I understand that some people are wanting to hear this from the horse's mouth (myself included), but that doesn't mean it's not worth entertaining these rumors.

This one comes from the Washington Post:

Redskins Notes: Denver cornerback Dre Bly, who the Redskins attempted to acquire last week and who has told several people he wants to play for Washington, could become available again. The Broncos, who already have three quality cornerbacks, have a free agent visit set up with corner David Macklin, according to reports, and should they sign him it could be a precursor to a Bly trade. The Redskins are seeking additional picks in this draft and are interested in trading down from the sixth overall pick, while the Broncos could entertain moving up. . . .

I think the key line from this rumor is:

The Broncos, who already have three quality cornerbacks, have a free agent visit set up with corner David Macklin, according to reports

I find that interesting, to say the least. I figure it's worth a post and discussion, if nothing else.

I, for one, would love the possibility of moving up in this draft.

You can never have to Many CB, also Denver is looking to make Payma a FS, tall and with speed, thats why they are looking for another CB.

To be honest...he's got almost everything to gain by going to wash. I'm tipping Foxy for a huge season. So Bly will go to the Redskins and have everything he wants. Oh, apart from a ring, of course.

Macklin is definitely a step down from Bly, but if we were to swap 1st rounder in the Bly deal, which is probably what would happen if the deal got done, id be ok with it. im sure we'd go after Dline at 6, so that would really be worth looking at.

Dam i would like to see some proof too, thats not a bad idea. I could see him as a good FS or SS

I wouldn't completely mind us moving up to the 6th overall pick. That means Gaines Adams will be available for us to pick. WOW!!!1 That would be unbeleivable. Screw Bly, he's good but he's getting old and is not so great that he's irreplaceable. But a top DE who'll be outstanding for years for us, I'd love it. I think Shanny wouldn't completely mind it either as he's shown a penchant for liking Defensive linemen from Clemson (Trevor Pryce, Bryant McNeal, Nick Eason were all drafted by Shannahan).

Well if the Redskins want Bly, and Denver signs off on it, then they had better get a good deal. #6 overall, and a player, with us giving up Bly and #21, would be fine by me. But I was hoping that we finally had two shut down corners.

I'd want a First and a Dlineman for Bly. Why not soak the bustards again?

Or #6, and keep our #21.

More funtime with WIF's:

How about Bly and a 4th for Springs and Taylor. Won't happen, but it would be fun...

You know sometimes the most basic rumor has truth, I am not saying it is true...but the possibility of it is. And we see Green Bay talking about trading players they have traded for, I do not see Bly as a huge need. If we keep him great, if not...oh well, life goes on. And right now, if Denver moves up it would be smart - while there is a deep draft class as far as defensive lineman, the likes of a premier capable addition is more sound then Bly's services: Get Shawn Springs to compete with Foxworth and moving up and the ability to take Adams or Anderson or even Landry...though I prefer Anderson, would be a huge boost, much more then Bly could be.

Plus the top 10 draft pick may still well cost us less than a new deal for Bly... or it would seem to be similar if nothing else, and the difference would be that Bly is 29 while the draft pick is less tahn 25... though they are less of a sure thing...

Ohh Ohh, i got one toO!

How about Bly for SpringS, TayLor, POrtis and #6!!1!

It wont work.. but it would be cool!!!1!!1

Hello? Bly would be worth a 3rd at best. I wonder if even #21 and Bly would warrent the #6 pick in the draft. And i doubt we give any more than that for it.

Essentially it would be: Tatum Bell, George Foster, #21, and probly another player worth a 3rd or so just to get their #6. Thats an arm and a leg in NFL terms. I think we stick with Bly unless we pull some trade for Springs. Moving up to #6 is tantalizing but not realistic. :salute:

Great...David Macklin...that's just great. Macklin shouldn't even be a no. 4 corner for us.

In all seriousness, the only trades that are realistic are something along the lines of:

Springs and a 4th or 5th for Bly
Taylor for Bly and a late round pick (possibly straight up. Both make big plays and get burned. CB>FS)
or a 3 way trade that would have us moving up into the 10-15 range

None of which are going to happen

if we got up to #6, and Peterson was still there....? I'm just saying, I know it's a bad idea now, but Peterson...here...that's a bit more exciting than Travis Henry, no? Spare me the rationale, I'm just speaking from a pure enjoyment pick. Maybe we could trade Henry for the Raiderettes?

This is absurd. No way the Skins give up their best defensive player who they are paying a lot of money to be their next Ronnie Lott. NOT GONNA HAPPEN BUDDY

As I said, not likely. But Denver would have to get back something for them to make the move as well. Right now Bly and Washington are the ones looking to make the move which gives Denver the leverage (to a point)
