Will not be here ASHLEY CRY BABY LELIE. I would make him sit if he does not want to show up for camp. I think it is comical someone with these pathetic stats except for 2004 wants a new contract. What a joke and what a bust for a 1st round pick.

Med,
Ashley never asked for a new contract.
If Ashley shows up for training camp, Shanny won't be having him sit out.
Ashley's return or no return is all up to Ashley. He probably won't return though.
It's a business and he has the right to look elsewhere. Even his teammates have said the same. Howeve, he hasn't been there and if he doesn't show up then they'll move on with business as usual.

I may have misuderstood. Ashley has one year left. If he was a man he would honor it and then have his payday. my point is he is mediocre at best, maybe some of that is the play calling, but if you want to be a #1 in this league, you have to have seasons like he did in 04, not his other pathetic ones. I know you like Ashley sorry I am just putting my feelings on what I think.

First off, I think we'll be carrying six wide receivers this year given the youth we have there and talent. My charts are contingent on Lelie being here and Lelie not being here. So. . . let's begin!
Lelie on the Roster:
1. Rod Smith
2. Javon Walker
3. Ashley Lelie
4. Darius Watts
5. Brandon Marshall
6. Domenik Hixon
Lelie off the Roster:
1. Rod Smith

4. Brandon Marshall
5. Charlie Adams
6. Domenik Hixon
Have a hard time believing we'll get rid of either of our fourth round receivers, especially Marshall. Have a hard time we'll get rid of Charlie Adams if Lelie isn't here since he has valuable special teams experience, a role as a #3 receiver and time in the system. Not really sold on Devoe or Terrell. . .

This is based on Walker being able to return to his 04-05 form.
Javon Walker
Rod Smith
Darius Watts
Brandon Marshall
Charlie Adams
During minicamps, everyone was raving about Marshall. Especially Walker. He praised him very highly and said he was learning things form watching him play.
I know I'll probably be raked for putting Walker above Rod, but it's realistic. I love and cherish Rod as much as anyone. Despite that, Walker had something like 1,300 yards and 12 TDs in 04'-05'. He was emerging as a superstar, and is 27 years old. Rod is still very reliable, has great hands, blocks very well, and gets open on 3rd down. He is 36 though and takes his fair share of hard hits.

I don't see why people are only projecting 5 receivers when we carried 6 last years with a logjam of tight ends on our team. Remember, we'll probably have one receiver dedicated pretty much to special teams. . . maybe not -- no, did we add Terrell to the active in January?
It looks like now we only have three viable tight ends, Scheffler, Alexander and Jackson (if healthy) with Mike Leach as a possible 4th TE as the LS candidate, so that makes carrying more receivers a likely scenario. I don't think we'll carry more than six, but I'm wondering why people are thinking we'll only carry five?

It may be because some of our recievers bounced around the inactive lsit last season. Watts and Terrell were both on and off the list. The 5 I put I think will be active every week. If one is injured though, then someone like Hixon or Terrell will become active.

I just have the idea that with us carrying less tight ends, it makes sense to add another receiver then. Realistically, we'll carry less tight ends than last year. (We had five, I don't think we even have five viable candidates at TE.) Even though it has been said Marshall will play WR, he could be a hybrid type on the team that allows more room for another guy considering the situation.
Six receivers and four tight ends is what I'm guessing.

True. I actually grumbled a lot last season about always having Putz, Alexander, Leach, and Duke active. I think Todd Devoe has kind of gotten lsot in the mix of everything. He had a great preseason last year and made some good plays on offense and special teams during the regular season.

Those are the sure things barring injury or excruciatingly poor performances. That leaves two spots which I think will go to Adams, Hixon, or Devoe. This offseason, a lot of articles were hyping up Terrell, but I think the articles were just that - hype. I don't see him making the team. What determines the last two spot will be these two questions: Will Hixon be able to clear waivers to get onto the practice squad? Who is better - Adams or Devoe? If Hixon ends up on pratice squad, Adams and Devoe should both make the team because both have historically been very good in the preseason. If Hixon makes the active roster, one of them will have to be cut.
Also, I think undrafted free agent Brian Clark could end up on the practice squad.

Omissions-At this point I think that the Terrell talk was/is just a bunch of hot air. Lelie should be traded--it makes too much sense. Charlie Adams gets beat out by Devoe because of ST coverage ability...as well as physical talent. David Kircus...is David Kircus. Brian Clark to the practice squad.
1. Rod
2. Javon
3. Watts or Terrell (Since neither play ST, they either end up 3, or off the team)
4. Devoe (ST demon, sorry Adams, DW can return)
5. Marshall (Wont play till end of year, but he has gotta say)
IR - Hixon (I dont think Shanny risks sending him to the PS)
And my dark horse to beat out Devoe is Kircus. He has great hands, and plays ST.

Lelie Already said he don't care bout the money, he care about playing time and starting. I wonder why people use to love him soo much, and now they hate him.
It's like this. Shanahan called him out to compete here right? Well Lelie is not showing up. It's clear to me that he doesn't hold this team in high regard after he's been given a chance. I don't want someone who doesn't have their heart in it, or who does not want to compete on this team taking the spot on someone who is here giving their all.
His spot is currently the number 3 spot, if he came here to camp that might change, but for now that's what it would be. Watts, Marshall, Terrell possibly, all those people could easily be a solid number 3, and they are actually putting their heart into it and trying to succeed.
Lelie is sulking and just trying to get to a place where he believes he can compete for the number 1 job. If he came here and out-performed Rod and Javon, he could get what he wanted. Right now, with other holes on the team, I just want him traded so we can aid other holes on the team.

1. Rod Smith - Coming off Pro Bowl year, and, according to reports, not slowing down yet.
1a. Javon Walker - Heimerdinger thinks he has the potential to be the top WR in the league if healthy.
3. Darius Watts - Has been described as having "sick" talent. If he can hang onto passes, only a Smith or Walker can keep him from going higher.
4. David Terrell - Just had to grow up is all. Claims he has. If so, he can be good anywhere on the field.
5. Brandon Marshall - A stud. Only inexperience can keep him from being a serious problem for Watts and Terrell.
6. Adams, Devoe, or Hixon. Value is on ST. Adams and Devoe are experienced there, while Hixon could be a valuable return man.
Ashley has blown it. If he does come back, he will be the best deep receiver we have, but not the best receiver (all-around) by any stretch. He might fit in ahead of Terrell now, but he will have trouble with Watts, who is good deep and short.
IMHO.

I do like the idea of making Ash work his way back to the top after this. I personally think he is gutless. Not wanting to compete against a 36 year old man or a guy coming off ACL surgery. That aside, he has led the NFL in yard per catch. He must be utilized if here. Since we rarely run 4 reciever sets, he wouldn't be.

I think at the start Terrell because of his experience being in Chicago as a former #1 gets the nod over Watts as the #3. As the season progresses, Watts learns and slowly is eased into the #3 role, making him earn it more and work, and work harder during the year. Either way, Terrell and Watts are interchangable as the #3/4. Possibly mid-way through or late in the season Watts begins getting more reps as the #3.
If i have to bet, my bet would be just on something like this.
1. Rod Smith
2. Javon Walker
