It's been confirmed, the plane that crashed into a NYC residential building was Cory Lidle's.

The 34 year old always wanted to fly and recently got his license.

From ESPN.com

NEW YORK -- A small plane piloted by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle crashed it
into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan's Upper East Side, raining flaming debris onto the sidewalks below and rattling New Yorkers' nerves five years after the Sept. 11 attack.

Lidle died in the crash.

The twin-engine plane came through a hazy, cloudy sky and hit the 20th floor of The Belaire -- a red-brick tower overlooking the East River, about five miles from the World Trade Center -- with a loud bang, touching off a raging fire that cast a pillar of black smoke over the city and sent flames shooting from four windows on two adjoining floors.

Small planes aren't required to be in contact with air traffic control(as they are usually used for sight seeing).

The conditions were very hazy and it appears he lost track of his surroundings.

Lidle was the pilot.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and friends, and to those of the others killed, and the Yankee organization.

New news, apparently Lidle was the only one on the plane, and the 3 other deaths were residents in the building.

Linky (http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/story?id=2555263&page=1&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312)

A small plane with New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle aboard crashed into a 50-story condominium tower today on Manhattan's Upper East Side, killing at least two people — including Lidle — and raining flaming debris on sidewalks, authorities said.

Federal Aviation Administration records show the single-engine plane was registered to Lidle, and FBI reports show that Lidle's passport was found at the scene. The FBI believed Lidle was the only person aboard the plane and the other three deaths occurred inside the building.

The twin-engine plane came through a hazy, cloudy sky and hit the 20th floor of the Belaire — a red-brick tower overlooking the East River, about 5 miles from the World Trade Center site — with a loud bang, touching off a raging fire that cast a pillar of black smoke over the city and sent flames shooting from four windows on two adjoining floors.

This is such a sad story.

It's always so weird when things like this happen to pro atheletes. It really puts things into perspective.

RIP Mr. Lidle; God bless you and your family.
