I'm listening to espn and all these callers are crying that the only reason they are going after bonds is because he is black. I want to see what everybody on here thinks.

I invest in both stock and bonds. Investing in stock can be risky, but purchasing bonds can be a very conserative way to go. ;)

If going after Bonds for using steroids is racist, then pulling me over for bad driving is sexist.
Bonds was getting cheered when he was chasing down the single season record. And he had to knock a white guy off the top spot to do it.
But now he's chasing down another black guy's record, and the witch hunt is on. This isn't about race. It's about Balco. It's about Palmiero getting caught after lying to congress. It's about Sammy Sosa suddenly forgetting how to speak English when he was subpoena'd. It's about Mark McGuire breaking down in tears in front of the panel while reading a statement that didn't deny anything. This is about cheating. Bonds is about to capture the single most impressive record in all of sports, and he doesn't deserve it.
It's also about baseball being too lax for too long. This should have been taken care of long ago. You'll never hear about something like this happening in football - the league kills these kinds of problems before they get bigger than the game.
He's a damn cheater! Of course it's not racist! :D

If they only went after Bonds, yes.
It's pretty funny how all of this will fall on Selig and cost him his job.
Without a doubt more than 85% of the players in the 90's were juicing.

Puh-leeeeeeeaze!
Why is it just trying to find the truth when it's a white guy, but as soon as the light shines on a coloured person, it's all about race?
If McGwire and Sosa were still around they be copping just as much flack.

Well, I dont think it's completely racist, but I think race is certainly playing a part of it.

Because racism still goes on today.
For example...
You might not have heard of the Duke lacrosse team. Basically almost all of the team was at a house party, and a black woman was raped by 3 white males on the team. Charges are kidnapping, first degree rape, strangulation, and robbery. This story took about 2 weeks to reach any national news media, and it took rioting by the Duke student body for the news to take hold of it.
I can assure you, if 3 black males raped a white girl, it would be national news within the hour.

I am well aware that racism stills exists.
The question is not whether racism still exists, but whether the MLB/Bonds/Steroids issue is racist, and I don't think it is.
It happens to be that the main player highlighted is black, but as discussion into steroids has been going on for years and Selig is only just bowing to pressure, it is naive to think this is just about race!

I agree! I just think your original statement of why is it when a coloured persons name gets brought up is racist was incorrect. Sure a lot of people pull the race card but it's obvious there is prejudice against them in most cases.
Giambi got GRILLED by the media... No one complained about that. It also has to do with Bonds saying he is only after Babe Ruth's record which probably pisses off a lot of sports writers.

I'd be pissed off too if sucha huge milestone was surpassed by someone who has blatantly cheated.
I don't think any of it has to do with race, it's the principal of the matter. Do cheaters get to keep records?
Ben Johnson didn't get to keep the 100m record!

First off, the duke thing goes a little like this. The two women were, ummm dancers (aka prostitutes) who were paid to go to the party and put out. Does not mean they did not change their minds. But you know it sure reminds me of the kobe thing, he invites her up to his room and well we all know what happend there. Still don't mean he did not rape her. You telling me a woman can't change her mind rich or poor no means no.

Read the article man.
They were paid to go dance, they thought they were going to a bachelor party. Hiring a stripper doesn't mean that they are going to have sex with you.
A neighbor quoted one lacrosse player yelling to one of the girls "thank your grandpa for my cotton shirt!"
The girl was taken in the bathroom and gangraped. Strangled. Robbed.
I seriously pity you.

Speaking of racers.
I like racing, my favorite drivers are Steve Kinser and Tony Stewart.
Just curious, what is "racecar" backwards ?

mm..... I may have to make a comparison to explain my theory
Bill Romanowski did spit on a player, ended the career of one of his teammates, injured a lot of players. He just confessed he did steroids while playing football. Did someone said something about it? the fans still love him
Barry Bonds is just an stuck up player that has never been proven to take steroids. I think he hasn't because he would have been caught already, because I am sure many want to catch him. So yea, I think it is kind of racist. If Barry Bonds would have done what Romanowski did, he would have caused a huge controversy and he would have been the most hated icon on sports

Definitely not. I think Bonds' prestige and success in baseball is what is garnering so much attention. Think of it this way, who would get more attention in football for steroids: Quentin Griffin... or LaDanian Tomlinson (sp)?

Ummmm, while you pity me. I did not read about it in the papers. However I did watch the news and yes it was stated right there on the news they were whores.
Just like an escort is a whore, call girl, street walker.ect........ Deal with it.

Fans of Romo's own team loved him, but fans of the other team hated him. Same with Bonds. Hard-core Giants fans defend him and everyone else hates him.
I think the fact that Barry has been a class-A, #1 jerk from the moment he leaped into the spotlight in Pittsburgh years ago plays into this a lot more than race. That and the fact that he undoubtedly cheated while breaking (or getting close to anyway) one of sports' most hallowed records.
If McGwire had stayed healthy and was getting close to the record he would be facing the same scrutiny, IMHO.

I just want to take this opportunity to say that I hope that Bill Romanowski falls down a flight of stairs into a biker convention, and accidentally falls into the biker boss' girl, and then all the other bikers beat the tar out of him with tire irons and chains.
How's that for love?

But the record that McGwire broke, it can be argued, is more hallowed than the one Bond's is going after.

Actually that book (I think it is called "Shadows of the Game") is supposed to include Grand Jury testimony from Bonds himself admitting that he did knowingly take steroids. That is what started the investigation.
I also heard on ESPN, that Bud Selig asked him when the Balco thing broke out whether he had anything to hide. He allegedly said something along the lines of tell me everything and I can take care of this, and Bonds said he had nothing to hide. That is why Selig is so PO'd. But I'm not sure if this last paragraph was inside info or just speculation.

IMO, this has nothing to do with race. I am sick and tired of everyone pulling out the race card for everything. Again, IMO I think it is because he is on the verge of breaking a record. A record he does NOT deserve. Barry Bonds is a liar, Barry Bonds is a cheater, Barry Bonds is a ****ing phony.
