Just in case it doesn't get posted on the site...I thought I'd just post it here.
All I could do was gasp out a sob and stare at the screen on espn.com when I saw that Darrent Williams was dead.
I can't believe it.
Last night was a trial of getting over a loss - in a game - that sent the Broncos out of the playoffs.
But with a loss there's next year.
Now I keep on thinking of #27...and there isn't a next year.
I feel like I knew him, just because of how much I love the Broncos, and how involved I am in following them all year-round.
Darrent Williams was first and foremost a person...and he was a Bronco.
Being a Bronco makes him part of a brotherhood.
A family.
A worldwide family.
I'm a part of that family.
And because of that, I mourn the loss, and I feel it as personal as any death in my own family.
My prayers, and the prayers and thoughts of countless others reach out to Darrent's family and friends.
We just want to let you know that we love y'all.
That's all I can say.
From the heart, we love y'all.
One last Mile High salute, Darrent Williams.
I wonder if the funeral is going to be here in Fort Worth. If it is I'd like to go...although wherever it is my prayers go with the family.

I want to give my deepest condolences to the williams family for there loss. And my broncos for one of there best CB besides bailey..I've watched him grow in this league and he only got better as the weeks went by....will miss you darrent williams, thanks for the memories.....have fun in heaven..

D-Will will be missed by all the Broncos family. I always thought he was a top notch corner who had to play a little harder than the next guy, being 5"8. I pray that he was a believer and will go on to be with our lord. :cheers:

What has become of this world today? It saddens my heart to see such a fine young man and a tremendous football player be taken away by such ignorance.
Darrent will be missed greatly. I would like to send out my deepest sympathy to the entire Williams family and to the whole orginization of the Denver Broncos. He will be greatly missed.

I am a KC Chiefs fan, who obviously celebrated the loss to SF yesterday. I am a KC native, season ticket holder and Chiefs blogger. I have never held back in my contempt for the Broncos, as a fan of a rival team.
That said, my heart is heavy for the Bronco nation tonight after hearing of the death of starting corner Darrent Williams. He was a bright spot in the NFL. A gifted young talent. The fact that I didn't like the guy - as the fan of a rival team - is a tribute to him.
God bless him and his family -- as well as the Broncos organization and fan base. This is so sad and so wrong on so many levels. I hope the NFL pays appropriate tribute throughout the playoffs to the sickening loss of this great young man.

I can still see Darrent grinning ear to ear as returns Kerry Collins INT for a TD in 2005. That is how I will remember him.
Through a haze and a complete loss of words, I offer my prayers and condolences to the Broncos organization, and to the family and loved ones Williams left behind!

I wish to offer my deepest condolences to the family, friends, & teammates of Darrent Williams. Having been a long time Broncos fan, I was always so excited to see men of great talent play for Denver...but it was an even better accomplishment to see the Broncos pick up a player that brought as much charisma to the team as Darrent Williams did. I would expect nothing less of a fellow Texan though...and my heart truly goes out to the loved ones Darrent leaves behind.
To lose a loved one is a terrible tragedy...but to lose one in such a senseless manner is a travesty. The only comfort I can offer is that even though Darrent may have been taken from all of you and the rest of the world...he will never be gone so long as he remains in the thoughts & hearts of those who loved and knew him.
The loss of Darrent is truly a horrible event...but for those he touched with his life, Darrent will always be remembered as a blessing.

I just wanted to say that this is such a horrible time for everyone. Darrent was one of my favorite players on the broncos and was going to be a great cornerback! He will surley be missed on Sundays but we shall never forget!.. Thoughts and Prayers to the Williams Family!

My heart goes out the the Williams family. I felt completly sick when I heard of the news. It is sad to see a young kid with all that talent and a great future in the NFL cut short. I've been a Chiefs fan since I was a young girl, born into a Chiefs family...it is my heritage. However, I am also an NFL fan, and though The Broncos are our Division Rivals...I have respect for the Broncos Organization and it's fans.
When I read about the horrible tragic loss of Darrent Williams (RIP) at NFL.com... I was both shocked and truly heartbroken. Please accept my condolences, thoughts, and prayers. May God watch over Mr. Williams family, friends, and fans during this heartbreaking time.

This is the second player that has been taken too soon from a team that i follow. The other player being Brian Patta of the Miami Hurricanes, who was shot in the back of the head while walkin away from a potential confrentation. It's never fun or good to hear of anyone being taken from the earth. But to be such a coward to shoot someone over a little argument shows just how low people can get. My deepest condolenses and prayers go out to Williams' family, friends, Broncos team, and fans. May he rest in peace, and never be forgotten. May God have mercy for the guilty party. Don't take life for granit everyone. This show just how unpredictable our lives can be.

This is very heart breaking. I’ve been reading all the comments on this site and I couldn’t help but to cry. It is so sad to see Darrent go, especially this way. May the bastards who did this burn in hell!!! I loved Darrent Williams!! He was a hell of a football player and it is just senseless that somebody could do this to another human being. What a spectacular athlete whose career and life was cut short due to the senseless act of some heartless bastard. I am a true to the bone fan, so I know everyone here can relate to my feelings on this. I am truly hurting.
All my thoughts and prayers go out to the Denver Broncos Organization, The Fans, and Friends, but most of all my prayers, thoughts and feelings go to the Family of Darrent Williams. I am so very, very sorry for your loss.
Number 27 will forever live on in our memories! Thank you Darrent, it was a pleasure to watch you play!!! You will be greatly missed.

It's a horrible tragedy that happened on this day. I remember the Broncos-Colt game and how Peyton kept on throwing the ball on his side. Yeah, he got burnt alot, but he kept on trying and trying. He earned my respect as a player that day and every week afterwards I would make sure to watch his play and cheer him on. I found out about this from a complete stranger. He went to me and said "Hey, you're a Broncos Fan I see (seeing that I'm in New York, when you wear a Broncos Cap, people notice)." I said yeah, then he told me about what happened. I bowed my head and my eyes welled up automatically. After such a tough loss last evening against the 49'ers, it's terrible that this had to happen to a person with so much drive and potential to be something special not too far down the line. I feel absolutely horrid for his 2 children. They're going to grow up w/o a father. I feel bad for his immediate family: Having to deal with such a loss. I feel not just for him, but for the Denver Broncos organization, the people that loved him the most in his personal life, and of course, the fans that rooted for him this year. We will surely miss you...and I'm sorry that your life was cut short so senselessly.

I say this because I take this game way too seriously and I am only a supporter, a fan.
I have been pushing for Darrent's demotion half the year and at a time like this when I am reminded life is more important, and that I am here to support any and all Broncos I feel horrible because he's gone and all I did was hate on him. For this I am ashamed and am truely sorry.
To the Williams family: I can't imagine the sadness you all are feeling and I hope that some how the lord will help you all through this unexpected and untimely passing of Darrent. I will pray for him and I as a fan will never forget him.

I am very saddened by the wake of events that have happened with the passing of Darrent Williams. Darrent should always be remembered for being a great defender, a great player, but a great person who lived his dreams in Broncos Country. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Darrent Williams, The players, coaches, staff, and fans of the Broncos, and Pat Bowlen and Mike Shanahan who are very devestated at this time. I also pray that justice will be served in divine mercy to whoever committed this act that taken away Darrent's life. Darrent did not deserve to die. May Darrent despite his life ended young enjoy the reward of the heavenly kingdom with all the angels and saints that he lived his life to the fullest.

Well, ok, I'm a Giants fan from NJ. We don't get to see too many Broncos games up here, so I didn't see Darrent play too many times, but I will say this. This guy was a great player, what I call a crowd silencer, much like Champ Bailey is. Throw at a reciever that he guarded & you'd get one of 3 results: an incomplete pass, an INT, possibly run back for a TD, or your receiver scowling at you back in the huddle screaming, "Man, don't throw to me when 27's covering me, he damn near knocked me into next week."
I'm praying for DW's family, friends, & teammates, I'd also like to say that I hope Colorado has the death penalty, for when they catch his murderer, I pray he/she will die, as killing another person is the most heinous thing one can do to another human being.
In closing, I'll say that the Broncos ought to wear a 27 sticker on their uni's & helmets next year (& if any Broncos go to the Pro Bowl this year, they ought to wear it on their all star uni's too). Also I'd petition the NFL to get him in the Hall of Fame somehow, perhaps just as a player whose play outshone the rest briefly & whose career came to an end via his untimely death. Maybe they could put a special exhibit for him & other excellent players who just died too young (I'm thinking guys like Derrick Thomas here)... RIP 27!!

Wow, what a sad, sad New Year for me. I could not catch my breath and couldn't believe my eyes when I read this today. I was hoping is was a mistake... I still am.
I remember when this kid showed up in a Bronco uniform last year wearing my beloved number 27. I was like, "who in the blue hell is this dude wearing Atwater's number?" Turned out he was the guy who would be starting along side one of the greatest NFL Cornerbacks of all time, Champ Bailey.
I cherish anybody in my life who's made me smile or cry... as a Bronco fan, Darrent did both! LOL And because of that, I'll never forget him. God Bless his family, the Bronco organization and fans, Oklahoma State University and anybody who Darrent made cheer, laugh or cry.
He was one of the most exciting players I've ever seen. If Denver was ever down by 6 with 5 seconds left, pending a kickoff from the other team, and DWill was back to return the kick... THERE'S STILL A CHANCE! And YOU all know what I'm talking about!!
I love the game of American Football. It helped me to forget my problems and the harshness that reality bears upon our lives daily. My Sundays are spent trying to forget about bills and broken relationships.... watching football.
Thank you Darrent for being part of that outlet and making me smile. You can pass me on the street and I would never know you, but you make me smile and I'll never forget you.. For those of my friends who have seen my smile.. I save it for those special ppl in my life.

I've been a proud Bronco fan for 30 years and have been with you all during your ups and downs. It saddens me that a young man, great athlete, had to lose his life in a senseless manner. Man O man I heard this and was shocked beyond belief. I am a very avid football fan and I follow a lot of things in football and this is one guy I targeted as being a class act and an all around pro bowl talent in a few years. This really sucks wrong place at the wrong time. Rest in Peace D. Williams you will be missed. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

As Fans, tragedies like this touch our lives. Someone we've grown to know and love on your favorite team can almost seem like the loss of a good friend. However, we must keep perspective. Were we feel the pain and lose of a sports figure, someone we have loved to watch and cheer on the field, Rosiland Williams has lost her son. The child she gave birth to, cared for, clothed, feed, and raised. His family members have lost family, his friends have lost their companion. We all have the right to morn the lose of Darrent Williams. Just keep in mind, as a fan, imagine your pain x 100. That's what his friends are feeling. Imagine your pain x 1000, that's what his family is feeling. And no one feels the lose of a son more than his mother. We can't even begin to imagine her pain.

Rosiland Williams, my heart goes out to you. No mother should ever have to feel so much pain. May God ease your soul and help you find peace.

This summer my child attended a summer camp w/Darrent,He left quite an impression on my kid. So New Years Day when we woke up and my child started crying because of the news of the loss,That was heart wrenching.darrent left memories that will always be with my boy.

it is amazing how little respect they are giving to what Darrent brought to the league and the positive impact he made for the whole NFL...they spend more time on each of the two fired coaches than on someone who represented the new face of future NFL and was lost tragically. Having been a bronco fan since 1982 i have seen many players come and go. Many have touched peoples lives and the lives of the community in a positive way. And i believe Darrent was another one of those players.
I dont get to see many Bronco's games anymore since i moved to Washington state. But i have followed Darrent's career since he was first signed. And i knew he was going to be something special. From his first day at Dove valley to his last game as a Bronco, i saw a young man, who tried to excel at everything he did.
I saw a young man who wasn't hung up on fame and fortune, but had a love of the game, and his teammates. He will be sorely missed, not just on the field, but i believe the world is a lesser place without him.

The loss of Darrent Williams is not only tragic for the Broncos, his family and the NFL, it’s tragic for everyone. It was another senseless act of violence that I pray will receive every ounce of attention from the Denver Police Department to catch the person(s) responsible and bring them to justice. I’m truly saddened for his family and children. They deserved to grow up with their father in their lives. Thank you to Darrent for all the joy you gave to everyone and I know God is cheering you in heaven.

It was with great sadness that I woke up to the news reports yesterday morning. Darrent brought a lot of good to the Denver Broncos organization, as a player, but more importantly, everything about him exuded that he was a good person. He will be sorely missed. While the obvious lack of regard for human life sickens and saddens me, I only hope some good can come out of this senseless tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the Denver Broncos and the Williams family. The entire city is grieving the loss of this bright young star.

I think that Nick said it best when he said that "If this city is a big heart, we are all bleeding right now." When you are a huge football or Broncos fan, it feels like we lost a friend, or even a brother. I'm really glad to see fans of all other teams come together and mourn the loss of a great player, and an all around good guy, and a life that cut short...He was destined to have great career, and be a future HOF. DW you will be greatly missed, and My thought go to his family, friends, and teammates.

Over the summer I went to the Broncos camp and met Darrent Williams and I really looked up to him because in my opinion he was the leader ahead of the other guys on the team.

He will never be forgotten and if only we could trade in all those wins to get Darrent back...it would be worth it! Now the loss to the 49ers and missing the playoffs isn't a big of deal. I was shocked when i found out the news...all i could do is gasp and say oh no and i still can't believe that this isn't a nightmare. You are missed greatly DW and Bronco Fans and fans around the league will never forget you!:( I hope who ever is at fault here is caught and realizes the pain they have caused to the bronco fans and DW family!

I just want to start off by saying how deeply sorry I am for the Williams' entire family. I know that right now mere words could never heal your sadness but I sure hope it helps. I've been a Bronco fan since I was very little, around 6 years old and now I'm 16. I can say with full confidence that I've never seen a better CB tandem than Champ and Darrent. It sickens me that something so stupid and senseless took his life away at such a young age. I'm sure you know how much he meant to the entire Broncos Organization, and I know I'm going to miss him with all my heart and soul. He was an amazing athlete and although I didn't know him personally, I could tell by the way he presented himself on and off the field he was a very stand up young man and had a personality bigger than anyone could ever match. Once again I'm so sorry for your family and I hope that whoever did this gets what they deserve for taking Darrent away from us. Just know that all my prayers and thoughts go out to you and I'll never forget what he did for the Broncos team and family. His accomplishments will forever be in place and his smile never forgotten. Darrent Williams was such a great, guy and he was always smiling and he really has become one of my favorite players. This is such a shocking tragic loss to the BroncoCountry. Now, not making the playoffs doesnt't even matter any more. When I saw Javon Walker step out of his car with his somber look, and all he has been through through the past couple days, I just had this empty feeling and i feel as though i have lost a brother. He was a great player and forever will be remembered! One last Mile High Solute DW! #27 You will be greatly missed!

Rest in Peace. I am so sad for this man's family. I have 2 kids of my own, being 24, born 15 days earlier than Darrent, it hit home. I couldn't imagine my kids growing up without their daddy. Such a tragedy. He was a talented young man, on and off of the field. I pray for his safe journey to the Kingdom, and I pray for his family. I pray that God brings to justice such a senseless crime.
To Darrent, I loved to watch you play. I defended your abiltiy to the end. I was so impressed with your ability to make plays happen at such a young age. I know you got picked on a lot at corner, but who wouldn't with Champ being the other man? You stepped up, and you deserve to be mentioned in the best along side others, such as Champ. im from Germany and follow the NFL from here. It saddens my heart to see such a fine young man and a tremendous football player be taken away by such ignorance even though I'm not a Bronco-Fan. I think in such a moment it doesn't matter what team you favour. It's just sad that the NFL lost a young talented player at the CB- position. My prayers are with his family and friends right now.

what i remember most about Darrent is that game where he intercepted a pass then ran down the sideline yelling "KEEP PICKING ON ME!". he was so excited and it showed the fire that burned inside of him.

I was still reeling from our season ending loss to the resurgent 49'ers when I read the headlines. I guess things get put in perspective weather we like it or not. While the Broncos organization has the next 8 months to regroup, they are going to have to deal with the loss of a teammate today.
Forget about the fumbles, interceptions, dropped passes, and miss-thrown balls.
Jay or Jake, Tatum or Mike. Yesterday we lost one of our own and it hurts. The battle on the field is won or lost with preparation and execution, the battle of life is very similar. One minute we are on the battlefield and the next our loved ones are making funeral arrangements.
We are all going to die, but when, how? What will we leave as our legacy? Did Darrent know yesterday was his last game? None of us know that today might be our last, so let’s take a lesson from our football warriors. They go out each game and “play” like this is the last time they may take the field. Do we give 100% each day? Do we treat each day of this precious life like it is our last? We have the opportunity to look back and learn from yesterday. Did I do everything to better myself and those who love me and depend on me? My one and only resolution this year is simple to say, tough to prepare for and at times very hard to execute. Live each day like it may be my last. Darrent Williams just taught us that it may very well be.

i remember sitting in invesco statuim at the home opener of the 2005 season against the chargers. it was an intense game with a lackluster first half. fortunetly the second half brought some excitment and a big win. the one thing that keeps skipping through my head was when Derrant had that big punt return for a TD, only to be called back because of a penalty for a sideling player stepping on to the field. anyhow, my little brother said to me, "who is number 27?". i looked at him like, are you a retard man, "its our next big stud Derrant Williams." "you know, our second round draft pic that shanny has been paising for the last two months." then my brother said to me, " damn, he looks amazing, i hope he keeps this up."
yeah, its kind of corny i know, but it keeps goin through my head. i would have never imagined this happening to one of the players that i cheer for. i guess that is why i almost feel like i have lost someone i know, although i did'nt know him at all. maybe that is why we all grieve over this so much. that and the fact that a person of such caracter, that was in a position to make a difference has been takin way too soon. anyhow, just a thought that i wanted to share.
Derrant, we will miss you and we will surely never forget you and what you have meant to our team and to the comunities in which you have made a difference in.

The thoughts of Denver not making it to the playoffs are quickly washed away by this tragedy. The prospect of a new season now sits on the back burner as we remember a player, short in stature by NFL standards but bigger in heart than much of the NFL - Darrent Williams embodied what Bronco fans look to when trying to form what the organization means to us...Heart. His achievements on and off the field are what much of professional sports have been missed for many a year, dedication to the team and to the community - the NFL has lost one of what is truly great in the world of sports. With a competitive attitude and a caring heart we look back at what can only be seen as not only a carreer cut short but a great soul in this world sent to God too soon. To the Bronco family, the players, the families and to everyone who has ever seen him play or met him in passing, I send my deepest condolences.

im not a broncos fan but i have to say when i read that darrent williams had been killed a lump struck my throat. i think its sick and horrible someone would kill another life - especially one of which was soo young and had soo much ahead of them. i want to express my condolences to the family n friends of darrent williams, the team on which he played, the fans in which he touched - i want to send more out to the WR Javon Walker who had to hold darrent in his arms as he passed away.
I Hope that Darrent williams may rest in peace - and that everyone he touched will remember him for the good times - rather than how he died. i pray that this never ever happens to anyone again - be they celebs, sports personnel or even normal everyday people - for it is sick and unhumane to take another life

I have been a major bronco fan for years. I was at the season opener for the 2005 season standing behind the bronco bench in the stands when Darrent came out onto the field, a kid next to me asked for his autograph and he happily obliged signing his program. The kid was ecstatic. Darrent walked over to the bronco bench and sat down and then turned around and smiled at the people in the stands. That smile I will remember forever and Darrent will always be in my heart and remembered in my prayers. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and the enitire Bronco organization, I feel like I lost a member of my own family. He will always soar upon the wings of an eagle.

I sent this poem I wrote to the Broncos and the Williams family to offer my condolences along with the prayers and thoughts of my family to them. I wanted to share it with you as well.
"Heaven Has Another Angel"
Twenty-four years is all we had.
Two small children lost their dad.
A city mourns, while the NFL cries.
A senseless act, a young man dies.
Full of heart, dedication, and a strong will.
The city of Denver and the entire state of Colorado comes to a stand still.
5'8 he stood, his number twenty-seven.
Now he's in a better place up in heaven.
Even though his physical life was taken away from him,
his inner light they will NEVER be able to dim.
He and I were strangers, he didn't know me.
He was loved and will be missed, he was apart of our Broncos family.

My heart really goes out to the Williams family & the Broncos organization. I re-watched both Charger-Bronco games on TiVo & it was difficult. Seeing DWill all over the field making plays just a few weeks ago & now he is no longer with us is just baffling. I got a lump in my throat every time I saw #27 on the screen.
I will always remember Williams for that ridiculous haircut he had for a little while. Kind of a cross between a Mohawk & corn rows. I laughed so hard when I saw it. My two comments were, either he lost a bet or he has some big balls. That is the kind of thing that shows his fun loving spirit.
It will be a long time before a New Year's goes by that I won't say a prayer for you DWill.

Darrent Williams was someone special. I remember last year the play he made against the Raiders. I don't remember whether it was off of an interception or punt return, I think it was an interception, but it was a big play that helped the Broncos gain the momentum they needed in that game. That's when I first noticed Williams. I also remember when he was injured. My Dad was talking how he was such a great player so every week I would check the injuries on the Broncos to see if he was able to play. I remember checking every week, because I thought the Broncos would have trouble winning in the play offs without Darrent Williams. I remember that when the Broncos got the second seed I was glad because it would give him another week to recover. When he was finally able to play against the patriots I was ecstatic. I always thought that Williams and Foxworth were good cornerbacks, but Darrent Williams really shined.
I remember this year being disappointed in Williams after the game against the Colts, and I confess that after that I took the work that he did for granted with all that Champ Bailey and Al Wilson had done this season. I always compared him to Champ Bailey and set standards that were too high. I know that he have become the next Champ Bailey if he had been able to play more. His coaches said that he reminded them of a young Champ Bailey. With 4 interceptions last season that was truly amazing for a player in for only 2 years. I missed the Broncos-Chargers game and so I missed his huge interception and touchdown. I remember reading about it and thinking that's defiantly Darrent Williams, but I confess that I still took that for granted. I never knew it was Darrent Williams that returned the fumble against the Steelers as well. He has really made major contributions to the Broncos on special teams and defense, but too often I failed to appreciate them.
I think that his greatest moment was against the Bengels on Christmas Eve. He Intercepted Carson Palmer in the endzone. I thought that Champ Bailey had made the interception, but no it was number 27. He also made it in the second play of the game and I think it really saved the game for the Broncos.
However my greatest memory of Darrent Williams was against the Raiders in 2005. I remember the postgame show and he said that when he caught the ball he remembered that he was one of the fastest players on the team and so he outran the Raiders to score a touchdown. The Raiders had ran a punt return in for a touchdown a few plays earlier and that really put the momentum on their side and it looked like they would win the game like they had done the last time they played the Broncos in 2004, but William's big play put the spark back in the Broncos and was just what they needed to win.
I think that we forget that the players on the field lead lives outside of football. To me Darrent Williams was a Cornerback and number 27, but I didn’t know he was also a husband and a father. He was an emotional core to his team and a great friend to many.
It's a sad feeling to see him go. He was so young full of talent and potential. So many athletes can be jerks, but I remember him being a nice guy and full spirit. It was a heartbreaking feeling to see the athlete I had watched for two years pass away. To many including me it feels almost as if a member of our own family had passed away.

I especially feel bad for Javon Walker because he was there and saw it happen. It reminded me of when my cat died and I felt so helpless, wishing I could save her life but knowing I could not. One day I almost cried because I was thinking about how Darrent's life ended, unable to get that crap out of my head. This loss will be remembered for a long time, so I want everyone to have better memories of #27.
God bless everyone who was, is, and will be affected by the loss of a good man named Darrent Williams and those whose own lives were touched by what he did in his 24 years. Peace be with them as they struggle to cope with this tragedy no person on Earth deserves to suffer. To the Denver police, let justice be served.

When I heard the news on the rdaio about Darrent early New Years morning I had to get out of bed and turn on the TV to see if it was just a bad dream or a horrible truth. I couldn't believe I had just watched him play the night before. I was depressed when I went to bed because we lost but this put everything in perspective. What a senseless loss of life. The thing that struck me most was that even though I didn't know him personally and I had never met him I felt a strong sense of loss and grief as if I had lost a friend. I felt the entire city just go into shock over this as I did. Condolences to the family, Broncos organization and the fans. I am still waiting for the shock to wear off. I really hope we catch who did this but Darrent will still be gone. The first game I saw him play corner I knew he was something special. I will miss watching him play. He will be missed.

Darrent Williams was a tribute to his family, team and community, by being a role model by an athlete in Professional Football.
He will be missed and remembered for being a classy person on and off the field.
I am proud to be a fan and supporter of Denver Broncos, and esp. proud of the way they handled themselves this past week and at his services. Their respect and love for their team member was very obvious. The BIG guys cried too.
My sympathies to Darrent's mother, children and other loved ones. May you always hold in your heart your memories.
Rest In Peace with GOD, Darrent Williams #27. I will miss you and remember you always.

Just in case it doesn't get posted on the site...I thought I'd just post it here.
All I could do was gasp out a sob and stare at the screen on espn.com when I saw that Darrent Williams was dead.
I can't believe it.
Last night was a trial of getting over a loss - in a game - that sent the Broncos out of the playoffs.
But with a loss there's next year.
Now I keep on thinking of #27...and there isn't a next year.
I feel like I knew him, just because of how much I love the Broncos, and how involved I am in following them all year-round.
Darrent Williams was first and foremost a person...and he was a Bronco.
Being a Bronco makes him part of a brotherhood.
A family.
A worldwide family.
I'm a part of that family.
And because of that, I mourn the loss, and I feel it as personal as any death in my own family.
My prayers, and the prayers and thoughts of countless others reach out to Darrent's family and friends.
We just want to let you know that we love y'all.
That's all I can say.
From the heart, we love y'all.

I wonder if the funeral is going to be here in Fort Worth. If it is I'd like to go...although wherever it is my prayers go with the family.
I know exactly what you mean. I was already looking ahead for next year for #27 as soon as the news broke of his murder. I was awake in deep depression over how we lost that final game and wanted to retrospect on watching all the Bronco games i recorded on my DVR (digital video recorder) like a TIVO. And i was just heading for bed and i saw it online, but heading was "Bronco Slain in Denver" immediately i was thinking please let it be the horse and not player. But in all fact it was a player, and a rising star. Now all i can think is only to play as Darrent on Madden.
We love you Darrent! We thank you for the wonderful memories!

My best memory of D. Will was that interception against the Raiders in Oakland his rookie season.
Shanahan touched on it once today during his speech and it brought back a great memory of a time when it looked like the game was turning in the Raiders favor, D Will made a play on a Kerry Collins pass and took it down the Raiders sidelines for 80 yards and a TD.
Shanahan said he was probably winking at the Raiders as he was on his way to a TD.

This is my 27th post so I thought it should be in here. There is too many great memories of D-Will to recount just one. I was so looking forward to many more great memories of him. He was taken much too soon. His body is gone but his spirit is still with us. Now and always. Goodbye, D-Will. You will truly be missed both on and off the field. :salute:

When I heard the news on the rdaio about Darrent early New Years morning I had to get out of bed and turn on the TV to see if it was just a bad dream or a horrible truth. I couldn't believe I had just watched him play the night before. I was depressed when I went to bed because we lost but this put everything in perspective. What a senseless loss of life. The thing that struck me most was that even though I didn't know him personally and I had never met him I felt a strong sense of loss and grief as if I had lost a friend. I felt the entire city just go into shock over this as I did. Condolences to the family, Broncos organization and the fans. I am still waiting for the shock to wear off. I really hope we catch who did this but Darrent will still be gone. The first game I saw him play corner I knew he was something special. I will miss watching him play. He will be missed.
Probably one of the best posts i have seen, I could'nt feel more the same.

Everyone who has looked at this, now it's time to step up for the Bronco family and the Williams family. Donate what you can, I am sure the Williams family will be greatful small or large. Darrent was my hero, he was such a great player and an upstanding guy in society.Eventually he would become Champ Baily, that shut down corner, he was well on his way. What a terrific man we were blessed with in Denver. He brought smiles to his teamates, to his coaches, and even Pat Bowlen! Prey for the Williams family, show your love by contributing. I call upon Al Wilson, our defensive leader, to make sure his kids are takin care of. Al if you could, look after them, and Mike Shanahan, you too, please look after his children, please! Bleed Orange and Blue forever, Darrent you are in another place now, a beautiful place called Heaven. We as Bronco fans, and as a family, will look after your kids. Rest in Peace.

My heart is broken, but its been uplifted after having seen how utterly classy The Denver Bronco organization, from owner to every player and every person involved have been during this whole ordeal. Ive been a fan for life, and now I know why, Thank you Denver Broncos, Thank you Mrs Williams for sharing your sons life and celebration of it, You are the ultimate loving mother, and Dee will be missed and loved for eternity.

I want to express my shock and outrage at this tragedy. As a Charger fan I appreciated Darrent's fine play. His heart and courage belied his diminutive stature. I was looking forward to seeing him play many more years. I was heartened to see the many fine things said about his friendly nature, etc. He must have been a fun guy to be around. RIP from San Diego.

Of all the French fans of Darrent, sincere condolences to the family of Darrent and her friends.
Each week end i watch the match of Broncos and I am really torn to have learned this tragic history.
I loved Darrent, I love him and i'll love him all my life, it was a formidable player but also somebody of really healthy.
Same if today it is not any more with "us", I know that he lookss at us, and read all our messages.
Darrent nobody will replaced you, you will remain never has to engrave in our memories.
The family "Broncos" is forever wounded. We will miss you all.
Darrent you will be always my preferred player...
Everyone will fight in your honor to continue has to make you live for what was your passion.

I'm still in shock at how someone like this could get taken, and it could happen to anyone. But with that little bit aside, I'm wanting to send my thought's and prayers out to Darrent's personal family and his team family. I've been a Bronco fan for as long as I can remember and am 33 now and I've been really down since hearing about what happened. Where I'm living now, we do get to see a few of the Bronco's games, but not as much as I would like, considering I'm in St Louis Rams Country. I am really down that I couldn't go to the game when they were in town to be able to have watched him play there, he impressed me when I saw him on TV and I'm sure it would have been even more if it was in person!

This is without a doubt the biggest tragedy in Denver Bronco history. Quite possibly the history of the NFL. Ever since Darrent Williams was drafted by Denver, he's always been one of my favorite players. He was a tremendous athlete and a class act. And there aren't many star players out there who's a real class act. If you're as big of a Bronco fan as I am, you were probably devastated with their loss to the 49ers. But when I awoke the next morning and heard about what happened to this great man, the last thing on my mind was the disappointment of Denver missing out on the playoffs. It's heartbreaking. Far more heartbreaking then their loss last Sunday. I held in my emotions for a week. Then I saw the memorial video and I just couldn't hold in my emotions anymore. The Denver Broncos have lost a great cornerback, a great athlete, but more importantly, a great man. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Williams' family and all of the Broncos players. Get 'em next year Denver!

Great sadness attends this tragic turn of events. Truely a man taken before his time. Such talent and such potential. Clearly, he affected everyone around him in a positive and inspiring way. It is sad, as fans we really didn't get much of a chance to really know him as a man outside of the player. The people who have come forward to speak of him outside of the gridiron describe their loss and thus give expression and definition to all our loss. We always search for meaning even in events that have no purpose or meaning except wanton and blind destruction, I hope everyone will heed the advice of the players and Dee Will's mom and give him a lifetime honor and tribute...by living life the way he did, in his short time with us... to not accept limits and barriers, to strive against adversity without reservation or hesitation, to say no to anyone or anything that would deny that which GOD has already worked in your being, your heart and your abilities. I really feel shellshocked and think alot about that song that says we really don't appreciate our blessings until they are gone... the best tribute we can give to Darrent is to count our blessings and strive to make them manifest each and every moment that we have been given. GOD Bless Darrent and his family. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

D-Wills frohawk accompanied by an ear to ear grin will be etched in my memory for a long time....i guess hes the lucky one out of us though, he gets to be up in heaven playing football with tillman and stringer while we're all down here working our 9-5s
