He had an injury and was put on IR.
According to reports, he was a physical cornerback in a zone-coverage scheme, so maybe he can make the change to FS or SS.

I hope he makes the team. He is a talented defensive back. Hopefully he can contribute greatly to helping our team get better and better.
I have got to see him in the preseason games to evaluate whether he can play corner or not. He has the physical tools and the zone coverage background will be an advantage. . . . but will he work out??? Some corners make the transition seamlessly. Other can't no matter how long they work at it. :goofy:

He's considered slow for a top notch corner, by nfl standards, and with his height, makes it even more pronounced (longer stride).
Last year, they were talking about converting him to safety......and by their not drafting heavily in that area, Shanny & co. must feel he already has depth in that area.....

I thought they already had him playing at safety in the preseason when he was hurt. Did he not injure his wrist? With his size and 4.6 speed, he has a good chance to switch to free safety. Because of his cover experience in college, he may be the cover safety that many fans believe the Broncos need. He is suppose to be a big hitter and a good tackler. At 6'4", he and Sam Brandon (6'2") could team up for a tall set of safeties. We know that Brandon can hit, so maybe Browner can learn from Lynch just how to knock receivers silly. The secondary looks good in talent for the next few years.

He has alot of upside at the S position, and he could be a great one in the league someday with his physical numbers.
Unfortunately though, I don't see him making the team this fall. With depth at a few positions that they haven't had in rescent years, mainly WR, 53 players just isn't enough to go around for people with "upside".
I honestly think Browner will be a very good starting S in the NFL someday, just not with Denver.

brandon browner is listed as a corner but they had him playing safety. being 6-4 221 theirs no way he should be playing corner. hes not the fastest corner on the team but he's faster than most of our safetys. i think he should be moved back to safety.

Sorry I meant safety not corner. :duh: Just a typo no reason for concern. I haven't completely lost it. :D

Browner plays a lot faster than what he timed at, and he was already being talked about as a free safety pre-injury. He has boat loads of potential, but I'd like to see him play up to it in the NFL. A lot of people whiffed when it came to projecting where he was going to go. Late Day 1 was about the latest anyone had him, and he was an UDFA. Funny how things turn out.

Like somebody poste last year: It might have been the best thing for his development to be put on IR-- Lots of study time & very little pressure. He is a tall guy for the corner position, I think someone here had a sig with a Notre Dame receiver catching a ball over him. I think that he will do well if he makes the cut (which I also think he will).
 heres to Browner!

Who knows, maybe he will show up and take over for one of the vets eventually.

I don't believe Browner has a prayer as a corner. At least on paper, he has the tools to be a safety. And from having seen him play, I would say he could provide a lot of competition to the safeties we have on hand.
We'll see.

Yea, i'd like to see him or Curome Cox show they can take the job once Fergy and Lynch hang it up.

Browner from the get-go was not brought in here to play cornerback, his measurables and playing style convert better towards safety than cornerback. It's a damn shame he was injured last year, it would have been nice to have a safety on the field with some actual ball recognition and coverage skills.

I wonder if he was even injured...or just stowed away on the IR.

Here is the news on Brandon last year...
DENVER -- Denver Broncos rookie safety Brandon Browner impressed coaches with several interceptions and aggressive play in training camp and was a strong defender in goal line and Red Zone drills.
But the promising undrafted rookie from Oregon State suffered a fracture in his left forearm Saturday against San Francisco and went on injured reserve Wednesday, the second safety to be lost before the season starts.
Safety Chris Young went on injured reserve with a knee injury last week.
"Any time you lose a guy and two guys in the same position there is an impact," Denver coach Mike Shanahan said. "You are depleted in depth at that position, two guys that we felt that could help us are Browner and Chris Young."
Defensive coordinator Larry Coyer said Browner reacted to plays like veterans.
"I liked the way he reacted to reads and how quickly he came up to make plays," Coyer said.
"Fracture in the left forearm" does not sound like anyone was faking an injury.
Besides Coyer and Shanahan said he thought Browner could help them.

Thanks for pulling that up. I thought I remembered hearing good things about him last year before the injury but it's nice to see it verified.
"Promising" by no means guarantees a roster spot but it does leave room for hope. And my hope is that he could eventually be good enough to take over for Lynch. I really like Lynch but I do wonder how much longer he'll be playing. He'll be 35 early in this his 14th season. The Broncos just might keep an extra safety prospect around for Lynch's imminent retirement. (Man, it will suck to lose his leadership and intensity on the field. :()

He is one guy that can shut down a great TE, he is as physical as they come.

the good thing about it it was a fracture of the arm and not a knee injury so thats good ./.. hes got good numbers and can play zone .. i dont think hell make it this year .. its gonna be tough for the guys we want that are young to keep around due to lack of roster spots
