View Full Version : Iverson Wants to be Traded. Who Gets Him?

He's gonna get traded this time. Philly has already sent him home after AI demanded a trade.

I say Minnesota has the best shot. I know my Celtics are in the mix but Philly would probably want something like Jefferson, Gomes and Green in exchange and I wouldn't do that.

Who is gonna get Iverson and how much will it take?

It's hard to say where Iverson will go, but Boston was rumoured to be tracking him down during the offseason. Minny is also a possible location, but they already have a good scorer at the point in Mike James, and I doubt they want to make Garnett unhappy by taking shots away from him.

Unfortunately Iverson will probably be traded to a bad team, and he wants to go to a contender.

I know they have Sam Cassell (I think) but he could put the Clippers over the top. You wanna see a REAL bandwagon, wait to see if that happens.

Garnett is practically begging for Iverson to join the T-Wolves. Iverson has said that would be his preference as well. Name a teammate of Iverson's (past or present) with KG's talent. I can't. He has no problem passing to someone he can count on. I still root for Iverson, but it's time for him to move on. He needs to be on a better team. He hates losing and Philly has no direction.

The centerpiece of the trade that almost went down with the Celtics was G Randy Foye, who ended up being drafted by the T-Wolves (boston was to draft Foye, then trade him to Philly).

I've been a Sixers fan since the mid-70's, but can't watch them these days. They're a far cry from Dr. J and co.

If young talent could be added to surround Iguodala and Carney (who has MUCH to learn) and Iverson could go to a winning team, I'd be pleased. Hell, with enough hustle and some DEFENSE, I might be able to watch them again ;) .

With the T-Wolves getting Mike James in the off season i kinda doubt that A.I. will
be shipped off to Minn. As much as i would like to see it, since i've always liked
both of them, i dont think Minnisota will fork out the cash for a non huge need.

Although with James's playing he could play SG.

That would be a very bad idea, neither Iverson or James are "true" point guards. If Minny wants AI they should package Mike James into the trade.

I was hoping the Nuggets would trade for him sometime during the offseason, but I'm happy with Smith.

I REALLY hope he DOESN't go to the T-Wolves :ugh:

While that is true, over the years AI has not slouched in the passing catagory. AI
may not be a "true" PG, but that hasnt stopped him from being relativily up there
in Assists per game or total assists.

However they decide to go, i hope they do it quickly.

Damn, that sucks. I hope it doesn't happen. I don't want Iverson in Denver, and giving up Camby would be terrible.

Iverson-to-Denver deal wouldn't include Camby

Atlanta - The Nuggets are still running in the race for Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson, according to NBA sources.

The Nuggets, Indiana, Boston, Minnesota and Golden State are talking to the Sixers about Iverson, according to sources. Denver had conversations Tuesday with Sixers officials.

The Sixers seem intrigued by salary-cap space and draft picks.

To make a deal work, the Nuggets would likely trade forward- center Nene and possibly two other players with expiring contracts, along with their two first-round picks in 2007, to Philadelphia. Since Nene is in the first year of a five-year, $60-million contract, the Sixers may want to send him to Portland for center Jamaal Magloire in order to acquire another expiring contract.

Denver also has made attempts to acquire Iverson, the 2001 MVP who now is inactive after asking to be traded, during last season and the past offseason.

"I'm going to call him and pick his brain," said Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony, about Iverson. "But I can't see him in another uniform."

i don't know, i'm pretty ambivalent about this. . . iverson would certainly give the nugs the outside shooter they've so desperately needed, but that sounds like a lot to give up for him at this point in his career-- just how much is he really worth, and how much longer can he play? two first round picks seems like a lot. . . either way, i hate to see camby's name involved-- he's been the only reliable player on the team other than melo for the past few years. . . .

Well that is better, but Nene is my favorite player, sooo. Plus, with K-Mart out, who would play down low? I just don't think that this trade will make our team better with Smith playing good lately.

Man, I'm just glad that this orgainaztion has finally got a winning team and coach. The Nuggets FO has done a great job bringing in good talent. This very could help the Nuggets get into the championships. Same thing could happen for AI just as it did for Ray Bourque.
I'd hate to see AI go to the Clippers or the T'Wolves because Denver has to play them and they seem to always lose to them.

DENVER NUGGETS

They're the front-runners for a few reasons.

1. They've got two first-round picks in June to offer, potentially giving Philly three firsts in a draft that already has scouts salivating.

2. They've got a small handful of contracts that expire either this season or next season to coincide with Chris Webber's deal playing out in '07-08.

3. They're in the West, which is obviously where Philly would prefer to send A.I.

The main obstacles: Denver, according to NBA front-office sources, is determined not to include Marcus Camby in any deal and also remains very reluctant to part with summer steal J.R. Smith.

A reversal on Smith would certainly enhance the Nuggets' chances. But the bigger variable is whether the Nuggets and/or Sixers can find a third team to take on Nene's new $60 million deal, after the Brazilian missed all but one game last season with a knee ligament tear. The Sixers, as you can imagine, absolutely will not absorb that contract.

Portland – with Magloire's expiring contract going to Philly for Nene – has been mentioned as that third team, but sources say the Blazers have cooled considerably on joining in … if they were ever really open to it. We'll see if that's a permanent stance or if the Blazers are simply holding out for more from the deal. Like a first-round pick and a young asset (like Smith) to keep for themselves.

Well, its not FOR SURE, but on 9 news they all but said it was done. It would be a 3 way trade with Philly and portland that would include Nene and 2 first round picks in the upcoming draft. They asked 'Melo, who had tlked to AI wednesday night, about the deal, and all he did was give a wide smile and said "No comment."

Sound good for us!!!

ahhh, i don't know. . . part of me would love it, because he's a dangerous scorer who can help a team right away. . . but he sure isn't getting any younger, and look how it worked out last time we gave up multiple first-round picks for a big name player. . . . :brick:

can he make the nugs a championship team? if he doesn't, that's a lot of potential to give up. . . i'm just not sure how to feel about this. . . .

First rounders in the NBA arent like ones in football. There are only 2 rounds total in the NBA, so a mid first is the equivalent of a 3rd rounder in the NFL. Also, there is a lot less "superstars" per draft in the NBA, so concidering that, I would do that trade in a heartbeat...IMO.

Do you think I'd would even be posting in this thread if I didn't know how many rounds in the draft there were!? :goofy: ;)

I guess it depends where those 2 first rounders are. If they're in the Top 10, then I don't think I'd make the trade.

But most likely the Nuggets 1st-rounder's won't be in the Top 10...so now that I think about it...I would make that trade too. As long as they can get rid of Nene and his contract

Make the damned trade, Philly!!!

I've been a 76'ers fan for years though I have VERY little interest in the NBA at this point. Adding some promising young players this year (or draft picks next year) could lead to me doing more than occasionally checking Philly's box scores, though.

Best of luck to A.I. wherever he ends up. :salute:

Aye, but the difference is that in basketball you have a much better perspective of
how a player will shape out in the NBA. You know who will do what, how good he
will be at that, and how bad at this he will be before you draft him. Then, you just
try to improve him at those things.

I hate it when GM's do this crap, trade him... Twolves, Clippers, Heat, and Nuggets
seem to be the front runners.

Speculation is that Denver would give up Nene, Joe Smith and a 1st round pick in the 2007 draft for AI.

Philly doesn't want Nene, and they only want Joe Smith because his contract expires at the end of the year. The 2 1st round picks the Nuggets have are really what's keeping them afloat in these talks...

But they'll need to find an interested 3rd team who can send Philly another expiring contract. That's probably what's holding this deal up, finding a 3rd team to get involved.

I'm fully aware of this. They're calling the 2007 class the best since Melo, LeBron, Wade & Bosh came out (2003). It looks like Minnesota is the most probable third party to get involved.
However, it's been said that Philly is going to wait until the All-Star break to unload Iverson.

I was against it at first, but I was thinking that if he's that piece that Denver needs to make it through the playoffs, then so be it, I'm tired of these one and done playoff appearences. They could use him most now with Anthony out for fourteen more games and JR out for nine more.

You were right, no 3rd team was necessary... I just didn't think the 76ers would take on Miller's contract... But they did and now we've got A.I.!!!
