^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said. Although, as much as I hate to admit it because I am not a fan at all, I thought a few years ago Jeff Gordon was getting awfully darn close. If he had won another title or two I could have made the case.

I'm gonna go with Dale. You could argue forever on who was better between Petty and Earnhardt but the fact is that winning 7 championships was much harder for Earnhardt than Petty. Back when Petty won his championships, he was also winning every week. Its easy to win 200 races and 7 championships when you've got a car with more under the hood than the everyone else. Don't get me wrong though, Petty was an amazing driver and still deserves the title "The King."
Earnhardt on the other hand, had competition. The cars were much more alike than in the past. Earnhardt's 7 were much harder to win than Petty's.

I don't know a ton about Nascar, but I think dusty6 made a very good arguement and I would have to agree with him.
