OLSEN RUNS A 4.45
Miami tight end Greg Olsen might have solidified for himself a spot in round one by running a blazing 4.45 in the 40-yard dash on Saturday.
Olsen currently isn't in the first round of our own mock draft. But after running faster than plenty of wide receivers he will be.
At a time when more and more teams are using the Cover Two/Tampa Two defense, it's more and more valuable to have a guy with speed down the middle of the field, which is one of the weak spots in a defensive scheme that relies on playing the safeties deep.

damn, that is blazing fast for a 250+ pounder. . . . i thought he had it anyways, but he's now got the top spot for TEs on lock-- dude made himself some cash. . . . i thought the bears were his only chance of slipping into the 1st round, but this may generate a lot more interest. . . i'm not convinced that he consistently plays to that timed speed, but this should open some eyes. . . .

I was talking about Olsen and Miller as the only legit first-round possibilities over on the Mane and a lot of people didn't think Olsen should have been considered. I knew he'd work out well, but I'm disappointed in Miller's time. That hurts him, but Olsen was helped out big time. I wouldn't even be surprised if the Packers traded down a couple of spots and took him. I was thinking Minnesota or some team would get him early second in the forum mock here, but I doubt it.

After watching him in the State Farm College All-Star Challenge, I had a feeling he would put on a field day at the combine. He is quick, and he has a very nice fluid motion to his route running. On top of that, he has a nice pair of mits that snag balls with ease. He definitely will be valuable to whichever team he goes to.

Pretty sad that he is faster than our RB Mike Bell.

I just hope the Raiders don't snag him at #33. They have two decent TE's on their roster, but if they do take a QB, I wouldn't be surprised to try and find him a running mate. A good TE is a younger QB's best friend and we saw first hand here in Denver what kind of potential an young TE/QB combination can do for you in the future, if not immediately.

According to Mayock after the combine during a press conference (I know it's weird, Mayock had his own podium and had a press conference :goofy: ) that the unofficial time of 4.45 was actually a 4.51 officially. None the less, that is fast fast fast for a TE.

I think I had the Saints taking him in the late first but now I really can see the Packers making a run at him! Whether its 4.45 or 4.51 it doesnt really matter. He is going to be a good one!

I watched him in the combine and last weekend in some college skills show on ESPN. The guy is solid, fast and has very good eye-hand coordination. Whoever picks him up should have success at the TE position.

Greg Olsen went to the high school right next to mine. I remember when he won a State Championship. That's all the useless info I can share with you right now.

He was CRAZY. He definately is going in the first round.
He'd tear up the Cover 2 defense. In my opinion, the Cover 2 defense is basically a beckoning for a big play for the offense.

Olsen was pretty nice at the combine. I liked how he performed in the gauntlet drill. :D
Miller didn't impress me at all. Not a great workout for him.

I agree. It could have been a bad day, but his speed off the line was not as impressive to me. His footwork was not nearly as good, and he didn;t adjust to the ball nearly as well.
I also wasn't nearly as high on Allen as some of the analysts were. Sure he ran a high 4.6 (I think it was an unoffical time of 4.67) but they way he moved his shoulders off the line and his overall mechanics made me think he wasn't nearly as interesting as Mayock made him out to be, even if he came from a Division III school.

Plus, Olsen is a converted TE from WR. So that explains a lot ;)
