I remember when the Broncos drafted him in 2004 out of Oklahoma State, and I was ecstatic. He was one of the best athletes to come out in the draft, and he was going to play for the Broncos.
Over the next few years I watched him play and develop into a great player. He was a versatile player, being used as a return specialist as well as a defender. As I watched him play, I couldn't help but notice his competitive nature, and coupled with his athleticism, he gained my admiration. I am not so naive to think that my admiration for him was so important, but I do know the rest of Bronco Nation took notice too.
After hearing of his tragic death, I tried to shake the feelings of despair and depression setting in. How is it that I could feel so badly that someone had died who I had never met? He didn't even know I existed, yet I couldn't shake the feeling. Knowing I will never see him play agian, realizing that I can root for him know longer, thinking that he will never achieve the greatness he was striving for. Those are the reason for my sadness. A tragedy for sure, a loss that makes us all speechless, and his fans are in mourning.
I only hope that whoever did this does not get away with it, I hope they are punished fully. #27, we will never forget you.
