View Full Version : I just heard gunshots

I just heard gunshots. This is odd. I live in a gated community that never even has so much as a loud party.
I know it was gunshots because I heard a car peeling away and people screaming. In other words, what I heard growing up.
I called 911, but do you think I should be morbid and go see what happened?
And given the fact that I find this to be out of character for the neighborhood, do you think I should worry in the future?

If you are really, really curious, take a look after you can be sure that the police is in the place. Maybe you can help somehow.
I would be moderately concerned. If nothing else happens in the next few months, then I would think it was just something atypical.

I like it when I hear gunshots in the winter, I call em "out of season fireworks".

It already sounds atypical.
I'd go look, but I tend to take stupid risks at times, not having a wife nor child to worry about.

And yes we have gun crime in Iowa.

I grew up in the hood, dumbass. Why the **** would I want to move back?
Don't be a ***.

deer season?
i agree with amigo, don't go out till the police show up - otherwise the situation might still be pretty dangerous.

Well, it could have been fireworks, but again, I have heard gunfire, and the other sounds don't usually accompany fireworks.
I heard the police arrive.
The baby is sleeping, but I can always take the monitor with me. Its good to 900 feet. I have a rough idea of the direction.
Hmmmmm...
This would make me almost a rubber necker.

Ive heard gunshots where I live a couple times...that was like 4yrs ago.

This would make me almost a rubber necker. You have a right - and indeed a responsibility to your family and neighbors to be aware of what is going on in your community - within reason.

Holy crap, I think someone is running from the cops.
I heard more shots, and sirens.
I am turning on my TV.
**** going out there.
I am satying in and locking down.
See you all later.

My bad. I still live in the hood. It's not as sensative a subject for me. Didnt mean to tick you off.

I'm not doubting you at all.
I also have heard gunfire, but I guess that stands to reason seeing how Iowa lead the nation in the number of Meth labs found in 2004.

Staying at home you might be missing your opportunity of being on "COPS".. ;)
Good luck, and stay safe!
Welcome to Canada.
Umm, some guy let off fireworks once a few blocks down.
Hmm. Though, a guy was stabbed to death in a 7-11 the other day, I bought a slurpee there just today actually. Go me.

BTW I dont trip when I'm called out or insulted. I find it funny when it's done right. Dumbass was a great response. I only trip when it's face to face. Most ppl love to say things while they are in the privacy of their home. I'm sure you arent like that.
Anyway I hope things in your new hood are ok

I wasn't mad, I just found teh comment to be completely insensitive to the fact. It doesn't matter where you live or how common it is, to suggest that its no big deal is ridiculous.
We cool?

We are cool. I'm a bail bondsman. I also do some bounty hunting. Gunshots only bother me when they are aimed at me. I know I was insensative in retrospect. Didnt mean to take your situation lightly. I have been around that kind of crap all my life. I have gotten sorta numb to it.

I was going to suggest you stay in, lock your doors, let the cops take care of it, and read about it in the papers in the morning. But I guess I was a little tardy for that.

OK, so the star is where I live.
The green is the gate to my community.
The red is an old, shut down HS where it looks like the action was happening.
The blue is where I was unable to proceed further, because it was blocked off.
My baby monitor went all static anyway.
The cop said he wasn't sure what happened, he was just keeping a perimeter.

Hope that nothing too serious. Well, you're back safe, and things seem stable.

Wow Jared! I hope nobody you know is involved. That could really suck.
I am not suprised the cop didnt tell you anything. That seems to be a standard thing in my experience, which is very limited in this type of situation.
I hear gunshots every now and then, which one might think in neighborhood would be unusual. However, I am kinda in the country, and although it's illegal to shoot anything larger than a pellet gun, one my neighbors does shoot at wildlife with 22 rifle. At least according to another neighbor.
Here's to a quiet night!

Other than my wife's co-workers, who all live on base (expept for one, but she lives on the beach, lucky gal), I know no one within 180 miles of here.
I was just concerned, because it is not a usual occurance here.
On the east side of town? Sure.

I know what you mean. I used to live in a place called Highlands Ranch for about 9 years. It's a southern suburb of Denver and a VERY quiet place. Gunfire there could only mean something bad. Sounds like your situation.

On a slightly similar, but different note...
These two kids (16,17 years old) robbed, then shot and killed a cab driver the other day... the only reason I bring this up is, I drive by the exact spot everynight on my way home from work...

oooooh.
Spooky.
Sometimes, I get on the Interstate, and quite a few people have been killed on it.
Coincidence? I think not.

Here where I live you hear gunshots every night. Sometimes it is very close so you can't help but look out the window. With the number of home invasions supposedly rising ( I don't know about this fact, because it was from the local news station; can't trust them due to the sensationalist tendancies of the media )
one would be in a constant state of fear here.
