Big fan of Henry and Fabregas. I have gotten into the EPL over the last few years. I try to support any team that a "Yank" plays for, but if I had to pick a favorite team in the EPL it would be the Gunners. Its just so refreshing to watch a whole half of football with out the stupid American beer and SUV commercials. Cheers to you mate!!!!

I used to feel sort of the same way, and your view was validated to some degree with all the diving that went on during the World Cup. The EPL seems different to me though. Much faster paced game action and certainly alot less diving. I watch a little of the Spanish league, not much of the Italian Seria A, but the EPL is where its at.

Well, what do you know, we have some Evertonians turning up here now as well lol. There's a couple of us from the red side of Liverpool here, but as far as I know none from the blue yet.

Good to hear that you're getting into the NFL and of course there's no better team to root for than the Broncos :D

Sadly no, I'm something of a rookie fan when it comes to American football myself, with only being a fan of the Broncos since 2004.

I'd love to make it to a game out in Denver sometime before the end of the decade though. Failing that, maybe an east coast game, or even better, hopefully the NFL will schedule a game to be held in Wembley sometime in the near future.

It's THE sport!

Why must Americans belittle sports they're not good at? Pretty soon, Saddletramp, you'll be saying basketball isn't a "sport" b/c it's been a long time since the US won anything on the international level. How'd the World Cup of Baseball go, for that matter? Or the Ryder Cup? Or Davis Cup? Those must not be "sports" either....

Luckily, you can invent new "sports" like the X-games and snowboarding....

I'm glad you chose to use a name when calling this poster out. Please don't lump all American's in the same group. Some of us are very open minded and appreciate other countries sports. I don't really understand cricket but I don't throw down on it. Good points on the other sports though, the rest of the world has caught up to us in all those sports you've mentioned. Remember we are all not the same. That would be like me saying "why do all mexicans come to the US to steal cars, and sell drugs." Its just not true.

Cool. I seem to root for players more than a specific team. I think you english football fans are even more fanatical than us american football fans. I love how active the crowd is during your games, singing songs and chants WAY more than our crowds do. Our only close comparison is college football in the south. Since I moved to NC I found out that there are some absolute maniacs down here in the south. And yes, for you lads and lasses from across the pond, North Carolina is considered the south. I'm really groovin on the EPL now though.

St James Park has by far the best atmosphere in the premiership mainly because us geordies I wouldnt say are true fans as many people support teams for the right reaosns... but I mean if youre born a Geordie you can only support one team....

all you have to do is look at how many glory supporters go for Newcastle... none ...

plus we are always so loud at St James Park hence why (most of the time) St James is a fortress when it comes to the visiting teams

but yeah ive been to Old Trafford, Chavski ****hole, Anfield, the new Emirates Stadium you name it and still nothing beats the atmosphere at St James

Yea. I have DirecTV. Satellite if you don't have it in the UK or in Kay Jay's case Ireland. We have a channel called Fox Soccer channel, and on Saturday's they usually show 3 EPL games. Then during the week, replays of other games in EPL, Spanish league(Mostly Real Madrid and Barcelona games), and a little Italian Seria A as well. I also sometimes watch a feed of Sky sports news from 7:00 to 8:00 EST, which i guess is your midnight show across the pond. Its on FSC as well. The only thing I find a little funny is when the anchors of Sky Sports News start reading and showing the British papers on TV. I hope the papers are giving them a cut. LOL

The Toon fans are very passionate about their football, I give you that. Each season, I thought that Newcastle were about to make a breakthrough, but each time they disappointed. It's about time the faithful fans got rewarded with a cup and it would have been really nice to see Shearer win something with the team. How do you feel the team will do this season? You have plenty of talent.

As for being the noisiest, the Anfield faithful can give any team a run for their money when it comes to cheering their team on. You might be interested in this old thread:

While I don't think those leagues suck, I agree with everything else you said. I got spoiled on the EPL and when I watched the world cup, I liked the atmosphere in the stadiums but the football wasn't near as exciting for me. A little of that had to do with the US poor showing. Our midfield and strikers are just plain slow and uncoordinated. I can't believe Mc Bride has lasted that long at Fulham. He suprised me. I thought he would come back here with his tail between his legs.

You get to see your fair share of action then. 3 premiership games on Saturday is excellent, better than what we get to be honest. There's no live action on regular tv here, only highlights in the evenings. I subscribe to Sky satellite, which enables me to see a game or two on Sunday, with occassional games on Saturday too.

That's kinda crappy that I get more games than you, Jaws. Dang. What do the english TV providers do? Make you buy a EPL package or something? I pay $200 US to see all the NFL games on Sunday but I dont watch anything but the Denver game when its on. I channel surf when the Broncs arent on. We also have the ability to buy an EPL package on Directv. I think it was like $360 US. I didn't get it because I already spend too much on TV out of my humble budget as it is. I don't know if they show all the games or just a select schedule. Anyway I guess I'm lucky to have the FSC since it comes with my current satellite subscription.

It's been like this for a long time. I was probably a kid when I was last able to see some live EPL action on regular tv. I subscribe to SkySports which basically includes all sports and gives you access to allsorts of sports such as rugby, soccer, golf, tennis, NBA as well as a couple of NFL games each Sunday, so being able to get a variety of sports makes it worth it. The only thing we have a chance of winning is the UEFA cup IMO. Its a shame as apart from Chavski we have the best midfielders in the premiership... I mean Duff, Dyer, Zoggy, Solano, Emre, Parker... and Given is by far the best keeper in the world.

Oh and Martins is actually amazingly good, hes as strong as anything and as quick as road runner...

Shame we cant seem to churn out the results...

Personnaly, I didn't think it was a 3-0. Arsenal played well, and scored 3 good goals, but I think the players would have been very disappointed to go in down by a goal at the break.

Once we started to push out for the equaliser, we were always likely to be exposed on the break, and that is pretty well what happened.

The only positive is that we now have an 11 game run before we play one of our big rivals again, and we've got all of our tough away fixtures out of the way before Christmas.............in 30 years I can't remember that happening before.

And it's only a month or so before we get a chance for revenge. I don't know if you saw this or not, but you're visiting Anfield for the quarter finals of the League Cup

I agree. In the first half Liverpool looked to match up well with Arsenal and if anything were the better team.

However, once they went a goal down, they seemed to lose heart.

They also missed Sissoko in midfield.

IMO, if Stevie hadn't scored twice, he'd have been Man of the Match in the cup final.

:

Yep essential. He brings something different to the table that neither of the other midfielders have. He's very competitive, battles for everything and like Den21 said can run endlessly. When he was brought to Liverpool, some pundits were touting him as someone in the Viera mould, so yes, despite being at a young age, he is sorely missed.

I agree with you there, especially the teams that are in the bottom half of the premiership.

Some papers over here are carrying various stories today about Henry & Wenger having a bust up on the training ground, and Henry leaving training early..............

In response, Thierry Henry arranged an interview with BBC Radio 5Live at lunchtime today...........

The long & the short of it, was that Henry is suffering with a sciatic nerve. He did leaving training early yesterday, and he was upset. However, Henry says he had permission to leave after treatment, as he wasn't going to take part in today's North London Derby. He went on to say that he was upset that he wasn't able to play, that it would be the first Spurs game that he'd missed since joining the Gunners, and that the injury wouldn't allow him to play.

What may be of concern though is that he may miss the Chelsea game next weekend........................

How 'bout that Chelsea game Saturday. WHAT A GAME. I was hoping for a win obviously, but that was a great game. I consider myself lucky to have witnessed that. I wish Henry was playing, the Gunners might have gotten the full three points.

I had sciatica two years ago from, of all things, playing soccer. I feel for Henry. It's going to be some time before he can go back to playing. It took me about 2 months seeing a physical therapist (who did nothing, receommended some exercises) and an acupuncturist (who actually cured me) before I felt better. Six months later, however, I had to do some more follow-up visits b/c swollen disc flared up again.

With all the twisting and pounding and jumping that goes on in a game, I see this as a recurring problem for Henry. Your back never really goes back to normal.

Have a one-year-old who just started walking. She's been keeping me busy, but I don't mind. Also, my vacation is about to end here in 2 weeks. I'm a teacher, and school starts January 3rd.

Thanks for asking. I've lurked the boards here and there these past few months. Haven't got a real opportunity to catch any soccer games on TV (or in person, for that matter). Went to see the Broncos v. Chargers in SD, though. It's our family tradition. (We've gone the past 5 years.)

Yeah i was really disapointed it was called off but there you go. On TV it showed one of the Liverpool players kicking the ball at the referee and i think what they were trying to say was "Hey we can see you so let the game begin"

I think they probably should have played it but if there was a contreversial decision and the referee couldn't see well enough then it isn't fair on the referee to make a desicion.

Maybe, but they normally make decisions as if they can't see anyway :D

The annoying thing is how late they leave it. Arsenal's flight got diverted from John Lennon to Blackpool, as the airport was closed almost all day.

And why decide at 6:15 to make a decision at 6:45?

Arsenal played well, I don't know what our defenders were thinking for the second goal, there's no way Rosicky can be given that sort of time and space. His first goal was class though.

Henry's was one of those if the scores were level, Carra would have put it into row Z.........trailing with 5 minutes to play though, he tried to keep the ball in play and Henry did well to escape with the the ball and scored a good goal.

It is a strange phenomenon. I think some of it has to do with Moaninho being such a controversial figure. Abrahmovich too, he gives me the creeps whenever I see him and then of course there's the big money factor.

Take that purple nose man.

Arsenal 2-1 Manchester United.

Rooney got the first goal and after 83 minutes RVP (Robin Van Persie) scored and then with 92 minutes gone Henry scores.

The winner by Henry was a very sweet header.

What a game!!! I was going to nominate Rosicky for the goat of the match. It seemed like he had at least half a dozen chances from the top of the box, never even making Van Der Sar(sp) make a save. Big round of applause goes out to Van Persie, and of course Henry. Exciting game.

As for the whole Chelsea thing. I compare them right now to the New York Yankees. All the money, always picking up top players, I find it hard to root for them. No hatred here though. I am a newbie to the EPL, only been following for about 3 years. What a league, what great football. :salute:

Kuyt is a very talented player, he seems to be able to do a bit of everything and works hard.

Van Persie has really matured this season and has been excellent.

How are Feyenoord doing this season?

Well, itīs hard season for us. Itīs a post Kuytseason. Last friday we are suspended by UEFA for the next UEFA cupgames after the "problems" :fight: in Nancy, France. We had 2 nice games versus the Spurs. But thatīs over now. Liverpool is doing better, isnīt it?

Liverpool has a tough week earlier this month, losing to Arsenal twice and going out of both cup competititons, but they have been on a good run of form in the league recently and I was overjoyed with the 2-0 win over the champions Chelsea over the weekend. Of course, there is also the big Champions League game against Barca to come next month, a mouthwatering encounter.

I hope Feyenoord's fortunes take a better turn soon. Losing a player like Kuyt is bound to leave a big gap. He was excellent over the weekend and one paper ws comparing him to Alan Shearer in his prime.

May be you think it's unfair but remember how english teams payed for the Heysel... as far as these *censored* guys could attend to games and act like that, I think those decisions will have to be taken... alas...
Why do you say "problems" ??? Do you think it was a normal & correct behaviour ?

I would say that too if it was about a French team... Stadiums should be a show area, and not some boxing area...

But I guess we are off topic as long as this thread was about Arsenal  :D

Back to the topic, Gunners did a great job against Manure... I don't think though they would win the PL... Wenger & co are doing a great job with young players... If they could keep the players, this team would be great in a few years...

The only problem with using Heysel is that there were a number of contributing factors to that tragedy, not merely the Liverpool fans on the rampage.

I was in Rome the year before, and leaving for the airport after the game the bis I was on was attacked by Italian youths, the window next to me was smashed, and there's lots of footage of Liverpool fans returning to Merseyside battered and bloodied...........................one of my clearest memories is of 7 or 8 mopeds tearing around the streets, each with two youths on, and the one not controlling the moped having a 2 or3 foot length of wood in their hands..............

The following year, when Liverpool reached the final against another Italian club, there was a lot of bad vibes going around that Liverpool fans wouldn't be the only ones at the final, we never really had a hooligan hardcore and were known for our behaviour in Europe. But the word was that other English 'firms' had taken offence at the Italians behaviour and were looking for payback, hooligans from West Ham, Newcastle, Chelsea and a number of other English clubs were expected to be in attendance.

As for the venue itself, both Peter Robinson, the Liverpool Chairman, and his Italian counterpart had criticised the state of the stadium, especially the area where the wall eventually collapsed. Additionally , because of a papal visit the week prior to the match the police and emergency services had an overtime ban in place, so the units at the match were shorthanded, whilst at the same time dealing with new equipment.

What I'm saying is that there's a whole sequence of events and occurences, too many for me to coherently type, that led to that tragedy, that has left a stain on Liverpool's history that can and never should be erased or alleviated................but IMO it's about time, and I don't know the in's & out's of the Feyenoord situation, that UEFA actually took action on this, rather than just threatening to do so. It should have been done with Roma last year, or was it the year before, but unfortunatley banning clubs/nations may be the only way for some 'people' (you can't call them fans) to learn.

One other point......certainly with Cup Finals and the Euros/World Cup...........if UEFAand FIFA want to ban clubs/nations because of crowd trouble, then they need to give control of ticketing to the clubs or nations involved...........they can't keep selling tickets willy nilly, and then crying when they get into the 'wrong' hands

The highlights are always biast. They never tell the full story.

We could have had a penalty and the first goal could have been offside. I wish the FA would bring in a Video Replay like in the NFL.

The situation at the end was terrible. Lampard should have been sent off but because he is English the referee keeps him on. Its all good sending off Mikel, Toure and Adebayor but Lampard defenitley caused alot of problems and should have been sent off.

I was completely disgusted by the team untill Thomas Rosicky and Freddie Ljungberg came on and started fighting. I stand by these words " Untill Arsene Wenger sorts the team out I WILL NOT be a Arsenal fan." and the reason for that is becuase the team CAN get better but Arsene Wenger proceeds to be a something head and it's holding the team back. I feel sorry for the Arsenal fans who made the jurney.

Arsenal need some character. Remember Tony Adams, Ian Wright, Dennis Berkamp, Martin Keown and those sorts of players? If we had that sort of character playing for us today I would have been much happier becuase the team wouldn't have been half asleep and would have atleast kept fighting for the fans. We also need a striker that can actually finish ( Baptista can go back and sit on the Real Madrid bench). A winger who can keep the ball for more than 2 seconds ( Hleb can go play for Dover) and a defender.

Anyway I will end my new rant at Arsenal by saying this to all Liverpool fans:

Your a great team and I wouldn't have wanted to lost to anyone else, you played well and good luck in the Champions Leage ( since Arsenal are out I am supporting you guys in the CL) . :thumb:

Yeah that was pretty hard to watch! It sucks spending the last 3 months trying to prove to others that Crouchy has improved (he's not the guy who screwed up thousands of good chances in the World Cup for England) and then he scores a hat-trick against Arsenal. :(

Lost & Found

Lost, in or around the Anfield area of Liverpool on Saturday, March 31st:

1 Voice, male.

if found please return to Den21-Bal19

:goofy:

On to the game:

Liverpool's players played like they had a point to prove to their new owners, and came out of the blocks like a cork out of a champagne bottle. From the very first, Arsenal were pretty well put on the backfoot. Crouch was sublime up front, forget this crap about having a good touch for a big guy, he's got a good touch full stop! Carra was imperious as usual, he truly is the 11th Commandment:

Thou Shalt Not Get Past

Arsenal, IMO, played pretty well at times, but lacked the cutting edge that Henry provides............that being said, it took a bit of luck and a fantastic relflex save from Pepe for the clean sheet...............

Missed the game today. I usually catch the replay later in the week if I'm busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sounds like a pisser of a game. I know for a fact that I don't have as much emotion or time invested in the Gunners as you do. I'm still a EPL newb. Sorry for your agony. Didn't Arsenal go undefeated during the EPL season only a few years back? :salute:

I hardly watch the Gunners either. The only reason I am passionate about it now is becuase NFL season is over.

As it should be, FIFA, IMO, have vastly devalued the WC by making the defending Champions qualify.

The BS can't blame us if the FA didn't stick with their ruling from the previous season or the 'gentelmans' agreement that other FA's have stuck to ;)

A new rant from me.

Roman I don't care how you spell his name is ruining the Premiership. I grow tired of watching Chelsea win because I know it's only because of the money.

If Abromovich hadn't taken over they would be in financial trouble and they would be terrible. Instead they keep buying players all the time. A have always said that the Premiership NEEDS a Salary Cap to stop Chelsea spending all this money. You watch. If Chelsea don't win the CL then they will go and buy Tevez, Micah Richards, Franck Ribery, Fernando Torres and who knows who else. Why? Because they are cheats that can't win the proper way and have to do the unfair thing and spend 1 Billion pounds so they can win.

I hope Liverpool wipe the pitch with Abromovich's wallet.

TheWookieeBronco

3-1. Good score. But the fans were booing the team.

A American buisness man has bought up alot of shares of Arsenal. He wants to buy the team all together but the current Chairman, Peter Hill-Wood, says "no!"

Hey Den21, Jawsy, SmithOverTO and any other Liverpool fan.

Look at the table. You may have a game in hand but you also have the CL which means you will most likely drop points.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, you've certainly got the more difficult run in:

Arsenal Remaining Games

Saturday, 21 April 2007
Barclays Premiership
Tottenham v Arsenal, 12:45 (Draw)

Sunday, 29 April 2007
Barclays Premiership
Arsenal v Fulham, 16:00 (Win)

Sunday, 06 May 2007
Barclays Premiership
Arsenal v Chelsea, 16:00 (Lose)

Sunday, 13 May 2007
Barclays Premiership
Portsmouth v Arsenal, 15:00 (Draw)

5 points from remaining 4 games, best case would be 10.

Liverpool Remaining Games

Wednesday, 18 April 2007
Barclays Premiership
Liverpool v Middlesbro', 20:00 (Win)

Saturday, 21 April 2007
Barclays Premiership
Liverpool v Wigan, 15:00 (Win)

Saturday, 28 April 2007
Barclays Premiership
Portsmouth v Liverpool, 15:00 (Lose - bit of a bogey side)

Saturday, 05 May 2007
Barclays Premiership
Fulham v Liverpool, 15:00 (Win)

Sunday, 13 May 2007
Barclays Premiership
Liverpool v Charlton, 15:00 (Win)

12 points from 5 games, worst case would be 7 points. Plus we've got the goal difference advantage, which is worth a point ;)
