Good call on Priest, without a doubt the best live band ive ever seen. Saw them in 90' with Megadeth on the Painkiller tour and recently saw them on Ozzfest a year or so ago.

I pretty much only listen to Metal and Hard Rock. I don't listen to much new stuff though.
I'm going to guess what I call metal you guys don't consider metal.
Motley Crue
LA Guns
Love/Hate
Ratt
I like Priest, Sabbath and Maiden too but I like the Glam/Hairbands the most.
Other bands I like are Exodus, Motorhead, AC/DC and Buckcherry(one of the few bands from the last 10 years I like)

Question: Are metal and hard rock the same thing? Do you consider a band like Motorhead metal?
I usually lump metal and Hard Rock into the same catagory.

Not really the same but they are closely linked. I grew up listening to Ratt, Van Halen, etc. Still love those bands today but as i got older i just kept getting into harder and more extreme stuff. My favorite genre is Death/Black Metal. But i have a hefty collection of hard rock bands like you listed as well. :D

Fair enough....then please categorize Motorhead. I think there are alot of genres of rock that could fall under the metal umbrella.

Most assuredly. MOTORHEAD influenced several of the earliest Death/Black Metal bands, including VENOM and BATHORY.

BATHORY's founding (only???) member, Quorthon (R.I.P. :salute: ) gave credit to no one other than MOTORHEAD for influencing the songwriting in his early days.

Fair enough....then please categorize Motorhead. I think there are alot of genres of rock that could fall under the metal umbrella.

Metal from the 80's (like the one's you listed) can be lumped in w/ Hard Rock.

Metal today (bands like Lamb of God, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage) cannot be lumped in with hard rock (Hinder, Breaking Benjamin).

As for me...

Fear Factory
Mnemic
Meshuggah
Soilwork
Threat Signal
Arch Enemy
Kreator
Lamb of God
All That Remains
Pantera
Lacuna Coil
(pre-Crusade) Trivium
Killswitch Engage

I could go forever...

For the most part I agree. But, some of the bands he listed like Motorhead, Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden, I would still classify as metal today.

Ironically, those are the 4 bands that coined the term ''metal.''

My "commercial" song list is in my sig...

Dio is there, as is Megadeth, Ozzy, Rage & some others.

If you check out anything from my home town of Louisville, I strongly suggest looking into the Velcro Pygmies (it's on my playlist too). "Mona Lisa" will crack you up.

Not on the playlist...GWAR, Lamb of God, Tool, etc.

I could talk music forever.
