I live about 2 seconds from the NY state border...growing up i got all rangers and knicks games for free...devils games were on premium cable at the time, as were islander and nets games...so it's only natural growing up watching the rangers and the knicks that those are the teams i'd root for!
Same goes with Notre Dame...they were the team that was televised each and every single week, so that's how i got into them!

the vancouver canucks started with a big win against gretzky and the yotes. they look pretty strong. bertuzzi looked okay but he didnt play any preseason cuz of a pulled groin so he looked a little rusty. the sedins-carter line is going to have a big year. with two lines that can score we're gonna be tough to beat.
i really noticed the larger offensive zone, especially on power plays. there is a lot of room at the points for the defence to work the puck. and the two line pass has really opened the ice, at least so far.
truly the best time of the year. the leaves changing color, the nucks kickin butt, the broncos on a role, snowboarding just around the corner!!

You beat Phoenix in the first game of the season. Little early to be proclaiming SC champions isn't it?
I don't really like the elimination of the two line pass, but it will definitely open up the game. Did notice that on the PP too.

avs still have maybe the second best line in hockey and rob blake. they should still be competitive but they arent what they used to be. doesnt matter much though, they were done even if the cap didnt break them up.

I don't know about that, Forsberg is still doing well. If Kayrea played good and we still have good defense. I think they could have made a good run for it. Selanne could have left and not hurt us to bad. At least we aren't St. Louis! I haven't paid much attention as i used to to hockey due to the loss of the ESPN contract and the fact that all the teams got split up.

I don't like removing the red line for no 2 line passes. Just an old timers personal feeling.
I really like making the goal equipment smaller, those guys get bigger every season, short of making the net larger (no way) that's the only solution.
The zone behind the net where the goalie can play the puck is pretty hokey. If you want the goalies to stay out of the corners and stop playing those pucks, make them fair game. They leave the crease they can be hit like anyone else.
The shootout, well I don't like it but it was inevitable.

I actually like all of the changes.
Although, I agree, once the goalie leaves the crease, he has to be fair game.
Removing the red line should really increase the socring, which given the ridiculous nature of the game the last 10 years (clutching, grabbing) is a good thing. You add the supposed emphasis on calling clutching, and I think hockey can return to how it was when I first started wathcing it in the mid-80's. More open.

10-12-2005, 06:05 PM
so far i like most of the new rules. i love the extra four feet in the attacking zone (from red line to blue line) and removing the two line pass has really spread the ice and created some quick transition. i dont know how many times already ive seen a goalie catch a team on a line change with a pass up to the opposite blue line. speaking of goalies the new pad sizes are great but i agree the new no touch zone is a bit hokey. make em fair game if they are outside the zone. im pretty neutral on the shoot out. it is entertaining and nobody loses a point so its really just a bonus point compared to last year. but it could get a team an extra 10-12 points a season so it will make a difference.
one thing that doesnt get talked about much is the return to tag up offsides. it seems to me it's allowing teams to 'wind up' after a team shoots the puck in and has to wait for forecheckers to clear the zone. and now that forwards can skate through the neutral zone without carrying a defender you are seeing the return of the breakout which is awesome.
on a side note, ovechkin scored again tonight. man that kid can play.

the avs are 2-2-1. Aeibischer is our starter, make no mistake. Budaj is simply playing well, and we really dont wanna get ourselves into a Sauve situation. if we play our back up early, hell be ready when the time comes to give aebi a break. Sakic wasnt shooting second because they wanted him in the clutch spot, incase it went to a 3rd shot. Svatos simply needs to tone his shots down in the shoot out, otherwise he wouldve gotten it. the avs are doin fine, were just losing some close games. still not as bad a pheonix!!!!!!!! lol

coming in i just wanted 2 of the 4 points, especially after we beat minnesota. if we win saturday, i'm happy with the road trip. it should be a the best game of the three, i think, now that the bertuzzi firsts are out of the way. i think the intensity will pick up again, a bit. blake got bert with a prettty good hit. blake's such a good defenceman.
it would have been nice to see todd get one tonight, he had some good chances late. ya goaltending played a big part, but i dont think cloutier could be faulted too much on the first 3. the 4th was one he has to make though.

lol congrats orange shadow. i think the avs just need to go out there with the same game plan on saturday. honestly, i really would like to see a closer game, and i think well get one. heres why. both of the teams are going to be concentrating on staying out of the box. all the penalties the refs called were deserved, so i think that you guys need to concentrate on being more focused in the first whereas we need it more in the third. if the penalties go down, then i think well have us a hockey game. and honestly i think aebi purposely looked for todd and anything that came in his direction aebi was determined to stop. lol ya i know everyone was only looking at todd tonite. personally, my favorite outfit were the people behind the jail bars.

i'd say it was the best game of the three. back and forth, some good flow. you cheap bastards took a run at cloutier and knocked him out (okay not really but...) and alex auld came in and played great. bertuzzi had his best game of the year.
penalties were huge. i think the avs had 8 chances, including two back to back 1:30 two man advantages in the second period (they scored their second goal on the second), to the nucks 3 (or so). couldnt really complain about too many of the calls (except of course the 8 against the canucks ;) ).
your line of auddette and konowallchuck (i know thats not how you spell it but it must be close) and their line mate was the avs best line. caused who ever they were out against fits. had shifts against the sedins and naslund and morrison (bert didnt play a ton with them cuz crawford was mixing his lines) where the nucks didnt touch the puck for close to a minute in their own zone. auddette scored the first goal and jumped out of the penalty box to set up the tying goal.
the tying goal pissed me off. audette jumped out of the box and got a two on two but jovo had a brain cramp and didnt notice the goal scorer right behind him at the blue line. jovo's great but he's not always the most aware in his own zone. oh well.
i was hoping for a shootout, one that went like 16 shooters, but it wasnt to be.
good game, both teams played pretty well. i'm a bit disappointed only getting 1 point while you guys got 4 in this back to back.
go canucks!!

freakin nucks are killing me!!!!!!
just once i want all four lines to show up on the same night and play for sixty freakin minutes. for three years now the canucks have been coming out flat.
oh well. best to get our tough times out of the way early in the season. i just wish we werent blowing all these divisional games. but friggin 4-0 at the end of the first. i cant blame auld for the nucks being outshot 14-0 out of the gate, but at least two of those goals were on him (#2 an nhl goalie has to do a better job of rebound control of a wrist shot from the blue line; and #4, just leave the puck behind the net with your defenseman, dont give it away up the boards, grrrrrrr!)
the silver lining is that bertuzzi and naslund have had back to back good games. probably the best two games they've played as a pair. the sedins are still looking dangerous. ruutu and kesler are having good years.
earlier i was refering to the canucks as the 2006 stanley cup champions, but i have to rethink that claim. ottawa is looking like they are going to be pretty tough to beat ;) .

ya i've been saying the same thing about the sedins. they have been great all year, especially on the PP. let bert and nassy figure things out as the second unit, but give the sedins the first crack. oh well, what can you expect with crawford as a coach. great x's and o's guy, not necessarily the best bench boss. you guys can have him back if you want.
but since we have now lost three straight, all to division rivals, i'm afraid i cant return your kind words. i hope your stolen quebecers lose the next 5. and then lose the next 5 after that. other than that, good luck down the road.

doesnt look like your prayer was answered. oh, by the way, did you see the canucks beat down the redwings. we have now handed them 2 of their 3 loses, including their first home loss and their first road loss. finally the canucks put together 60 minutes and they looked awesome. bertuzzi has started scoring some goals and is becoming impossible to knock of the puck.
sunday was awesome. nucks win, broncs win, chiefs lose, redskins lose and i won my fantasy league game. yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

but dont forget that this year its not the top 8 in each conference that make the playoffs. the top two in each division make it and then two wildcards. odds of four teams from one division making it arent that good now that there is 8 games against each divisional rival.

wow, something i actually didnt know about the rule changes. good to know thoug. this early in the season though, dropping two games still just doesnt concern me a whole lot. and with six points seperating the top from the bottom in our division, id say itll be fun to watch all year.

no, two losses in a row is no big deal. its a long season. what you should be concerned about it that since i posted that i want the avs to lose 10 in a row, they havent won a game!! ;)
how did you feel about crosby winning rookie of the month? personally, i thought it should have gone to ovechkin simply because he has nobody to play with. both are doing awesome, but most of crosby's points (at that point) were assists. playing with lemieux, recchi, leclair, and palffy i could get 13 assists in a month, and i cant even ice skate (some canadian, eh!!)
as for us being unsupervised, i know your girlfriend has a tight leash on you at that end, so you'll stay well behaved. me on the other hand....

well, there bc, a win. not 10 in a row, only 2. i felt that we played a full 60 minutes of hockey tonite. contrary to popular beleife, i beleive that we have two solid goal tenders to win behind. i know aebis been cold, but i know hell be fine.
i really gotta agree with you that ovechkin (sp?) is the better rookie, or at least so far this season. he really has carried washington on his shoulders, and i also think he has a greater passion for the game.

wow! federov and a 5th rounder to columbus for forward Tyler Wright and defenceman Francois Beauchemin from anaheim. clearing about $6.08 million in federov for like $1.4 million back.
funny story, when burke was the GM of my beloved vancouver canucks, we had sergei's little brother fedor on the team (now with the rangers). when sergei was about to leave detroit a reporter asked burke if he was going to go after him and he replied along the lines of "why would i do that? one federov is enough!" not surprising that sergei didnt make the year as a duck, especially with their slow start. (okay the story is not actuall all that funny, but it is relevant if nothing else.)

ya, i figured they were gonna ship federov of sooner or later. ya know, its really another point to see in this new NHL. used to be, if a player got off to a slow start as Sergei did, 1 point in 5 days, then nothing was said, and he was expected to pick up quickly. nowadays, teams cant afford to wait for a player of Sergei's standard to "pick it up". so we will be seeing a lot more of those trades soon i suspect.......*cough* coyotes *cough* :D

I hate how the NHL biases have been this year. its always, AVS GET POUNDED, when we lose by a goal, or when we lose in the shootout. theyre doin this with all the teams. maybe im just still pissed about losing, but thats what i thinks goin on

why would montreal want aebi? theodore is a former hart trophy winner and there young backup isnt too bad. aebi aint ending up there. would you be interested in a 'swiss miss' for 'oalie the goalie' swap? probably not straight up, but i could see washington having an interest in a young goalie, and i could see kolzig wanting to go to a playoff team.
either way, it wont matter. when the games start to get a little tighter close to the end of the season, turgeon will disappear and you wont have any secondary scoring. you've also got no depth at defence, so if blake gets hurt (and the way he plays, he'll probably miss some games) your defence might be a little suspect.
and now calgary is starting to play pretty well. pees me right off. stupid flamers.

well we have a home and home coming up on sun/wed so prepare for a little smack. we are playing as good as we have all year, as far as work ethic. we need to get some division wins so i hope you guys are ready for a tough two games.
after the game it was reported that a florida scout was at the game. it got the luongo to vancouver rumour going again. one of the post-game guest analyst on the tube said that there is some smoke out of florida, but nucks gm dave nonis has said there is no truth to the rumour. anyways the rumour is something like cloutier and jovo for luongo. jovo was drafted by florida and still lives there and there has been lots of talk of him going back there. he is a free agent at the end of the season and the speculation is that florida will make a run for him. i'd move him for luongo in a heartbeat, although id probably want a little more (a fourth line centerman or a draftpick).
there is also talk that bertuzzi might end up being in the package. i think that just might be over eager reporters jumping the gun, but who knows. i hope not anyway. obviously florida would have to be throwing someone else into the package (bowmeester's name came up alot over the summer as did nathan hortons).
so i dont know, could be a whole new look canucks you see on sunday, but i wouldnt be holding your breath.
ps. did you see highlights of that backhand pass bertuzzi sent to nassy tonight? un freakin believable.

I think you guys better be ready for some tough games too. even though weve lost some stride this year, were still an above average hockey club in my opinion. Coach Q will get a fire lit under our butts for the next few games. also, this is budaj's first time starting three in a row. hes going to make a fine starter, and i have a lot of confidence in our club's future. i think that this year we'll be able to make the playoffs, but it will be close. i dont see us getting past the conference semi finals. Our club is starting to draft very well tho, so i beleive that another era could start soon. weve got good young d-men in liles, clark, and Jeff Finger ( still in the minors). and i cant wait for next year when wolski comes to us for good. Duke, tangs, svatos and wolski are about to get the torch passed to them. it should be a fun next few years, with our young guys and urs.

you guys have always been good drafters. just in years past you would trade all your prospects for ray bourques or kaspiritis's or theo fleury's or rob blakes (can you tell i'm still a little bitter about those days). but you guys drafted hejduk and svatos and drury etc etc. you might have to retool a bit now, but you arent done and you wont be down for too long. assuming you get a goalie.

First off, i think tonites win got our team back on track. i know it was columbus, but 5-0 on any team is a good win. props to aebi. right now, as far as the goalie thing goes, i wanna wait until maybe december, give aebi a few more starts, see if hes back or not, then execute something if needed. as far as sakic and blake, i know blake has talked about taking a pay cut for the team, but i think joe might be thinkin about retirement. personally, i see both comin back for one more year to give our young guns a chance to have leadership once more, and then the hand off will take place. as for the pr bronco guy, get over urself, it was a loss to detroit. not like it hasnt happened b4. well make the playoffs, and u can go be a canes fan and have fun with your fairweatherness ( great word eh?). should be a good one on sunday (no broncos, but avs and nucks, so itll make up for itself)

we really do have the right goaltenders to get the job done. Aebi plays very well against teams that pound the net. teams such as calgary, edmonton, vancouver, detroit, all those types of teams. the reason is his recovery and rebound control are superb. budaj is going to fair better against sharp shooting teams. all those teams that look for that one shot to put it in. Nashville, Minnesota, Atlanta (even though we dont face them), Los Angeles. budaj has great reaction timing. if he can see a shot even for a split second, he can get his glove up or his pad out. i will say this as well. we did not deserve to win that game last night. aebi kept our underacheiving offense in it. we are very fortunate that we were able to score the one time we put pressure in the edmonton zone. i know Q's gonna stress offensive effeciency vs. vacouver tonite.

sorry, jared, im a nucks fan. a shootout win between division rivals means they both get points in the overall standings. that is bad for me and my team.
can't post much lately, final couple weeks of school and just finished moving, but i can give a quick run down on the canucks. 12-1 at home, 3rd best quarter season point total in franchise history and everyone here in beautiful british columbia is griping about the way the boys have been playing. our starting goaltender has been hurt, and our back up is young and just not ready for 6- 7 straight starts, including back to back nights. the new cba is screwing us a bit here. we have an experienced guy on the farm (wade flarhety sp?) but we have to call up a kid who is in his first year in the ahl and not ready for the big times because wade is playing so well and makes more than $75 000 per season so has to clear waivers to even come up. not a good rule. not fair to us (having to use someone not ready for the nhl) but more importantly, not fair to guys in wade's skates. he is in his 30's and cant get another shot at the nhl because we cant afford to lose him to atlanta or pittsburg or someone like that. kind of a raw deal for him.
anyways, this friday canucks host ottawa. should be a great game. avsfan, you and the rest will be hearing more from me soon. where do you figure aebi would go and for who?

hey bc. first off, id just like to state my case for my team. i know the avs are having a mediocre season this year. im starting to accept that. id just like to say that i know we will at least make the playoffs this year, and that im still just as big of a fan. i have never been a fairweather fan and i will never be one. they are and will always be my avalanche, and thats what counts.
first, the reason all of us avs ppl are positive we are seeing an aeibischer trade is for this reason. yesterday, our goalie from lowell was recalled. he goes by the name of vitaly kolesnik. im looking forward to seeing him play, he has great capabilities, and has posted some shutouts down in the AHL this year. second off, him and budaj are the ones set to lace up tonite against boston. the avs have NEVER dressed three goalies in the time they have been in denver, so therefore aebi is gone. now, here is the main thought. edmonton is desperate for solid goal tending. if kolesnik and budaj can prove that they can take on the duties, then aeibischer could head up north for jani rita, raffi torres, or someone of that type. we would also get 3rd rounder in my opinion. now, i could also see atlanta wanting to pick up aebi. anyone who has payed attention to the thrashers problems, they have lost 5 goalies to injury this year. now, i would like to see this trade go through for a guy like greg devries, nicklas havelid, or scott parker. and then of course, never count pittsburg out of a trade! i would love for a guy like ryan malone or andre roy to come over here. well, lets see what happens. GO AVS!!!!! GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

I agree that a trade is going to happen. The roster moves certainly support such an idea. However, the Avs problems revolve around defense and goalie. The Avs don't need more scoring (unless they trade one of their scorers like Tangs or Svatos). They need a goalie. If a trade happens it better be for a goalie and/or defense. It should only include an offensive player if they include one of their offensive players in the deal. JMHO.

thats why we need to see if kolesnik can succeed in the league. if we can succesfully rotate him and budaj, we will be fine. also, thats why we need an offensive defensemen like larsen or rita, or a defensman like de vries. i still think the avs will be fine though no worries.

Sorry, that dog won't hunt. The Avs will not make it very deep into the playoffs (if they make the playoffs at all), with two unproven goalies. Just isn't going to happen. The Avs need to get an experienced goaltender if they have any chance of getting into the playoffs.

the problem with that is this. all the experienced goal tenders in the league are going to have problems as well. you forget that the goalie equipment has been diminished, and that all goalies are tryin out new things. lets just see what happens with kolesnik tonite. btw, i just realized something. felix potvin is a free agent. lacroix might have that up his sleeve too, so dont lose faith LDB, PL, while questionable, will do what is necessary for this organization.

i brought up a while ago an aebi for kolzig trade. washington is obviously a team rebuilding and kolzig has proven in the past he can win big games. or maybe an aebi for osgood deal? the only other team i could think of of the top of my head that might move an experienced goalie for a young, unproven one might be phoenix (cujo). it is pretty hard to do a goalie for a goalie deal, but i agree, having two young unproven goalies means a write off of a year.
but isnt this aebi bashing a little harsh? seems to me he just had a spell where he played some pretty solid hockey, no?

i wouldnt want lalime, LDB wanted a veteran goaltender, so im proving my point lol. we got a very good win over boston. right now im thinkin Kolesnik will be ok in the league. i never judge em after the first game, but a 20 save night is not bad for his first outting. overall, our D stepped it up in this one, its good to get a win like this b4 a road trip. Q says that Kolesnik will likely get the start vs. Jersey on Friday. with jersey, i like K's chances ( kolesnik is hard to spell lol). i think that he is a complete goalie to say the least, and if our D can gitrdone, then we will be fine. but for pete's sake WATCH KOSLOV lol. that guy is fun to watch. he scares the **** out of me right now lol

personally, i hate the rangers ('94...i still see lafayette bouncing it off the friggin post  ) but i loved that goal by malik. although his celebration might have been better than the actual goal.
i'm also a big jagr fan (at least i was when he was a penguin) but i am shocked the rangers are doing as well as they are with tom renney behind the bench. when he was the coach here in vancouver, he just didnt seem like a big league coach. super nice guy though so i am happy for him.

riviting i know.
first the good news. an impressive home ice win against ottawa followed by an equally impressive road victory against the red hot new czech rangers. matt cooke, returning from his 17 game abscense was a force, using good foot speed and timing to lay some big licks on the forecheck. his energy and spark was pivotal in helping the canucks, who have struggled on the road this season, hand the rangers their first loss in a while at home. cookie even managed to bang in the garbage with a hard drive to the net to score the game winner.
now for the bad news. dan cloutier is likely gone for the rest of the season due to a tear in his acl. the expected time frame is 4 months, but they say there is a chance he could be back sooner. but right now it is looking like the young alex auld, who has been pretty solid so far this year, is the man in van. the recently acquired maxim oullet, who avs fans are surely upset in missing out on, will be the backup till further notice. canucks gm, dave nonis, has stated that he is not actively looking for a keeper, but if an upgrade was offered they would consider it. the canucks have mere peanuts to play with under the cap, so at best it would be a journeyman backup (unless it was a major deal so here come the luongo rumours again).
on a side note, there were reports that todd bertuzzi (disappointing 9 goals this year) had asked for a trade. he has publicly denied this and stated on the local radio that he does NOT want to leave vancouver.
go you whacky canuckleheads!!

time for my avalanche break down. im sad to admit that i am officially in the rebuilding state of mind. This does not by any means mena that i am not a fan of my avs. avs hockey still gives me the same rush, the same exhilaration, and i will always be a fan. Ok, we had a very impressive shootout win against NJ. Vitaly Kolesnik is right now our best goalie. really though, when our D is playing 60 minutes, we could put dan hinote in goal and win, its really our D not going down for shots, our not breaking up passes. Losses to pittsburgh and ottawa have depressed me and a lot of other ppl im sure. So i say we get rid of aebi. its obvious he just isnt gelling so to speak, and i think kolesnik and Budaj can get things done just fine in net. i also think kolesnik will get better as his english improves. i would like to see sakic back for another year in 06-07, however blake is just losing it quickly. id like to see his salary space freed up this offseason. dont worry avs fans, as long as we keep strong to our team, they will return to the glory days. until then, we can stay as a dark horse and keep watchin them avs!

Don't lose faith man. Things are dark right now but not bleak. The Avs are just a couple of moves away from righting the ship. What will benefit them is selecting a starting goalie and sticking with the guy. All that Q is doing right now is disturbing the stability of the team with the revolving goaltender door. I agree that Kolesnik should be the starter and Budaj backup. I do not think that the Avs could get much for Aebi though.
They should be seeking players that are big and physical. Someone to fill Kono's place. They also need to look at some defensive players. The game against Ottawa convinced me that the Avs are lacking physical-ness. And a major face-off problem. They should be calling Russia begging Nikolishin to come back.
On the bright side, Svatos is playing better than anyone could have anticipated! Our free agent acquisitions have looked to be all solid pick-ups too.

I still think that atlanta is desperate enough for a guy like aebischer that they could be willing to give us a physical guy ( Larsen would be great). Like i said, i know the avs are goin to do everything they can to win, and thats all i can ask. i can see us in the playoffs, and i also can see us just missing too. i dont think we will ever be a bottom dweller in this league. like i said, this year is unarguably a rebuilding year for us. that would be awesome if we could go deep in the playoffs in a year of transition. once we get our goalies figured out, and the D figures themselves out, we will be just fine. its going to always be tight in our division, so ya know, we just need to worry about ourselves, and have some fun.

how bad is blake playing? i know he started off slowly but thought it was just adjusting to the new nhl. is he playing bad? does he have a young, new partner and just not jelling? usually i would be happy about blake not playing well, but with it being an olympic year i become a big blake fan.

alright, ill explain. i apologize for not doing so in my post. blake is by no means playing badly. i think he is adjusting to the new NHL. but i do not think that blakes play right now is worth 6.4 off our cap. if he were to accept a pay cut next year, of course i would want him back, i mean hes still fairly good defensively, and his shot is still booming, but hes starting to slow down, and his shots losing its accuracy. i guess im saying i would like to see blake take a cut, and a more defensive minded defensemen come in. another thing im not liking about this teams goings on is something with coach Q. normally, i love what Q does, but this is something i have a problem with. i remember him saying in a press conference a while ago that he was asking for all of his blue liners to step into the play more. ppl like Ossi Vaananen, Karlis Skrastins, and Brett Clark, who all have perfectly good shots from the blue line are now stepping into the zone at times and waiting for the back door pass. i now ask you all to look at the number of odd man rushes that we are giving up this year. i dont think its an official stat, but weve gotta be giving up an average of 4-7 a game. that needs to change. we also need to shake up the line up somehow, especially defensively.

Here's the problem with Q:
After one game he decided to shatter Aebischer's confidence by publically stating that he didn't trust him and may bench him.
He's making the defensemen be too offensive. That's why some of our goalies are struggling because the defense is always lagging whenever they need it. Goalies are also struggling because Q doesn't seem to know which one to take (honestly, Aebischer is still the best of them as far as I can tell, but his confidence is so shot right now...).
Problems with the team stem from Q's decisions. Goalies are shaky not knowing about their job-security. Defensemen aren't be defensemen letting far too many break-aways and odd-man-out rushes on our shaky-goalies. Blake isn't producing because he's playing way too much offense and doing it in the point of his career where he is starting to faulter in that aspect.
Great thing about this team is still Hedjuk, Sakic, Tanguay, and now we have a new top-shelf skater, Svatos. I think next year will be a great year for the Avalanche because they get some cap-lienency.

any one excited about olympic hockey?
how do you guys think the US looks? JR seemed a little choked at not making the team. i heard a quote where before the US team was announced he said he would cheer for canada if he didnt get named to the squad. i guess karma got him since he wouldnt be able to play now anyways, since he broke his finger the night they announced the team. lol.
sweden could be strong if they get a goalie. that kid with the rangers is playing pretty good right now. with guys like forsberg, naslund, sundin, alfredson, lidstrom, ohlund, etc they always just needed a goalie. they might be a very tough team.
finland is always underrated, but they are all super pests with great goaltending. sami salo is having a great year, and is right up there with any power defenceman in the league. not quite top tier, but right there. plus they have kipprosoff in net.
the czechs should be good. i havent heard if they will use hasek in net or volkoun. both great goaltenders. and jagr is playing well, and he most likely will have his nhl linemates with him. with their goaltending, having your top line not have to get used to each other can play big dividends in a short tournament.
i'm not sure what to expect from the russians. they have so much behind the scenes drama that they havent really iced an A team in a while. but pavel bure is now heading the program, so i dont know what that means. when he was in vancouver, i sure didnt see him as a management type. but i love watching good russian hockey teams. i probably shouldnt say this out loud, but there is no prettier game of hockey than the one played by the russians. i'm hoping they have a strong showing this year.
should be a good tournament.

watch what you wish for southstander. right now the avs are starting to look in form again. now i know its only been two games, but you should really take a look at aebischer right now. seriously, he is a mirror image of his 03/04 style. and i know there was some concern with us letting minny have so many shots on net, but honestly, minnesota's shots usually arent that dangerous, and i notice theyll take a shot whenever its available, which usually hurts us. however, i have noticed in the recent games that aebi has had huge improvement in his reflexes and recovery. anyways, like i said at the begining, watch what u wish for, because a trade could put us into stanley cup form, or it could knock us out of it.

not sure completely, but i think the updated standings are:
cowtown flamers 55 points
2006 stanley cup champs 53 points
edmonton boils 52 points
colorado havalaffs 51 points
minny wild (not worth making a name up) 44 points
anaheim would be in 9 place in the conference with 45 points (not sure if they played tonight or not).

got to see syd the kid the other day against the nucks. he's pretty impressive. didnt really do a ton, we kept a pretty close eye on him, but he managed a garbage goal on a 5-3. but the thing that impressed me was he doesnt back down from the physical side of things. allen smacked him a few times, but crosby just keeps coming back for more. he got a couple minors after getting frustrated and getting into a couple of skirmishes, but it impressed me that he didnt back down from anyone. he's going to be good (like he's not already) when he gets stronger.

lol ive got no complaints. i got to see the presidential suite i get to stay in next year. my moms going to be president of all the colorado music teachers for the next two years. to her, that means long slaving hours making decisions and doing paperwork. to me, it means the presidential suite and the broadmoor. im not gonna lie, its gonna be sweet. its normally 2500 a night. anyways, on to hockey. with the way the standings are, we need a win against calgary on tuesday. im also thinking that you would like us to beat calgary for at least one game, as that could potentially give u sole possesion of first place in the division. were still in the playoffs, which, for how our season has been, is more than i could ask for. i think vs. the flames we just need to be solid defensively, and for pete's sake WHEN YOU ARE GIVE OVER 3 MINUTES OF 5 ON 3, SCORE A FREAKING GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that felt good to get out.

well, we beat calgary tonite. definetly just overpowered their defense and found a way to get ourselves a win. aebischer is looking great. i know he let in 4 goals, but his form is so superb right now. hes not freaking out, and is getting where he needs to be. all the saves he should be making, he is making. a 30 save effort tonite is very commendable. im looking forward to the dallas game. its always close when we play the stars. im wondering if budaj will get the start. aebi has been playing strong, but hes got to be gettin worn out from all the starts after sitting for so long. i think if we play budaj and then put aebi back in, itll keep him healthy and feeling well. sort of last step of becoming the starting goalie again. i have one thing to say about the nucks game tonite. i didnt watch any highlights, so i might have missed something, but columbus? thats just sad.

good game vs. the nucks tonite. the avs stuck in it well and came back. brad richardson got his first career goal, hes really gonna be amazing next year. just wish we could figure out our shootouts. sakic has posted it every time this year!!!! ugggg!!! o well. by the way, in the post game quotes, crawford was whining about all the luck and crappy calls that went the avs way. i dont know what game he was watching

i missed the game :heh: . my girlfriend and i have had visitors this weekend (her friend and my brother) so i was out for dinner and stuff. oh well, at least we won!! gave you guys a point just to piss off calgary. nucks had lost 3 straight, but two of them (detroit and columbus) were great games. i can handle some losses as long as they are entertaining games. i'm sure this one was. they always are between these two teams.
did bertuzzi get booed?

it was an extremely entertaining game. we scored first with brunnette on the powerplay. boughner took a great shot from the point to set that one up. then you guys came back with a nice lookin shorty from ohlund. seriousy, that guys got a nice wrister. then you took a 2-1 lead when jarko ruutu put in a rebound late in the 2nd. heres wher the B. S. calls started. ohlund ran boughner into the boards, and ohlund being so strong and big, boughner fell down. it was basically ur average check, guy comes in, lays the hit, other guy slides down along the boards. but ohlund got his stick on boughner's nose, and draws blood. not only do they not give ohlund a double minor ( the blood was unbeleivably obvious), they also call boughner for diving. so what should have been a power play for us turns into a 4 on 4, which kessler scores on. i was so pissed i couldnt even talk. with 8 minutes to go, we had an amazing line that steped up. brunette richardson and svatos. first goal brunette tried a wrap around blocker side that was stopped, but a diving svatos knocked in the rebound. then 2 minutes later, brunette tried a wrap around glove side that was blocked, brisebois tried to knock in the rebound, but was stopped by a great stack from auld. however, brad richardson charged in front and banged it in from the slot for his first NHL goal. if i may stray aside for a few moments, this kid has been great since he was called up. he is outstanding on the draws, winning all the key ones for us. he has great hands, and will be a sakic like threat behind the net for us. and hes got such a powerful shot, it blows my mind. this kid will be amazing. not to long from now, our team will be without joe sakic. our top line will most likely be mclean (great heart, and great passing skills, he can be a top line center) tangs and hejduk. then we will have richardson, svatos, and wolski. man im lookin forward to it. anyways, back to the game. overtime came and went with a penalty on u guys ( cant remember who), a legit call. then kessler tore blakes stick out of his arms and blake got called for hooking. i was pissed. anyways, both teams were great in OT defensively, so nothing. in the shootout, ruutu made a nice deke and just beat aebi over an outstrechted pad. then svatos tried to go top shelf and was just stopped by aulds glove. i cant remember your next shoooter, so ill say morrison, who was stopped by a diving aebi save. then sakic skated in, shot past auld's blocker and hit the ____ _____ post for the 5th time this year!!!!!!!!!!!!! then anson carter was stopped by a stacked pad save by aebi, a really beauty. then hejduk screwed up after having so many bad breaks. uggggg

thanks 4 the recap. obviously i miss a good game. i was so distracted by our visitors i didnt even know the game was on or i would have at least taped it. yes tape, there is no such thing as tivo in my country. but what can you expect, we live in igloos. so it sounds like neither naslund or bertuzzi took a penalty shot. probably good since neither has been able to score all year. kind of like what you were saying with sakic. funny how snipers dont score but guys like ruutu do.
from the sounds of it, kesler and ruutu had another good game. they have been playing with alexander burrows and that line has been awesome lately. all three can skate and all three love to hit. they have been our energy line lately and have even started to pop in a few goals. their the kind of line that is made for the playoffs. i love ruutu. he's always got that stupid grin on his face, he hits everything that moves, and actually has decent hands. and he's finally started to cut out taking stupid penalties (most of them anyways).
i hadnt been as focussed on hockey due to the broncos success. i had been watching all the nucks games, but not really going to their message board or doing much reading on them. time to crank it up a bit. turin is almost here, then we get into the final stretch. cant wait for the playoffs.
you think you guys are going to make any deals? lots of talk here about another defenseman and/or another goalie. auld has been improving and is playing well right now, but oullet sucks. i dont like going into the playoffs with only auld, but we will see. i'm hoping we go after mike sillinger from st. louis. they suck and he's old. but he's great on faceoffs, can skate well and has over 20 goals this year. we need help in the faceoff department so i would love to have him center our 4th line. heck, might as well go after dougie weight since we are dealing with the blues. i'd give them morrison and a 2nd rounder for those two. i think i should be a gm.

Would you want to trade Bert? I read the canucks forum every once in a while and there's a bunch of stuff slammin' him for not giving effort. Do they really need another defenseman? I'm not a true hardcore fan (although I did string about 5 excited-sounding obscenities when Cooke scored after Naslund took it to the net in the last seconds of that playoff game against Calgary, however many years ago. But then they lost, what a freakin' downer...), but don't they have a decent enough d (Ohlund, Salo, Bieska, Allen, Jovo when he's healthy) already? Lol, everyone says McCarthy sucks, is he really that bad?

well, back to therapy for me. thanks for that  .
no i wouldnt trade bert. i mean, if the right deal came along i would trade anyone (say crosby and malkin for instance ;) ), but i wouldnt be seeking to trade him. ya he gets bashed for his effort, and sometimes he does take nights off, but they are less and less now. early in the year he wasnt putting up many points, but he also hadnt played in 17 months so it was to be expected. the thing with bert is when he is on, he is as dominate a player as their is playing today. it would take something special for me to move him, if it was up to me.
as for another defenseman, i'm not sure. ohlund, salo, jovo and allen are as good a top 4 as their is in the league. nolan baumgartner is having a very good season. the new rules really allow him to showcase his skating and take away from his lack of upper body strength. bieska has been really coming on. he has played something like the last 15 games (just guessing but something like that) and is improving each one. he can skate, fight and is physical. if he continues to improve then we dont necessarily need another defenseman. mccarthy on the other hand, all i can say is he is playing better. he sucked at the start of the season, but has been playing better. but you know how it is, fans always need a scapegoat, and mccarthy is the guy this year. he has been our worse defenseman (other than brookbank, but he doesnt really count) but like i said, he has been improving.
i think the biggest reason many think the canucks will try to get another defenseman is for veteran depth. baumer, mccarthy and bieska dont have much experience, especially in the playoffs. plus bieska was hurt out of TC so we had brookbank (who sucks as a defenseman) or svend butinsomething playing when there were injuries. that and mccarthy's slow start made a defenseman a priority. if mccarthy and bieska keep improving, we may not need one, but i would like a big, physical veteran type picked up at the deadline just in case.
and ya, our faceoffs are terrible. we are a puck control team, but until recently we had one guy (henrik sedin) averaging over 50%. morrison is finally starting to win more than he loses and is up around 50%, but we are still average at best in that department. personally, i think getting a faceoff stud and a veteran goalie are bigger priorities than a defenseman, but all three would be good.

i was pretty surprised kesler didnt make the US olympic team. he is a great forechecker, finishes his checks, has good hands and plays smart. he was having problems getting points earlier but has been on a modest tear lately i havent looked at the US roster, so i dont know if there is someone i would take off or not, but he'll be a key part of that roster before his career is through.

Only Hockey Night in Canada stuff, but they usually play the Canucks as the late game.
There are games on OLN too, but it seems like they play the Pens about every other day. It's disgusting, it's Crosby this Crosby that, it sucks!
BTW, a little side question. Who would you take with the first pick of a NHL draft, Ovechkin or Crosby, or even Svatos (NOT!!! heh). I'm goin' with Ovechkin...the man's got everything. Speed, power, agility, sick puck control, hard shot, physical nature...everything.

01-30-2006, 03:33 PM
I haven't actually seen Ovechkin play yet. I've seen Crosby and he plays like a top-tier player; just has great awareness and knows how to spread the puck around.
I've also seen Svatos (of course) and I think he could be put into their league if he was a little more efficient when on defense. The guy is fast as hell, though, and he might actually be the best scorer of the three.
AvsFan26
01-30-2006, 04:31 PM
personally, i would take 1. ovechkin 2. Svatos 3. Crosby. ovechekin is just a fun player to watch. whenever he has the puck, u know something is going to happen. svatos right now is a great goal scorer. he knows where and when to shoot. in a few years, he will learn to finish the great moves hes been making, and really turn his game on. crosby is going to be a star in this league, no doubt, but he isnt the impact player that ovechekin and svatos are.
bcbronc
01-30-2006, 05:23 PM
i havent seen ovechikin play yet, so i can only judge off of the highlights. from that he looks awesome. right now i would give ovechkin the rookie of the year, but i would take crosby. when he played the canucks, he was the only penguin that worked his but off every shift. he was fighting his own battles and didnt back down from anyone. i just dont see ovechkin having that in him (but like i said i havent seen a washington game this year). both are going to be dominant players in the league, but crosby has a little bit of forsberg in him in that he can give as good as he can take.
sorry avs fans but i dont put svatos in the same hemisphere. he doesnt have to take the whole offensive load on his shoulders like the other two (especially ovechkin, but now that mario and palfy have gone sid also). he's good, but not possibly the next 'world's best player' good, imo.

i realize that svatos isnt the next world class star, and also that he doesnt have to carry a team on his shoulders ( a fact that i am very proud of as an avs fan!). but, the kid has undeniable talent for scoring. im certain he is at least one of the future leaders of this team. like i said, teams should start preparing for a svatos-richardson-wolski line. i know im thinking far in the future but consider this. richardson has great faceoff skills and pass hands. he can also put a great shot on net, and fight for a rebound. svatos has a knack for sneaking into the slot and putting the puck in there, and from what ive seen, wolski can sneak to the side of the net fairly well. and folks, i know the OHL isnt that much to brag about, but ( my stats may be 2 or 3 off i havent looked in 2 days) wolski has 64 points in 33 games for the brampton battalion. that is not too shabby. anyways, with svatos, i completely understand hes gonna be the number three ( dont anyone start dion phaneufing me here, the guy can be # 4 but please dont try and tell me hes had more of an impact than svatos has).

i agree with what you are saying. it is looking like svatos will be a very good player. my comments more meant i can see him becoming petr bondra good, while i can see crosby and/or ovechkin becoming forsberg or jagr good, if that makes any sense.
as far as dion phaneuf, i heard one commentator ask whether it is fair to say that he has been as good a defenseman as crosby/ovechkin have been forwards? i think he is in the ball park. against us, he draws bertuzzi (although regehr was out that game i think) so that tells you something. but there is also the two rangers to consider when talking ROY, their goalie and they have a forward who is scoring a bunch as well. cant recall either name though. i dont know if i can ever remember a rookie crop like this years.
AvsFan26
01-31-2006, 07:27 AM
i was almost about to use the forseberg reference, so i know what you are saying completely. marek svatos in my opinion will turn out to be a chris drury of sorts. i know phaneuf is pretty good defensively, which is why i would put him as number 4 or 5 on this years rookie list. the forward your thinking of from the rangers is Petr Prucha. he is a pretty good forward, and has a knack for getting garbage goals, but has a nicely developing wrist shot. there is however some debate ( as im sure you could make with svatos) whether his play is due to a good passing game from his line mates ( i wanna say rucchin and nylander?) or pure talent. the goalie u are thinking of is Henrik Lundqvist. he is a pretty hot rookie in the net right now, but that is a pretty touchy thing with goalies, as streaky as they are. if he can become solid, he would rank up there with weekes and burke.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Islanders center Kevin Colley underwent four hours of surgery on his broken neck Thursday and will be operated on again next week.
The surgery, which decompressed Colley's spinal cord and stabilized his spine from the front, was termed "successful" by the Islanders in a news release. Colley faces another operation Tuesday to provide further spine stabilization.
It is still not clear whether the injury will end Colley's season or threaten his career. For now, the 27-year-old player is out indefinitely. He broke the fifth cervical vertebrae in his neck but there is no paralysis.
Colley was injured during a 5-3 victory over Washington on Tuesday night, slamming his head into the boards while entangled with Capitals defenseman Jamie Heward.
Colley had gone to check Heward, who slid his stick between Colley's legs with 1:14 left in the first period. Colley didn't connect with Heward and couldn't slow or brace himself before crashing into the wall with his head down.
He remained on the ice for several minutes and was tended to by trainer Rich Campbell and Dr. Elliot Pellman, the head team physician. Colley skated off with assistance from teammates and was taken to a hospital. He had feeling in all his extremities.
Colley has no points and 52 penalty minutes in 16 NHL games, all this season with the Islanders. Jeremy Colliton was recalled from Bridgeport of the AHL on Wednesday to fill in for Colley at center.
New York is also without defenseman Alexei Zhitnik, who will miss at least two games because of an ankle injury sustained late in Tuesday's win.
Zhitnik planned to sit out Thursday night against the New York Rangers and wasn't expected back Saturday when the Islanders face the Penguins in Pittsburgh.
The 33-year-old Zhitnik, who signed a four-year deal with New York last August, sprained an ankle during the last shift.

im sorry, no offense, you can like what ever sport you want, but your avatar and sig both make me think you enjoy baseball. now THATS boring dribble. basketball's okay, but a great hockey game is much more entertaining than a great basketball game, imo. seeing two teams fly up and down the ice with precision passing and big hits and great goaltending is awesome. but both sports (hockey and basketball) are horrible to watch when played poorly.
as for gretzky, i hated him as a player. so arrogant and whiney and if anyone dared touch him, look out (obviously he had skills, but i still hated him). but i love what he has done for hockey canada. but ya, the media slobbers all over his but way too much.

First of all, wayne greztky is awesome, and i absolutely love what he has done for hockey. i can also see how you would get tired hearing of him. I've always said that, through comparisons, Gretzky is arguably the best overall professional-sports athlete ever. In basketball you can argue between not just two or three players, but many players. Same with football (pertaining to the position, that is). In hockey, though, it's Gretzky (and for good reason), period.

TSN is the canadian espn, honestly, tsn should rename themselves the hockey network 2 or something. That is all they talk about, they don't even have real analysts for any other sport. It's a complete disgrace!

That is gordie howe. if you would like a football comparison, i'd say that has the worth of a joe montana signed item. he was possible the greatest hockey player of the mid 20th century. that pic was from his post NHL career i would say. i think that could be him in a houston aero's, the AHL team, jersey. if memory serves, after he retired, he became a player-coach for them. can anyone back me up on that? or am i completely wrong? o well anyways you need to frame that, it is valuable, very very valuable.

i think you are right. if memory serves me correct he came out of retirement to play one game with them to set some record (playing a pro hockey game in 5 different decades or something like that). i have no idea the value though.

the swedes got spanked 5-0 by russia. it really is a wide open tournament. obviously canada are the favourites, but sweden, russia, slovakia, the czechs and the US (if they get some goaltending) are all good teams. and finland is solid, although they have a lot of injuries and no kipprosoff. with shoot-outs being involved in the elimination round, any one of these teams could take home the gold.

gold metal game of finland vs sweden. if canada isnt in the final, this is the game i want to see. i like sweden. guys like ohlund, forsberg, alfredson and lidstrom are all classy guys. plus the sedins are getting big game experience thats good for the canucks. and my mom is finnish so i always cheer for them to get the silver anyways. so i hope its a good game and go finland.
but for nhl hockey, oh dearie me. salo and ohlund have both been hurt over there in turin. ohlund apparently has some cracked ribs. best case scenario from what i am reading is 7-10 days, but i have heard anywhere up to 6 weeks. salo has a shoulder injury. apparently nonis cant get a good update from finnish officials. so both out for a while for sure, but wont know how long till they get back to north america.
so that means jovo, ohlund and salo all be missing some games. all three play around 25 minutes. it is going to be tough sledding. plus nolan baumgartner, our #5 guy who also gets pp time, is out for another week or two. haha, 4 of our top 5 defenseman are out and not returning for at least a while. rumours have it we are going after eric weinrich. better than nothing i guess.
so the canucks have lost their #1 netminder (although auld has done well in relief), nassy has been banged up most of the season with a bad groin (although the olympic break hopefully gets him back close to 100%), key guys like cooke and jovo have missed large junks of action, secondary guys like richard park and baumer have missed chunks, and now salo and ohlund are out for at least a while. as long as we can get into the playoffs, this can all be blessings in disguise. ohlund, salo and jovo getting some rest is a positive (although i would rather it wasnt all at the same time). plus alot of minor leaguers have seen some action, so that is good.
its going to be a tight race and we are definately undermanned. its going to be a tough couple of months. yikes.

man, havin two of ur blue liners out is definetely a bad thing, that really bites for the nucks. the avs haven't had any real injuries at the games from what ive heard, and all of our players played very solid over there, and we get one guy in the finals with laaksonen. i expect to see a trade involving brisebois sometime soon after the season resumes again. i know lacroix and he does not by any means keep defensman who don't play d well ( see SKOULA, MARTIN). brisebois has not been picking up his defensive end of the bargin here in colorado, and personally i would love to see him traded for a more well-rounded player. He has scored some good goals, but so did skoula, and the avs are much better without him. we dont need any more offense, weve plenty of that. what we need is another solid defenseman. personally i would like to see us pick up a guy like Pavel Kubina, or maybe Kyle McLaren. we shall see how the season plays out.

well, bc, we fail at powerplays as well, but we easily defeated the wild tonite. heck, it must've been lopsided if may was able to score ( bad joke i know ). hejduk and blake are startin to pick up their games, and turgeon played for the first time in almost 2 months. we are only one point behind you and calgary for the division, and im sorry but as much as i hate the nucks and you hate the avs, thats really cool that its this close. i can say this much, that all three of us will make the post season, but i couldnt come close to telling you how the division will line up. as far as edmonton and minny are concerned, edmonton had better play near perfect hockey, and minnesota needs to give roloson to someone for a defensive forward, their guys are playin like a bunch of penguins ( take it in both meanings of the word). should be fun to watch. btw, columbus on thursday, we had better kick some behind.

the only reason the flames are in this race is because they keep beating their division rivals (ie us and you). at one point they were 4-0-1 agaisnt us. we have one the last two and we are now tied with them in points. im not sure now, but at one point they were like +10 or +14 or something like that in the win column against division foes. if they dont deal for some scoring they are in tough. but there are rumours that they are after ollie jokkinen  . him playing with iggy might be scary for the rest of us.
as for us, there are rumours about eric weinrich from the blues and sheldon souray from montreal. weinrich is a solid 6th-7th defenseman and souray would be a nice pickup. both just rumours at this point though. im trying to drum up a grass-roots movement to get nonis to go after nieuwendyk. he would fit in perfect here. can play the pp, great face-off guy, has a couple of rings. its not even a rumour, just something i think would make SO much sense for us.
i feel like the hockey season has really just started. as they say in my country: GAME ON!!

k so i was doing a random check up on all of the avs prospects and i am looking forward to the future! first, i am in no way saying the avs have a bad team this year, i mean, were right in there for division champions. but hear this.
First off, wojtek wolski is having an amazing year in the OHL for brampton. he has played 48 games this year, and has 37 goals and 66 assists for 103 points. im sorry but that it just flat out amazing at any level. i know this kid will be great when he plays for us next year ( if PL trades him i will kill something, possible a cute bunny or other furry woodland dwelling creature!)Victor Oreskovich has just transferred from Notre Dame to the OHL in Kitchener, and has a solid 8 points in 16 games, however what impresses me is that he lead ND in shots and penalties, telling me hes got some good heart. he might be able to make our roster next year as well.
At the College level, i am looking forard to 2007-2008, as we will be getting 3 amazing players. Paul stastny is a guy who ive watched many times down at DU and he is very good. hes got the ability to fight well, and can make some pretty finesse plays, but can crank a good shot out too. basically hes his dad as far as a player goes. that will be awesome. JD corbin will provide some good defense at the forward possition ( think of a bates battaglia with talent). I am really looking forward to TJ hensick making his debut with the avs. this guy is sensational over at michigan, scored 55 points his sophmore year in 39 games, which is great for the college level. as a side note, Ryan Stoa is also having a strong rookie season with the gophers ( darn them!!!).

I know some people think they are having a fluky year, but to have two 9 game winning streaks in one season is impressive.

while i dont think the canes can win the cup, they do have a shot at being the team that loses in the final to the canucks. they have a nice combination of veterans and youth, but losing cole is going to be huge. their biggest question mark, imo, is how their goaltending will hold up in the playoffs. they are a good team though, but im not sure they have what it takes to beat ottawa.
a trade rumour i have heard a couple of times is ottawa going after bertuzzi. i have not heard who will be coming back this way, but i would assume a defenseman and a 3rd or 4th liner. adding bert to ottawa's top 6 forwards would make them a pretty tough team to beat.

I agree with you on Ottawa being a great team. I hope they don't get Bertuzzi as well.
BTW my favorite Canuck moment was in 94 when Pave Bure beat Mike Vernon in triple ot to beat the Flames in game 7.

my favorite canuck moment was just a little before bure's goal when captain kirk mclean stacked the pads and kicked the puck off the goalline on a two on one. still one of the best saves i have ever seen, and in game 7 overtime to boot.
i went to game 6 of the cup finals. that was sweet. i didnt have a ticket ( i worked with ex-canuck gary lupul and he was able to get me and my g/f in). we just found places to stand and watch the game, and then went to the alumni lounge (just a little cement room right under the stands) and watched the game with gary 'suitcase' smith. that was pretty cool i have to say. talk about atmosphere!
but then i went to the rink to watch game 7. they had the game on the big screens. i still remember nathan lafayette hitting the stupid post with the game 3-2. then after the game, as we were heading back to our cars, fights started breaking out which eventually led to some rioting. 'unfortunately' (sarcasm) we were not in the area when they really got going.

honestly, i am in awe. how did you guys find a way to beat those powerhouse blues? something the canucks couldnt do this year.
edmonton got a point but at least the flames lost. so we have calgary with 77, avs with 76, 2006 stanley cup champions with 75, and edmonton at 73 and in 8th place. anaheim is 9th with 70 points. as long as the canucks make the playoffs, i like our chances.
ohlund should be back for the nucks next game (thurs vs nashville). salo and jovo are both out for a while still. there is more and more talk about bertuzzi getting moved. dave nonis has been on the radio saying he has listened to offers for bert, but is not actively seeking to move him. a rumour i heard a couple of times today was bertuzzi to ottawa for redden or chara. i think ottawa would be stupid to get rid of chara, but if they would i would make that deal. i dont necessarily want bert to get dealt, but i would take chara no problem.
i read today that colorado is not looking for an upgrade in net, just maybe for a solid veteran. it sounds more like they are looking for a forward due to a couple of injuries. avsfan, how you feel about that?

the oilers picked up dwayne roloson today in exchange for a 1st rounder. seems a little steep to me for a 35 year old unrestricted free agent who has never been a true #1. on the other hand, he is solid and the oilers were desperate. plus roloson always seems to play his best hockey against the canucks, so i dont like this deal.

We should've been up at least two to one if it hadn't been for some over-anxious play by our shooters and good play by the goalie (have to give credit). Good game, though. Sakic put a move on a guy like I've never seen someone do; he didn't score (he had to shoot it quick, he was playing short-handed and the goalie was already well into position) but the move left the guy in the dust like Barry Sanders would do to defenders in football.

high risk, high reward kind of move. if jose can find his game, he is a former hart trophy winner. but he has played the sits all season. a change of scenery is probably exactly what he needs, but the avs whole season now rides on him refinding his game in a hurry. he wasnt even dressing as the backup for some games with the habs.
on the bertuzzi front, he has sat out the last two days of practise. everyone on the radio reports there have been multiple 'legitimate offers' made for him. i dont know if too much should be read into bert not practising since the sedins and ruutu also missed one day of practise (all olympians), but it does add to the speculation.
