Being that this will be the last Star Wars movie and the movie's a classic, it deserves an official thread.

Discuss what you expect to see in the movie and stuff surrounding the movie.

When the movie comes out it becomes an open discussion.

I just wanna see what happens when Anakin turns to the darkside.

Also the fight between him and Obi-Wan should be classic.

Personally, I'm far more excited to see the Firefly movie Serenity (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/serenity/).

Hopefully not. But I think it'd be hard to make VII because they'd the old actors and voices to come back. Maybe they'll get new ones and say they aged but I"m not sure.

Maybe Star Wars Episode I.5, II.5? I.5 would show Anakin and Obi-Wan on missions and stuff showing how Anakin matured to say the least. II.5 would show the clone wars. Cartoon Network had a Star Wars special thing on it and it was all animated.

Well, I dont really consider it a spoiler. Some stuff will be different. But in the book, for examle, You understand more about what Anakin is thinking all throughout the movie. In the opening sequence, which should be quite spectacular, you dont just see the all the battle (which I can easily picture in my mind while reading), you understand why he does what he does, whats going on in his head. For this particular movie, and the transformation of that character, the book explains soo much more. At least I assume it does. So far, they havent let you really into anyones thoughts. You get that in this book.

However, books dont always do that. The novel for Star Trek- The Motion Picture, for example, offers no more explanation about what happened to Vger, "the baby" McCoy refers to, than the movie did. Gene blew it on that book. HE wrote it!

Yeah, but that is something a DIFFERENT writer came up with, stuff that HE added in, the book is based off the movie's screenplay not the other way around. I wouldn't want a book spoiling one of the greatest movie going experiences of all time. But that's just me.

Also, as OLB53 guessed, the clones ARE the storm troopers! (Obviously) The book goes into some detail about how this comes about, where I doubt the movie will spend any time with that. I'm guessing they just turn, with little explanation.

Details. Thats why I like the books! Not just who and what, but why. It makes the story more complete for me.

Too bad it's someone else details and someone elses explanitions.

I like it for the original artist to tell me like it is.

Especially if it's coming from the biggest movie franchises of all time.

Not really. Everything is approved of and orchestrated by Lucas.

True, but it's still filtered though someone else.

Star Wars is a movie franchise, I'll watch the movie, THEN read the book.

I don't want my movie going expereince to be spoiled because I already know what's going to happen.

Books always add more, Lucas wrote the original Star Wars book... don't think there was a lot of filtering there. BUt he also micromanages all the stories and events that happen to his characters, that was why there was not a plethora of books until a few years when he decided what the rest of the story would be and that there would be no chapter following the events of Jedi.

There is no original Star Wars book.

The Book your talking about is based upon the movie.

The screenplay to the Star Wars saga was written first.

And Books don't always add more. I doubt people would read the book and say that it was better than the Original Star Wars movie.

I doubt you could novelize the Matrix and have it any where near the impact as the film.

You can't because the Matrix had mad good special effects. It's hard to capture that.

Exactly.

There's alot of things that are hard to capture in a book. Acting, Directing, cinematoghraphy, lighting, music ect ect

I will agree that books allow the reader to use his own imagination and that it's clear intiment connection between reader and author but it isn't the end all be all in media art form.

There are many films that are superior to books. Just as there are many books superior to film.

Saw it myself 00:30 showing, well worth only getting 4 hours sleep for. Tickets over here are around $11. Quite suprisingly, the theatre was only half full, made for a much more pleasant experience. Even knowing the basics of the story, including the volcano from years back, actually seeing it was great.

I thought Christiansen, McGreggor and especially McDiarmid were absolutely fantastic.

Did any one else here lucas say that this was most likely not the end? Cuz i sure did.

I've heard the same thing, the Daily Mail on Saturday says that Lucas is planning a 100 episode TV series featuring charecters who don't feature in the films. Hopefully this will include the likes of Talon Karrde, Mara Jade Skywalker, Corran Horn, The Wraiths and the Chiss who all appear in the novels of the expanded universe.

Hopefully not. But I think it'd be hard to make VII because they'd the old actors and voices to come back. Maybe they'll get new ones and say they aged but I"m not sure.

There's a lot of scope there. without giving too much away, there is virtually an 18 year gap between the end of 'Sith' and the beginning of 'A New Hope'.

They've also just released some Clone Wars cartoons on DVD over here, I'll have to get them next week. Some of the novels also fit into the time span you suggest.

With the exception of Ann Crispin's 'Han Solo Trilogy' and some books from the late 70's the entire period is untouched. I'd love to know what happened when the empire took over, what attrocities took place, you know the sort of thing.

Well they said once the movie opens, anything is fair game...although I'm going to try not to spoil much.

Just gonna say I also saw it at 12:01. And I got away from all the weird-ass people who dress up and only paid 6 bucks :D HA!

All I have to say is: There are an awful lot of lightsabers in this movie...lots of duals with them.

Yoda is a pimp.

I was impressed with the final saber dual...it didn't suck.

I'll admit the first breath Anakin took with the help of his life support gave me the chills...

It's very interesting to see how EVERYTHING transpires and what happens to who and how this person does that, etc etc...

The final battle is AWESOME, but all the battles & duels are.

Knowing WHAT took place is one thing, and the majority of Anakin's cross-over to the dark side, the Jedi slaughter etc have been pretty well known for a while now. Actually seeing the HOW is something different though.

Thinking back over the whole prequel trilogy, I think that may be part of the problem. It's very difficult to find any affection for a 7 seven year old, no matter how cute, that you know is going to become Vader. Same with Padme & the Jedi, you know that they're brown bread, it's just the small matter of how.

I actually envy a friend of mine. He' s not seen any of the movies yet, so he's actually going to start with The Phantom Menace and see the story for the first time in the way it was meant to be written. I'll let you know when he finishes if he thinks any differently to me about the charecters.
