Oh my goodness.

This is horrible news for this young man's family and his teammates and coaches.
I wish this wasn't true.

Please I ask that everyone be respectful if this is true and no smart remarks about his play. This is life/death and no time to play around.

My prayers go out to Darrent Williams family, love ones, and friends.

I saw your post, Jaws. Thank you for getting the news out.
This is horrendous news. This has the 'feeling' of being more
than a random shooting too, just my thoughts on that. I am
so sorry for his family and his team. Quite shocking news really.

When it rains it Pours. I'll be keeping his family in my prayers.

As fans its something that wounds us all. Even though we were hard on him this year but having him die before he has a chance to make an impact and come back next year this is by far the worse thing that could have happen.

Willams you were a good player could have been a great one. Hope your up there playing in the Big game in the sky.

This is an awful shock and suddenly makes missing the playoffs pointless. Who cares about that at a time like this? Hopefully we as Broncos fans can pull together and get through what is a shocking tragedy.

My prayers go out to the Denver Broncos players and staff and to the family of Darrent Williams.

It would be a wonderful memorial for him, but I don't know if I could enjoy that win. I'm numb. He had so much promise, was so young and now he's gone. Stupid, pointless empty murder. Sometimes I feel like the world gets a little uglier and meaner every day. I can't think about football now, just a young man not even 25 years old dead for no reason.

Darrent Williams shot and killed on January 1st 2007, at about 1 A.M.

He was with a female companion and was leaving a night club, he had a confrontation with someone and got shot inside of the limo, the female was also shot but havent heard anything on her.

RIP Darrent Williams, my condolences to his family and friends.

The news of the death of Darrent Williams is indeed a big tragedy. As fans of football our thoughts are with his family at this time. Darrent had really began this season to show the potential for which he was drafted for and we were all looking forward to seeing his development in the coming years. It is sad that we will not see that now.
His death has been reported as a drive by shooting and for someone living in a society where guns are not the norm it just shows to me once again the futility of allowing guns to get into the hands of people who will just use them for violence.
We do not know all the details of what exactly happened but it pains me as a fan of the Broncos to hear about this sad loss of life at such a tender age.

Darrent, you will be missed. Our prayers are for your family who need to be supported as the grim reality of death has cast its shadow over them. We should pray also for the Broncos organisation as they have lost an employee and for the team who have lost a fellow teammate. May each of them somehow find peace in the midst of this terrible tragedy.

I am absolutely shocked and totally confused. I just heard that Darrent Williams was shot and killed as he left a club in Denver last night! Why would anyone do such a thing? I just don't understand. I really don't know what to say.

To Darrent Williams' family & the members of the Denver Broncos organization: My prayers are with you. I am so very sorry for your loss. You have my most heartfelt condolences. It is never easy to lose a loved one and I can't imagine how much worse it would be under these circumstances. Again, I am sincerely sorry!

I'm still trying to find out what happened, and in the course of doing that I found out he did something in college I've only seen once in my life: ran a blocked extra point back for a TD. For all the finger pointing and what not earlier, if he doesn't get that Int against Cincy last week our season was over right there. After last year I was just waiting for us to have an incredible, terrifying secondary as he just got better and better the longer he was around Champ. And, yes, he always gave it his all, left it all out on the field, win or lose. He will be missed sorely. Not even 25, dead for no reason. I take what solace and comfort I can in the belief where he is now weapons are neither allowed nor needed. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with his family and team. Thanks for the memories, D-Will, and so sorry we couldn't have more together. :salute:

The 80 yard interception return against the Raiders last season has to rate as one of his most memorable moments, the longest INT return my a rookie in team history.

He took some stick this season, but in his rookie season his feisty attitude and enthusiasm for the game really impressed me.

He might have been small in stature but he played like he was six foot tall and with the heart of a lion.

I would be lying if I said I've never been upset with Darrents play. Heck, all of us have at some point. But we tend to forget that he had one of the hardest assignments in the league, in playing opposite of Champ Baily. He took on this assignment head on without flinching or showing fear. He did come off as cocky at times, but that was who he was. He showed a lot of confidence and poise in facing one of the most daunting tasks for a corner, knowing the ball was going to come his way almost every passing down.

He was a true warrior.

Rest in Peace D-Will, you will be missed. :salute:

It doesn't matter who started, one of you just end it.

Who cares if he's an attention *****? (even though he's not)

Nobody is looking at who starts these threads, everyone is looking at the headlines and sending their condolences.

Thinking this is about "attention" is a completely petty thing, and either way, both of you need to calm down.

Unlike alot of people on these boards.....I thought Darrent Williams was an INCREDIBLE player.....

just looked bad because of no pressure from the d-line.....

that punt return he had against SD (the one called back) was special.....

his PICKS FOR SIX.....were always amazing.....

and most importantly.....he had guts to play next to the best corner in the league (maybe NFL history).....he kept his job.....made tackles....played well.....

RIP Darrent....

Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was a promising, personable, caring football player. He was loved by his family, Broncos fans and his Denver teammates, and should have enjoyed a long life, and well deserved praise in his football career. He was cut down in the prime of his life in a senseless shooting, in which he was an innocent victim. All of us here in the Denver area are shocked and dismayed that such a wonderful person should be taken from us so soon. I am at a loss for words to describe my grief, as I am sure many others are. My condolences to his family, friends, the Denver Broncos organization & Broncos fans everywhere. God Bless You, Darrent, and keep you close. We will miss you.

I'm a lifelong Broncos fan (ever since my father was stationed at NORAD in the early 1970s when I was a kid). I now live in Washington, DC, but still live and die by the Broncos.

Watching the games remotely is tough, when everyone here is Redskins crazy. I got to see most of that game yesterday and found myself not so upset--mostly because I knew that the Broncos really weren't strong enough this year to do anything in the playoffs even if they made it. But, it still left me with that kind of sick, empty feeling you get when this happens.

NOTHING, though, anywhere near what I felt this morning when I logged on CNN.com (my default home page) and saw a link that said "Broncos Player Killed in Drive-By Shooting." I sat there for several minutes, afraid to open it, with the possibilities running through my head. I rationalized that if it was a "big" player, the headline would have included a name.

When I finally opened it, it hit me like a ton of bricks. The death of ANY Bronco--no, any PERSON--would be tough. But, there was something about reading that it was Darrent Williams, a young guy just making his way in not only the NFL, but life itself, that was devastating.

I don't have anyone here to grieve with me. Not that they aren't sympathetic, but they are Redskins fans and will forget about it a minute later.

And, I was struck by the need to find whatever official message boards there were for the Broncos, and register, and post how sorry I am. Especially for those of you lucky enough to live in Broncos country and read about them every day in your local paper, and know about these players more intimately than I can living so far away.

As bad as I feel right now, I know it is much worse for you. My thoughts go out to you as well as to Darrent's friends, family, and teammates. This is indeed a sad, sad day and gave me a reality check. Tough loss to the 49ers, but in the big scheme of things, it is this death that is infinitely more tragic.

I have a dozen Broncos jerseys; today, I will get online and buy a new one. #27. Wiliams.

We're division rivals, but when things like this happen, it's time to drop the rivalry and lend support to one another.

I'm a moderator on the Chargers message boards, and we've had some really great Broncos fans on our boards this year. The rivalry was heated, but we had some good Broncos fans show up and support your team. We appreciate that.

Stay strong, Broncos fans. I hope that the perpetrator is rapidly brought to justice.

We'll keep a good thought for your team, Darrent's friends and family, and his fans.

I've noticed that some people are apologizing for all the bad things they've ever said about Darrent- No need to apologize for those things- It shows that in the grand scheme of things we all value human life.
It's easy to forget that these athletes are ordinary people with families who really love them, until something tragic happens.
I hope the family finds comfort in the fact that people do care and that it's not just because he was a professional athlete but because he was a man who died so young and in such a senseless way.

1st time on this board... I just wanted to share my memories of D-Will as this is really affecting me this morning... more than I thought it would. Think about this... what other player in the NFL that was so freakin short played as big as Darrent did? He had an incredible ROY-type coming out last year and yeah, he got burned a few times this year but I can still hear him saying so clear "WHEN I GROW UP I WANNA BE JUST LIKE CHAMP."

He had such a bright future.

He always played like a kid - gave his all on EVERY PLAY and was so quick to laugh and smile. Even when he was sitting a little in favor of Foxworth he was so strong in his praise of his best bud.

The ironic thing for me personally is that I have posted some unflattering things about Darrent, but I was going to post on here about what a great play he made during the game yesterday. I was going to say that was the type of play I had been waiting for. I was going to post about how I was impressed by that terrific punt return yesterday. I should have posted it last night - now it is an empty gesture.

I suppose as the days go by we will find out more and more details about this cowardly act. Too many people these days pick up a gun instead of solving your problems like a man. There was a time when people solved their differences with their fists when they got into a fight, and when it was over you shook hands and went on your way, but now it's just solved with a gun. The person who did this is the worst kind of coward. hides behind something and sneaks up behind to ruin a life. Whoever it was, they know what they did and will be caught and hopefully severely punished.

He would have been a great Bronco.

I wish all athletes would just stay away from these night clubs. They are dangerous and full of people that are jealous at what you have.

Truer words have never been spoken. As soon as these atheletes go out to a club and people know who they are, the trouble starts! Let's just hope the confrontation had nothing to do with the game. Hopefully, all these atheletes will realize they should go elsewhere to party, like someone's house, instead of these damn clubs! I hope they find that SOB and give him the same sentence he gave Darrent! :fight:

It's a sad beginning to the new year in Bronco Country, as we awake to learn the news that CB Darrent Williams has been shot and killed. Why? Jealousy? Envy? He was one of the best new corners in the NFL. So shoot and kill him??? *** are people thinking these days? Put the guns away!!!!! Now his family has to spend EVERY New Year in Mourning. And for WHAT????

I just got home from work here in Souix City, Iowa, and saw the news. I mean, what a senseless tragedy. Yesterday afternoon before I went to work I was sitting in front of the TV while my daughter yelled "Go Darrent, GO!" as he returned a punt, and now he is gone. How do you explain the senseless of this to your children??

My condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire Broncos Orginization. Godspeed and farewell Darrent. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

The things I most remember about Darrent was his great attitude and personality. He gave everything he had to the Denver Broncos and Broncos fans, and because of this he took alot of heat from some disgraceful "fans" because he gave up some receptions.

Darrent took the high road and used that opportunity to praise Champ Bailey's skills as the reason why teams threw his way so often, and he mentioned that he learned alot from Champ and enjoyed playing with him.

Darrent was a talented football player who just completed only his second year in the NFL and he had a promising year and a promising future with 4 INTs and he made many tackles this year and helped out on special teams.

His future on earth was taken from him last night but now we should have comfort in knowing that it was his time to leave his physical body on earth, and he is serving with God in heaven, now and for eternity.

Yesterday's game: Darrent Williams 2 punt returns for 50 yards, one for 34 yards. Pretty darn good 25 yard average.

ErnieNovember
01-01-2007, 08:57 AM
Unlike alot of people on these boards.....I thought Darrent Williams was an INCREDIBLE player.....

just looked bad because of no pressure from the d-line.....

that punt return he had against SD (the one called back) was special.....

his PICKS FOR SIX.....were always amazing.....

and most importantly.....he had guts to play next to the best corner in the league (maybe NFL history).....he kept his job.....made tackles....played well.....

RIP Darrent....

I always use to say, it had to be hard for Darrent to play opposite Champ Bailey, because you were going to get a lot of throws your way, so I never ever use to get down on him, I wish a lot more people would have understood that.

I wish all athletes would just stay away from these night clubs. They are dangerous and full of people that are jealous at what you have.
