Here are some of my favorite players that I would love to see us sign.

Runningback:

Michael Turner, RFA, San Diego Chargers
Turner takes a beating and keeps going. Turner isn’t well known to the general public, but the kid has talent. He gets a handful of carries behind Ladainian Tomlinson and has maximized those carries, averaging six yards per carry in his short career. If Turner continues to have success in his current role, it won’t be long before teams start thinking about making an offer come free agency. With his expanded role in San Diego this season, it shouldn’t surprise anyone to see Turner sign elsewhere, but the Chargers may look to keep their dangerous rushing combo together.

or

Chris Brown, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Brown might wind up back in Tennessee when all is said and done, but there could be interest from teams looking for a decent backup or desperate for a starter with some experience under his belt. A team might like to use Brown in a running back by committee scenario, if he has a good season as the main back with the Titans this season. His upright running style might make him an appealing change of pace back, and he did rush for over 1,000 yards in just 11 games during the 2004 season, but Brown’s health is a concern. In his three seasons, he’s never played in all 16 games.

DL: im gussing here that freeney will be tagged!!

Terdell Sands UFA Oakland Raiders
The defensive tackle entered his fifth NFL season without much fanfare. He was stuck behind other players, and hadn’t been thought of as an impact player by most. However, the former Chattanooga player has shined when given the opportunity. One reason that Sands has been effective is his size. Standing 6’7” and weighing 335 pounds, Sands is enormous, and difficult to take out of a play. His height allows him to bat down passes if he cannot get penetration, and he has developed a decent awareness of where the ball is. In non-starter minutes, he’s still just two tackles away from his career season high, and he is earning more and more time each week. The Raider will be well-served to sign him to an extension, but Sands might look elsewhere if Oakland won’t guarantee him more playing time.

Justin Smith, UFA, Bengals
The Bengals 2001 first round pick, Smith has shown improvement over time and become a significant threat to the opposition’s quarterback. Smith has tallied 40.5 career sacks up to this point, and already has 6.5 in the current season, a pace that would make for a career best. Smith has also been a consistent tackler with more than 54 total tackles each season of his career. Smith is a big and quick pass-rusher, and he will command a good deal of attention on the market, and he should make a good deal of money.

Safety

Ken Hamlin, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Hamlin is a talented safety with the potential to get even better. After an injury caused him to miss ten games last season, Hamlin has rebounded mightily this season with 70 total tackles, three interceptions, and a pair of sacks. Hamlin is on pace to equal his interception high, and his two sacks are tied with his career high. The athletic defensive back could be a valuable asset to most teams, and the Seahawks will work hard to re-sign him.

CB:

Nate Clements, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Clements should be the top target of teams looking for help in the secondary. He’s young, highly regarded, and very talented. Buffalo would like nothing more than to have him signed to an extension as quickly as possible, but his talent—he does have two Pro Bowl selections—may lead him to test the market. Without an extension, the Bills must decide if they are willing to franchise tag Clements once again to guarantee his presence on the gridiron for one more season. Since Clements has not been adversely affected by NFL officiating changes, most NFL teams will pursue the cornerback if he hits the market.

If we could land Sands and Turner I would be doing back flipps. I think sands next to Big Money would be a great combo and we would not have to worry about getting run on as much. This would also free up our linebackers to make more plays! Tuner enough said!! Big back with speed, sounds like a denver runningback. Then if we could add hamlin, we would have a ball hawking safety to help with coverage. :salute:

You mentioned RBs and Defensive positions, but what about the Offensive Line? The O-Line with either Foster, Meadows or Pears in it looked absolutely dreadful this season. Lepsis might not come back 100% and Nalen definitely is not going to be around many more seasons. Can the Broncos get someone, or are we doomed to live with Greg Eslinger and Chris Kuper as starters?

Charles Grant DE, New Orleans

Effective pass rusher who is also good against the run.

I know I will probably be slammed for saying this, but I would like to see Ron Dayne back. I think he only signed a one year deal with the texans.

How about Drew Bennett, Rod might be retireing and will need a reciever to compete with Marshall for the #2 spot

Quarterback

If Plummer does leave, Tim Rattay may be a nice backup for Cutler. He is a vet and did play well when given the chance with Tampa Bay at the end of the 2006 season.

Running Back

Correll Buckhalter could be an interesting addition. Lots of speed like Tatum and Mike.

Yeah, but he gets hurt if a kicker sneezes on him.

Oh, and Mike doesn't have lots of speed, but I digress.

Buckhalter is a good option but he has NO speed. He gets between 3-6 yards almost every carry, he has the least negative yardage plays in the nfl this season but no BIG runs either I think. Not a bad backup option tho

Clements is gonna see some serious coin at him if he's allowed to hit the market.
If by some miracle Denver was to get him...the defense would be sick-in two ways.
1. Clements is a very popular choice as the 2nd best corner in the league...next to Champ of course. To have the best two corners on the same team would be awesome.
2. It would also be sick cause Denver would have WAY too much $$ wrapped up in cornerbacks when there are obvious problems on the defensive line.

Yeah Nate probally is a long shot!! But I couldnt stop myself from putting him on the list. I really would like to see us get a BIG for the middle!! I think that would open things up for the outside if we had some peeps down there that could demand double teams.

runningback is a must, but im hoping to get that solved in the free agent signing period because there are some good defensive players coming out this year and they could help us alot more than a running back.

Our offensive line does need adjusted but there really isnt all that much out there. I have a feeling foster will be moved to guard this year and there is the possibility that hamilton could be the center. Pears I thought did a pretty good job and will either stay there on the left or move over to the right. Lepsis will be back at left unless his injury keeps him on the sideline.

I like Turner, but I'm sure the Chargers will put a either a first or second round on him. You just don't trade draft picks to your division. Chris Brown is injury prone, he seems to always be injuried when he plays. I'd perfer if we got Thomas Jones from the Bears, really depends on who the Bears decides to keep though.Charles Grant is a better choice than Terrel Sands IMO.

Nice 15yd penalty.

For what? he made just as much noise or even more than both the Bells this year.......They'll regret it come next year.

i would rather see us trade a draft pick to chicago for one of their backs then see us go after an unproven back who has 6 carries a game for 40 yards against a worn out defense

I agree and I disagree...

Turner would be a great pick-up for us, but I don't think he's much of a secret to the rest of the nfl. I don't think there's anyway the Chargers are able to hold on to Turner. Someone (if not the Broncos) is going to sign him to a starting RB offer sheet. Then it's up to SD if they want to match the offer by paying starter money to a backup.

BigJuan
01-02-2007, 03:37 PM
your right someone will pay turner to be a starter hopefully not us because all he has proven to be is a backup he hasnt proven a thing 66 caries in a season and everyone wants him

whats his durability?
whats he like against a fresh d?
whats he like in our zone blocking?

too many questions to pay him top dollar when you can get a back in the draft or keep the bell in the backfield and let mike be the starter and tatum come off the bench again because as of right now i see turner just like tatum great a taking advantage of a worn out d

Possible Free Agent targets:

Vonnie Holliday UFA Miami
Robaire Smith UFA Tennessee
Hollis Thomas UFA New Orleans

I think that possibly takes care of the DT problem for now. No need to draft a DT in the first round if Shanny picks up one of the above.

Asante Samuel UFA New England

If not too expensive would be good fit to play opposite Champ Bailey, unless of course Shanny thinks Foxy can fit in.

Now depending on what Rod Smith decides to do, if he retires, then Denver will need to get a solid #2 or #3 WR in FA, and use a mid to late round pick on a WR.

Drew Bennett UFA Tennessee
Patrick Crayton RFA Dallas
Mike Furrey UFA Detroit
Eric Moulds UFA Houston

Finally for RB in FA. The pickings are slim to say the least. Anyone Denver signs, I believe it will be a 1 year deal, because of the RB's that will most likely come out in next years draft, that fit better in Broncos system then what is available early this year.

Chris Brown UFA Tennessee
Michael Turner RFA San Diego

Samuel's a ballhawk but he still gets toasted a lot. I'd tip Foxy to start, he's a very good player. Paymah's shown he's capable and so has Coxy (albeit at safety)

I was actually glad to see he didn't make the Pro Bowl.

in my opinion i say...

the first thing the broncos need to do is get a serious pass rusher...

second position the broncos need to fill is the saftey position, becuase i don't know what the situation is going on with john and nick, but all i know is the broncos need a starting cover saftey...

other then that the broncos should re-build there o-line through the draft...thats the best way...

as for the runningback situation i don't think we need a runningback, we got tatum and mike bell and neither of them is going...mike is young stud...i know most of you don't like tatum becuase he played bad this year but he did have a turf toe injury...and a turf toe injury is not somthing that is there one week and not there the next...its a nagging injury that needs time to heal....as for his 3 fumbles in 3 games, he's somehow going back to his running style in college which was he was running too high of the ground...

and may i add the 49ers fumble was'nt 100% his fault, he did fall on the ball and had the ball under him and walt came and took it from him
