I thought this was kind of neat when I was looking at the playoff bracket
Of the twelve teams:
Five played in January last year
1) Seattle
2) Indianapolis
3) Denver
4) Pittsburgh
5) New England
Only one team returns to the playoffs in the NFC (Seattle, when they were 9-7)
New York, Washington, Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Chicago were all NOT in the playoffs last year
Four of the six teams in the AFC return to the playoffs despite the fact that the AFC is commonly regarded as a superior conference. (Tougher opponents and more evenly balanced divisons mean lower records and a usual changing of the guard at the top)
