love to see it as a series again, there's just so much more you can do with a series than you can with a 2 hour movie.

Cool, that's a funny episode with some good twists.
Yeah, the mucked up frontier chinese they speak is interesting. Using that in place of expletives and other comments. Even if the audience doesn't know exactly what they said, they get the general idea. It was a brillant add in.

Hey there. I know we already chatted about Firefly but I thought I would chime in here anyway.
In addition to Dark Knight's reason for Firefly getting cancelled, FOX also put the show up against America's Funniest Videos which was still at the top of the television ratings at the time.
So, let's see: Put a brand new show opposite one of the top-rated shows, barely advertise it, skip the pilot episode which introduces all the characters and the situation, air the remaining shows out of order and skip some entirely, preempt the show numerous weeks running for baseball and make it entirely difficult for prospective fans to follow the show.
Yep, that's a recipe for success right there. :goofy: It's a testament to the quality of the show that it has gained such a huge following after it was cancelled. I watched it from the very beginning but I've personally hooked at least 10 other people after I lent them my DVD set.
FOX had a jewel on its hands but managed to bury it and screw over the potential for a fantastic, long-running series. Bastards!
Have you noticed that I'm a little bitter toward FOX? :D

The good thing about Firefly, is that it is very re-watchable.
The Serenity Comic Book comes out in July.
It takes place between Objects in Space and the Movie.
It's 3 issues with three covers for each issue, covering all 9 characters, each one by a different artist.

Yes, there was huge potential there.
It seemed as if every episode built momentmum from the previous one.
Character development and complexity was at a high level. As good as any show I've seen.
The cast had an amazing chemistry, they really love each other and it shows on the screen.

A little more straight forward.
Looks to be a prequel to the first clip. It says it's Session 1. The first clip was Session 416.

Also, if he doesn't like Western's, then he may not care for Firefly.
Although there are many Firefly fans that hate Western's and hate Science Fiction but LOVE Firefly.
Another one of the many things that make the show so unique.

A little more straight forward.
Looks to be a prequel to the first clip. It says it's Session 1. The first clip was Session 416.
It doesn't spoil anything.
Actually looks like it takes place before River's entrance into the academy.
Hence before the series.
Also note that the man in both clips IS Joss Whedon.
He also said that there would be more added to this story.
Whether it be in the form of more clips or perhaps DVD supplement, I don't know.

That would be best because Sci-Fi jas really butchered the show.
They're not showing it in it's correct aspect ratio (Widescreen) and the resolution and sound is piss poor.

Haha, yes please resist! It's worth it!
However, if you want to get a good idea of the guys writing style then read the first chapter.
Don't worry, it's not in the movie. Actually, the first chapter recaps the events of Serenity Valley. Basically a more detailed version of what we saw in the Serenity episode where Mal and Zoe were fighting the Alliance.

Just saw it last night with a bunch of friends.
I have to say the only part of it that sucked for me was the premovie nerdfest... Sorry, I can't take that much BO.
Other than that I was blown away. The effects were better than I expected, the acting was solid, the humor... man the humor. Some sad parts confused me, I mean... well I won't spoil it.
My suggestion, go see it. Sleep over it. Then go see it again. There's some political undertones to it, but very subtle.
The thing that I liked was that even if you didnt' watch the series it was accessable, but if you did watch the series, you homed in on some inside jokes and stuff.
Oh yea, and it's not one of those movies where all the good moments are in the trailers. ^_^

Hmm....did I miss it or has Benny not commented on this yet? Interesting. Wait, maybe he did, I don't know.
Anyway, like I said, I went to see it last night (it was actually unplanned, I just popped in after work).
I was more impressed than I thought I'd be. I mean, I have no clue what the series is about, but I don't think you need to have that background to enjoy the movie. However, it'd probably make the experience much better.
I really did like it though, what with the amazingly horrible job Hollywood did with our Summer, it's nice to know that Fall and Winter releases will be much better.
The dialogue was very intriguing and it made the whole "western" aspect believable. You wouldn't expect people in sci-fi movies or stories to be talking like old westerners do. And it even had added words and phrases that took it beyond that.
I loved the humor. I laughed at probably all of the wise-crack jokes and everything like that.
The special effects were pretty sweet, I must say. I liked the designs of the cities, worlds and especially of Serenity herself.
So Benny, like I said, I went to see it and like I predicted, I liked it. Honestly I was kind of afraid all the big hype and deal you made out of it would ruin it but it didn't.

The movie is a hard sell.
No recognizable stars, hard to determine storyline.

Firefly was brilliant, a nice departure from Buffy and Angel, but still with loveable characters (Yes even Jane), and kick arse srong female roles (praise the Joss for strong female characters).
My best friend in NZ saw it a few weeks ago. One really great thing about NZ is that as they are the 1st country to see the new day, when there is a world-wide release, NZ gets to see the film first! Midnight screenings of all the latest films!
When I moved to Ireland I had seen Spiderman (1) 2 months earlier in NZ and it hadn't even been released in Ireland!

Oh, wait. Yes I am.
wow. that was interesting. i like card alot. i've read the whole ender's game series and loved it, including the bean books. i wish he had defined "sci-fi" though: from what i gathered he defines sci-fi stories as ones involving relationships and communities (i'm getting that from where he distinguished the sci-fi from the western by pointing out that the western involved "lone" rangers).
it was also nice to hear him talk about an ender's game movie. i would Love to see that, however i don't know if it can be done due to the lack of high quality actors who are in the 6-10 year old range.

I've just got back from watching and thought it was great. Serenity herself looks gorgeous, the sets and effects are fantastic. I thought that the story was pretty good, although seeing the series first for the character backgrounds would be benificial.
I would say, however, that I was quite disappointed with Inara. She seemed to pretty well there as window dressing. Hopefully, Inara will be given more depth in any subsequent movies. River was fantastic, innocent, manic & scary in one package.
Anyway, TDK & Jav, thanks again for introducing me to a whole new universe

It's hard to give everyone adequate screen time when you have 10 major character's. Star Trek never gave their "b" cast as many lines as Inara got. She had pne of the best scenes in the to compensate. The training house with Mal, The Operative and Inara was great.
The Operative: Captain Reynolds, I should tell you so you don't waste your time. You can't make me angry.
Inara: Oh please, Spend an hour with him.

I don't think Fillion can be a big hollywood star because Tinsletown is so superficial, only pretty people can be big hollywood stars.
Yeah, I was really suprized it didn't do better in the theaters, I really liked the movie and am looking forward to watching it again this weekend with my daughter. Maybe it'll be one of them movies that catches on and hit's it's prime after the word gets around.
Hmmm, interesting.
Well, the director wrote the movie and created the series as well.
The acting was pretty spot on for those characters.
And I thought Fillion was a pretty boy Hollywood type.
Then again, I have no idea what makes a guy pretty.

look in the mirror and see what makes a guy pretty :P
I didn't think the acting was horrible or even bad, I just thought it could have been better. I've never seen the series and am unfamiliar with the characters, but I do know when acting could be better. I still loved the movie though and am telling everyone i know to go see it. I might rent Firefly this weekend if it's avalible to rent, (Anchorage is small enough to where not everything is avalible)
I read something about sequals, I didn't read the entire artical, but do you know anything about that?

Well, if it made 80 million dollars than Universal would greenlight a sequel but it didn't make anywhere near that so the odds of that happening are slim.

Well, at last count Serenity is only up to $22.3 million. However, the movie had only a $39 million budget. So, by the time it's gone from the theaters it will probably close in on $30 million. And then will come the DVD sales. They could still make a tidy profit which might go ahead with a sequel.
Regardless, the tally is a bit disappointing. As much anger as I've seen expressed by some Firefly fans about the ending, I'm betting that has hurt the repeat viewings. Oh, well. :ugh:

I JUST saw this movie for the first time today (for the insane price of $10.50 for a matinee in NYC).
Joss is awesome, and its nice that his sci-fi world had the chance to flesh out some. Good storyline and the effects were good as well. Acting I thought was fine and Joss always has such a command of dialogue (and the ability to find the right actors who can pull it off).
I will agree, without spoiling too much, with Javalon's assessment that perhaps the couple of anger-inducing events is deterring repeat business.

Perhaps, but anyone that knows Joss's work should have known that he wasn't going to take it easy.
Hell, that's one of the biggest reasons I love Firefly/Serenity.

If we're talking about the same thing, then I quite like the fact that Joss is willing to go to some of these dark places, and if he felt he had to do what he did, then so be it.
I actualy quite liked the end, if we' talking about the same thing, I didn't see that one coming. Might well go again this weekend if nothing else crops up.

I think the problem over here has been this:
We've got a really cool film based on a really cool TV series that Fox cancelled after 13 episodes, and that we've never shown in the UK.
You HAVE to go and see it!!!!!
Not really going to work. If it hadn't been for you and TDK going on (and on and on and on ................... :D ) about how good it was I probably wouldn't have bothered myself, especially with the difficulty of renting series from the video store.
Damn glad I listened to you boys though

I don't think the deaths (ok its been weeks can we finally get out of the hush hush mode?) had a large impact on the revenue. I think the numbers are reflecting that not a lot of non-fans are seeing it. Even though there are A LOT of fans of the series, they cannot make a film a success all alone, even if they see it 3 or 4 times (which many are.)
They need Joe Schmo to see it and when a major newspaper like The Denver Post doesn't even review it then thats not going to happen. For goodness sakes even "Soul Plane" got page space when it came out.

Alan Tudyk (sp?), as well as Ron Glass, is signed for the future movies if they happen. I think if they do sequels, 1 of them will definately focus on Book's history which means they probably will have flashbacks.
As far as the deaths go I think it was sad, but the story opportunities they create and the developement in other characters (such as Zoe) are a lot more important than the characters being "alive."
One of my favorite parts of Lord of the Rings is when Boromir dies. I'm not a sadist, I just think its such a significant turning point of the character (even in death).
The cool thing about Wash's death is it happens after he saves everyone elses life AND he dies at an almost comical moment. Just about perfect.
Anywho, just as in real life, I don't think death is "the end" of a person. They still live on in memories. In movie terms, flashbacks. I'm pretty sure that the memory of Wash would not be written out of future scripts.

That was publisized beforehand but it doesn't mean either will appear in a sequel.
You have to say all nine signed up for second so you don't spoil the first movie.
At any rate, it is extremely unlikely that there will be any sequels made.
Even if the movie sold as many DVD's as the Firefly set, it will not cover Universals cost.
As far as Books history is concerned, I think it was pretty obvious that Whedon devulged all that he willing to from the movie.
There is evidence of that from these lines.
Book: I wasn't born a Shepard Mal.
Mal: Have to tell me about that sometime.
Book: No I don't.
The mystery of Book was one of the biggest questions in Firefly. Whedon knew this. Instead of telling us who Book really was he did one of the most original things of all. He kept him a mystery. I think he'll probably wants it that way. Another reason we he had to die.
Still, it's pretty heavley infered that Book himself was once an Operative. He clearly had the training, the knowledge and the Ident card to support that theory.

I was thinking that maybe the biological agent (or whatever it was) that turned those people into Reavers happened to have a contagious effect and spread to any of their victims they didn't eat.
Remember the guy that turned into a Reaver (don't know if it's supposed to be capitalized) on that ship they had found? Perhaps it wasn't psychological trauma after all but a contagious element that had entered his system. We don't know if the guy had been in a death-like state before Mal & Co. found him conscious and raving or how long it took him to reach that state. Perhaps the disease (for lack a of better word) also had a regenerative effect which is how they could sustain their massive self-mutilation.
If so, Wash might have been in a heavy regenerative, coma state due to his severe injuries and simply appeared dead. But he was really in the early stages of turning into a Reaver.
So, the next movie has the Firefly crew coming across some Reavers and somehow recognize Wash as one of them, although he's no longer himself. This is hard on all of them, especially Zoe, and they struggle between the need to kill him and finding a cure.
(I know, I'm grasping at straws... :ugh: )

Yeah, you certainly are. ;)
Would Reaver Wash dig his way out of his grave with a gaping hole in his chest?
That's a little too Star Trek for Joss.
Firefly has it's Sci-Fi elements but it is FAR more grounded in reality than what your proposing.
He's dead and he's not coming back.
Joss said it was his plan to kill Wash in second season anyway. His character was basically designed to die and elicite the most emotional response.
Unlike the rest of the crew, Wash was someone that had no agenda(except for being with his wife). He was extremely likable and pretty much innocent for the most part. He was the perfect character to kill. I realized that shortly after he died. I was thinking to myself. NO! Anyone but him!!! I didn't realize how much I'd miss him until it happened. Congratulations Joss, you got me again.

It's lines he said form the beinging of the movie.
Doctor Mathias: I need to see your clearance.
The Operative: You're right to insist. I know you've had security issues here.
He places his hand on the screen. Mathias looks at the readout.
Doctor Mathias: Apologies. An Operative of the Parliament will of course have full cooperation.
(looks at screen)
I'm not sure what...I see no listing of rank or name.
The Operative: I have neither. Like this facility, I don't exsist. The Parliament calls me when.... when they wish they didn't have to.

My son bought me the DVD set and we watched the first three episodes this weekend and will watch the next disc next weekend... I'm assuming there's three episodes on that one too.
It's a great series and I recomend anyone who's a fan of good TV to see it. When TDK first started talking about it I was a sceptic on how good it actually was, but now I'm loving it. I'm encouraging all my friends to go see the movie.

Glad you enjoying it.
The first disk has three episodes.
Serenity (parts 1 and 2)
The Train Job
Bushwhacked
The second disk has 4
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs Reynolds
Jaynestown
The third disk has 4
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Trash
And the last disk has three
The Message
Heart of Gold
Objects in Space
The series gets better as it goes along, starting at Our Mrs Reynolds.
Out of Gas seems to be the concensus fan favorite.

Right now it's currently War Stories.

Thank you Dark Knight for introducing me and my wife to the series. I came on the board about a year ago, and your sig made me buy the DVD when I saw it.
We are both sci-fi fans and were not disappointed at all by the series. We went and saw the movie on its opening weekend.
It's unfortunate, but the movie didn't make enough money to merit a sequel, or a Family Guy-type revival.
We love the series, Our Mrs. Reynolds was the best, but it's too bad that we probably won't get to see a new chapter again.
But thanks again Dark Knight. (any other recommendations? you done good by me once)

First season is a little rough around the edges but it takes off from there. Don't be fooled by the name or the subject because it's still one of the best shows ever made.
Angel - Season One (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005JLEW/104-5989762-8014329?v=glance&n=130&s=dvd&v=glance) Joss Whedon show. Spinoff of Buffy. Start watching this while your watching Buffy season 4. Many like it more than Buffy.

Well, there is a few books you might be interested in.
Serenity (Comic trade paperback) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1593074492/qid=1130516735/sr=2-3/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_3/104-5989762-8014329?v=glance&s=books)
This is a 3 issue comicbook written by Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews that takes place between the series and the movie. It ties up a few loose ends and also prepares the storyline the movie starts on. It is canon so I would recommend it for every Firefly fan. This trade paperback hasn't yet been released but you may be able to still get the indvidual issues in comicbook stores. Highly recommended.
Serenity: The Official Visual Companion (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1845760824/qid=1130516735/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-5989762-8014329?v=glance&s=books)
"This large format, full color companion to the movie features: A special Introduction by Joss Whedon An in-depth interview with him about the making of the film The full shooting script, including scenes cut from the final edit Fascinating production and background memos by Whedon, including ‘A Brief History of the Universe, circa 2507 A. D.’ Scores of stunning movie stills, storyboards and pieces of production art." This is an excellent book to go along side the movie. Recommended.
Finding Serenity : Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly (Smart Pop series) (Paperback) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1932100431/qid=1130516735/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/104-5989762-8014329?v=glance&s=books)
A collection of essay's and short stories about the late great show Firefly. Some good stuff in this book. Interesting insight and analysis. Recommended.
Serenity (Novelization) (Paperback) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1416507558/qid=1130516735/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/104-5989762-8014329?v=glance&s=books)
This is the Novelization to the movie. It's not too bad but you can tell it was written from the script and not the movie as some of the comedic timing and intense moments seem lost. Adds alot of additonal insight to many other things however. An interesting read. One note: The author is written an orignal Firefly/Serenity storyline called Mirror Image (Serenity) (Paperback) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1416511938/qid=1130517855/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/104-5989762-8014329?v=glance&s=books) set to be released June 27th, 2006! I'd prefer new canon by Whedon but I'll definatly check this out.
Serenity Role Playing Game (Hardcover) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/1931567506/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/104-5989762-8014329?%5Fencoding=UTF8&customer-reviews.sort%5Fby=-SubmissionDate&n=283155) I've never played this role playing game but the Browncoats seem to like it. I'll probably be getting it very shortly.
There's also alot of fan made videos and things out on the net if you look around. Some of them are very well done.
There's an weekly internet show called The Signal (http://signal.serenityfirefly.com/signal.php) that's totally dedicated to Firefly/Serenity. I've listened to a couple episodes. Not too bad.

Just put it on my wish list, thanks! Great that you used the term canon.
Already on the wish list, along with the dvd set.
There's also alot of fan made videos and things out on the net if you look around. Some of them are very well done.
Is there any good fanfic out there?
There's more out there and more on the way. I'll keep posting here if there's anything of note.
Thanks for all of this. Yes, please keep us in the know.

so after loving serenity, i got the series dvds for christmas but didn't get the chance to put them in until tonight. wow. firefly lives completely up to the hype. the writing is just great; never going for the lame/obvious joke. the acting is great. the special effects are great. firefly is better than 95% of television hands down. absolutely unbelievable that this show didn't make a second season.

I got both for Christmas, though I've seen all the shows on Fox and then especially SciFi. Saw the movie in the theater.
Watched the Serenity dvd, but want to do it again with the Joss commentary. Then I'll go through the Firefly dvds when I get a chance (probably March).
Here's holding out hope we'll see more of the 'verse.

this was mentioned on techtv the other day: http://www.fireflyseason2.com/index.asp
that would be nice. but here's my question; why doesn't the scifi channel pick the show up? surely it would bring in more ratings than some of the stuff on there.
as to that site, i filled out the survey thing but i wouldn't put in your last name or give them you're email address. i mean, it was talked about on attack of the show, but i still wouldn't recommend giving your email.

Just a quickie - Serenity was finally released in the UK on the 27th Feb.
Judging from the two national chains I went into last weekend, sales are pretty good..........Virgin had it at #1 in the DVD chart, with Firefly itself in the mid 20s, and Woolworths had it at #3 with Firefly at #25 in the TV DVDs

Just got through watching the Serenity movie and I have to say it was way better than I would have dreamed. I have never been into sci-fi movies and the only series I have ever enjoyed was Star Wars but this was nothing like I imagined.
I was glued to it from start to finish and now I'm thinking I want to get the series on DVD. The one-liners were classic throughout and a great cast rounded out the whole thing.

just finished the season on dvd for the first time (yea it took awhile - but not from lack of interest). what a great show. episodes never got old and had something to surprise me just about every time - just when i thought i had the formula down they changed it up.
with the exception of the reavers, that bounty hunter in the last episode was my favorite bad guy. his "well, here i am" line was perhaps my favorite moment in the whole show - what a way to end things. there could have been so many episodes made out of that one guy. sigh, what a great show.
firefly is a better show by far than american idol
yet only american idol is able to have multiple seasons
does that seem right to you?

Haha,
Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Good thing about Firefly is that it's great with repeat viewings! You catch little stuff here and there that you didin't see before and all the quotes, one liners and classic moments still have a positive effect.
Objects in Space is a great episode and was a decent send off for the series although it wasn't written as a season ender.
I love the way all the stories are set-up. Objects in Space for example, The whole season River is seen as nothing more than a crazy incompetant girl that's a HUGE liabilty. Then she ends up being the only person that can one up the bad guy. She made everyone think that she was the ship. She said it so lucid and confidently (something she didn't do all season long) that it had everyone buying into it just a little bit. It was enough to fool him and the audience. All the stuff about River in other episodes was setup for that moment. Brillant.
And the scenes with the bounty hunter and Kaylee were truely frightening. I can't remember the last time I felt that bad for a charachter.

yeah in a way it sucked that it was the final episode. At the end it felt like the bounty hunter would eventually be an ally of theirs, just because of how intricately they talk about him through out the episode.
one of my favorites (if thats possible cause I love them all) is out of gas. I think it is my favorite is becuase before I saw it, I loved every characters role. After Out of Gas I loved every characters story even more.

Out of Gas is excellent. I also think War Stories is one of the best episodes.
Really though? It doesn't matter the episodes because it's the CHARACTERS that are so well-acted and spoken. You can find gems in every single episode, and they are most often quotes of dialogue. Whedon & Co. are just geniuses with dialogue.
As to mottos, SM19, wait until you see "I'll be in my bunk."

I love War Stories. I like how they dealt with the Mal/Zoe/Wash relationship. Something that had been in issue since Serenity and they resolved it well in that episode. Wash finally realizes why Zoe follows Mal with such unwavering loyalty. :)

I loved the interrogation how the two essentially ignored whats-his-toes and kept going on their diatribe. Very dismissive, loved it.
The BEST thing about that episode, which was so awesome for me, was that Mal recognized that Wash was going to fall unconcious and he knew that would be disasterous. So, he essentially goaded him into staying awake. Now that's a leader.
Was this the episode where River picks up the gun and shoots with her eyes closed? The end when Mal is fighting the brute and Zoe's all 'This is something the Cap'n needs to do himself' and you hear him say 'No it isn't!'. Priceless Whedon.
DK, have I asked you before if you've seen the River Tam Sessions?

Word on the grapevine is that there will be a dual disc Special Edition Serenity DVD release due out in July.
Joss posted about on Whedonesque (http://whedonesque.com/comments/12606#164745).
Yes, fanlings, there is going to be a 2 disc 'Special Edition' released this summer. You know why? 'Cause the 1 disc 'Normal Edition' has sold so well -- so maybe a little self-back-patting is in order for you guys. Way to keep her in the air.
It's too early to be sure what the Special Edition will contain, but here are some things we're going for:
NEW KEY ART.
Cast commentary -- assuming I can get a decent number of them in one room. They're very busy people, I'm happy to say.
NEW KEY ART.
The region 4 goodies, obviously.
The Tam Sessions.
KEY NEW ART.
New Yub Yub, and Greedo shoots first. So does that kid outside the trading station, the pilot who destroyed Haven, and Kaylee. And Richard Dreyfuss goes INSIDE the mothership.
KEW RAT YEN.
An alternate ending, if you turn it off early.
Proof of the existence of a benevolent higher power -- uh, I mean, new key art.
Mice.
And honestly, what more do you want? Don't answer that, I already know and it's unseemly. But I'm pretty excited here. Back to work, -j.
Take my Yub,
Take Yub Yub,
Yub Yub tak the Yub from Meee...dichlorians....
