Obviously freedom and what a great country we live in. Beyond that, however, it means fireworks, beer, the traditional midpoint of the summer (even though it really isn't), family, food, parades, doubleheaders (not any more but I can think back), swimming, and lastly, that training camp is just around the corner :D

Attached is a small essay I wrote on Madison and the Constitution for anyone who would like to read it. (It is just a hair too large to post here.) It should give a pretty good idea on the importance I give to the day.

It doesn;t mean freedom to me. So much as it means soviergnty.
Fireworks are overrated, and I have never viewed July 4th as a 'drinking' holiday, so so many so far have commented. I do remember some kick butt family (and I mean the whole extended family) picnics.
I do try to read the Declaration of Independence on the day. We have moved so many times, I honestly have no idea where my little printed copy is.
I will find it online I am sure.
You shoudl all try reading it, just to remember what we are actually celebrating.
Then drink and eat to your hearts content. It is a celebration, after all.

freedom and american pride.
as some of u may or may not know, im an army brat. dad is the army. retires this year. and in the past 4 or 5 4th of july's i can only remember having my dad here for one of them. this year he's off in washington state instructing ROTC basic.
well sure, the fireworks are pretty, and the food is delicious, but the meaning is great. its one of the days all of us as americans can join together, celebrate what we stand for, and have fun.
i mean, im proud to be an american. i wouldnt have it any other way. even if u dont support whats going on in the country at this point in time, show some pride in what you got. personally, i dont support the war, or our president for that matter, but i support the soldiers and what not.
so tomorrow, be proud, show support, and have some fun. the 4th of july only comes once a year. we waited a whole year for this. make it the most fun u can possibly have within 24 hours....but with pride. lol

Today is the day that 229 years ago...(Battle hymn of the republic being hummed in the bakground)...a determined group of men and women told the greatest super power in the entire world at that time to stick their Monarchy in their bum-bums....We said NO to "Limited Freedom" and said "Thanks dad, but we'll take it from here"...
Fireworks are over-rated, I can have a picnic any weekend...but I always feel proud to be part of the greatest nation in the entire world, especially on this day...
