Is it just me or have our TEs been MIA recently? I'm a big advocate of getting Jake off to a good start in the passing game by limiting him to short, safe throws. Normally, this means the TE, but, honestly, I don't think Alexander's number was called last game and Sheff is becoming "Son of Watts" (gets open, but doesn't make the catch). Is there light at the end of the tunnel, or are we going shopping for another TE in the off-season?

They're doing fine...our offense is just in shambles right now. Give it time. We're 3-1...still have 12 games left. It'll start clicking.

I've noticed that also. I'm hoping for Scheffler its just rookie jitters, if he can settle down and make some catches like he did in pre-season I think he has a promising career. I'm not sure why Alexander isn't getting many passes his way. I'd like to see at least a few catches from the TE's, I think it would help open up the offence.

Alexander is not a receiving threat, and hasn't been for years now. Scheffler is a rookie with inflated expectations, at this point in time.

Yeah, but the serious lack of production from the TE's is one of the reasons our O is in shambles.

We should have kept Putz for another year and dumped Nate. Maybe give Scheffler some mop-up duty this season to get his feet wet. I don't think he's mentally ready to play right now.

Most of Scheff's non catches have been Plummer's fault. I am not going to say he hasn't dropped anything, but very few balls thrown to him have been on target.

What I have notice is that our young TE, does not runs good routes yet and sometimes he looks stiff.

I can't put my finger on it. but he reminds me of Lelie. He stops ahead of time and don't run great routes.

now give a year and he will do fine. he was playing baseball a lot, so no a lot of time for football before.

Scheff has the rookie deer in the head lights look. He will get better.

Stilll would like to see what Jackson can do. Alexander is.... Alexander.

Mustard good blocking TE.

Jake hasn't been looking their way at all so far.

However, I think it goes beyond that.

If you watch, defenses haven't been putting 8-9 in the box to stop the run like they did last year. It's obvious that defenses have decided to surrender some ground game in order to keep Jake in the pocket more.

The result has LBs staying back, which crowds the short to intermediate passing routes our TEs are known for.

Also, if you have been following Shanny's offenses for very long, you know that most passes to the TE come from the roll out. Again, with the changes in defensive strategies, there are fewer roll outs, thus fewer roll out passes to the TE.

I appreciate the insight here. Many things are hard to pick up that you can convey
from being there at the game.

It would seem to me, then, that some two- to three-step drops and quick slants
would be effective to get under those LBs. Except for Denver and Baltimore, the
LBs usually aren't as quick as the better TEs and the WRs, of course, and often
find it hard to adjust to passes underneath them.

Maybe I'm all wet, but I thought I'd throw that out.

*sigh* Bubba Franks would have been cool here in Denver...him, along with Walker could of done well.

I agree. Second half of Baltimore game those quick slants were being run by Rod. That got him going (I think he was shut out in 1st half), and that seemed to have jump started the offense.

As far as my comments about Sheff, I like the guy. It's just that I find it exasperating when he gets open, the ball is catchable.... and he whiffs!! The talent is there (as shown in pre-season); it's just that I'd like to see it being used. If he's got speed, put him in the slot and send him deep; perhaps that will clear out some space for underneath routes.

Yeah, I know. Art Shell and Al Davis are so stupid. If you don't want him, then release him or trade him. I don't see the point in having him sit around and do nothing. They've proved how bad of a team they are this year by doing stupid things like this. They should have at least traded him from something in return for him not doing anything. Once this season is over with, he's gone and they get nothing in return, what a bunch of idoits. :hammer:

Well here we are round one of Faider Hater in Bronco Nation. :fight:

Oakland is on the ropes, and Denver is trying to find it's potent offense still.

But you can never count a good rivalry out.

The Faiders have nothing to lose at this point so why not pull out all the stops.

The Denver D is high flying and hard tackling and looking to smack some heads.

It is a prime time event you don't want to miss!

Anyway I'll be rested up for the game tomorrow.

If it goes like it should, we will win it 38-3.

I've been reading some stuff about the Raiders this past few days and I almost feel sorry for the fans (I said almost).

If he wasn't a Raider, I'd trade for him in a second.

by contrast, it provides an excellent example for anyone who wants to look what a quality organization the broncos are. . . . look how we handled the lelie situation! after all the pissing and moaning from the fans, the broncos just kept their mouths shut, worked with his agent, stuck to their guns, and got a good trade. . . . while the fade dig in their heels and let talent rot on their sidelines because they're too dumb and stubborn to move him. . . what a joke, asking for TWO 1st rounders for a guy who isn't worth one. . . .

and to top it off, they traded off an excellent young player in doug gabriel, one who was making a lot less money than porter, and WASN'T disgruntled-- and they gave him away for a song, too! now moss is pouting again (shocker!!), and it looks like he'll either force his way out of town, or basically just stop playing. . . leaving them with ronald "band-aid" curry and a bunch of unproven nobodies. . . they started the season with a receiving coprs as good as any in the league, and are gonna finish it with junk (yes, moss is junk if he won't play hard)! what a clusterf***! just shows what a crap organization they've become-- the mummy still talks about winning, but he's either completely brainfrozen, or completely unwilling to do what it takes. . . . bronco fans should thank god for bowlen and shanny every time they think about football-- forget all the whining and moaning!

A little read I picked up this morning - apologies if it's already been posted -

Davis does best to revive friction with Shanahan (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2006/10/15/SPGP3LOQPM1.DTL)

I'd forgotten that Shanny & Shell hadn't gone head to head, & it almost sounds as if Shanny's mellowing a little :

"Al gave me an opportunity," Shanahan said. "Even though it didn't work out, I have learned a lot from him. There is a respect level for what he has accomplished and done. That's almost 20 years ago. Time goes by.

Jaws, have you checked what would be on if the baseball game tonight got cancelled?

It's supposed to be a steady light rain turning into a heavier rain for the game, so they might not play.

Any chance the bronco game comes in instead?

Ok its time for us to get it together on Offense, I feel today will be the day Plummer gets comfortable with putting the ball in the air. So I look forward to Walker having a big game and I think Bell will have another 100+ yards.

5 most dissapointing QBs according to Sharpe:

5: Plummer
4: Culpepper
3: McNair
2: Bledsoe
1: Rothlesberger

All of which have explainable situations

5: New OC, only Rod has returned of his primary targets, Walker missed most of pre-season, also played (and won against) two of the leagues best pass Ds
4: Missed most of last season with injury, new system
3: New (and poor) system
2: TO - 'nuff said
1: Missed all of preseason with injury.

Of course you can always find reasons for anything, but even so I can't say that I find any of the 5 particuarly suprising.

In the passing game, they're doubling up on Peppers with Pashos and Lewis or the full back.

In turn, Mike Rucker and Damoine Lewis pwned McNair. Looks like that might have cost the season depending on the severity of McNair's injury.

Holy ****.

Kyle Boller to Mark Clayton TD.

Was intended for Mason, tipped up high in the endzone and Clayton comes down with it.

Like the Rod Smith TD against Buffalo last year, but with a lot less people.

Boller > McNair???? Oh my.

omg, i saw that one on fox, what a mess
but great TD!

That Al Davis has to bring up 20 yr old bad blood to try to "get his team up for this game" as if 0-4 wasn't bad enough. Nobody on that team except maybe Shell gives a crap about the "rivalry" and the Raiders don't even care about their own teammates right now.

Al's on his last legs. I wouldn't be surprised if he lost control of the team by the end of the season. Sooner or later, the owners of the team are going to get very tired of how poor the team is compared to the loads of cash they're shelling out (no pun intended) and are going to take Al's power away. It's a little known fact that Al's not the "owner" in the true sense of the word. He's just a major shareholder who the other shareholders have allowed to run the team as if he was the "owner".

The Raiders are terrible and tonight they're going to feel the wrath of the best team in the AFC.

I'm not sure, but I watched a TV show about the Raiders once (why?... hell, I dunno) and they talked about it. They probably let him run the franchise because he is an ex-player and the only one who knows football (even though in Al's case it's football from 20+ yrs ago) and he has the knack of keeping the Raiders in the spotlight (usually by suing someone over something retarded) in the media.
