I hope so South.

My early season predicitons are in my blog below.

In the East I see Carolina vs Buffalo again and out West I see
the Duck vs the Sharks.

Just some humble opinon.

For Avs fans, I see them in the 7th spot making the playoffs. :salute:

Ok.

They were solid, and they should be again, but I think Calgary's trade with the Avs REALLY helped them out.

And Detroit really had a great regular season last year. That should not be discounted.

By the way.

God damn Maple Leafs once again got worn out by a faster and younger Ottawa Senators squad. After this season we need to fire John Ferguson and get a credible GM in there who doesn't just sign old timers to slow us down. Raycroft looked decent behind the dreadful Toronto defense, Mats Sundin was once again our only real productive offensive player.

As for my pick, I'll go with the Senators and the Ducks in the finals, with the Ducks ultimately coming out on top. Why would I pick the Sens you say?

Well, their goaltending is looking very good with Gerber starting in net, who looked fantastic against Toronto last night, and also an above average young goalie in Emery to back him up. Their offense hasn't changed that much from last year, so it should be just as fast and as potent. I'm worried about their defence with Chara leaving but I think speed and goaltending will make up for it. I hate the Sens, but I think the only reason they didn't win it all last year was because Hasek getting injured was such a blow to thier morale and such a big step for Emery to take in one season, with such high expectations from Sens fans.

As Med already said the Ducks are perhaps the best defensive team in the league now with Neidermeyer and Pronger on seperate lines, maybe the two best defensemen in the NHL. They have a young talented offense and great goaltending with Giguere and Bryzgalov to push eachother for the starting job.

Should be a fun season and hopefully my Maple Leafs can get into the playoffs, I doubt it though...

Another reason Anaheim will be good - Dustin Penner. The guy is a frickin' beast.

San Jose could be good, Phoenix will be good, Colorado will be as good as they were last year, Ottawa will win the East, Anaheim will win the west, and Ottawa will win the Stanley Cup. :coffee: All in a day's work.

two nights in a row. thats just cruel. i know people are going to start saying that this is the beggining of the end for the avs, but there are still positives. We have 2 points. Our goaltending has been superb, with both goalies getting playing time. Our young guys are stepping up as well. This is a team that is going to experience a lot of come from behind games, and a lot of heart-breaking OT losses early in the season. We are a young team that has to learn to finish what we start. I think life will be better on the defensive when leopold comes back. Other than that, i really have no complaints. we are playing solid hockey, we just cant seem to catch a break early on.

the avs can be contenders if our young guns can clean up their defensive acts. those guys can score, no question, but they need to be bigger figures in our own zone. i beleive 4 out of the six goals have been scored while our young guys were out there ( wolski, richardson, stastny, svatos). With Q, that will happen more than likely before sundays decontruction of Vancouver :D .

big prediction time. Stastny cannot be sent to the minors. He is going to be crucial this year, simply because of his passing abilities. The guy can send the puck anywhere any time. This tells me that turgeon is gone. i am guessing that because it is more than likely his last year, we will send him to columbus who still needs another veteran out on the ice, and hopefully get footer back for the remainder of the season ( and most likely career). avs fans still miss foote, and hes just not having as much success in ohio as he did in denver. my guess would be that this trade could happen as early as late november.

theodore was not at his best last night. overall, i think the avs played well, and i have officially decided that we cannot afford to let stasty go down to the minors this season. i think that the avs played a solid game, they just need to work on getting the lower lines to grind the front of the net a little better. if we can crowd that area, life will be good.

turgeon for foote- i dont see any way that cbj makes this trade. turgeon sucks, well not really but he is old and not playing his best hockey if you know what i mean, foote is still a fighter and can still bring a lot to the table, but i would LOVE to see it happen- or maybe r nash-that kid is sick.

what i think the avs need.

1. defense to stand the guys up at the blueline, we need a hard nose bad ass person who will throw the body around and punish those who think they can just come in and wont get hit.

2. similiar to above we need someone to check some people, we are not intimidating enoigh

3. we could use another real good high scorer, to compliment all the young talent we got. my fav which everyone is tired fo hearing would be drury, but a solid vet who puts up the numbers

AvsFan26
10-17-2006, 06:18 AM
we will get the solid blue liner once leopold returns, which should be sometime in the next week or two. once mccormick gets off of IR we can have a solid body guy, and as far as a solid goal scorer, well, thats why this team is being counted out of the playoffs. we dont have that bonafied goal getter yet, and i think we need someone like wolski or svatos to step up and get goals on a nightly basis. personally, im blaming the last two wins on theo getting complacent. those two game winners were simply him just not concentrating. other than that i have no real complaints about this team. we can get the job done, we just need effort from everyone, something that the avs arent used to needing.

Great start to the year this far for the Wild though... they can afford to be without Gaborik for a couple weeks (and so can the team I'm neck-and-neck with for first place in my pool;)).

alwilson91 - I think the Leafs can be a playoff team this year, I really do. The defense is younger and better, as soon as Kubina gets back and Wade Belak gets sent to the ECHL where he belongs, they'll be in good shape.

Oh, and Buffalo won again tonight, they look awesome.

Peter was solid in the net tonight! Has not given up a thrid period goal yet this year! Iam really liking how Milian is playing with the young guys on some line combos, Wolski and Stastny! Arnasson was a grreat pick up IMO! Having a good start to the season, getting pucks in the net! It is a young team and if they can get soild goaltending from Theo and Peter we should be able to have a good season! Iam really looking forward to see how this team progresses. Jordan Leopold is still on IR so when he can get into the line up with Liles, the D should countinue to improve!

As you can see I am very happy with there win tonight! Taking advantage of the power play, scoring 3, 5 on 3 goals and a total of 5 in the second period! Lets get a solid season going Av's! THe bumps will come but I like the mix of veterns and young guns!

hejduk scored a goal off his face. no one can top that lol!!!!!
I too am impressed with budaj, but im still leaning towards theo. Folks, the avs have two great goal tenders in net, and i hope that will continue for a couple of years to come. Whether goals get let in depends on whether our defense shows up to play or not. Look at the games that theo "lost for us" and you will see little to no movement in defensive zone. this team will succeed if we can keep the puck moving in the zone. both of our goalies are great at watching for the shot. if we let a man sit there with the puck and then let people move around him, we are going to get scored on. if we force that man to give up the puck, it will greatly decrease the possibility of someone getting set up in our zone, and will increase the chance of us intercepting the puck. this is even true on the power play. we have forwards and defenseman who can succeed if they just keep the puck moving. that will decide whether our net gets pelted or not.

alright folks, two things that will have to be done to give this avs team more offensive production. I would give serious consideration to switching anti laaksonen and ian lapperriere. putting laperriere with stastny and wolski is doing no good right now, as lapperriere is a player who needs to grind it out in front for the rebounds. If you stick him with richardson, who has the great snap shot, and rycroft, a pretty darn good passer, you would see a lot more results from quick passes in front and rebounds. Laaksonen is the guy that wolski and stastny need to be a force in the cycle, and to help cover the corners when stastny is waiting behind the net and wolski is in front. laaksonen has the speed to do this, whereas lappy is more ment to be waiting in front. i know this sounds really weird and specific, but i really think that it would help us get some more goals. defense is playing wonderfully right now, and i think that this move is the thing to get both sides on the same page.

avsfan sighs in relief!!!! the avs were very solid defensively last night, and they took advantage of turnovers to shut the team down like we were supposed to. if we keep playing like that, we are going to win some more games than we have been. and budaj, i love ya, but that shut out goes to Klee and Vaananen!

AvsFan26
11-18-2006, 08:31 PM
budaj had another solid game tonight, but avs fans should not worry about theo having success once he inevitably gets the start on monday. this team has a renewed vigor for defensive playing, and we showed it tonight. if anyone watched, we kept minnesota on the perimeter through most of the game, including their power play opportunities. except for that insane tip by koivu, budaj was given a clear look at almost all of the shots, and both of our goalies can stop those pucks easily. the offense is there too, no question-minnesota is just a great defensive club. our confidence is back, and as long as we keep the backchecking and forechecking up, we should be back to fighting for a playoff spot.

Lots of trade rumors yesterday about Peter Forsberg being traded to San Jose or Colorado. He said yesterday that they were not true. I read on one website that there were talks of Budaj and Liles to Philly for Peter. now were starting to roll again! wolski got the wake up call after being benched and i would say that him and stastny are back in business. Its good to see shots from the point starting to go our way. clark got his first of the year, and he definetly deserved that. i would say that Cody McCormick needs to get some more skating time right now. He is showing a good deal of strength against the boards, and that is definetly usefull on our fourth line. This guy is going to start putting up more numbers, but expect to see him earn his paycheck with his fists, not his stick. And Leopold might be back this week!!!!!!! WOOOT!!!!!!!

when youve got a team desperate for defensive scoring ( cough carolina cough), then you will be inclined to trade for breezy. really, you just need to stick him with a guy willing to baby-sit for a paycheck. Brisebois is struggling but able defensive player, but hes got enough of an offensive upside that someone would take him. trust me.

btw, avs are on a roll, and wolski finally looks like he is into the game again

As much as I hate to say it but I don't think my Carolina Hurricanes ( STANLEY CUP CHAMPS!!!!!!!!) will make the playoffs this year, I am getting tired of Cam Ward's play, he is not consistant.

good win for us. i thought theo was finally on his game. the goals he let in were good hard working goals for the other team. he made some beautiful saves, and just seemed a lot more relaxed than past games.

btw, jassen cullimore has one heck of a backhand!!! seriously it takes skill to beat Khabibulin, so congrats to Jassen!!!!

alright i apologize. it truly must be the worst feeling in the world to score on your own goal. it was a bad play for him, but good persistence by wolski. people will say that he shouldnt have had that goal, but he earned it, and forced cullimore into that "clearing attempt"

As i said on the avs thread, theodore is now under plummer status in my opinion. My girlfriend paid good money to get us seats 17 rows from the ice, and theo throws the game away like he did. There is a reason why we're getting beat when we throw 35 + shots on net and put it in 4 times. And its happening more often than not when Theo's in net. Trade him away for anything, if nothing else just to get his salary out of the way. Get Budaj and Weiman going on a tandem thing, and i gaurantee you that they will together perform better than theodore did. I know people will say that i am trading Theodore for Weiman, but for 5.5 million dollars, we could have a freaking Pavol Demitra on our team. Weiman has a 450,000 dollar contract, and one hell of a lot of potential. Coach Q is close to the mind set where i am. It hurts when you have a 5.5 million dollar bust. Lets go ahead and keep the rebuilding trend going, and bring out the young guns full throttle. they will be exciting to watch, and we will still be in the playoff hunt this year, and will be contenders soon again.

Mile High Stud, Sean Avery pisses me off. There are two players in this league that i cant stand. Todd Bertuzzi and Sean Avery( Patrice Brisebois and Jose Theodore are no longer hockey players as far as I am concerned). Dont ask me why, im probably still grouchy over the whole french-canadien comment, but it is just beyond me how a player with such little skills can succeed ( speaking of which, does Peter Worell still have a job :) ).

Well next year you guys are going to reap the benefits of the Canes (my teams) stupid trade with Jack Johnson. He is going to be a star. I hope he does well for you guys. I just wished he stayed in Carolina but he was not going to

Tim Gleason is mediocre and Belanger was a baby in Carolina and got traded.

From my perspecitve I hope this trade does not set back the Canes for 4 years, like thier stupid trade of Ron Francis in 1991 when with hartford :(

Now I know why Med doesn't like Lindy Ruff at all. He sends his five goons out against Ottowa's skilled line to provoke a fight because he thought classy Chris Neil cheapshotted Drury.

I actually have to give Ruff Credit on that one

Ruff is a loser but he in a sense was right. If Chris Neil cheap shotted Bergeron or Eric Staal I would hope Dave Lewis or laviolette would take action.

I just would love to see Cam Neely or Kevin Dineen smack that little punk Ruff in the beak. He deserves it. Him, Dale Hunter, Claude Lemieux and Ulfie some of the people I ablsoltely hated in hockey. Cam could crush that little punk Ruff

FINAL STRETCH: The Ducks have won five straight games, the longest current streak in the NHL...the club has also earned points in eight consecutive (7-0-1) contests and 12 of the last 13 games (9-1-3)...including Wednesday's contest, the Ducks have 12 games remaining in the 2006-07 regular season...of those 12 games, five are home and seven are road games...five (three home, two road) of the games are against Pacific Division teams.
FIGHTING FOR THE TOP SPOT: The Ducks have a record of 42-17-11 for 95 points…Anaheim leads the Pacific Division and is 2nd in the Western Conference...the club is looking to secure their first Division title and attempting to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in consecutive years for the first time in franchise history...the Ducks have recorded points in 53 of 70 games this season (95 of a possible 140).
FASTEST TO 90: Anaheim reached the 90-point plateau in 67 games this season (40-17-11, 91 pts.), seven games faster than the club's previous record of 74 games set last season (39-23-12, 90 pts.)...this is only the third time the club has reached the 90-point plateau (also 2005-06 with 98 pts. and 2002-03 with 95 pts.).
A THOUSAND REASONS TO CELEBRATE: With a win last game versus Vancouver, the Ducks reached the 1,000-point milestone (423-444-155, 1,001 pts)...the Ducks and Ottawa Senators both reached the 1,000-point plateau in 1,022 games, the fastest among all early 1990’s expansion teams:

Team NHL Entry Year Games Played to Reach 1,000 Points
Anaheim 1993-94 1,022
Ottawa 1992-93 1,022
San Jose 1991-92 1,110
Florida 1993-94 currently at 966 pts. with 1,021 games played

LIGHTING THE LAMP: The Ducks have scored three-or-more goals in seven of their last eight games (28 goals)...Anaheim has also scored 18 power play goals over the last 13 games (18-for-63, 28.6%)...the club has scored two-or-more PP goals in four of the last six and seven of the last 13 contests…the Ducks rank 3rd in the NHL in both total goals (224) and PP% for the season (76-for-348, 21.8%).
MARCHING AT HOME: Wednesday's game is the sixth of an eight-game homestand, tying the longest in club history (1996-97 & 2001-02)...the Ducks have won all five games of the homestand so far, with a home winning streak of six games dating back to Feb. 25 vs. COL (longest active home win streak in the NHL)..should the Ducks record a win Wednesday, it will tie the club's longest home winning streak (March 7-April 4, 2006)...the opening weekend of the homestand included contests against Division rival San Jose on March 2 (W, 3-1) and Conference-leading Nashville on March 4 (SOW, 3-2)...the club also secured victories against Phoenix on March 7 (W, 2-1), Edmonton on March 9 (W, 5-1) and most recently Vancouver on March 11 (W, 4-2)...the Ducks will next face Chicago on March 16...the homestand concludes with the cross-town rival Los Angeles Kings on March 18 for the eighth and final meeting between the two teams this season.
SELANNE AMONG LEAGUE'S BEST: Teemu Selanne is the first player in NHL history age 35-or-older to record consecutive 40-plus goal seasons (40-50=90 last season and 41-40=81 so far this season)...this is the 7th time in his career he has hit the 40-plus goal plateau, the most among all active NHL players...the last player older than 35 to score MORE goals than Selanne was Mark Messier, who had 47 at age 35 with the New York Rangers (Brendan Shanahan also had 40 goals last season at age 37)...among league leaders, Selanne is currently 3rd in the NHL and 1st in the Western Conference in goals (41)...he is 1st in the NHL in power play goals (22) and T-2nd in game-winning goals (9), which include two overtime winners...Selanne enters with points in six of the last eight games (5-4=9) and 9-9=18 points in his past 13 games...he has points in 15 of the last 18 home games, earning 11-13=24 points during that span.

ANOTHER NORRIS PERFORMANCE?: Ducks defensemen Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger are both candidates to win another Norris Trophy...Niedermayer (12-44=56) and Pronger (11-42=53) both have 50-plus points, marking the first time in club history two defensemen have hit that plateau (prior to this season no pair of Ducks defensemen had each recorded 40-or-morepoints):

-Captain Scott Niedermayer ranks 3rd in the NHL in points among defensemen...he has points in 16 of his last 28 games (6-19=24)...he had an eight-game assist streak (2-10=12 points) Dec. 26, 2006-Jan. 11, 2007, which was the longest point streak of his career and by a player in club history...in addition, Niedermayer leads the club in ice time and is 2nd overall in the NHL in avg. TOI...on Dec. 31 @ MIN, Niedermayer set a club record for TOI with 34:00 and then broke that mark on Jan. 9 @ NSH with 35:51 (real time records kept since the start of the 1998-99 season)...on Nov. 28 @ EDM, Niedermayer played in his 1,000th career NHL game.

-Despite missing nine games with a broken foot Jan. 2-19 and is expected to miss 2 weeks with a broken toe, defenseman Chris Pronger is 6th in points among NHL defensemen and 4th overall in avg. TOI...Pronger is 1st on the the Ducks and T-7th in the NHL in plus/minus...in addition, he is 1st in points per game (.91) among NHL defensemen...when Pronger was injured Dec. 31 @ MIN, he was T-4th in the NHL in assists.

THIS PAIR HAS BEEN TOUGH TO BEAT: Since the start of the 2006 calendar year, no two players have combined to earn more points than Teemu Selanne and Andy McDonald...together they've earned 265 points and both rank among the league's top-10 scorers in that period...below are the NHL's top point producers since Jan. 1, 2006:

KIDS TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL: After putting up impressive numbers playing on the same line for a portion of the 2005-06 season in Portland (AHL), Dustin Penner, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry have found their stride playing on the same line for the Ducks in the past seven games...since Feb. 26 @ SJ, the trio has scored 9-9=19 points...Penner, 24, has scored 6-1=7 points, Getzlaf, 21, has recorded 2-6=8 points and Perry, also 21, has earned 1-3=4 during that span.

I've been a Flyers fan my whole life, and this season has been rough for me, I'm still hanging in there though, the future looks bright for my flyers. Also living near denver I've become an Aves fan too, so i am going to have to cheer for the aves, since the flyers wont make it in the playoffs.

I don't think it's Carlisle's fault at all, did you see how many breakaways the defense gave up?

he should motivate them better during line changes! he hardly says anything while in the bench. if he pushes them more i would expect better from the players. they looked tired and out of it. pronger being out hurt us in the game because of how sloppy the defense was. motivation!!!!!!!motivation carlisle and you will hoist lord stanley's cup!!! go ducks kings are a mere pebble in your road to greatness!

Still a lot of hockey left.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Ducks, a team many considered a leading Stanley Cup contender heading into the season, have taken a first step.

They're in the playoffs.

Scott Niedermayer scored with 2:32 remaining in overtime to lift Anaheim to a 3-2 victory over Dallas on Friday night and clinch a postseason berth for the Ducks.

Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle wasn't exactly popping champagne corks.

"It's nice to clinch a playoff spot, but nobody is talking about that for us. We're in, but what does it mean?" he said. "Right now it's about getting our team to play at the top of their game and be more consistent with what we do.

"We'll see how we can carry this out onto the road, and it starts Monday night in Detroit."

The Ducks also set club records for victories (44) and points (100) in a season, bettering the marks they established last season.

Chris Kunitz had two power-play goals for Anaheim, with Niedermayer assisting on the second.

Niedermayer scored his 13th goal of the season on a slap shot down the slot that sailed past goalie Marty Turco and into the top-right corner of the net.

"When it's four-on-four, there's a lot of opportunity to change positioning and move around," said Niedermayer, a defenseman. "Obviously for me, that's a strength in my game. I was trying to help the forwards and move around a bit, making it hard on the other guys -- and it worked out."

Niedermayer's goal and assist gave him 64 points and 51 assists this season, both career highs for the former Norris Trophy winner as the league's top defenseman.

Kunitz scored his second goal of the game to draw the Ducks even at 2-2 at 4:56 of the third period, just 3:16 after Mike Modano had given the Stars the lead.

"We put the puck in behind them a lot and hit them in hopes to kind of wear them down, and it kind off paid off in the third," Kunitz said.

With players from both teams scrambling for the puck in the slot, the puck popped out to Kunitz, all alone at the edge of the crease. The goal was Kunitz's 25th.

Modano scored on a wraparound shot for his 19th goal.

Both teams played with high energy.

"Good speed, good intensity, all of the above in that game," Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. "Scoring chances and some great goaltending, a little bit of everything.

"I liked the way we competed. I thought Turco gave us some big saves, and we fumbled a bit with the puck. But (Jean-Sebastien) Giguere made some great saves for them."

Turco faced 35 shots, and the Stars had 36 shots at Giguere.

Anaheim all-star and former Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Chris Pronger was back in the lineup after missing seven games with a broken left toe. Pronger was hurt during a post-game workout on March 4.

The Stars' Sergei Zubov had tied it 1-1 with an unassisted goal on a first-period power play shortly after Kunitz had put the Ducks ahead.

Kunitz scored his first goal with eight seconds remaining on a power play.
